Department of justice step in and investigate the racist Text Messages that have played. The antioch Police Department has become a big issue. Kron fours dan kerman has the full story. The discovery that members of the Antioch Police force were sending racist Text Messages to each other. Not only created a scandal led to investigations by the Contra Costa County district attorneys office, the fbi and californias attorney general, not just in to the tax but additional allegations. Individuals have complained to us about the use of excessive force. Arrests. Asking on the screens taking confessions that they had not given taking them money when they should. Now, bay area, civil rights attorney john burris, who filed 2 federal civil rights lawsuit against the department for discriminatory policing has sent this letter to the u. S. Department of justice asking that its Civil Rights Division also launch an investigation. We want the government to come in and say, look, we look at this this department and we see ongoing pattern of discriminatory Law Enforcement based upon race, homophobic. And make ideas and this department has to be change. It has to be federal control for us as the u. S. Department of justice has more experience with these investigations than californias attorney general having launched similar inquiries and installing federal monitors and more than a dozen cities across the country and what we want is new policies to be written. Now back in 2019, courts ruled that cities cant force unsheltered people out of the public space if they dont have a place for them to go now to update and respect that law. Santa rosa City Council Ultimately is considering adopting an ordinance similar to rohnert park son that would be following the federal law. And it also has restrictions like camping to specific locations along with circumstances and hours and camping would be allowed in city parks, pedestrian areas, fire lanes near transit hubs por even within 100 feet of a school and camping areas wouldnt be allowed to be larger than 10 by 10 feet and unpermitted electricity would not be allowed. In addition, camps also cant be closer than 4 feet apart from one another. The city says it is taking this issue seriously. And in fact, in 2016, a state of emergency was declared and is now set to be renewed for the 67th time. The council is set to meet on this topic at 4 oclock this afternoon. Well, Oakland Police right now are investigating a shooting off garfield avenue in oaklands eastmont neighborhood. Police say the citys shotspotter system detected a possible shooting at about 9. 30 sunday night. Officers arrived on scene between 76th and 77th avenue to find 2 cars riddled with bullet holes. Not long later person who had been injured by a gun arrived at a nearby hospital. Police say the victims condition is listed as stable. Well, another mail carrier has been robbed here in the bay area. The latest incident happened in oakland over the weekend. The postal inspector tells us it happened saturday evening near the 30th and linden street areas. The inspector says that the robber had a weapon, in and of the carrier hand over the postal keys. Luckily, the carrier was unhurt. But as we know, mail carrier robberies have been on the rise now for past couple of months. Postal Officials Say a mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint in antioch, not far from Park Middle School on friday. And then back in july, we had a kerry arrived in San Francisco and another one robbed in oakland that was in june. Time now 7. 36 and Health Officials in richmond are investigating 2 recent deaths linked to legionnaires disease and both people visited the zahn day spa just days before they started having symptoms, samples of the water in the spa. There are being tested to confirm the presence of bacteria and they also didnt have a permit for that spot. Contra costa county health Officials Say that they were operating the spa without a permit. And now theres calls for the Health Department to investigate any other on permitted spas and shut them down. These unpermitted facilities need to be shut down until they receive a permit which says that they are operating in a healthy and safe manner. Zen day spa is cooperating with the investigation. However, they could also be sued for liability. Well stay tuned and see what happens as far as that goes. And then anybody who may have visited that spas told to watch out for symptoms of legionnaires disease, which is treatable if caught. But its extra dangerous.
