Our top story is that bart service is running again between antioch in the pittsburg bay point stations this morning was shut down in all directions due to a minor derailment. Kron fours Tiffany Justice reports now from the antioch bart station. Guest services resumed around 10 oclock this morning that ravens variance all minor by bart officials around 5 oclock this morning. Not had a particular instance just like this Maintenance Worker resulted in and the partial derailment of a train after around 5 hours fixing the issue. All bart services are back up and running. Officials speaking with kron 4 wednesday for a train experience. A minor derailment. Affecting morning commuters on their antioch, pittsburgh, pittsburg bay point stations section of track that joins the maintenance yard to the main tracks that we use for Passenger Service and a train was traveling on that section of tracks. And work track crew had been performing. Before the start of Passenger Service resulted in this particular a minor derailment. One set of wheels derailed on the 3 car train a bus bridge wasnt immediately set up. Immediately is contact our partners and tri delta transit to arrange for a bus bridge because part does not own any buses and they were able to help us out. We provided some buses for bart riders free of that connected to 3 stations on that line until we were able to resume normal train service. Services were resumed around 10 oclock this morning, recommending for customers to download their mobile is no fuel spill that train operators reported to be fine. I think the best thing for people to do is to have the official bark. On their phones and they can get alerts. Thankfully, no injuries were reported to be guesses. Police are investigating a fatal hit and run in san jose. In just the last 5 minutes we have learned the driver. Police are looking for as a teenager. Well, here in san jose, the Police Department is investigating a fatal hit and run collision early wednesday morning at this intersection along even boulevard just after 4 wednesday morning. At least 2 vehicles, a black car in a white truck were involved in a crash here at the intersection of even boulevard in elkins way. This woman lives nearby. She was asleep when it happened. Loud, very loud vehicle. Me up. And i do want to come out. But i Police Arrived on scene a short time later and discovered that one person in the white truck had died. Its unclear what happened to the driver of the black car or if more people or vehicles were involved. But police have referred to this on social media as a fatal hit and run collision. Investigators closed several blocks of neiman for hours on wednesday morning as they took measurements and photographs and spoke with neighbors by 11, 30. The cars were taken away in the roadway reopened. Neighbors say this isnt the first time there has been an accident here. They hope the city can make some safety improvements. I hope this one, they would push some traffic light because all way accident. As of wednesday afternoon, the identity of the victim has not yet been made public. The San Francisco board of supervisors voted unanimously to approve legislation that would streamline the installation of automated speed cameras last week. Mayor london breed set out her transportation vision, which included steps to implement the cameras back in 2023. State bill was passed that allows San Francisco along with 5 other cities to implement a 5 year safety camera pilot program. So this will enable the sfmta to install 33 speed cameras on streets with a history of speeding and severe or fatal crashes. There is an Investigation Underway after a hit and run in San Francisco right near alamo square park could happen this morning in the area of steiner and fulton street officers took the victim a pedestrian to the hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries. Having said that, you definitely feel a difference in the area that cooler feeling that those temperatures have been dropping right now. 57 degrees in downtown San Francisco where its 66 in concord. 65 in san jose. Thats 63 in napa. But if you compare that to where we were yesterday, which was definitely above average day, you can see the difference here in temperatures. 11 degrees cooler nevado 12 in hayward in livermore and just across the board. Its a cooler day today. So not only a cooler day, but a cooler night tonight. Get ready for that. Petaluma Police Issued this alert about noon for reports of an explosion at kenilworth junior high on recently road. They say fireworks have been found on campus. No reported injuries at this point. Police and the school say theyre working to figure out who might be responsible. And the as have rejected a proposal from the city of oakland to extend their lease. Why they wait for their Las Vegas Ballpark to be built. So as executives are meeting in sacramento with the owner of the Sacramento Kings and river cats, thats according to the San Francisco chronicle. Happening today, the California Supreme Court is hearing arguments over the Student Housing plan at berkeleys peoples park. The park is owned by uc berkeley. Its slated to become Student Housing, but construction was stopped before it could start because a protest and legal battles from neighbors, homeless advocates and environmentalists in an effort to keep protesters out. Officials blocked off access to the park was shipping containers in january. Todays hearing coming more than a year after a lower court ruled the projects Environmental Impact the port wasnt adequate. And that will go to walnut creek where theres a growing push back against a proposed fast food restaurant. Chickfila wants to open up a new location at the corner of oak grove and citrus but unlike a lot of its other locations, this restaurant will not have a drivethru and many people who live in that area say thats going to be a problem. Theyre concerned about Traffic Congestion and safety. So the city council is going to discuss this proposal next month. Theres been a change in leadership at the food bank of contra costa and solano, caitlin sly as a familiar face for the organization. And as kron 4 super report, she is focusing on fighting food hunger. After serving as executive director of meals on wheels, diablo region for the past 4 years. And sly returns to the food bank of contra costa and solano as the nonprofits, new president and she replaces her retired predecessor and is following in her fathers footsteps. My father, larry sly was one of the founding Staff Members of the food bank. Almost 50 years and really grew the organization to what it is today coming full circle. Sly is back with the organization where she previously spent 11 years serving in a variety of capacities, including director of programs before her time at meals on wheels. She says a lot has changed while she was away with increased need as a result of covid and inflation. And decreased revenues because sun setting of Government Funds fewer donations. And so we really are relying on the Community Support to allow us to be there for our Community Members for the long haul slice as her staff at the food bank nearly doubles the staff at meals on wheels and the food bank relies on 8,000 volunteers annually. Last year they logged more than 100,0 0 hours. Vital work packing and distributing enough food to provide more than 2. 7 million meals each month. Food insecurity is also growing in the region and with inflation, even though the nonprofit buys in bold, just like your average grocery shopper, the dollar is not going as far as it used to. I hope to draw on my past experience but also rely on the expertise of our current staff. To help us figure out how to mitigate those challenges. Early on, sly intends to focus on bolstering Fundraising Efforts and meeting with clients and Board Members brainstorming ways to maintain all services. And keep people fed. Some milpitas residents will feel some Financial Relief on their rent. A new program is set to get 50 households 645 a month for 2 years to help pay for rent lowincome residents making 30 or less of the countys Median Income will be prioritized in receiving this rent relief to qualify. Applicants must live and work in milpitas. The city received about 1. 4 Million Dollars in state funding to open up this program. Applications will close on may 1st. And another wet winter. Super blooms are expected all across california. The rainfall resulted in huge fields of poppies in places like the Emerald Valley and state parks in Southern California. Mother nature might give us a chance to see a spring super bowl right here in the bay area, too. Drier, Southern California will have more dramatic super blues because they dont get as much rainfall typically to have as much grass compete. Non native grass out competing those flowers as you move further north rainfall increases. You have a high level of grass on there. And so that makes it more competitive and more difficult. So where you do see super blooms in Northern California typically tend to be on areas steep slopes are thinner soils because those are areas that the grass camp established be as competitive. So experts are saying that the bloom in the bay area might not be as vibrant due to all the recent cold temperatures. Several factors that contribute to a super bloom include the rainfall patterns, temperature, fluctuations and soil conditions. So if you do plan to go see a super bloom for yourself, reminder here, picking flowers is not allowed. California state parks Officials Say removing them could mean fewer wildflower seeds to grow next year. And were taking a live look here from our camera atop of mount tam. You can see the clouds that have kind of cool this off today or it certainly cooler out there today, kyle. And youre sounding like a tomorrow is going to be quite chilly. I go. And it shows you that this isnt it crazy. Rich moisture, rich system, but it is a cold system. So that is the impressive part about this is the chill in the air that this is going to provide. So average time that we were about 67 degrees today, were looking at about 63. So a little bit below average tomorrow were looking out for 50 degrees and not to mention the overnight lows tonight getting down into the upper 30s. Now you do see a wild rebound in temperatures. Once we get into next week. Having said that, the next couple of nights, my inner east bay, my valleys in the north bay. Watch out for some of those upper 30s. Its going to be a little bit those temperatures dropping that quickly. And frankly, were not going cover until we get into about monday, right from all of this. So just be ready tomorrow. Not just with the umbrella, but with a warm coat because youre going to feel that when you walk outside, we do rebound, as i mentioned next week with a vengeance. Rescuers spent the entire day combing through the rubble of collapsed buildings using hightech detection devices. First responders look through elevated chefs to find anyone who might still be trapped. We saw children being pulled from the wreckage toward safety. Taiwan Officials Say at least 70 people are trapped in mines and quality and this morning we spoke with passengers who happened to board the first flight into San Francisco after the quake hit. It flooded out as fast as they could. Twothirds of the of meeting room where the always just empty. They were running out into the streets is what i mean. Because they thought it was safe or out in the streets. I guess so. I thought it was safer inside for plea. Local officials in taiwan say more than 90,000 households are without power right now, the Biden Administration is monitoring the situation as well. Today, were kind of in the mediumhigh category. But by tomorrow, once youve got the rain, we drop into the low category and then of course, work our way back. But it does give a little bit relief for anyone out there whos been sneezing or getting itchy eyes, so the next system does arrive thursday morning. Cool. Scattered showers throughout thursday and friday. There is a chance of a thunderstorm in the systems. It also a little bit of low elevation, snow, meaning snow levels dropping to between 2 3,000 feet, which means we could see some of the peaks around the bay area. Get a few snowflakes out there. So High Pressure has been bumped out of the way from the low pressure coming in today. Still relatively calm, just cloudy skies and certainly a feeling of cooler temperatures. But tomorrow is when we get the full effect of the showers and then the cool air really rushing in behind this front. Kind of a classic cold front situation. So what that means is that once we get past tomorrow morning, were going to start to see these highs not be very high, right . So tomorrow looking average highs in the 50s across the entire bay area. We kind of stay there through friday as we get past that and into the weekend and next week, we will start to see that things warm up. Now. Also taking a live look here at yosemite. A fire broke out this motors the headquarters. This happened on monday. The flames destroying one prototype and damaging 3 other electric vehicles. The official with the Alameda CountyFire Department says this fire was first reported about 10, 30 in the morning at a lot where the cars were being stored. It took crews about 3 hours to put out the fire. No one was injured and the cause is currently under investigation. 2 people were arrested following an attempted catalytic converter theft that turned into a highspeed chase in san bruno on monday. Police say a man and a woman tried to steal a catalytic converter in a neighborhood east of el camino. Real neared florida avenue. The car owner confronted the people who pointed a gun at the owner before driving away and officer tried to stop them but says they did not stop. And then is accusing them of breaking the speed limit driving on the wrong side of the road and throwing objects at officers. They were finally stopped in san mateo and arrested. Alameda county sheriffs deputies have arrested a man they say was behind a road rage shooting in san lorenzo last month. They say on march second and ruger shot at 2 people on the well in boulevard hurting one of them. The victim was hit in the leg and arm. Detectives then tracked cougars vehicle and during his arrest, they found to legally owned guns. One of which was the same caliber as the weapon used in the shooting. So now hes been charged with attempted murder and other gunrelated charges. San franciscos medical examiner has released the identity of the 17 yearold was shot and killed by 2 other teens at a bart station. Jordan, millie brady died on thursday night after the shooting at the powell street plaza that said the park station there right off of market street. 2. 16 yearolds have been arrested in connection with his death. If it gets the final approval, then the sound amplifier restriction would go into effect 30 days later. The San Francisco board of supervisors are against the name change to the oakland ainport. Oakland airport officials want to change the name from metropolitan Oakland International airport. 2 San Francisco bay, Oakland International airport and airport Officials Say the name change would hepp boost the airports global visibility and attract more travelers.
