And we were this time yesterday, even San Francisco trailing by 3 degrees. Our low pressure system is still camping out our backyard here. Thousands of runners are participating in this years event 70 justice. Live for us now at oracle park with more. And good morning to you. Tiffany looks like youve got a fan and or participant already lined yes, we actually have a levy in legacy pap is joining us right now. So shes participating. In the 5. 10 k race today and shes taking the time to speak with us right to talk more about your participation and a few more things as well as has your morning going. Its good. Grew up in the bay area and i flew in last night from la and i got to have greek food with my dad who still lives here and hes running the race so i might run with him, which is very means a lot to me because my first race ever was his. It was a 5 k when he ran his first marathon. So thats cool. But this is like an iconic grace that you i mean, you know, this race, you kind of, you know, youre from here in race has been around for 14 years. Yeah, yeah. I mean, i think its really cool. When theres like i im like a multifaceted person and i love the it feels like a very interdisciplinary. Like race to have the giant race and these kind of colliding in this way. And obviously i grew up going to this park. Im a season ticket. Alderson 1,000th grader. My dad is. And so it means a lot to me and also the girls on the run involvement is really, really cool. There are cer in foundations and organizations taking part this year. Girls on the run. Another one really focusing on women Athletics Mental Health as well. Yes, exactly. And ive seen this program. You know, in all in many, many states and many, many iterations. And its always maintained its integrity of focusing on the girls and their development first. And i think that that Word Development is a word we dont champion enough like a lot of people. You know, they want performance. They other words. But when girls are that age, they really like puberty is a superpower. And i think that that Program Champions a well rounded development of a young so they can play sports forever. You know, i think thats kind of part of your message as well. You have your book with just to talk about your message and your new. I feel like im at the book like i wrote an adult gravy with a foreword by maya rudolph after the olympics, i had a post. Olympic depression and Mental Health is like a. Thing that runs in my family. I grew up with just my dad and lost my mom. Really young to Mental Health stuff. So this is the Young Readers adaptation for more 9 14 yearolds. But its its its its own book and my a hocker the forward and im really proud of it because i think when i was that age, i would have loved to have. A little more instruction about not what to do, but how to see objective situations because i think we cant always imitate what everyone elses life exactly is. But we can learn how they think so. Thats thats the book. And im very proud of and it came out a week ago. Congratulation, thank you. I want ask you, how do you feel as you known as olympian with this organization, you know, and breaking when athletes been that kind of aspect of i think its incredible. And we have an allstar team today that kind of coming out as i would say, like mentors be here with i feel really fairy godmothers. But what is really compelling is the group that brought us here. Really let us kind of they didnt just come in like cherry pick. People like weve got to collaborate on how this came together. And so i think giving us not only ability to be here to platform, but also a voice in how this all happens is really meaningful. I also just him aware that this organization cares about what its doing beyond race day. And i think that some races will come go. But this this race is embedded in a tradition that extends beyond race day as well. Lexi ross and thank you for making time to chat. Really appreciate you. Thank you. The race begins at 9 oclock this morning. Were going to be all morning long to bring you more information back to you city of stephanie. Looks like a cold one out there in San Francisco day. Its nice, though, to have this ground fog, you know, keep those temperatures down a little bit there. But yes, its more ground fog scenario were seeing today. Then we had from yesterday and were seeing than other areas of the bay, for example, shoreline covering up the scenery a little bit here now this will mix out. Well see a good deal. Sunshine still today, but we got to share it with the cloud. So that scenario was still pretty much in place. Lot of 60s in the east bay. 65 san jose. Up to the north bay. Weve got those 50s going on. 59 San Francisco. 57, meanwhile, 4 Half Moon Bay. So this low is pretty much in the backyard supplying rain showers, thunderstorms up to around tahoe were just talking about that. So than other thing to consider is today is going to be a day of more of those widespread Thunder Showers. Good news is stay up there for the day because monday thats going to turned off for everybody going for. Were going to dry out a lot more sunshine tomorrow. But those temperatures up a little bit future cast for you can actually even see that again today becoming quite active up there around tahoe with those Thunder Showers, things start to improve here in the bay area will be turning more to a mostly clear note. However, the overnight fog does make its appearance again tomorrow morning. Coastal drizzle that typical drill. However, as you can see already by 11 00am, things start to clear out and we go into a mostly sunny mode. Things also dry up in the mountains to, as you can see for the afternoons here, monday looks pretty good. Maybe a couple stray clouds. All to make note of. All right. Heres the game we got today. Variable clouds got to say that again, mild temperatures with 70s covering the bay near 80 inland. And were talking upper 70s that that now by tomorrow were turning mostly sunny and nice. Those inland highs will start to crack through the lower 80s 70s covered the bay. But later on this week, were in a venture into the 90s. And up by thursday friday zone. We should be getting to the 90s department and maybe even the middle 90s into next weekend. As a reminder in many ways, were still in summer. We havent reached that equinox thing and we know that heat spikes can strike us even in september. So its getting going to be a warm next weekend compared to what were dealing with here. 69 San Francisco open. 71. 75 covers san jose and the big boards. Still the color is a shun is more like those falllike colors. We have the 70s off to the east bay and even up to the north bay to 69 San Francisco. Next couple of days, though, quick runup here, middle 80s. It looks like already by tuesday and were going continue to build on that with around 90 or so. It looks like as we finish the week. And you know, mike, the mid 90s next weekend. As you know, we those heat spike sometimes even in september. Its still kind of still summer, though, as a reminder, it really is just fascinating how bay area weather we just saw that live shot. Just nowhere shrouded in fog downtown San Francisco. And yet here we are headed you know, that low is really sweet that we had this weekend because i not use the sometimes in the summer months that kind of cleans us out a little bit. So we should be sunny cooler. But thats how a bit more moisture which to deal with on that front. But at least a Couple School for for a while. I Love Learning the Science Behind all right. If your labor day plans involve heading to the beach, heres a look at what you can expect when it comes to parking. Well, you can see the line of cars near near beach, the golden gate, National Recreation area says that many parking lots reached capacity on saturday. Theyre asking people to visit park parts of the park, less likely to be congested or to consider arriving to the beach later in the afternoon. Thats what officials say. All right, if youre well, lets take a live look now at walnut creek. Now its looking a bit overcast out there, perhaps a little foggy. Im not as many cars on the road was at this hour right now. Those 7. 45 this sunday morning. Dave, what else should we know . Well, i guess people are at their locations that they want to be for the Holiday Weekend. Good morning, stephanie. Good morning, everybody. By the way, sfo know does lay is happening out there. We do see a little bank of fog. You can see off towards the distance, but same scenario is yesterday. You know, the people out there you saw from the store at the Golden Gate Park. Well, poppy, people taking pictures of the cumulus clouds that we had from yesterday. Im sure that said, heres whats going on in tahoe today. As i mentioned earlier today, youre going to see some of those scattered Thunder Showers. Pretty numerous this afternoon. But tomorrow its all gone. Its back to sunshine. 68, good day there. You probably wont want to leave because its lower 70s going into tuesday into wednesday. Nice weather as we go forward really drying out there. So we got this low still in our backyard here. Kind of cut off in the major source moisture. Although you can see the effects being felt off towards the rockies and as a result will continue to see this cloud cover. And even though we open up, it will just fill back up again later on with some again. Some scattered clouds through the day today. So variable clouds, weve got to go with for today. Now, now this low, which us a nice little break from the heat. We had midweek last week. It doesnt look like its total influence is waning here. Lets go all the way up to about thursday and we see the high towards our south of little heat bubble there to keep an eye on not really impacting us by thursday as another weak system passes us, thats going to maybe some cloud cover. But we do see a little warming trend heading into next weekend. However, although from this influence, we dont see a big pop happening just yet. But looks like were losing our cooling effects from this low. So it could be kind of a cool week and balance as the still kind of summer in many ways. Tuesday, some scattered clouds want to make note about wednesday, thursday, friday, you can see little spring, some cloud cover towards our south. But on balance, heading into the weekend looks to be mostly sunny and mostly traffic goes up in above us. Thats typical of seeing maybe another heat spike coming our way. But the numbers seem to be pretty tame by that standard thus far will soon get a little closer now, again, next week is going to be much warmer than this one. 69 San Francisco, weve got to 60s covering the coast. 72 for burlingame to the south u. S. To about 76 for foster city and palo alto redwood city, 70 from Mountain View and in the south bay, still only mid 70s. 76 going on for morgan hill, east bay shoreline to the south, lower 70s tri valley. Still hang on on the 70s territory today. 79 walnut creek, 78 for concord. Last time we get to see the 70s there for a little while. 66 for berkeley, 66, a little bit of that onshore wind helping out. 76 fairfield, 71 for napa. And 75 santa rosa. So we start to warm up. As you can see, we head into friday into saturday. We have to work some lower 90s into this mix a little bit by next weekend, stephanie. So we could potentially get the middle 90s, but it does not look like triple digits and all that kind of crazy you know this. He bumps and spikes we sometimes get. But a reminder were still in many ways kind of still in summer. Okay, maybe the middle logic fall, but it still feels like summer. Ok . Very interesting. Thank you so much, david. All right. Not too much traffic out there at 9. 13, this beautiful sunday morning and looking a little bit gray out there for the drivers. Dave, what do you track . Its a little spooky looking isnt done good morning, stephanie. Good morning, everybody. We see the same kind of thing going on in Half Moon Bay coupled with. That morning marine layer in the lower lying fog. And so for that will take care of that as we get to the later afternoon over the cloud cover will be a little bit of an issue all day today. 60s covering the east bay up to the north bay. Finally joining them. We see 64 from 61, San Francisco, even Half Moon Bay, one of the few holdouts at 59 66, san jose. So the rain continues picking up around tahoe for today in this afternoon. And daytime heating will just animate this even more in our own backyard. We have some leftover cloud cover, but it looks like its trying to already lift a bit here. Once we add the mixing process of the atmosphere. On top of this, we might get some better clearing in the afternoon hours to hand it over to future cast for it keeps the quite busy up there in the mountains. By contrast, it looks like were starting to open up as we get to the afternoon hours. So again, well say it is variable clouds, varying terms of the day during an terms of location, kind of cover, everybody. All in one scoop. Here comes the marine layer yet again tomorrow morning. It spills into the Sacramento Valley nicely but mixes out as we approach the noon hour and things are quiet up there around ta one case. Youre headed up there. So was some rain today, but things will be improving as we head into the holiday tomorrow, even late as tuesday. Here comes that marine layer again and sunday into the afternoon. So for today, its variable clouds. We talked about mild got 70s covering the east bay shoreline near 80 inland. Some means a lot of upper 70s. Then tomorrow we find get into the lower 80s, the base to hold on to some 70s. Lots of sunshine for you as it will be all week long. And we start to warm up each day. Not a whole lot. It will be just kind of inching it by day by day and starting hit the octane a little bit by thursday, friday and saturday. The models kind of start to decouple as we head into the weekend have to keep an eye on that. But it does look like a very clear it will be hotter than this weekend has been 69 San Francisco with variable clouds. A 71 for oakland for the as ball game today this afternoon. Expect temps around 70 or so. 75 for san jose. There you have it. A lot of upper 70s east of the east bay hills. You dont see that too often. And 70s going up there in the north bay. 69, San Francisco. 75 san jose next couple of days here lined up for you. There you see the trend through the 80s. But again, were going to revisit those 90s. It looks like by thursday, friday, by next weekend could be talking about middle 90s with all of that, too. How do you feel you feel, ok, hows your Mental Health . And all karen owoc is yes, thats right. We have here and here and september is self care awareness month. A time to remind ourselves. That taking care of our bodies is essential. Our Health Expert karen owoc joins us today to teach us how we can improve our brain heart and Overall Health with just one simple exercise, too. Quite a tease there, karen. Yeah, haha to fill us so im not going to have you do. Squats are balancing an one. Okay . Its really simple. All right. Its all do with breathing, ok . Whats called the 4, 7, 8 breathing technique for and what it does is stimulates the vagus nerve, which explain that. Im going to show you had to do it for all right. Everyone can do it. Its and once explained what it does, everyone is going to do it. All right. It us through it. So what youre going to do is first exhale out all your air through your mouth. Okay. Hail through your for 4 counts. Okay. One 2, 3, 4 and then hold your breath for 7 counts. Thats one 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and then exhale out for 8, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and then you repeat that 3 more time. So you do a round of 4 of those, you dont want to do it more than 4 times, especially at the beginning because youre slowing respiration if youre not used to it, ok, so you can do that if you practice at for a month then you could go to up to 8. Interesting, ok, got it. So the whole idea is to slow and stimulate the vagus nerve. So. So what youre doing is youre its going to help you relax. That sounds very nice. Yeah. Haha. We need more of that. So where exactly is the vagus nerve for the vagus . Nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the human body and it starts here at the brain and it has extensive distribution because it has lots of of branches. So it starts here at the brain stem. It goes down through the heart belongs to the sta. Make the digestive system, the colon and then down to the pelvic so it has extensive, you know, affect ok, so it when it stimulate certain organs, its going to help relax. Because whats going to happen is youre going to release whats called acetylcholine. And that when we do the lafayette exercise. Exactly. And thats a, you know, a transmitter. You i call it the your internal tranquil tied to the vagus nerve. So what really interesting is that some researchers at the university of amsterdam, they did a study with Rheumatoid Arthritis patients and they they studied them for 3 months they actually inserted a stimulator that stimulating the vagus i talked to had to do it naturally they were doing it with the stimulator. Wow. And what happened was theyre inflammation levels went down and their symptoms of pain and and rigidity went down. So really help them improve. So the implications is that this can help people with better suffering from inflammatory diseases, alzheimers and parkinsons, heart disease, diabetes. All those chronic inflammatory diseases. So its huge. So the best. So the easiest way to stimulate the vagus nerve naturally is to do the breathing exercise that you mention. Again, walk us through the pattern. So its 4, 7, 8, 4, inhale for for hold for 7 and exhale for 8. And in the study, they did 4 times a day so you could do it anywhere from 2 to the more you do it, the better you. Theres no limit on how many times a day you can do it. Its just that you want to keep it to the fore until you can work your way up to doing a cycle of 8 got im okay. It was its very effective. You can do were watching at home could probably follow along. Yes, yes, its something that everyone can do. If its a its a very effective self care routine that i think everyone incorporate. Yes. And being felt so good. So rely doing that for over the course of the 3 months. And in our last 60 seconds here, can you walk us through. I mean, are there other ways to naturally stimulate the vagus nerve or other just general relaxation techniques that we can incorporate easily into our lives. So with this breathing exercise, un first want to make sure that youre if you are sitting, you can do it anywhere. You could be doing sitting. You dont have to. You could open your eyes closure. I so you can do it anywhere. But you want to make sure that youre sitting. Well, we talked about this before the rounded last well, it when around it like that. You cant get that breath. And thats what its all about. So. You know, your belly button into spine, open up your shoulders and take a nice deep breath wear loose clothing so that you you can move. Well. And and just remember that you have to take care of yourself. You know, if youre if your cup is empty, theres no way you could help someone else. Yes, very important. Reminder there from karen owoc, our inhouse Health Experts. Thank you so much for joining us. Youre very welcome. Always lovely to see you. Think theyre all see you. Think theyre all right. Sometimes when its 90 something and you get to say San Francisco and oakland and the numbers are in the 70s. So the shock will be so great. Westsouthwest winds at about 10 speaking the winds onshore. Kind of take the a singsong pattern. We always talk about little pops happened this afternoon, but a more pronounced one tomorrow. Just a little bit one, you know, to get that the window one of the late afternoon, early evening hours. Dont forget, were going to have this grady gradation occurring here. This gradient because of heating inland, cooler off towards the bay and the coast that could become more apparent by the time we get towards the latter portion of the week and that will drive our afternoon or evening winds. Now, the Bigger Picture as we take a look way upstairs. We want to watch this heat dome. Its far away from home. Starts building a little bit towards the end of the week in some of the influence will be felt here by next week. And this is thursday. We have the interruption of some scattered clouds, but as youll notice, a subtle dome stays towards our south and thats going help with the thumb on the scale to push those temperatures upward. We help secure the site for them at the that, you know, we were told what were probably going expect for the rest of the day. But the meantime, traveling back before we able to see the devastation that would that occurred a how did seeing the extent of the destruction effect . Affect us personally . Well, i think it was a really heartbreaking. Im sure everyones been to and theyve seen the the country better statement was and to see the devastation around heartbreaking. And was more heartbreaking was actually seen the people there and what theyre going and what was the day to day like for you guys being on the ground there . Was 7 oclock in the morning. So he strong ties. Another member of our group, murphy. He actually worked for the Maui Fire Department for about 5, 6, years. So going back to their, you know it. There for families who were displaced. You like we of the world behind kindly combination for us. But you can see that, you know, lother its task, their families were staying there because they have nowhere else to stay. It is such a heartbreaking what is the call to action for members of the public if theyd like to help . One thing at this everything very they they dont have directives as far people. But im sure that island itself would love to have number one have travelers again to help support the but i think if they the numbers and they have some numbers. You can contact that they can probably use volunteers. And i not sure they are going to continue Gateway Center they keep they there. We were told, leaving. They were planning to move again to find another route other donations more support, i think thats all we can do at this point. And we understand that youre also making another trip back. Yes, with that in planning that hopefully in about a month or planning make the sending a Second Mission weve got we are in contact the people who we work with at the line of Gateway Center and i know theyre relocating to a smaller venue. Hopefully we could. The the sister in the in our next mission. Also in the meantime, what trying to some fundraising get some donation to help. The people there so that we could also have more money to should, too. People so if you watching this know they want to make some donations. They reach out to your organization or we have one call asian fire fighters, charitable. Dot com. Theres a donation. When, though there, where they want, tony, how much they want. And but comments that does for the line when we make sure that money is used properly. For the people liner. And theres another site called maui, far store dot com. That is the modifier fire site because people dont know this. But 17 firefighters from the Maui Fire Department. Lost their homes. Yeah. And so we you know, we we made contact with them and they have they were they welcomed like family members raft it. So we want to really help them and people line amount.
