Investigators arrested and charged the driver. 78 yearold mary folau for the crash. It was a vigil last night for the family members killed. Well, 4 Sarah Stinson has that story. People continue to visit this growing memorial. Solemn musicfilled, San Franciscos west portal neighborhood monday night as hundreds of people stood together in both grief and solidarity. Thats where a family of 4 was struck by a car on saturday waiting for the to take their kids to the zoo, which is what this family was doing. A mom, dad and child were killed. In fact, as of monday, out of more than 7 million ballots cast, the margin between the yes and no sides stood at roughly 20,000 vote as a result. Newsoms Political Action committee. So it was found guilty of corruption and willful misconduct. The charges stem from allegation she traded concealed weapon permits all in exchange for donations to her reelection campaign. Hospice appeal argue that by retiring prior to be found guilty of those 6 corruption and willful misconduct charges. The removal proceedings disqualified her from jury service and job will no longer necessary. But the appellate judges disagree and holding that original decision. The Police Arrested a woman suspected of stabbing her mother to death. Stabbing happened just before 3 sunday afternoon. Congress passed part of the annual government budget earlier this month, but theyre still working to get the rest of it done. And the current funding expires on friday. Democratic senator tim kaine also says this should have been results sooner but blames the delays on House Republican fighting over choosing a new speaker that really slowed the process down this year. So here we are march 6 months into the fiscal year and finally getting the budget and last week at a republican retreat, Speaker Mike Johnson expressed optimism that lawmakers can get it done. Heading up 80 temporarily reverse at emeryville head back down to 80 and get on the ramp itself. If you are heading into the city or from 9. 80, we also have reports that that backup stretches on the connector right there, try to focus on getting on 8. 80, rather heading around west oakland and then onto the bridge over here, avoiding this stretch of 5 all costs again, this is a fatality. Chp has released several ports saying this a likely to be due to what was a wrongway vehicle that as of right now on the cad did collide with 2 other vehicles. No reports just yet on who which vehicles, the fatalities were involved in. But this is resulting in a major backup likely to form more and more as this morning commute picks up. So again, a t heading down 80 itself getting off highway 24 in berkeley avoiding that 5. 80, stretch are the best pieces of advice you can do right now. Happening today, the city of oakland could change the way Police Respond to alarms. Under the proposed ordinance, Law Enforcement can only respond to the alarm if a crime has been confirmed. Michael thomas in the newsroom with a breakdown and how they plan to do this. Good morning, michael. Hi, good morning, everyone. While oakland city Officials Say that the change in this ordinance would allow police more time to focus on actual crimes rather than false alarms. But Alarm Company say the change may lead to even more crimes happening as thats what theyve seen happen in other cities with ordinance like this is passed. So lets break it all down. What is a verified alarm system . Well, its a system that requires private Alarm Companies to verify that a crime is actually happening before police are actually dispatched to that location. And its done so by video, audio or other means of confirmation. And this new ordinance passed an initial vote earlier this month. That would now if that is now set to be verified today, that would require all new alarmed installs to be verified response, alarm systems and require that all existing alarm users with non verified systems convert to a verified system. Once they have 2 or more false alarms. Now those backing the change say that Oakland Police reported 98 of its alarm responses were false alarms and resulted in the agency being less available to respond to actual burglaries and emergency calls in the area. The California Alarm Association says this change punishes people that have invested in protecting themselves and their property, adding that this style of policing has been tried in the past and was repealed by cities throughout the country. As citizens have complained about rising crime rates and overall public safety. And this includes cities like san jose and 3 others in california. Oakland Officials Say the change did work for other cities like las vegas. So right now the to go back and forth. But the Association Says it feels both alarm industry officials and the public should be able to have a discussion about the change before things are finalized later today. And we did reach out to the oakland officials this morning for a comment regarding the response from the California Alarm Association. We have not heard back as of yet. The Association Says they really just want to have an open dialogue with them. Amending some of those finally stations to make sure that it works on both. Live in the newsroom.
