We have just found out that there are a number of protesters protesting israelhamas conflict and they have descended upon the International Terminal. So we know that this is causing trouble and now the fallout. We dont know as far as if the if its going to mean that you cant get to a flight or a gate that you need to get to. But they we do know that theyve sort of flooded the International Terminal at sfo. Yeah. The latest word from the protesters themselves. They claim to rank in like 300 or so. Thats the number theyre putting out. So were waiting for our live reporters on the scene to verify that. And 2. Get more information on what impact this is going to have for you as youre heading to the airport either to catch a flight or to pick up somebody from the airport. We dont know. We know kron fours will tran is heading there. He was reporting earlier from redwood city. So hes not too far away as soon as he gets on scene and sets up a signal, were going to get their lives. I mean, our concern is that they would somehow impact your being able to get to the gate and that kind of thing. You know, you have to go through tsa so they cant get to the gates without. As you know, boarding pass and id and all that. But, you know, sfo is open in public and you could walk into the terminal if you like. And if that becomes a problem and they are concerned about crowd control, thats kind of where its going affect the public. So youre going to need to know about that. The legislation comes amid growing concern over the Chinese Governments ability to access Data Collected by tiktok. This is a serious issue. We didnt come to it lightly. Last week, a House Committee unanimously passed the legislation that could potentially ban the social media app here in the u. S. Algorithm site. Tracking pipe hill and tracking people. Its dangerous for young people in weve got to find a way to rein it in as it stands. The bill would force the Chinese Company bytedance to sell its ownership of tiktok or face a u. S. Ban were dealing with here is very specific concerns. But the structure of this company and its relationship with the Chinese Government and the Chinese Communist party, the fbi and the fcc warren bytedance could share tiktok user data with the Chinese Communist party. Something tiktok denies. But some lawmakers worry a ban could limit the rights of americans. Some of us are concerned that their First Amendment implications here. Americans have the right to view information. Supporters argue thats not the case. Our bill is not an act of censorship is a safeguard for citizens firewall against foreign adversary controlled applications. Others say Congress Needs a more comprehensive approach to all social media. Not just tiktok. We cant just single out one. I dont think we fully appreciate the impact. This is going to have. 905, right now. And in the south bay, investigators are looking at a rash of copper thefts from the th train tracks. There been 2 dozen deaths just this year. One 2 people arrested so far in kron 4 Sarah Stinson gets us up to speed. The 2 people arrested are accused of stealing 10,000 worth of copper from the tracks of eta. On monday, a train operator actually witnessed the theft. Thieves are targeting the Valley Transportation Authority in the south bay, stealing copper from the tracks. The Santa Clara CountySheriffs Office says it is investigating 2 dozen copper theft cases causing a total of half a Million Dollars in damage to Railway Property that some people risking their lives and they during the public for about 10, a pound, the latest copper theft happening in broad daylight monday, a train operator witness this happening near the tracks on the vta cropley light rail station in san jose. A person was seen with a white pickup truck less than an hour later, deputies were told the same truck was spotted at vta station in sunnyvale. You were able to detain the suspects. And which resulted in fighting. Actually, im copper wire that was stolen from that vta station. 60 yearold daniel mail and 55 yearold frank pacheco. Bulls got arrested for suspicion of having stolen property, conspiracy and possession of meth. The ongoing copper thefts not only disrupt vta operations, but also put trains in danger when copper being absent. Were no longer able to track train movement. We are not able to provide a signal protection for our trades. And we are not able to get you activate guevara protection. That intersection its not known yet if the 2 people arrested are responsible for any of the other thefts. The Sheriffs Office is working with vta to track down any more thieves involved for anyone out in the if theyve been do see anything suspicious of anyone looking like they have a water hose or anything like that near vta definitely call it in to us that we can go out there investigating. We spoke with someone who works at a metal scrapyard business to learn about how they ensure the copper they are buying is not stolen. He told us they dont take copper from just anyone. They take many precautions, including taking a picture of the person, their car and their id. If the city doesnt fix the problem, more than 200 Business Owners have agreed to participate in this boycott. One of them has been running multiple stores in the city for the past. 35 years. It should be just a. Its out of control as far as it gets, Business Owners are feeling they feel the pressure that they are not being protected. But the city of oakland and they paid so much taxes. I mean, theres taxes. I mean, uk will get even there count on the taxes that we pay per year. And plus, we losing all the insurance coverage. Well, to be clear, we dont know if this tax boycott will actually happen, but well be following the story. Meanwhile, mayor sheng thao says that oakland is making progress towards fighting crime. She sent this statement which reads in part, quote, since the summer of 2023 oaklands Business District has experienced a reduction in most property crimes. We have more Police Officers in my first year as mayor than weve had in the last 2 and a half years. We restored foot patrols and motorcycle traffic units conducted focused operations with specialized units and expand its safety. Ambassador programs. Its confusing. Its people dont know where to turn. Thats Karen Janssen and shes a lawyer and her firm is teaming up with the group writes behind bars to sue the dublin federal prison. Theyre hoping to improve conditions there. On monday, fbi agents raided the double a facility taking multiple boxes of potential evidence. All we know is that the fbi, they did the facility took i believe they also may have taken computers. And we also know that the same time almost the entire executive staff was let go or removed, no longer working. There. And that includes individuals who in january testified about how they were making positive changes. In a statement kron 4, a spokesperson for the bureau of prisons said a new team was charged with developing a plan for the future of the facility. Back in 2021, the fbi also raided the facility and that lead to the warden gray garcia of being charged and then convicted with multiple counts of abuse for ordering incarcerated women to pose naked and 7 others. Were also found guilty of abuse. The judge overseeing both the criminal and the civil cases has called a special hearing. Jansen says they want an outside moderator to be appointed as well. All new this morning dollar tree has announced its going to be closing nearly 1000 stores over the next several years. Dollar tree says it plans to close 600 Family Dollar stores in the 1st half of this year alone. Dollar tree acquired that chain Family Dollar almost 10 years ago. And then after the initial round of those closures, another 370 Family Dollar stores are set to close along with 30 tree stores themselves, not known yet if any bay area locations will be impacted will let you know when we find out. These are demonstrators are calling for peace in the middle east between israel and hamas in gaza at this point, we know there are demonstrators outside the terminal and inside as well. Theyre both inside and outside the so at this point, were trying to see if thats affecting travelers being able to get through to where they want to go to get into the airport to go catch a flight as some of the images that were seeing shows a number of demonstrators blocking. Access to the security gates to get through tsa. We do have will tran on the way along with Charles Clifford. So both of those reporters heading to the scene, they should be on location shortly. And once theyre set up, were going to have a firsthand look at whats going on both inside and outside the International Terminal. There at sfo. And again, were following breaking news this morning out of San FranciscoInternational Airport where the International Terminal terminal one there at the airport has been disrupted by hundreds of protesters who are blocking access to the tsa gate. Theyve assembled there to get their message out that they want peace in the middle east. They want an end to the war between israel and hamas in gaza and to get that message across. They are disrupting the flow of traffic outside of the International Terminal and foot traffic inside as passengers are trying to get through security to get on to their gates. And at this point thats being hampered by these demonstrators, although i will say sfo did put out a tweet about 15 minutes ago that said, and ill read it to you here. There is a protest in the International Terminal. The terminal remains open. Passengers are being rerouted around the activity. And so and heres another thing if if there are enough passengers. That cant get to a what they do sometimes is they delays. We might start seeing more delays and maybe love a Ripple Effect, too. But that we see more delays when planes are because if theres you know, 10, 2050, people that cant get through, they yeah. And so we may see delays but it does free people out when they say, well, i got to make a plane, right . I cant get through the line is going to take me longer. Just know that if it is a massive situation, everybody is elated that they usually will delay the plane to get those people on delay for one or people. But they do for 10, 20 or 30. And this happened about 8. 45 or so. So were little more than a half hour into it. We do have will tran on the way there. And Charles Clifford as well. So once they get on scene and we establish our live signal, theyve had a chance to talk to the demonstrators and also to airport staff. You can get to the airport. Theres underground parking, by the way, too. And you can get to the airport that way. So thats one way to make this a little easier for you to catch your flight and dont be afraid, right . By the way, if enough people are having trouble getting to flight. Odds are theyre going to delay those light and this is why theyre recommending you go to the longterm parking lot to drop off people because the road which takes you directly to the terminal itself is blocked by demonstrators in the streets. Once you get inside. You see demonstrators are blocking access to the tsa lines at and apparently also at g gate as well. So those 2 locations, but sfo says that they are managing the situation. Once youre inside, they say passengers are being rerouted around the activity in some way or i have to wait and its you know, heres something to james. I was just thinking if you drop somebody off, not only is going to be. Can take more time and less luggage or they have to check in at the main, right . You know, if they cant go straight to tsa and they got to get to the main counter lines. We dont know if thats kind of branching out and its it. So and again, its good to see the outside view here to run that with the fact that the cars are stopped. Now, remember when we saw protests stop on the bay bridge and they just dessert of their cars, that became an issue. We dont know how long hes going to last. Even if they move the protesters that you physically see inside. What about all the cars outside, and thats the issue. And were not sure if these are the same demonstrators that block the bay bridge. Its the same messaging. Theyre calling for peace in the middle east. They want us to stop supporting israel in its war with hamas. But in any event, its having the same effect. It is slowing your flow of getting where you need to go. This case. Its air travelers that are feeling it as opposed to drivers on the bay bridge. Your is at 9. 31, we know this has been happening for what about an hour 35 almost an hour. Almost an hour. We we are going to monitor flights because if this is gumming up flights and flights are being held and delayed because of that, them that could have a Ripple Effect as well. So were going to continue to take a look at whether flights are departing on time. This isnt going to affect arrivals at the moment. But if the flights are at the gate longer than that could, in of all traffic at the moment, really about 40 flights delayed pretty typical for sfo. But is that really starts to climb . Well, obviously, let you know, as weve been saying, problems will tran is heading there along with Charles Clifford we were expecting will to maybe arrive by now. But given the video that we saw outside of all the cars jammed up, just trying to to the terminal oil. Kind of helps answer why he has. Hes not on scene just yet. But yeah, thats why airport officials are advising everybody. If youre being dropped off, especially for taking an uber informed the driver that you want to be dropped off right at night that longterm parking lot, the rental car lot because then you can take that free. Airtran shuttle right of the terminal has several im does make your day lot longer. So got a real i hope that off more. You know, somebody is traveling and youre watching the news and theyre not watching and theyre just go. Youve got to tell them about this. And you know, it might be a situation where you go. If i have a connection to make, this is going to delay me. I dont. And you want to just, you know, avoid the airport all together and obviously avoided if you dont need to go near it as well because probably start to see backup around the exit for the airport as well that tends to happen. And then once youre there, take the airtrain over, ok, we dont know how many flights going to impact because of this . But that is a note straight from the airport. So were also taking a look at the area around the airport, not seeing major delays as youre traveling along 2. 81 right now. Well keep a close eye on things there. They bridge 14 minute ride traveling into the city right now. No more Traffic Building at the toll plaza like it was for most of the morning, 14 min around 80 to 101 heading across towards peninsula. Air travelers both internationally and domestically as well because now the domestic tsa lines are having to absorb all of the International Flyers who cant get through the tsa gates there in the international because of this crush of protesters that are blocking the entrance points to the International Gates that you want to go through.
