About how hot its going to get this weekend morning, john. Yep, you wont know where youre at because were all looking high. Its not a coastal escape kind today. Its going to be a coastal lay on the beach and catch the rays can today. We are looking at a very warm one and we can attribute it to those dry offshore winds. Your view outside at San Francisco from about from mount tam, you can see the wobble that camera has that is that strong wind that is working its way from the interior out towards the coast. And its really putting a stop to any sort of cool coastal breeze that pushes inland. Thats temperatures are going to skyrocket and no cloud cover. No fog whatsoever. Right now were already at 70 degrees in alameda. Honestly, we pretty much hung out there all night long temperatures last night for a lot of spots. Actually state are really, really mild throughout the course of the evening. And today will continue to rise as the sun comes up. More and more mid to upper 70s along the coastline and a range of 80s for the rest of us. Ive got the rest, the breakdown of your forecast as we go. But rain is standing by with a look at the roads. Sounds like got an issue on the san mateo bridge day. Thankfully, that accident just cleared off of the bridge 40 woman, right . So still a little slow and sluggish chp, just let me know. They got that clear. That was just west. The foster city. So i would probably take dunbar bridge until the drive times continue to drop as the morning goes on a regional accidents, issues or problems there about a 24 minute ride into the city this morning. So Richard Serra filbert around 14. So thats double where we typically are. 8 oclock always pretty busy. 40 minute ride along 101. Thats because of things being a little slow up in the north bay. 37 to the toll just factor that into your morning commute. All right, james, back to you. 81 right now and today the port of oakland is going make a final decision on whether or not but San Francisco and the name of the airport. Yeah. How would that work . Well, San FranciscoInternational Airports not too happy about it. Neither is the city of San Francisco. Michael thomas live for us out at Oakland International with the controversy. Hey, michael. Hey, good morning, everyone. Right before we went on, a gentleman stopped to ask me and give his opinion. He says he does not like the name San Francisco bay Oakland Airport, which is what oakland officials want to change it to. And they say theyre voting on it today at 01 00pm, whether San Francisco or essentially residents like it or not. Take a look. Weve got video up on your screen so i can break it all down. Now, the port of oakland said that sees nothing wrong with adding the words San Francisco bay to Oakland Airport name. Well, the city of San Francisco doesnt actually filed a lawsuit. Essentially. They say that the name would cause a lot of confusion and chaos for travelers. But oakland Officials Say they did a survey with customers and they found that these customers actually like the name change and welcome. It will take a listen to what San FranciscoCity Attorney david chiu had to regarding that we had a chance finally to take a look at their socalled customer survey. And it was riddle with all sorts of issues. It was essentially a survey that push respondents toward the answers that they wanted. It didnt give them the direct choice. From our perspective, we think any reasonable person. Heres a name. San Francisco International airport next. A San Francisco bay, Oakland International airport. Well understand how clearly similar those 2 names are and the likely confusion that those names will create. And thats a standard for a clear infringement case. Now the Oakland Airport officials essentially say that that letter from david with the offer to collaborate on a different name will be shared at todays Board Meeting again at 01 00pm. But the City Attorney says you know, they dont want it done. And oakland Officials Say that suit was filed prematurely. Now i did speak with some oakland residents and travelers this morning. Take a listen to what their opinion on the name change was. I can say i like the name because ive lived here not only use on the San Francisco and the last is something, you know, one of the people who dont live here, they dont even know the that back out here live, i have spoken to a total 6 different people. And i will say not one has said that they are in favor of the San Francisco bay Oakland Airport. A lot of these residents, whether theyre in the east bay or oakland itself, they do want to stay airport. So that meeting is set for 1 oclock today and well find out essentially what the new airport that currently standing in, which is Oakland Airport. If its going to change or not. Tara and james, i will send it back want. I call it not lead to dinner. I mean, its always on time. Yeah, its always sunny. There are very few delilah that living la vida, which is real good michaels. Will say a lot of of these customers are travelers. I should say one of their biggest things was they said its a lot easier. Its a smoother transition. And we like the difference between oakland and San Francisco. Do with that information. What love. Michael, thank you. 805, right now and and a big story this morning. A lot more people are working from home not going into the office. And now google is saying goodbye to a really big office in San Francisco. They Just Announced theyre going to be leaving that huge water front office tower. Kron fours will tran is there for us live this morning. With more will. The office is right behind me, james. And a lot of people are showing up to work and no problems. They are going to the right place, at least until next april. After that, then if you go here, you didnt get the memo that google is shutting down its location at San Francisco. One market plaza. I can tell you that theyre not leaving San Francisco, but they are struggling like many other businesses. Do we let them work from home or or do we tell them to come to the office and google has made his decision at least at this office saying you dont have to come here come next year. Theyve already sold their landlord. Dont plan to renew our lease. Google will stay in San Francisco and they have plenty of other offices. But shutting down this location is tantamount to shutting down their Flagship Store if they were in the retail business, its basically shutting down their Flagship Stores say they dont want 300,000 square feet anymore at this waterfront property. San francisco dealing with a Public Relations image because other businesses have either entirely moved out or doing what google is going to do, move a lot of their business in this case, one office. But other retailers have moved many of their stores out of San Francisco. Take a look at your screen. Google did respond to this. They want to ease the fears of san franciscans at the same time letting the world know that you know what they might not have more offices in San Francisco in the future because of hybrid. Keep that word the mic. So we reached out to them in the overnight hours and they reached back. This is what they had to say. As we have said before we are focusing on investing in real estate efficiently to meet the current and future needs of our hybrid workforce, we remain committed to our longterm presence in San Francisco and they have a longterm presence in San Francisco. This office has been around since 2018, but the clock is ticking on the landlord to find a new tenant to fill 300,000 square fept. Google is a hard act to follow, though. So they have work to do. And as far as google, plenty of other offices, they say this is a sliver, albeit a big sliver of their workforce. Back to you. All right. Good enough will thank you. California Supreme Court has actually taken up this lawsuit. Calling on the justices to remove the better of from the ballot. Our capitol correspondent Eytan Wallace has more. Meeting in San Francisco justices on the California Supreme Court heard arguments supporting and opposing the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability act or tpa. They specifically must decide whether to take it off the November Ballot. The proposed measure already qualified for the upcoming November Ballots with more than 1 million signatures turned supporters note, if passed, the measure would require voters to approve every new state tax increase or new state fee proposed by the state legislature or local governments. It would also change the voter threshold for local citizen run tax initiatives from a simple majority to at least twothirds majority needed to but governor gavin newsom and democratic members of the Legislature Say the measure is illegal because they believe it was significantly revise the california state constitution. Attorney mark or printin represented the governor during oral arguments at the high court. If taxing were subject to voter approval. It might become impossible and it would certainly be delayed for for the legislature to try pass a balanced budget, raise revenues that are necessary on the other side, attorney thomas hitech represented the measures proponents, including the Howard Jarvis taxpayers association. They want the measure to remain on the ballot, our constitution since its inception. Has stated that all political power inherent in the people. And what tpa does its recent war, not only the peoples power to have check and balance on that requires the legislature to be part of that process. Thats accountability. Assembly speaker robert remus and former Senate President pro tempore toni atkins signed onto the lawsuit, urging the court to strip the measure from the ballot. So, look, i think people see the hypocrisy and theyre just not buying his book. Now the ball is in the court of the 7 justices on the state Supreme Court. Among their options. They could strike it from the ballot, which means it would not go before the voters in november or they could do some variation allowed to go to the people for a vote on november. 5th.
