We have trained our folks on on every signature. We have special equipment. This seems like the something is one with the signature. So we check every ballot that comes through specifically. She says Staff Members check the signature on the back of the return envelope and compare it with the original Voter Registration signature. Should there be a major discrepancy . Staff will investigate further and may reach out to the voter. On the technology side. Weber stresses every tabulation machine has been tested and retested. We check of several different times to make sure that its correct. We also open up our offices, your regular registrar of voters office. They have ways in which you can observe what is taking place. You can observe the ballots coming in. And theyre not very strong, right . Just a little bit. But it still is out there just letting you know that were not quite done with this yet. As we look at futurecast, we stay unsettled as you can see here as we get through the evening, the north bay likely to pick up a few more showers and then we get into tomorrow and again, you see this in the morning. Just a few showers popping up here and theyre stronger line rolling through later in the afternoon and evening. But it mostly stays to the north of us. But because the north bay is closer to that, you can catch a little from that wednesday afternoon that low pressure system starts to drop to the south. And when that happens, it is going to kick up a little bit of energy our way. And i think that we could have the potential to get some more kind of significant showers and then clearing out by the time we get to thursday. So not a lot of rain, but about a 10th of an inch for most of us. But here in the north bay, thats where we could see totals that go, you know, from a quarter of an inch to almost maybe 3 quarters of an depending on where you are. If youre a little tired of that, lets talk about this for second sunset tonight at 06 00pm, 6 in a month from now, its at 7. 35. Daylight is increasing. You see where im going with this. Dont wait, call and switch today nearly a foot of snow in 24 hours. Uc berkeley, Sierra Snow Lab releasing data this morning from the storm that slammed the sierra. So that brings the total to more than 6 feet. So joining us now to talk about what theyre seeing is the lead scientists from the lab and are short. Thanks for being a friend with us here this afternoon. We appreciate your time. So how did the storm do . 6 feet is a lot of snow. 6 feet is indeed a lot of snow and its still snowing outside. So we might have even a little bit at the next measurement from this storm. Overall, though, the big story really was the wind and blizzard conditions which made travel and impossible along. I80 at times was even so severe that we were shaking and the lab from the got. So, yeah, the winds were certainly weapon. With the amount of snow that weve gotten so far, do you think will be able to get to 100 of the snow pack for water . Weve come a long way from that. 28 1 of normal january 1st, were now at 104 of normal for this date and 94 average for april. First measurement. So we only have 6 to make up in the next month and is looking pretty likely. That will be that thats not bad. Sophie get 100 . What does that . What does that mean . Well, you know, we were already good from the large water year that we had last year. So just getting to average this year, maybe even above average means that we can carry the benefits of last years abundant water forward even further if we were below average that we have to make some of that extra water storage in our reservoirs. We have to make up for that here. The fact that we average here after a big year means we can carry those benefits forward in time. Alright, average is fine. We can settle with that. And he said its snowing right now. Theres more snow expected for later on in the week. So its snowing right now. Yeah, weve got a little bit of snow coming in over the next several days in the northern portions of the state. Not so much here to central and southern parts, but moving forward in time. Were looking at a couple storm systems that will be coming too early to put really numbers on things. But it looks like theyll help bulk of our snow pack as well. Can you tell if theyre cold . Storms are warm storms because that seems had a big impact this year for us. At this point in time theyre or so kind of realistically more giving us some some snowfall not quite as much rain, well see how the forecast shapes up and and fingers crossed for mortgages now. All right. We talk about thosed the winds. I know youre this the snow lab, but that the winds were shaking the windows in your office. I mean, how bad was up there since you were there . And we stay down here. Tell us a little bit about what the storm is like. It wasnt just the windows. Actually, you could feel the action. The structure itself vibrate at times with how strong the wind speeds were now work, relatively sheltered here and probably got gusts of maybe 60 to 80 miles an but, you know, some of those ranges were recording wind speeds well, over 150 miles an hour easily into the Hurricane Force wind around and blowing that snow around, which means it very dangerous outside of times. So when is the next no survey set to be done . Is it going to be april 1st . It will be april. First, we just wrapped the march first snow survey, which was about 84 . Weve already gained a ton of ground on that and so the next will be around the first of next month. Okay. And i know we have the you talked about the storms that are coming with no more snow came. We would still be fine. If no more snow came, were still in good shape. Okay. How are you feeling about this winter so far with the snow amounts . Well, its its been a good winter. As far as you know, its been a little bit on the lighter side, but it has been roughly average. You know, earlier this year, there was a little bit of concern. And worry over the fact that we were so low. And i think a lot of in the Water Community just said, you know, weve seen years like this before. Weve seen the late year late season raleigh into giving us the snow pack that we need. Unfortunately, thats whats happened. So it shaped up to be a good snow us new year so far. All right. Well, we will check back with you later on as it sounds like some more storms are coming shorts from the central Sierra Snow Lab. Thank you for joining us. Appreciate your time. Thanks again. All right. A new crew is now headed to the International Space station. This is crew 8 members and they are on a mission. Their names on this, a new mission. Our matthew dominick, michael barrett. Janette apps as well as Alexander Graham back in russia. They blasted off yesterday from cape canaveral, florida. The launch was delayed for about 3 days because of high winds and the new crew is going to oversee the arrival of 2 new rocket ships as they stay abroad in the station. Now for 6 months, it was quite the unusual sight on this highway in ohio to see whats going on right there. This is video from the Ohio Department of transportation is showing traffic coming to a stop as 2 horses. Gallop down the interstate. The horses racing down. I90 in cleveland. They were eventually caught. And Officials Say that they escaped from the Cleveland Police tables. The state Public Utilities commission recently announced millions of us here in california could be saving money on our utility bills in april state Officials Saying through the states cap and trade program over 20 million customers will receive credits from 32 275 on their electric bills. And then about 60 to 80 on the gas bill. So thats about an average credit of about 150 on a utility bill for the month of april. Lets see if the temperatures are going to drop enough or we might actually need to turn on the heat. Kyle us in the Weather Center with the latest. Yeah, ive been kind of doing nothing really. I dont t ink i need it. But then i did turn down just a little bit over the weekend. And if you are up say in the north bay last night or maybe the east bay inland, you probably turned your heat up because you got to get down to the 30s. The clouds that were seeing out there right now, theyre actually be helpful for those overnight. Lows are going to be a little happier this evening that you were last night. Very chilly. I think was center is going 35 napa got down to 37 last night. I saw conquer got down to 39 warmer tonight, everybody. We should be looking much better. Temperatures in the 40s said that cloud cover will be. Theyre going to feel a little humidity in the air as well as we still have that unsettled condition around us of lows and looking out for tonight, much more palatable for you and santa rosa about 44 degrees taking over napa. 45 concord . 43. Yeah. Ill take that over close to freezing the day of the week. Im looking pretty good for that. So lets take a live look at our satellite and radar. And you can see, as i mentioned, we are still unsettled. This will be kind of the theme of our weather over the next couple of days. You do see a little snow still falling in the sierra. So they are dealing with cleaning up, but still having a little bit of snow around there and very chilly temperatures. And then, of course, weve had just the tiniest bit of rain kind of rolling through the north bay. Some of this maybe not hitting the ground, but some of that probably making the roads a little bit slick. So if you are going to be headed home this afternoon or this evening, just be aware of that. You might need those in, you know, the wind chill evers on intermittent may be on the slowest setting every once in a while. So tomorrow similar to today. But notice that when we get to tomorrow, temperatures starting to lift up particularly inland. Now we should be in the low 60s out in spaces like San Francisco to up to the mid 60s almost as we head inland. Now, tomorrow we get closer to where we should be at least inland. If you are out on the peninsula or out by the coast, you can see were still looking out for some 50s. But this is the beginning of a little bit of a warmup there. Were going to see go right through thursday before we then cool it down again. So as we take a look at our extended forecast here, you can see tonight were going to have that chance of showers that continues for us tomorrow. But even so we will start to see the temperatures lift up a little bit tomorrow and then by wednesday, this is what i think were going to see the potential of some heavier downpours to come in, pariicularly in the afternoon and particularly for those of you in the north bay. Thats what i think were going to pick up a little more rain. Total. Then by thursday, were clearing out. Were drying out. Temperatures are lifting up to kind of where we should be this time of year. We should be looking really good. And friday just looks like an absolutely gorgeous way to end the week. There was some sunshine temperatures in the mid 60s. Now i know we get to the weekend. Youre seeing going. Whats going on here . It does look like this is what we call beneficial rain, meaning that it wont be something thats going to cause flooding or b a huge deluge of rain. But it is going to provide some showers, especially the 1st half of the day. They will come in from northwest to southeast. So meaning the north bay gets hit first and then it rolls through the peninsula and then into the east bay finally to the south bay. So i do believe that by saturday later in the day will be looking pretty good. And your sunday right now, looking like the better day of the 2. If you have outdoor plans, having said that, it will be, you know, is cloudy skies for part of the day, at least. And where does this temperatures roll back down again . And you can see by monday, another shot at some showers, though. This kind of continuing cool, very wintery feeling where we have all that chance of rain and then really kind of below average temperatures continues worse this week. But we do get that break as we get into thursday and friday and im looking forward to that break. Have it. You just the need since. And thats for sure.
