Right. Lets pull of the san mateo bridge. This is what you need to know this morning. The reason why drive times around 31 minutes there is because of Early Morning crash. We had westbound 90 just east of the toll plaza. We currently know that one lane is still blocked and 2 lanes are open. As you can see, traffic is just behind this shot where those lanes of that lane is blocked. There. Now, this 3 vehicles were involved in that crash. 2 vehicles ended up in a ditch. And so that shut down the entire westbound side of the bridge for at least 15 minutes. So we had residual delays and a backup because of that. Right now, if you are looking at the map this morning, if you are going to be hopping on 8, 80 look at that, fred, all across 8. 80, and on mission boulevard as well. So that accident were seeing spillover. All those and jason highways. Now again, 92 westbound just east of the toll plaza. You can see thats where that crash initially happened. A lot of people are also trying to maneuver and take the dunbar bridge. And you can see that right now. Were up to 30 minutes there, 80 in menlo park. If you are traveling san mateo bridge, pretty backed up as well as the dunbar bridge this morning. Now, those are the only issues weve had. A Richmond Center fell bridge. We actually had an overnight crash, a big rig crashed into the toll plaza last night and the toll booth actually caught on fire. There. So crews have been on scene trying to clean that up for most of the morning 3 westbound lanes on the Richmond Center fell bridge are currently back open at this hour drive times have been slow down and you can see there still working to clear that scene yesterday. A lot of people were at home because of the holiday. Now that people are traveling again this morning, the bay bridge, if youre going to be taken that no accidents, thankfully, still a pretty busy. 25 minute right now, weve been talking about the traffic as well as the weather. And james, im thinking that maybe the rain out there. So is a lot yeah. Who could potentially be . Weve got Michael Thomas actually out like i dont know rain if you can bring up that. Matthew had, yeah, hey, word will bring of the map but they were. Well, Michael Thomas is out there. I want i just want to point if we can get that up. I know its a little out of order of the control room can maybe so they havent up right now on your screen. Yeah, thats the live shot. But your traffic map on tracker right there. You see that exclamation point. The triangle deep in the heart of hayward. That is where Michael Thomas is stuck in all of that red that you see on the map. In fact, he joins us now live with a firsthand look of this condition. The situation as people are slowly trying to make their way to the san mateo bridge. Michael, what are you seeing . Hi, good morning, everyone. Im behind the camera right now. But you know, we are right near 80 and santa clara street right off 92 where they need. You can see just that gridlock. Take a look over the 8. 80, right there. Just complete stop all the way. And im going to turn the camera the opposite with you can see at this intersection specifically on santa clara street. All 4 ways are backed up and take a look at 92 right here. I mean, all that traffic all the way down going well into hayward. And that is what i was stuck in earlier. And again, it goes almost 2 towards downtown hayward. It took me about 30 to 40 minutes or so to go about maybe a half a mile and these people, you know, as driving by telling me that theyre experiencing exact same type thing. I am near a gas station where people were stopping, you know, to putting gassing that they were basically stuck in this traffic all morning for the most part. Again, it is that all 4 streets of this cross street and it doesnt seem to really be letting up at all. And then once you get over to the 80 bridge, more gridlock that way completely. So all those all those back lights that you can but it is slowly Getting Better than what it was. I would say within the last hour, but its still definitely a lot of traffic. So if youre heading this way, i would try to find an alternate route. Im sure will have all of those for you. But thats what it is looking like right now this by 80, 80 and santa clara, 92. I like boy was brake lights. Tell the story. Yeah, theyre out there that i dont know if theyre able to pull up the map that i have on my screen. The one. That showing you the traffic fall out all over the place. Not this one, but its map showing all the red where talking about mission boulevard. If you are going to be taken that this morning, were seeing major issues along 8. 80, and mission boulevard. So the fallout is pretty farreaching there. This is that the map right here on your screen. So this is where the first accident took place right here. Just east of the toll plaza. And you can see were backed up along to 38. Were backed up along mission boulevard. So whatever 8 80s, busy folks hop on mission boulevard to take that all the way down. And you can see were seeing traffic delays there as well. Lot of people tried to hop on the dunbar bridge, but because of that, were also seeing major delays. So if you can put off and avoid traveling, if youve got to go across towards the peninsula, you might even want to head up and take the bay bridge this morning. Travel into the city, although we are seeing delays there as well. So were going to continue to follow this as the morning goes on. But again, i2 westbound just east of the toll plaza. Its where that all started. Okay. So well keep track of that. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the morning. Weve got john also standing by in the Weather Center right now to start the hour with a check of the forecast where we had some showers. Overnight, john . Things are cleared up in the skies right now because it certainly is not that way on the roads. What a morning for your commute. Things out there are really just at a crawl for so much of the bay area. Maybe a good day to colleges to work from home. Of sunshine out there for the moment. Rainfall is pretty concentrated out near the oregon border. It has been a strong start to october for northern california. Neighbors up there. Well, the bay area did see some sprinkles last night. Were definitely clearing things up over the next several hours this afternoon into evening. Well see a resurgence again. And we will see some light showers making return. Right now. Its upper 50s to low 60s for most areas. Definitely a cool start. Get those layers on. It feels like fall today all across the region 60s to low 70s that are very warm us for daytime highs today. Hes a 10 time mlb allstar 1974, national league, most valuable player in the 1981 world series champion. He is a republican running in california for a seat that has been held by republicans since 1992. He joins an already crowded race featuring major democratic candidates. Congress members, adam schiff of burbank, katie porter of irvine and barbara lee of oakland. Happening tonight, the snow glen school board will meet to discuss repealing the ban on display that pride flag at school. Yeah, its been heated topic as of late kron fours will tran following the story for us live from saint. Will. Its a tiny school, but it has been making a lot of noise as far as controversy over the past month. You can see parents and administrators showing up. Thats an old when school this morning and you can see the flags right behind me. James reyna, ever since september 12, they were no longer allowed to fly any other flag other than the United States flag. And californias flag. This despite for years being allowed, especially during pride month of june to fly the pride flag. But then on september, 12th by a vote of 2 to one Board Members voted, they cannot do that saying its special interest and that is why you only see those 2 flags this morning. Well, one of the Board Members, the one that voted against the ban reintroduced or i should say, introduced a resolution to try to repeal that ban and that will be tackled at 05 30am, tonight as far as the initial topic, the initial issue it got so hot that the Alameda County Sheriffs Department they sent in their deputies to remove people from a public hearing. So the Board Members could ultimately vote. And then the next day the deputies were right back here just to make sure that it did not get out of control. There have been just a lot of opinions on both sides of this. Some people have no problems with just 2 flags. Others are saying it is an infringement on freedom of speech. Take a look at your screen. This is what one group said and they did tell me they they will be there tonight when the board meets. They did send this to us. They said that the glen school board has lost their way. Their objective is unmistakable. They aim to reduce support for lgbtq students. Staff and families. We will be at the meeting and we will let you know exactly what happens. This got so contentious. So heated guys that a week after i talked to the superintendent here at the school. She is against the ban, but she wanted to carry out whatever the Board Members said. And that is why you dont see the pride flag flying here. Well, she did speak out against the ban and all of a sudden one week later, coincidence or not, you be the judge. All of a sudden her job was under performance review. The Board Members did come out and say that they are supporting the superintendent and the Staff Members here. But again, for school with about 200 kids. The school makes a lot of noise as far as a heated topics, including the flags. We will get reaction from the parents. James, as you can clearly see, they are showing up right now. Back to you. Thank you. Will. Police in San Franciscos shot and killed a man who crashed into the Chinese Council and building. The driver crashed into that building located off of laguna street and geary boulevard 3. 30, yesterday afternoon. Well, the Police Arrived on scene and we dont have the specifics on what happened inside the consulate. Sept. A Police Officer shot the driver. Driver wasnt taken to the hospital where they later died. So was this a police will hold a town hall within the next 10 days. More information on what happened inside the council. It. All right. Still ahead on the kron, morning news and east bay city is taking a new approach when it response to Behavioral Health calls. Why police will no longer be first on the scene. And to our north, were still looking at widespread rainfall up near the oregon border. Things quieting down for the bay itself. But we are going to see showers making or surgeons later on today. Late all right. We are back at 8. 14 again, keeping you updated on the big traffic problems that are out there. All right. Yeah, weve been talking about the mateo bridge. For most of the morning, lets go and get a look at things there. If you are traveling this morning, westbound 92 just east of the toll plaza. Thats where that accident all originated. Currently, what we have for you now, one northbound lane is blocked. 2 lanes are open right now. And this all started from an accident that happened about an hour ago. Now, 3 vehicles were involved in that 2 vehicles ending up in a ditch. Not just. Santa fe just said all lanes are open. All right. Well, weve got some breaking news there. Chp reporting now that all lanes are now open on the san mateo bridge just a little back story of whats going on here. So about an hour ago, we told you we had an accident westbound 92 just east of the toll plaza and they shut down all lanes of the westbound bridge or the westbound side of the bridge for, id say maybe about 50 minutes. And so the backup continue to spread across adjacent highways. Now youre hearing that all lanes are open. The let me show you right now in real time. Whats going on out there . So you can see 8. 80, just how slow things are with the red on the map. Lot of people tried to take of mission boulevard said of 8. 80, this morning and youre seeing the delays as a result of that dumbarton bridge would be your second option when theres an issue on the 7 tail ridge. However, you can see drive times going up on the dumbarton bridge because of that to drive times right now, about 30 minutes on the dunbar 88 in menlo park and about 30 along our san mateo bridge. So good news is all lanes are currently open on the san mateo bridge. If you are trying to take that, just remember, youve got a way to all of the issues. Lets jump over to our Richmond Center fell bridge. Well, we still have crews cleaning up an overnight incident. This is the richest nfl ridge. Now, 3 westbound lanes are currently back open after an overnight fatal big rig crashed right into the toll plaza. Actual, you know, that big rig caught on fire and also the toll plaza that ran into also ignite it. So crews have been on scene for most of the morning trying to clear up all of that debris. They probably spread fire retardant down. So theyve been clearing that up. You can still see crews working there this morning. Yesterday we were completely quiet. A lot of people off for the holiday, but many people are traveling this morning. So if you are going to take in the bay bridge about 24 minutes to head into the city this morning. If you just are tuning in, san mateo bridge, all is currently back open. James probably the to have all these traffic incident. Has we have the Early Morning drizzle out there . No kidding. Making the roadways a little as you head out this morning. But it looks like the sun is coming out. John. Has more on our forecast. I guess were not completely out of the woods just yet number. I got at least thing is clear in because it certainly has not been your roads. I know it has been a rough morning commute out there for so many people. They havent decided yet to maybe call it a work from home day. If you have that option, it is a good day for it. Also because we do have some sprinkles later on today. Even those skies are clearing right now. We will see the return of some light rainfall into the Late Afternoon and evening right in the middle of your evening commute, Half Moon Bay looks great. Got a couple of you out there making the walk right along the beach right there under some mostly cloudy skies. Still look at all this rainfall to our north and north coast getting such a healthy dose of rainfall for the start of october. Well, were not doing too bad here locally either. We saw some light sprinkles last night enough to get roadways wet for your morning commute, some midday clearing and then its going to be right back to the clouds tonight, 1, 2 punch of 2 cold fronts swinging through yesterday. Now today rain to our north. A few showers lingering our direction. You can see some of that lingering low cloud cover this morning. Nice clearing midday and then return of clouds into the afternoon. Initially some showers returning to the north coast and then are right back to the bay area. 07 00pm right here. Nevado pacifica, San Francisco, eventually oakland, then the south bay. After that getting in the mix with some brief showers pushing through staying light to moderate at the not a lot going on just enough to get roadways wet again this evening. After that, we have a dry trend from wednesday thursday into friday. Nice into the with lots of sunshine up about as for rainfall totals the next 24 hours, eureka could see another 3rd of an inch to even half an inch of rainfall up there. Mendocino on top of what youve already seen, another quarter of an inch. Well, bay area totals will be more modest with just a few sprinkles here. And there before additional showers likely into saturday and then again into early next week. So it active pattern ahead of us october. Definitely not a dry month this year, 60s to 70s for your daytime highs across the bay area after our summer resurgence this weekend. Its right back to fall. Weve gone and today is our coolest of the forecast. So if you like that sweater, feel that nice, cool. Feel definitely want to venture out and enjoy. Hopefully not driving too much, though, because as you can see, the roads are not permissible for that. Santa rosa down to petaluma in the upper 60s. Tomorrows temperatures will be right around the same as todays, but were tapping into a lot more sunshine tomorrow. Tomorrows catch the winds tomorrow is going to be very breezy day after that thursday and friday, less windy and our warmest days with upper 70s to low 80s inland and 70s by the bay shore. Our next chances of rainfall specially for the north bay will be saturday. And then again next monday. Back to you. All right, john, thank you for that. Little man is in custody after. As the Denver Broncos take on the kansas city chiefs. We are back time now. 8. 30, hand. Weve been following some issues on the roads this morning or start the half hour with that. Yeah, we have several incidents all across our bridges this morning. First, lets start with the Richmond Center fell bridge where we actually have and Early Morning accident. So this happened overnight. Accident involving a big rig crash into the toll plaza. Unfortunately, this in in as and a fatality there. The toll plaza also catching on fire. So they had to shut lanes down there on the richmond. Sandra fell bridge this morning. Just 3 late westbound lanes are opening. You can see those 2 on the side. Those are still close as they continue to try to clean up the debris from last night. Also, the san mateo bridge is another incident weve been following this morning, accident say about an hour and a half ago. Westbound 92 just east of the toll plaza. There involving 3 vehicles. We know that 3 to 2 of those vehicles ended up in a ditch as a result of this crash and they have to completely shut down the mateo bridge, the sporting so drive times across 8. 80, that mission boulevard. Go ahead and get a look at that right now. Havent backed up as a result of that. Now we know that all lanes are open right now on the san mateo bridge. But the damage is already been done because were in the earlier part of the commute hours now the backup you see along 8. 80, there. You also see the backup along mission boulevard and a lot of people san mateo bridge was closed for almost an hour. Lot of people opted for taking the dumbarton bridge. Thats why the drive times are going up there 31 minutes traveling from a 80 to menlo park. So we also have boots on the ground there. We know that Michael Thomas has been covering this in the field, stuck in a trap. He has michael i mean, all lanes reopened only about 15 minutes ago, but as you can attest to firsthand. The ripple effects are being felt pretty far out. Yeah, good morning, everyone. Im behind the camera right now. This is right where 8, 80 kind need. Its off of santa clara street. You can see just that backup of people trying to get on the actual bridge. And like you said, a ripple effect. One big rig goes by. Youll be able to its all 4 corners. Really . Theres a backup all the way. And take a look. This is 92 are going to turn the camera all the way around. Of course, the big rig comes in, right, as were trying to show you, right. But once this a move that the way you can see there, we go all the way down, 92 well where you can see that traffic just all the way back. And thats been like that since about the 7 oclock hour. I mean, i was in downtown hayward and to move about maybe half a mile a to bbb. 35 40 minutes or so. And again, just gridlock all the way down. And this 92 right here has not loosened up at all. Its been this exact same way. For the most part. Think last michaels going. Yeah, we just lost michaels a video signal, but you can see what he was talking about that back up that still stretching for miles. As folks are trying to approach the san mateo bridge, but it is a slow go for seeing that backup extent. Quite a ways. Yeah, exactly. And if you are just tuning in this morning, the information that you need to know this morning, all lanes are currently open, but they were all shut down for nearly an hour. So the its been pretty bad along 88. And thats what he was showing us there. Mission boulevard. Also definitely a busy morning for most of our commute. If you are traveling there. So i would say if you can avoid the area all means do so. Not only the traffic has been a mess, but also the weather for the most part. Im wondering if if you were off yesterday and then rain a little bit this morning, that kind of just confused a lot of things on yeah, definitely was a wet one earlier this morning, which certainly did not help and it is. Maybe just a good morning to call it a stay home day a little closer to home, at least with so many traffic issues going on out there. This is your view from the east bay hill Still Holding on to a lot of low cloud cover. Some of us have seen some clearing others still in the midst of some misty spots, too. Rainfall continues across the north coast in just the northern tier. The state general and will drift back our direction into Late Afternoon and evening hours tonight. So well see some midday clearing here over the next several hours. And then its going to be right back to the wet stuff we go as we move into the afternoon and evening temperatures 50s and 60s. Right now. It is definitely cool. Feels fully like fall. Now after what was such a hot weekend today is actually going to be the coolest of the forecast with daytime highs really only in the upper 60s to low 70s even cooler than yesterday was now im going to be talking our chance of showers increasing Late Afternoon in your full forecast. Back to you. All right. Thank you, johnny. 33 is the time and Hayward City Council now set to hold a meeting to discuss a new safety guidelines for sidewalk vendors in the city. Neither firearm was registered to them. Well take a look at this. The white house is lit up in blue and white for israel last night. Officials at the white house say President Biden and the israeli Prime Minister spoke several times since the attacks began. State capitol closed pool in white last night as well. Earlier this evening, Governor Newsom posted on social media saying california stands with israel. Well, San Francisco business was in a town in israel visiting his family, would hamas attacked israel . Many acura tl owns man is in the mission, headed to tel aviv to help gather collect boxed foods for soldiers and families impacted by the attacks. There. He says hes going continue to help until he returns to the bay area next week saturday. He was not in a town that was attacked by hamas militants. As the conflict unfolds in the middle east, there is worry the war might affect the price of gas. You know, you had a chance to talk to experts on how the fighting in israel might drive prices up Kristin Vartan with the latest. Oil prices do fluctuate a every day. They have been trending downward. So this the spike was very much noticeable in overnight spike in crude oil. Happening after hamas launched a surprise attack on israel as uc davis is mark agger points out. This is the main input into gasoline. Neither israel nor your cars are major producers of oil. So its not like. This. This really this conflict right now is directly impacting prices. But really . This is people being worried about possible impact. Worried agger 10 in Sacramento States Hanna Gabriel say about the potential of future geopolitical conflicts. There is any potential iranian involvement, which we dont we dont know at this point as they are also another oil producer, Oil Producing countries, as as of right now are not involved. But the fear that they could be can drive prices. Egerton says this could impact an already tight crude oil market. From high demand in the organization of Petroleum Exporting countries, cutting supplies to the market. Saudi arabia. Russia, which is part of the opec plus group. And so supplies are already fairly tight. Oil prices were pretty high, which is big. Gasoline prices are pretty high. So this is just one additional piece of potential instability in the market. But how likely is that to take a toll on your gas tank in california . We have things like state taxes. California, local laws, environmental laws and fees and things like that. And those also impact the price at the pump. So the price of crude oil is only about half the price of a gallon of gas. Then theres one more factor to consider side from the humanitarian crisis. Im seeing this seasonal decline in gas prices is also very normal at this time of year. So that impact might actually dominate any any mile increase from from crude oil in sacramento well, still ahead on the kron morning news, a new Study Reveals how much more its costing you to go back to the office fulltime versus a hybrid schedule. Talk more about that. We are continue to follow the breaking news on the mateo bridge. And we have Early Morning accident should completely shut down the bridge for almost an hour. All lanes are back open. But as you see, we are slowly crawling near and adjacent highways impacted as well. Talk more about that coming up.
