Look like the Basketball Court to try to break things up. But not before 2 students were stabbed. Were hearing one was stabbed in the arm, the other in the back non lifethreatening injuries. It was to the point where they had to lock down the campus just to make sure that the kids remained inside the classrooms or wherever they were for their safety. San jose Police Department. And if youre interested, talk to your doctor see if its a good idea for you. 8. 11 right now and sunday is psychedelic rock day in San Francisco. The flaming lips close out the summer cern grove Concert Series and to celebrate the city is actually declaring sunday flaming lips day. Otherwise known as if some fire ahead of the band is originally from oklahoma. And they say theyre grateful to be part of San Franciscos electric fabric. The flaming licks, lips show is in stern grove and its free. But theres no tickets you had to have booked ahead of time stern grove, you know, in the past, they do give a small bit of tickets out. So maybe you look out if they still have they of . The show is sunday. At 1 oclock. My sisters going. Shes got the outfit picked out. So shes got it already the show and actually picking up that outfit. And we were just talking about the weather because shes like, ok, stern little foggy feels cold, but you have all these people. So its cold. She was buying. What do you think . Its stern grove. Youre are you sitting standing for senator . I actually never been for all. Well, theres not much room. Moving your good. Yeah. Said, yeah. You might want all right. Up at lake tahoe, you dont need the extra their love that shot. Of you know, i dont usually show it unless its winter. Yeah, i miss visited the summer yet. Might be why. But we are looking at a nice view of lake tahoe this morning from diamond peak. You can see just how green everything is up there and how nice and sunny it is this morning. If youre planning a weekend up in the sierra, its going to be very nice. But gradually increasingly cloudy, come sunday and then monday, it once that weve got some rainfall up there. More than just a little bit of rainfall, especially for Southern California tahoe, the sierra and then Southern California are gunna be getting in the mix with the remnants of what weve got down here. Hurricane hilary, which is right now a category 4 storm churning off the west coast of mexico. If you look at how well formed this storm is and especially how well formed that eye wall is, that is a sign of just how strong the storm is rapidly intensifying overnight last night. Now a category 4 storm. Winds in excess of 145 miles per hour. It is set to make landfall this weekend up on the Baja California peninsula and eventually crossing the mexican california border as we move into early next week as this happens, if it maintains Tropical Storm status as it does so it will be the first Tropical Storm to make landfall in california since 1939. So this is very, very uncommon now, depending on the storms track, say it goes a little bit further westward. Were going to see a lot of storm surge as well as potential flooding in la down to san diego. If it does go a little further inland, it will be the deserts that really see the bulk of that precipitation. Either way. We are going to see a very wet start to next week for Southern California, especially and up into the sierra, too. Notice the bay area really getting in the mix quite as much though, as for rainfall forecast, we stay dry this weekend early on. But as we move into early next week, spots like la san diego over 3 inches of rainfall expected palm springs could see 5 inches of rainfall and that would result and that potential of flash flooding out there just east of the mountains, areas like death valley only usually see it. Max, 2 inches of rain in an entire year. So this will potentially double the amount of rainfall that death valley typically sees in a years span. Now for the bay area, not a lot going on. We could see an isolated thunderstorm brief shower, but were really not getting in the mix as far as the remnants of that storm goes. So were a lot smoother sailing today is just going to be a cooler one with 60s and 70s at the coast. 70s and 80s for the bayshore. Are very warmest inland today only getting into the upper 80s spots like livermore, as well as antioch in vacaville, shy of 90 at 89 degrees. So nobodys getting up to 90 oakland allay in the mid 70s. Well, looking at some 80s from santa rosa down through fell. A look ahead shows temperatures that will be returning to the 90s tomorrow, but not getting too terribly hot. At least we will see our best chance of any sort of shower activity on monday drying out after that. As for your road so far, so good out there. And at this point, i dont think weve got to commute at all across the bay bridge. It has been such a light morning. You had not a single back up through the tolls. Thats where were at on the mateo bridge. Things are rolling along just fine. The Richmond Center fell 8 minutes. And finally, the golden gate just under those gray skies. But nothing slowing you down. Darya. James, thanks a lot of days, 16 and lets get back to the news. Another big story that were following is the fbi raid that led to arrests of multiple Police Officers from antioch and pittsburgh have major story. These arrests were the result of an investigation that started as a narrow probe. But then. Ballooned in ended up uncovering alleged unethical and criminal behavior. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson takes a deep dive. And one of 4 of the indictments are disturbing and racist. Text messages. These arrests brought fbi agents to multiple states, an effort to wrest 10 officers after 2 years of investigating officers in the antioch and pittsburgh Police Departments, the u. S. Attorney for the Northern District of california announced indictments thursday afternoon. 10 officers have been charged. 9 of them are sworn officers and one is a Community Officer 6 with Antioch Police and 4 with pittsburgh police. It took 100 fbi agents to successfully arrest officers in different states, including california, texas and hawaii. These are the 4 indictments announced one being a College Fraud indictment alleging 6 officers claimed they earn College Credits increasing their pay. But officials allege they hired people to attend those classes for them. Second is a steroid distribution charge for 2 officers and an obstruction indictment accusing one officer of interfering with a wiretap investigation. Lastly, a 29 page. Civil rights indictment which has to do with Text Messages between 3 officers. It includes tax change, bragging about Excessive Force using a canine on suspects and allegedly targeting suspects based on race. The fbi and u. S. District attorney is mel ramsey says they are now focus on being able to prove their case against the officers and to make sure justice is served and precedent is set. Collectively, these 4 indictments described group of officers who acted as though they were above the law. The operations today make clear that no one is above the law. The fbi and our partners absolutely committed to protecting the civil rights of members of our communities. 8 officers have made their initial Court Appearance is already. 2 others arrested elsewhere still need to be brought back to oakland for future court proceedings. 2 officers are facing multiple charges and if convicted, that could put them behind bars for over 3 decades. The fbi confirmed with us that this investigation is very much ongoing. Im sara stinson reporting back to you. Thank you, sarah. What we did speak with bay area, civil rights Attorney John Burris about these arrests. He represents 15 plaintiffs who have suits against the antioch Police Department. Hes got another 150 others that hes considering. He said its about time that these champ charges were brought. He believes they validate. The concerns of people have complained about the department for years. Burr says this is the first step now and regaining control. They can begin the changing of the culture, the culture that exists within the Police Department here with one of total disrespect racism practicing physical brutality and really out of control no real constraints on these offices. So there wasnt accountability. So we hope this is the first step to our weekend in cannes bill to control the department. Burris also added that the indictments indicate to him that the antioch Police Department needs federal oversight like the independent monitor thats overlooking the oakland Police Department. 2 of his current lawsuits against Antioch Police involved 5 of the officers that were indicted as of now he doesnt represent anybody who suit against the pittsburgh Police Department. Its 8. 20 and san jose mayor matt mahan is joining us. And heres what crews had to say. Quote, our primary concern is the writer and their welfare. And we have reached out to offer support. Were also deeply mindful of the well being of the First Responders and any individuals affected by this incident. And the company says its also investigating well, this recent car crash happened as the San Francisco City Attorney is pushing to pause the expansion of driverless Taxi Services like cruz. And waymo throughout the city. The motion was filed just days after the California Public Utilities Commission approved allowing those companies to charge for rides. 24 7. Enjoy some of the sunshine will tap into more and more this morning. Were still mostly cloudy above the bayshore anyways. But skies are gradually clearing out now. Obviously what everyones been talking about, what we still have hundreds of miles to our south. And that is hurricane hilary, which is right now centered off the west coast of mexico. Its a very strong category 4 storm strengthening rapidly overnight. You can see that very well defined eye wall of the storm. This a hurricane will make its way further to the north, eventually making landfall this weekend on the Baja California peninsula and then work its way on up into Southern California. Now, as this happens, we could see a pretty big impact for Southern California. Neighbors involving the potential of flash flooding into early next week. This storm wont just pack a punch with its winds, but most notably just how much rainfall will be falling from la san diego into those southern deserts over a very short period of time. Look at our rainfall projections as we do work into early next week. Spots like death valley that usually only see at most 2 inches of rainfall per year. Well see double that in just a matter of a couple of days. Palm springs could also see that risk of flash flooding upwards of 4 to 5 inches of rainfall be expected. Compare that with what weve got back here at home locally. And were definitely not going to be seeing the brunt of the system. In fact, just a slight chance of a brief shower for the bay area into early next week. So our forecast could be much different 60s 70s for sf today, 60s at the coastline. A nice mild day for a coastal areas. While a break from those 90s, everywhere else at are very warm us today. Were only reaching the upper 80s san jose. 87 livermore, antioch vacaville at 89 are very warmest spots. While hayward san leandro up to berkeley, its all 70s for you. Beautiful day up in napa. Allay on over towards sonoma and marin counties with 70s to barely making the low 80s. As for tomorrow and sunday, we will see a few low 90s back in the forecast making today, the coolest of the weekend monday of next week will be our best chance of any sort of precipitation as remnants of hillary move across the region tuesday, wednesday and thursday, skies will clear out and temps will warm back up. As for your roads. Still looking great out there with a bridge has been smooth sailing all morning. Absolutely. Nothing slowing you down. A mateo bridge, bundling over busier. Once if youre heading eastbound, it does look like we have a stalled vehicle. But that really hasnt been Holding Things up too much. Richmond center fell bridge at 8 minutes to make are crossing the golden gate, getting a little brighter as that cloud cover lifts in burns off darya. James, thank you, john. 8. 49. It is a video of a mob of shoplifters inside a Los Angeles Nordstrom that has been seen around the world. A flash mob of individuals ransacked a department store. Took more than 300,000 dollars of merchandise. Now the california Highway Patrol is wrapping up its effort to disrupt retail statewide with the help of additional funding for their organized Retail Task Force. Also, please announce that the governor has expanded to the local Law Enforcement agencies werent astounding. 85 million dollars. To help the local agencies investigate and deter and disrupt retail theft crimes from occurring scenes like these may call into question whether or not the Retail Task Force is making a difference. Officials at the california Highway Patrol provided the stats showing the recovery of over 300,000 assets and over 1200 arrest. I was actually throw to see whats going on with the you know, cri california retailers. We introduced the original bell. To establish the organized Retail Crime Task force is back in 2018. The president of the california retailers association, Rachel Michelin applaud governor gavin newsom and state legislators for getting behind the Retail Task Force. She says the next step for lawmakers is to adjust the felony threshold for serial shoplifters. And the fact that in california we still dont have the ability to go after repeat offenders and we we are not allowed to aggregate up to that 950 mark. And so part of i think what were seeing as well is people who took advantage of that and they just continue to push the envelope, you know, to retailers is important that our employees are safe. Customers are safe. Has it made kron . 4 its a 52 and new this morning, some in the Auto Industry are nearing the end of their current contracts.
