You can see its those northbound lanes and its actually starting to cause some congestion on the southbound lanes as well. Weve got a live picture of what 80 looks like right now. Were going to try to getting up on your screen. You can see that major back up there again, those are the northbound lanes heading. Its right near high street and chp says, again, theyre experiencing some flooding. They do have somebody heading out there, part of their crew to figure out more detail. So well keep you updated on that. But if we come back here to our traffic maps, you can see we put together some alternative routes you can use Stanley Andrews street to head up to avoid that. Who are homeless and they are camping in public spaces. So bay area cities are watching this really closely because this could impact what we do back at home. Will trend lines and worse is with the latest on this morning. Well, why is this so important . Because the United States Supreme Court, it is the law of the land. So whatever they decide and we dont know how long its going to take whatever the site could impact cities like San Francisco and sacramento. And i mentioned sacramento because governor gavin newsom obviously lives there. Andy is watching very closely, hoping that the that United States Supreme Court rules in favor of a small town called grants pass, which is in the southern border of oregon. Heres whats at stake. Grants pass would like to criminalize being homeless encampments, slapping fines on what that means is they would like to clear it out impose fines, but homeless advocates say that is not fair and actually fought this in one a couple years ago. The 9th Circuit Court of appeals in San Francisco said they could not do that because is cruel and unusual punishment that leads to a vicious cycle. You are in essence finding people who cannot afford it ruins their credit. And then when theyre ready to get back on their feet, they cant rent. Well, this case is made all the way to washington, d. C. , that Supreme Court justices will decide what happens. San francisco cares deeply about what happens as well as the entire state, especially governor gavin newsom. He has struggled to get a handle on the homeless situation. But if they rule in favor of grants pass, that means california and San Francisco can start imposing some of their local laws against the homeless. All right. Thanks a lot. She says she works as a Security Guard pulling in about 1000 bucks a shes been homeless before. But this time she says her hopes are shot. She says shes been rejected for voucher programs. So far we have to get really brag matter for concern comes amid the citys struggle to fill a 50 Million Dollar deficit in this years budget. Mayor matt mahan told the community theyre going to prioritize homeless resources. You have to experiment with things that we havent done a lot of in recent years while at the same time focusing on reducing homeless encampments, were going to have to experiment with safe sleeping sites may or may have says a cheaper option to get people out of an unsanctioned encampment is through illegal. What an example is when you drive down Willow Street by the 87 and see this encampment may have has proposed moving this one into a sanctioned encampment. Theres just way too much red tape. The founder of a cop, a Silicon Valley and homeless advocate top lancton says unhoused people he works with are worried about the summer and what the council will end up approving. But yeah, theyre worried about the safe parking the worried about they dont want to go into congregate shelters or anything that resembles a congregate shelter like says he hopes san jose will make the possible sanction encampments area and allow people to come and go as they please not for too few but does says she would go to a sanction parking lot. And hes just tired of being homeless. I stress. Now all this comes as a recent audit finds that the city of san jose is not doing enough and is not being transparent. But the money that is given to them from the state of california to address its homelessness issues. Now the city says this highlights a bigger statewide issue in terms of funding, but it will be up to the city and the counselors to decide how it should fund homeless programs going into this next fiscal year in downtown san jose jacmel. This happened in bellevue and grand avenues around 1 oclock in the afternoon yesterday, several dirt bikes were driving in the area causing a safety hazard. And in fact, in a car and a motorcyclist got into an accident in the cyclists had to go to the hospital and then there were 50 more bikes were even when that seen circling like mayor and then some of those cases, the the bikes, the motor bikes were going up on the sidewalk summer driving in the opposite direction of traffic making for very, very dangerous situation. Police say they und the 2 in a car parked on when avenue saturday night. Thats 31 yearold woman was shot to in t passenger seat. A 36 yearold man was found with a gunshot wound to the drivers seat. He was taken to the hospital where he died. Police say witnesses told they heard the 2 arguing before the gs went ofpolice believe the man shot the woman before shot himself. Identities have not been released. A Law Enforcement agencies around the bay area city are mourning the loss of a former colleague. This is deputy told in voter. Peter and paul says a homeless man was disrupting the sunday service. And when asked to leave, he got physical and the homeless man then pulled out a knife and a parishioner outside the church. I saw him. This guy being pinned down. And thats when we heard he got stabbed. The victim was later taken to the hospital that were just going just pray and see what happens. Police say they arrested a man who witnesses identified as the attacker. The Church Worker says it scares them to know that the man was armed while inside the church. We didnt know we had a knife. He could have done something here. So this happened in supervisor. Were following a gray will found dead just off the shore of alameda in the San Francisco bay. Now researchers are trying to figure out whats going on. Call for jack moment has the story. So normally this time of year, gray whales are seen swimming north along the california coast on their way to alaska. Now has of these last few years. Its not uncommon to see a gray whale make its way inside San Francisco bay. But researchers do tell me it could take some time to determine exactly how that gray whale did die. Its a whale that celebrated. I think theyre just like magical creatures. Just could newt. He cant get enough of that. It just makes me realize like how small we are as humans and how theyre dealing with all this. But mori point in pacifica, the mood is somber sad to hear when that happened. A great whale, one of thousands that migrate up the Pacific Coast every year wont be completing its journey. It was found dead at this weekend. Up the coast of alameda. And then we received another call this morning, both flannery with the California Academy of Sciences Says she saw the whales carcass this morning. So far, no signs of a ship strike or being tangled in rope. We will open the whale up. We will look inside. It will look for signs of cause of death, whether resets gray whales are dying around the world for years. Only now. Has this species started to recover . She says the reason for the whales decline with climate change, reducing the whales, food source and starving them to death. Basically they werent getting enough high quality food in the arctic during their summer feeding season. We dont know yet if thats what killed this gray whale flannery hopes the whale washed up locally and they can study it makes me sad. More whale watchers like an overhaul and half moon bay. They believe the stolen goods might have been from nearby stores on santa monica boulevard. They say the 2 other passengers also had warrants out for their arrest. All of them were taken into custody and booked into the San Mateo County jail. So lets head to the north 5 Security Guards and a pet, a little bar arrested for allegedly seriously be the patron there. So this is at jamess roaring donkey bar on kentucky street. The Victim Told Police he questioned the security staff following a woman into the mens restroom and they told her that she wasnt allowed in there. Verbal argument ensued and the victim then told police he was kicked out of the bar where the 5 guards beat him up outside. Police say alcohol screen show the victim was sober. 5 Security Guards arrested on suspicion of battery causing seriously bodily injury. The Little Police are trying to obtain video footage get more information from witnesses. The San Francisco Police Seized more than 13 and a half pounds of narcotics and made 13 arrests. This happened near the United Nations plaza and the San Francisco library. 5 of the arrests were suspected of possession of narcotics for sale and the rest for charges related to controlled substances. Almost 4 pounds of drugs were seized around the library and the remaining 9 pounds were seized during a the serving of a search warrant. This is part of the big operation of the citys drug Market Agency coordination center. Thats a program that was Just Launched last year aimed at dismantling drug markets in the tenderloin and south of market. There are 600 prisoner said to be transferred. 2 other facilities because the womens prison in dublin is closing in. These people dont like it. The Nevada Teachers Union filed a lawsuit against the governor, the trsasurer and the state of nevada suggesting the way sb one was written violates nevadas constitution. Issue were having is that the vote tally was not twothirds majority for revenue peace that this funding mechanism that they structured under this bill assumes deaths from the county without thats that revenue peace involved, that the law itself, you know, doesnt mention certain populations and the county and the language is very sloppy written when it comes to stop iran, rather when it comes to assuming that thats since the initial filing, the legislature and the Las Vegas Stadium authority have also been named in the suit. And while as owner john fisher, hes the one to benefit from the public funds and sb one. The as are not named in the suit. But this week the as filed a motion with the court to intervene in the case saying the athletics and affiliates have a substantial interest in sb one and will be affected if sb one is found unconstitutional without intervention, the athletics ability to protect its interests will be impaired.
