No. Now President Biden did speak earlier this morning regarding this ongoing situation at College Campuses across the country. His remarks come as congress now debate a bill that would broaden. President joe biden spoke thursday following passage of the house bill codifying the definition of antisemitism which sailed through the House Wednesday night with overwhelming bipartisan support. And its time for senator schumer. The highest ranking jewish official in the history of the United States to act. And to put this bill up for a vote in the senate. But its unclear when that might happen. We havent seen with the house sending us yet. The bill relies on a definition of antisemitism established by the International Holocaust remembrance alliance. If passed, it would give the department of education more leeway to enforce antidiscrimination laws as College Campus protests spread. This bill threatens to chill constitutionally protected speech. Speech that is critical of israel alone does not constitute unlawful discrimination. Opponents say the bill violates protesters, constitutional rights. Others say the measure gives College Administrators something they need at a critical moment. Protest are nothing new. In our country, their constitutionally protected by the First Amendment. But its also very clear that these institutions can regulate the exercise of those First Amendment rights based on time, manner and place restrictions. You can see the suv on its side. Apparently that was a mother driving a couple of kids near bishop odowd. And this is about 800 feet literally from the high school and just going to this location, all of a sudden another car comes along and slams into it, pushing the car on its side and look at the damage. We do know that the people inside were rushed to the hospital just as a precaution, but they should be okay. This all went down. Ashley at around 7. 45. This morning near bishop odowd at 98 and cherokee. So apparently shots rang out near the high school. The driver of the suv, which i just showed you heard gunshots and actually tried to speed away for their safety and all of a sudden runs across the second vehicle causing both cars too. Kyle lied and actually other car could not even drive away from the scene. Police officers came to this area. Notice that this car here, this suv was on his side, saw the people inside at that time. Apparently they had already managed to crawl away from their car, taken to the hospital. They looked into the second car and the driver at the very least could be some passengers. But the driver at the very least was not found. Not sure of that car has anything to do with the gunfire. But the fact as the driver wasnt there and perhaps passengers, were not there leads police to believe that possibly they had something to do with it. And as you can clearly see, the are getting ready to tow away this suv from the scene. Im sure it will be looked at as evidence and look at this. Bishop odowd is just right down the road and the accident happened right next to the fire department. Hotel workers and janitors say they wanted to make a statement to their employers by marching on city streets. Hundreds of Hotel Workers and janitors march through downtown San Francisco wednesday afternoon, demanding more from their employers. Many held up signs that read one job should be enough. A lot of our folks work multiple jobs. They have to do. It happened just before 8. 45 last night on 4th street, Sonoma County fire says that this ambulance you see here, the paramedic was attending to a patient while the emt was in the back of the ambulance. And they say that is when for some reason, the patient jumped up, ran to the ambulance, hopped in the drivers seat and took off with the emt still inside. In the end, police used spike strips to stop the ambulance and took that person into custody. Downtown francisco video captures a man assaulting 2 people, both elderly asian men. This happened around 10, 20 yesterday morning at her post in kearny street near union square. You can see in the Surveillance Video if you watch this year, the man in a blue tshirt gets out of his car, shoves the first victim and then tries to kick them. The suspect then goes after the second victim and pushes him to the ground before getting back in his car and driving off. Going to see that encounter with that second victim right there. Police described the victims as a 59 yearold in a 78 yearold man. Authorities say this is an active investigation and are still trying to figure out if it was a hate crime. Well, the auditor for the city of oakland released a pretty hefty report detailing how the city missed out on millions of dollars in funding to tackle retail crime. And analyzing why missed out on applying for the states organized Retail Theft Prevention Grant Program or rtp the state budget act of 2022. The audit showed 38 separate oakland city officials were emailed alerting them of grant monies ranging from 6 million to 15 Million Dollars at stake months before the deadline. However, auditor houston said that his team discovered a process that was at times chaotic and in the end, never successfully submitted the required documents. He adds, although various departments played a role, he says that the mayor could have made a difference in the final outcome. Its an idea thats been gaining support over the years among community leaders. Youth Commission Members say that this measure is meant to increase engagement overall in local elections. We began at a time when young people are still in high school. I still at home and not able to i have that support network and makes it much more likely that theyre going to continue being boat ads and make it happen much a they have proven that they are ready to vote and they have the skills needed to vote. But thats the core cognition skills that they need. What the lived experiences that young people have, whether its taking care of family, whether its working up to 40 hours a week and paying taxes, they meet many of the threshold to be considered necessary in order to the voters. And they do have a direct stake in the outcome elections. So growing up. I been around a lot of youth organizers who are very in tuned their community, their leading rallies regarding school safety, addressing assault and harassment in schools. And amongst and for lgbtq youth population. So they are very much in the front lines. Well, similar measures failed to won in 2016. Another in twentytwenty, albeit by a smaller margin. Whether the measure will appear on this years ballot is still being decided. At san jose state, theres an exhibit at the library that dives into south asia and pulls examples from families living right here in Silicon Valley. Have come for jack moment with the story. Well, the region known as south asia makes up 7 Different Countries in the library. Curator here at the king library at san jose state says she wanted to include the religions in the foods that make up each of these cultures. She wanted to also consults with families living here in the bay area who also have ties to those countries. Thats really cool. Yeah. So these 2 things are lincoln. Yes, and this is also from sri lanka up into the immersive Martin Luther king library at San Jose State University in may. And youll find an exhibit quite like no other. I think that could be very montr of roy is a library in here and she curated this exhibit on the 5th floor. Its titled south asians. Of Silicon Valley, afghanistan, bangladesh, nepal, india, pakistan, sri these are nearly all the countries that make up the region of south asia, a region roy says needs more attention in the south bay. She says at least 20 of people who live in Santa Clara County are of south asian origin and more than 60 of International San jose state students are from south asia, but yet so many of them have struggled to find a voice to find themselves being represented well in mainstream what was born and raised in india. And she says having other south asians like herself in Silicon Valley added more reason for this project. These things help them feel more empowered that we are represented actual case at this exhibit, youll find the sports the food know what to do signing and the religion sick man will never will never see them without their turbans. A former teacher named Matthew Shelton was charged with 7 counts of molesting a child. Attorneys say he worked at Elementary Schools for more than a decade. The lawsuit accuses the district of negligent hiring and adds that the principal was friends with shelton and his wife. A group of bipartisan senators is reintroducing a bill that would limit kids. Union city police now asking for the community to help out and finding this teenage girl has been missing since wednesday. Her name is anne elise gonzales. Shes 15 years old, stands about 4 feet, 8 inches tall. Weighs about 120 pounds. She was last seen yesterday about 11 in the morning at James Logan High School in union city. Well, sheriffs deputies have recovered a mans body now that appears to ground into fremont creek tuesday, east bay regional parks, employees actually reported this man near 3rd and else streets in fremont trying to cross the creek. They searched for hours and eventually they did find the body pronounced the man dead officials still investigating. This is a picture of one of the sting operations conducted by Law Enforcement in marin and sonoma counties last month. As for when that recall election will take place that still unknown, right . Well, kron fours dan kerman spoke with legal experts about prices prospects and how a lawsuit might affect the recall. Motion with Alameda County supervisors voting to accept ballot signatures as certified by the registrar of voters. The attempt to recall District Attorney pamela price moves forward, creating an ever more uncertain future for price. 61 of recalls nationwide in this time period resulted in removal. Cause uptick, 6 or so have resulted in resignation before the recall. So they are very successful as a rule. Joshua spivak is a Senior Research fellow at berkeley laws, california constitution center. He says while recalls overall tend to be successful, its more of a 50, 50 split in california. Alameda county supervisor still have to decide whether to call a special election or let the recall happened during novembers general election. Spivak says that could impact the outcome. They seem to survive better when its a special election. In a statement prices, if a recall takes place, it should happen during the november general election. But she maintains the recall is illegal because the county registrar of voters didnt follow its own charter by allowing more than 10 days to count signatures and by allowing out of county residents to gather those signatures. But so far her campaign is not filed a lawsuit against the county. I will support this motion and hopes that occasion is filed. So he get clear direction its meeting tuesday. One supervisor hope the lawsuit would happen. So a judge could weigh in. But legal experts say even if that happens, its unlikely prices campaign would be successful. I believe that at the end of the judges unlikely to say that the board was wrong when it chose to follow state law rather county ordinances. And in the south bay, San Jose Police are going to be taking a different approach to Cinco De Mayo festivities this year after getting a little bit of backlash over the low rider parade this year. The police are actually planning on cruising right along with their own car in the during Cinco De Mayo weekend. Sundays parade play pays homage as we know to the mexican roots and history of the san jose last year. Law enforcement close some of the highway ramps near that event which lawmakers called racist and discriminatory for singling out mexican americans. The bay bridge lights, the iconic bay bridge lights. They are officially coming back to groom. Eliminate that created the lights was forced to turn them off last year. That was because of a lack of funding. But they recently that the nonprofit has raised 11 Million Dollars through crowdfunding. So theyre now going to able to turn them back on and theyre sent have a grand Lighting Ceremony in spring of next year. And when they do return, theyre actually going to be featuring about 50,000 led lights, which is twice the original amount, meaning the artwork will be visible on both sides of the bridge and some history on the lights will they were initially installed as a temporary twoyear exhibit back in 2013, but they ended up staying on a whole decade up until 2023 of last year. Now it is estimated 20 Million People per year directly experienced a bay bridge lights and a minimum Life Expectancy of the lights is 10 years.
