But the viewing was extended until age to accommodate all of the people who are wishing to say their goodbyes. This is the scene around 08 15pm, tonight when her casket was removed. A Memorial Service for the late sen. Well be back at city hall tomorrow afternoon. Crews started setting up chairs and barricades tonight, Vice PresidentKamala Harris, governor gavin newsom and congresswoman nancy pelosi are all expected to attend tomorrow. It was originally set to be open to the public tomorrow. But due to security concerns, organizers are now saying it will only be open to 1500 invited guests. When all was said and done today, 10s of thousands of people have paid their respects to the woman who spent more than 50 years and Public Service for the longtime kron fours. Dan kerman spoke with many of them. Shortly after 8 wednesday morning. The hearse carrying california senator Dianne Feinstein arrived at San Francisco city hall. Her flagdraped casket was carried into city hall and positioned under the rotunda. The first to pay respects for family members and dignitaries among them, congresswoman nancy pelosi and her husband, paul. Were joined by feinsteins daughter katherine, but it was the people that feinstein served during more than 50 years of Public Service that were the focus of this viewing. We love her because, you know, she loved the city. People line venice avenue and waited patiently to get into city hall. To pay their respects in person after viewing the casket, visitors could sign a condolence book before leaving she needed to do something. For all people, not just one group of people and thats why i love her so much epidemic. So supported the community so much, you help obviously a person who had a lot of conviction about what the right thing to do and and trying to follow through with theres a lot of people to get into politics dont seem to make a difference 10. She truly did before threedecade careering the u. S. Senate. City hall was home to feinstein serving 9 years on the board of supervisors before becoming mayor after the assassinations of mayor George Moscone and supervisor harvey milk. Its or 2 terms as mayor that many remember most. Most impactful was how brought calm to the city after we lost her. And then she gave her whole life trying to make the city a good place for everyone. A beautiful place for everyone. And she did that. Those images stay in my mind. What a strong brave leaders she was in that moment of crisis. So was important for me to be here to recognize that as well as all the decades of service that she gave. Now, the Memorial Service for senator feinstein is scheduled for thursday afternoon. Vice president Kamala Harris and congresswoman nancy pelosi. Among those expected to attend. Now, originally, the service outside San Francisco city hall was to be open to the public. But now officials for senator feinstein are saying this is now open to only invited guests due to security concerns at San Francisco city hall. Dan kerman kron. 4 news. And now were seeing that northeasterly winds that air sinks, it approaches the coastline. Those temperatures get a little toasty out there. And in fact, they are staying warm out there right now. How about 77 degrees in San Francisco . That is hard to believe 70 in oakland. It is 73 right now in hayward, 73 in san carlos. And 72 degrees and fremont. 74 in san jose. So really feeling the effects of that warm weather already. Only a little relief along the coastline. So that being said, the National Weather service has issued hot weather advisory for tomorrow as well see those temperatures again soaring in the 80s and 90s inside the bay. Even in San Francisco, upper 80s, maybe even a couple low 90s in San Francisco. Guys, back to you. Lauren, thank you. As we get closer to the main fleet week festivities, San Francisco is starting to fill up with people excited to see the air shows and they can wear tank tops this weeks deadly week. Then they show off during the official airshows friday through sunday and this year incredibly warm weather is set to keep the skies clear. A relief for people as last year. The fog made it hard to see the air show. Got so bad the sunday show but cut short. We might have heard the planes, but we definitely did see any plans. On wednesday afternoon. People got outside to enjoy the 80 degree weather. Some walked on the embarcadero. Its very rare. So i feel like when its when its like this, you got to. Take advantage of and in north beach, people tanned at Washington Park inside outside eating at local restaurants. The great weather combined with fleet week activities has the owner of a markle. Tens of thousands of kaiser employees have wrapped up day one of whats been the Largest Health care strike in our country. There now resting up to hit the picket lines again for day 2. In santa rosa, nearly 2000 kaiser permanente. Workers, including lab techs, nurses, Er Department personnel and House Keeping workers took to the picket lines starting at 6 this morning. Santa rosa is just one of 14 bay area, kaiser locations. Workers say theyre striking to speak out about low wages, staffing shortages and a cost of living adjustment. You know, through the covid crisis, we lost a lot of employees. And weve never backfield those positions were tired. Our patients dont have quality care are good were out here fighting for patients today. Kaiser permanente issued this statement to kron 4 news. Quote, we remain committed to reaching a new agreement that continues to provide our employees with market leading wages. Elective surgeries may be put on hold and Lab Appointments may be postponed unless a deal gets reached. The strike is scheduled to continue through saturday. San Francisco School teachers are also getting ready to strike employees in the San FranciscoUnified School District say. Theyll hit the picket lines if contract negotiations do not improve. The district has been negotiating with unions which represent educators and non Teaching Staff since march. Union reps argue custodians and cafeteria workers havent had a raise in 4 years. While the ongoing payroll problem hasnt been resolved either. For every time anyone employee. Underpaid or not paid is one too many. Officials with the School District say they have offered a historic contract package for the teachers which includes a 10,000 ongoing raise for this school year. Also better pay for teachers moving forward as well as teaching assistants and non Teaching Staff almost 100 of members have voted in favor of a strike. The california Highway Patrol has agreed to pay 7 Million Dollars to settle a shooting that killed erik salgado back in 2020. The 23 yearold was shot more than a dozen times come for some and harry. Spoke with the sister. So amanda, how is she feeling about all of this after the settlement . His sister says shes grateful that theyve settled this for a lot of money, but she says no amount of money will ever bring him back. And she still struggles with that every day. Its been more than 3 years since. 23 yearold Erick Salgado was shot and killed by a chp officer back on june 6 twentytwenty his sister a jail blanco says shes been fighting for justice since that day. Ive had to change. My whole life the work that i do now very similar to my life experiences. And i support of their families who are lost their loved ones police. Police say they were chasing salgado who they say had stolen a car. He then crashed into 2 patrol cars in san leandro. Officers fired at salgado hitting him more than a dozen times. His pregnant girlfriend was also in the car at the time of the crash. She was injured and unborn baby did not survive. So god or leaves behind a 6 yearold daughter who will be financially supported through the settlement with good. Did come out of that is my niece is going to be able to, you know, be ok and you know, thats whats definitely important. In april last year, a report from then Alameda CountyDistrict AttorneyNancy Omalley found the officers were justified in using deadly force. And did not face any charges. But salgado sister says they plan to submit the case to the new da pamela price for prosecution. The important part is to continue with. The criminal charges. Amanda, thank person was killed tonight after being struck by an amtrak train in berkeley. Berkeley. Police say the person was hit around 5. 30 this evening near harrison street and the tracks as of 8 oclock. The train have remained stopped, blocking gilman street. Amtrak police are investigating that crash. The 2 baby girls who drowned at a san jose daycare on monday have been identified. Investigators say payton cobb from hollister and Lillian Hammond from san jose were both one year old. The girls were 2 of 3 children who fell into a pool at the happy, happy home daycare on fleetwood drive the 3rd child survived, according to the California Department of social services, investigators did tour that home daycare back in 2020 for a pre licensing inspection changes to the pool area were requested by the department and by 2021, the Department Gave the daycare the green light to open saying that the pool have been made inaccessible. No charges have been filed just yet. Another horse has died at golden gate fields. State Officials Say it happened during training today. This is now the 5th horse to die in just the past 2 weeks. The racetrack now is at least 13 horses that have died. There this year alone. These latest deaths happened again just within the span of a couple weeks. The racetrack plans to close for good in june of 2024. Despite little heat wave here this week, fire crews are moving ahead with their controlled burn in the north bay doing it for 3 days this week. Weve got advisories for heat for tomorrow into San Francisco in the south as well. And you can see why these temperatures really jumping all around. In fact, you see these numbers a pretty toasty just about everywhere you go. Even along the waters edge along the coastline, even inside the bay, 90 in berkeley tomorrow.
