Now this morning, we continue to follow the deadly crash involving a family of 4 in San Franciscos west portal neighborhood. Police have confirmed that a 3rd person sadly died from their injuries. Kron fours Michael Thomas in San Francisco. Now with the latest on what happened. A tragic situation to say the least 3 out of those 4 family members dying because of this accident over the weekend. And that one survivor, an infant listed under Critical Condition and still in the hospital today. It happened saturday afternoon in San Franciscos west portal neighborhood on a low, a street. Officials say the driver of an suv slammed into a muni bus shelter while driving eastbound hitting multiple people and leaving 3 dead. 2 died at the scene with a 3rd dying in the hospital sunday. Neighbors tell us it was a family of 4 that was hit and the father and child died at the scene and the mother is the one who passed in the hospital. Police have confirmed that there is one survivor thats an infant and currently remains in Critical Condition, adding that the driver of the suv was also injured and that the accident is still under investigation. But they do not believe Traffic Engineering was a factor. We spoke with a Sustainable Transportation advocate that says he started a petition on like to have the intersection close permanently. Within one block of here, theres a library. Theres multiple schools as a park in a you know, theres a church, theres merchant corridor. This is not the place they should have covered. Car traffic going through and some people want to see it safe. A vigil has been scheduled for 5 oclock this evening when it comes to details regarding what may have caused the crash. Officials say its still under investigation as we get more information regarding the driver of that suv. And an update on the condition of that infant will keep you updated. A fire breaks out inside the gym at Amador Valley high school in pleasanton last night. Its out now. But here you can see in the video what it looked like while it was burning. A lot of smoke there billowing into the air. The unofficial with the Pleasanton Unified School district says they havent been able to survey the damage just yet. They got to wait for the building to be secured and more safe. Meanwhile, fire investigators say at this point. They dont know the cause of the death just yet the cause of the fire just yet. School says they will be Holding Classes today, but obviously the gym is going to be off limits. Also in the east bay, berkeley, police are investigating the citys first homicide of the year yesterday afternoon. Officers found the victim stabbed to death on University Avenue between san pablo avenue and sacramento street. Police arrested one person that they believe was involved. Antioch police now investigating the suspicious death of a man who was found badly burned contra costa. Fire crews were called to the scene by Police Saturday after the discovery of a burned body in the back area of the 2900 block ellen court. Crime scene investigators have since taken over the case. Persons cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. In the north bay. A man now recovering from a major injury after a drunk driver hit the mans car. Look at the scene here. Rohnert park police shared this picture of the aftermath. It happened just after 02 30am, in the morning yesterday at the intersection of rohnert park. Expressway and commerce boulevard. Police say a woman driving the red Toyota Pickup truck had 2 men riding with her when she crashed into that grace eye on. They say the driver failed a sobriety test, but she and her 2 passengers were expected to be okay. However, the man driving the grace ion had to be extricated from the car and taken to the hospital for surgery. No word yet on his condition this morning. In Petaluma Police now investigating to drunk driving accidents. One of which sent a motorcyclist to the hospital. Police say the first crash happened at about 11 oclock saturday night when a man rear ended a motorcyclist while driving on petaluma boulevard. They say he admitted to driving under the influence. The motorcyclist had to go to the hospital with a possible broken leg and then a few hours later, officers say a man crashed his car into a roundabout and then ran off. This happened on south mcdowell boulevard and baywood drive. Police ended up finding him hiding between 2 houses a few blocks away. Pretrial proceeding has begun in the case of 2018 fatal crash involving a tesla in mountain view. Lawsuit alleges the teslas autopilot system caused that crash. This is actually the second settlement stemming from a lawsuit filed indias who is a black man who worked as an elevator operator at the companys fremont plant. Police say 4, maybe 5 people were in the car at the time right before 6 oclock friday morning when all this played out. Once inside, though, police say the wouldbe burglars discovered they really couldnt access anything of value. So they ran off. Nobody was reported hurt. Police are still looking for the suspects this morning. The Petaluma Police Department Says more than 30 vehicles were targeted in what appears to be a car breakin spree. The thieves happened or the thefts happened all over the city saturday night. Officers say it happened at the petaluma village premium outlets. The saint vincents High School Parking lot. The Sheraton Hotel just to name a few. Police department. Officials now asking anyone who lives in the area to check your home surveillance cameras. You may have footage showing the thieves doing what they were doing. In the south bay. A man now recovering from injuries after police say a drunk driver struck him on 2. 80. We have video of the scene just north of vine street. This is about 11 00pm friday night. Chp says they arent sure why the man was walking on to 80, but he was when this white bmw hit him headon. When officers arrived, the victim was unresponsive and taken to the hospital. The driver was arrested. No word on how the victims doing are still looking for that update. But judge appointed a special master now to oversee the womens prison in dublin. Its all part of a lawsuit filed by 8 inmates claiming abuse from some of the prison workers. It all comes after the fbi rated that prison last week. And as we first reported, agents seized computers and documents among other items since 2021 7 prison employees either pleaded guilty convicted of abuse. Another case is still pending. So the suit accuses the coffee giant of discriminating against customers who are lactose intolerant. The women filing the lawsuit are lactose intolerant and they can claim the Company Charges an extra 50 to 0. 80 for customers like them who order nondairy milk in their drinks. Starbucks wouldnt comment on the suit. But a spokesperson said that customers can access nondairy options with no extra charges. What crafts retailer joanne has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. We have new details now about a shooting and a car chase that injured 4 Sonoma County sheriffs deputies. Officials released 911, audio and body camera footage showing what happened. Were going to walk you through it. Just want to warn you some of you may find this video disturbing. Were going to begin, though, with the 911 call that brought police to the scene. Yes, i we havent got become for many are trading desk. Youve like a ripe for funding. Authorities say that jose Luis Cervantez showed up at a nightclub on stony point at todd rhodes. He was kicked out the night before but police say he came back to that business with an ak 47 style Assault Rifle and threatened to shoot people when deputies arrived, though he drove off gators, say he eventually pulled into a parking lot on todd and standish roads and that is where he opened fire on deputies with that Assault Rifle. And here is some of the body camera footage showing you that. Investigators say after firing several times about his got back into his car, go back to the club and then led police on a chase that ended in this crash that you see on your screen. So that is died at the scene. And during that shootout for deputies were hurt. 3 are recovering at home, but that 4th deputy suffered a head injury. He was actually run over by fellow deputy in all the confusion. The deputy still in the hospital. Meanwhile, Oakland Police are now investigating 2 separate friday night shootings. The first happened at about 10, 30 friday night on 100nd avenue. Not far from international boulevard and esperanza elementary school. Police say they found a San Francisco man shot. He later died at the scene. And oakland man was taken into custody for that shooting. Police havent shared any details on that arrest just yet. Well let you know when we find out. Meanwhile, the second shooting happened just before one in the Morning Saturday on international boulevard at the corner, 8th avenue right near clinton park officers on the scene say they found evidence of a shooting but couldnt find a victim. Police later learned that a person suffering from gunshot wounds took themselves to the hospital. Were also following more trouble for United Airlines this time. A flight leaving sfo. But the problem wasnt discovered until landed in oregon. Kron fours dan thorn with the story. Another issue for United Airlines flight leaving sfo after landing at Rogue Valley International medford airport friday afternoon. United aircraft was found without an external panel. Medford airport spokesperson says they were forced to briefly pause operations on the runway to look for any debris. None was found. This is a very minor incident in the grand scheme of things. Retired commercial Airline Pilot doug rice says. The external panel is an aluminum fairing which helps smooth the air against the plane making for a smoother ride. This specific boeing 7. 37. Is a 25 yearold aircraft. And rice says at that age metal fatigue can set these aircraft, go through a significant amount of 8 minutes they should be catching these things. What were learning now is that we have to be more aware of these things as they go through maintenance and double checking and triple checking the this latest issue for united is making some passengers feel uneasy on thursday. A flight approaching sfl had a hydraulic leak with some smoke seen by the landing gear. Last week, a japanbound plane lost a wheel during takeoff and had to make an Emergency Landing in los angeles. And on monday, a united flight bound for sfo from australia was forced to turn around because of a maintenance issue. I think its a little bit the scary the fact that this keeps coming up all the sudden. And i i dont know if its because we havent been aware and now we are. I always said, and its its an immediate issue that were dealing with. Its scary for people. United spokesperson says there wasnt an Emergency Landing in oregon because there was no indication of damage during the flight. And in the north bay deputies in Sonoma County airlifted a camper who experienced what they called a severe medical emergency out of lake sonoma this weekend, the Sonoma County Sheriffs Office shared this video showing deputies using the helicopter to rescue that camper from the campgrounds. First responders flew the patient to an awaiting air ambulance, which then transfer them to a local hospital. No word on that patients condition. Here you see emergency crews responding to a crash in San Franciscos Pacific Heights neighborhood citizen app video showing the car flipped over onto its side. There you see in the background this was on jackson street right near the house of prime rib. San francisco. Fire crews say the driver of that car also crashed into some parked cars. They say the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. No word yet on what caused the crash. In the east bay. Antioch. Police now are looking for a driver who hit a pedestrian and then sped off. Happened little after one 30 in the morning on saturday. Officers say a kia sedan struck a man right near wilbur avenue, then drove off. The man died at the scene. Happening tomorrow. The sfmta will discuss where it plans to install 33 speed cameras next year in San Francisco, transit officials are looking now to install some of them in places like school zones and areas that have seen sideshows in the past. Officers say the first or Officials Say the first time that youre caught with these cameras are going to be sent a warning. But after that, youre going to get a fine for breaking the law. We would be very happy if this Program Earns no revenue. What were trying to do is change behavior. The Supreme Court is considering whether the Biden Administration violated the First Amendment by urging social media platforms to remove some post that the administration decided were false or misleading. Dc correspondent Trevor Shirley is in washington now with more. The case was brought by 2 republican attorneys general who accuse the white house of being on a campaign of censorship. The case centers on the white houses efforts to combat misinformation, specifically related to covid19 and the 2020 election. The lawsuit claims the administration colluded with social media platforms to identify individuals and organizations that the white house believe were responsible for disinformation since last year. The case has been making its way towards the Supreme Court. A lower Court Previously decided the administration likely had gone too far and urging social Media Companies to remove specific content. The counter the governments positions. The white house says the government should be able to work with social Media Companies to address matters of public concern, especially related to safety. If this court reaches the merits and should reaffirm the government speech crosses the line into coercion, only viewed objectively it conveys a threat of adverse government action. And because no thats happened here, the Court Reversed the government has no right to persuade platforms to violate americans. Constitutional rights and pressuring platforms in back rooms, shielded from public view is not using the bully pulpit at all. Thats just being a bully. And the outcome of todays arguments is expected to have a longterm major impact on how the government can interact with social media platforms.
