Fog this morning that is streamed into the bay. So if you are going to be voting this morning do plan on wearing a jacket then just a cool start as is typical this time of year. You can see your view the north bay looking down at San Francisco, some low cloud cover hovering right above the bay itself, your bridges of actually been fined visibility wise. But if you are heading up into some hillsides and right along the coastline. Thats where youre running into those lower visibility areas you do see spots in San Francisco oakland and happen bay area visibilities a bit lower. Were in the 40s and 50s right now, but this afternoon were in for a treat sunshine returning and nice warm temperatures. Rob all right. Thank you morning commute is picking up out there we dont have any major trouble spots right now. But we do have some slowing heading into San Francisco. Were checking out this line here at the bay bridge toll plaza already stacking up beyond the 80 over crossing so quite busy were looking at 12 minutes for your drive time to make it and were checking in on the nimitz because we have this crash here heading into union city 80 south at the alvarado nows exit blocking at least one lane so its starting to back up your drive into hayward so if you take the nimitz keep that in mind its lot of hayward working your way south into milpitas that just popped up your drive time to 30 minutes south to 2. 37 well check more drive times coming up back to you thanks robin. Heading to the polls this morning to decide the future of our country were going to be following that all day polls are already open on the east coast and here in california. Were looking at about one hour from now kron fours will tran is live at the Contra Costa County Registrars Office as the ballots are being counted and people will be lining up to vote it went well. There are people already walking in right now the workers i saw about 20 of them over the span of say 5 to 10 minutes so they are ready to go you can see the lights behind me they will open up 7 oclock sharp for people to come in there and vote. Personally if you have not registered to vote you have to do it today in person bring your drivers license and then present your Social Security numbers so they can verify you are who you are speaking verification let me show you some video they have been getting ready for this. Lets face it years out, but specifically over the past couple of weeks because they know millions of people will head to the polls and in Contra Costa County were talking. Thousands of people in martinez at this particular location. They even said they did a practice run with about 16 1000 ballots going through their machines. They say there is no room for any error they are 100 accurate and know a lot of people out there are fearful that that machines might not be working completely or the system could be rigged those face it thats up in the air right now has been tossed around but according to Elections Officials say say you should have complete confidence in the system. A couple of people. Who access to that room. And its alarmed theres cameras theres a 2 person rule 2 people have to be in at all times so im very confident in saying, nobodys going to have our vote. Yes. Was a 100 we would proceed. Thats the whole point is to demonstrate to the public. That is 100 people dont give us latitude of any margin of error in elections. We have to be spot on every time. Spot on to the point where james darya if its not fully blacked out as far as the bubble on the ballot that could be kicked out they will ask the person to do it again but their ballot will not be counted whatsoever speaking of balance if you dont want to do it inside and you have youre a dropoff ballot here you can do it right there. They have some drop boxes for them to pick up as well if you are going inside because you have to register even governor Gavin Newsome i saw this morning. Hes already tweeted out bring your mask covid19 is still up in the air which is why so many people are choosing the way of the drop box, but if youre going inside and we will be in less than one hour from now bring your mask back to you. All right good advice as always thank you well. Millions are headed to the polls today and the 100 million have already voted joe biden is in his home state of delaware this morning awaiting for the results, yes and standing by we have and were going to live in wilmington. With more on the Biden Harris Campaign and how theyll be spending these a final hours as theyre waiting for the results to come in. Good morning, anna. Good morning biden and harris are both hitting the campaign trail for the final hours before the polls close later tonight. Will be heading to scranton and philadelphia and heres will be heading to detroit now pennsylvania and michigan are 2 states that President Trump won in 2016 that the Biden Campaign is really hoping to flip and turn to blue this year so today. Their focus and their time will be spent in those 2 states before they reunite back in wilmington later tonight to watch the results roll in. Yeah real final push to try and convince any undecided voters this year hard to imagine anybody still undecided, but there is still a sizable number that both campaigns are trying to sway. Thats absolutely right and for the biden camp families biden supporters had really strong turnout in early voting. So the Biden Campaign is really just hoping to keep that momentum going throughout the day today and carry that the end of june until polls close later tonight, so theyre either trying to grab that undecided voter encourage them to turn out to vote or to buy supporter who may not have cast their ballot yet so its really all about encouraging voters to turn out today. Yeah and then the sun even just president ial race to the democrats have their eye on theres a real chance they could actually flip the senate which that would be that would be something that that happens. And thats absolutely right theres a few senate races that democrats are eyeing that could change the balance of power in washington if biden wins the white house then democrats would need to put at least 3 senate seats in order to gain the majority in the senate if biden loses they would need 4 seats to win the majority in the senate and so theyre eyeing a few of those specifically in North Carolina, colorado, even arizona or maine. But the reason the top of everyones mind, especially here in wilmington is the president ial race. All right, thanks. A were going continue to check in with our correspondents around the country throughout the morning in the bay area. Thank you and well check in with you later. All right also here at 6 07 check this out surveillance camera from a San Francisco business caught a thief breaking into a mailbox early friday morning. Now that seif left a couple ballots on the ground. And now there are worries that more ballots may have been destroyed crawfords tampa sackett with the story. The Business Owner here lives nearby and says he heard loud bangs when the thieves used a homemade device to fish meal out of this mailbox once the crooks are gone here and back over to a store to find one ballot on the ground and another in a nearby sewer now hes concerned that other ballots might have been destroyed surveillance cameras ever lines market in San Francisco. Court fees stealing mail from this mailbox at 20th and castro streets friday morning sammy while have owns the corner store lives nearby. He says. While had called police and once the suspects left he rushed over to a store to find about covered in glue laying on the ground and another one in the sewer nearby and i and then was. It was one at least one. Was halfway in the water and halfway up. Bobs now worried more ballots were trashed or stolen blue situation you lose votes. Election was not be feared even more concerning bob says this isnt the first time just last week people tried breaking into the same mailbox tob says that someone from the u. S. Postal service came out on monday to take a look at the mailbox and investigate what happened i also reached out to the San Francisco Elections Office about the damaged ballots, but not heard back yet. And we want to talk election day and that just doesnt mean around the bay, it means all across the state and the country keeping our eye on the millions. Voters who are still going to the polls today even after a 100 million have already voted yeah in fact this is video out of Hillsborough County thats in florida. The video was shot earlier this morning you can see already right out of the gate the line was long. This is a county that did vote for Hillary Clinton back in 2016 if the county that joe biden is counting on in order to win the state of florida while President Trump is hoping to cut into bidens lead of course were going to keep an eye on the polling places all across the country here in california the bay area. Bringing you updates throughout the morning as we get them actually one of the crazy prop bets on the elections about florida like will it be key again with something crazy happened will we be. Holding our breath all right tina right now. Weve got no problem weather wise or voting wise to back from the polls john looks pretty nice out there. He had guys i know weve all been checking like those images of people at the polls from other parts of the country roads could they look so cold. So we have no reason not to get out there as far as weather goes today here in the bay area because compared to that. We are in for quite a comfortable one, little cool a little foggy this morning you can see the blanket of fog from the east bay here over berkeley. But conditions will clear out nicely into the afternoon. So if youre voting this morning, light jacket will be just fine if youre voting this afternoon. Its best weather every will be in the 70s with plenty of sunshine overhead really no reason whatsoever not to go as for conditions for the rest of the forecast today tomorrow and thursday all a great we are in for a nice mild trend. These next few days and then fall finally decides to arrive come friday saturday and sunday at least holding off until after election day before we really actually dip into some pretty chilly conditions for the weekend ahead. Thats because we have a very strong low pressure area that will be sinking in forcing out that High Pressure ridge thats kept us so dry and so warm so far this fall season and resulting in what could be a couple of isolated showers friday. Its looking like its not going to be anything super wide spread that most of us dip into these may see a sprinkle or 2 more so than not it will be the Sierra Nevada thats you snowfall starting to accumulate friday. We drive back out and clear out on the day saturday and then another dose of moisture possible for the bay on sunday again this will be some very light spar stuff but for the sierras more significant snowfall we definitely need this weve seen expanding Drought Conditions over the course of the past couple of months, so seeing some much needed winter precipitation is exactly what we need and after election day super ideal right there because today we stay dry and we stay comfortable highs in the 60s for coastal spots of the pacific at 61 degrees. Well 70s really for much of the rest of the bay millbrae and burlingame at 7174 today, redwood city at 74 degrees as well. Well saying carlos in Mountain View at 75 san saratoga and cupertino each at 77 east bay daytime highs solid 70s for you after yesterdays 80s in areas even like oakland today we fall to that 70 degree mark in Oakland Berkeley and richmond in the meantime, the upper 60s for you. Well, only one 80 left on the map and youre seeing that today up in vacaville right at 80 degrees. Antioch fairfield pittsburgh. Each at 78 while santa rosa down through mill valley. All in the 70s as well. Tomorrow and thursday not much different than today. A few of our inland areas will work your way back up into the 80s come thursday, friday saturday and sunday as i mentioned are the days that we are going to be really feel the cool air slipping into the bay some 50s and 60s for your highs into the weekend. Sure well have plenty of sunshine on saturday, but it is going to be a cold air mass in place, our best chances of any sort of shower activity and that really light showers will be friday and then more so on sunday could see a couple sprinkles on monday as we remain cool into that day too. Robin all right, thank you john lets check in on the traffic it is packed right now heading into San Francisco were taking a live look at your approach leading up to the bay bridge toll plaza you see its stacked up well beyond 8. 80 over crossing, so you have the line is growing definitely getting longer were 12 minutes to make it in which is still a pretty good drive time off to the golden gate, heres a look at one oh one into and out of San Francisco problem free so far with no issues from the north bay so go ahead and take that trip but we still have this trouble spot on the nimitz i 80 to southbound as you make your way into hayward so we motorcyclists stalled out at whipple. Just beyond that an accident at alvarado nows as we get closer so 2 separate problems really adding to the slow traffic there for 80 as you zoom out to take a look at your drive times going to stop and go almost back from 92. Robin all right, thank you john checking in on the traffic getting a little busy out there on 92, heres a live look at the san mateo bridge. The traffic here rolling out of hayward is definitely slowing under the limit for the westbound trip. But no major issues theyre just going out there early because the longer you wait, the heavier gets where 14 minutes off to san mateo were checking in on the bay bridge commute, 80 west theres a long line for you you got to have to sit in traffic way back from the bottom of the maze thats how far it stretches right now, were looking at 14 minutes to make it in not as crowded on the upper deck, but away here behind the pay gates will check more bridges and drive times coming up james started thank you robin. As people head to the polls this morning this years election comes with concerns about possible violence businesses around the bay have boarded up their windows just in case kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live in walnut creek where she is seen just that sarah. Thats right businesses here in walnut creek at Broadway Plaza preparing for the possible aftermath take a look at that you can see nordstrom with the windows all boarded up not every business is doing that here but most are and what theyre also doing here is blocking off any way for people to drive into the shopping area that way people can pull up like they did during the last protest runin break in and steal stuff this time look there they have crews here right now bringing in barricades and making sure people can drive through here take a look at video from this morning, no theres a heavy Police Presence with Walnut Creek Police can see there on high alert they pulled up here after a person was trying to break in what they thought it turned out to be a homeless person who said they were trying to get into the bathroom here goes to show you though how ready police are to respond to any threats or any violence or anything that could occur as a result of the election now the last time i saw shops boarded up here in walnut creek was during the protests earlier this year and while many of them were peaceful. There were crowds that came out and cause a lot of damage to many stores not only in walnut creek but across the bay area and country take a look at video from San Francisco where businesses are also boarded up there as well since theres a fear the election will results could bring more protests and violence civil unrest. We talked with the San Francisco chamber of commerce j chain about why businesses are taking these precautions. Motions are running high. Its been a difficult year. Its been a difficult election season. And were afraid that things go the wrong way or people are unhappy with the results that they may take it out on businesses and windows each window smashing windows is usually thousands of dollars and if you have been paying rent for the last 9 months or you have been getting income for the last 9 months a couple 1000 is what well send you over the class. And thats why theyre preparing by boarding up the windows now. We now know the result of this election until tonight tomorrow or the next day. So thats why businesses for now are preparing for the aftermath and police are on high alert reporting live in walnut creek Sarah Stinson kron 4 news, thanks a lot of sarah. Well the time now 6. 30 for President Trump will be spending election day inside the white house as he waits for the results to come in and it sounds like this quite the barrier around him to lets go live to washington d c and talk to rock hill march and so theyve built up an even higher wall around the white house. Thats right. The president has put up a nonscalable fans around the perimeter of the white house just today and if you look around the other parts of the capital across washington dc. You also see that there are building after building boarded up the windows even in the building, im working in right now so definitely people being cautious ahead of election day today that there could be some sort of violence in the streets. And so what is the president aiming to do here in these final hours as people are actively heading to the polls. He still out on the trail technically right. Well you would expect him to be out on the trail which is why todays schedule was a bit surprising. We got it at the end of the day yesterday the president is a really have much on all we know at this point is hes heading down to virginia to the Republican National Committee Office there and hes headed back to the white house where hes expected to watch the polls play out this evening and were hearing reports that he could have a fairly large gathering in the east room there possibly 400 people could be gathering in that room inside the white house. But its also interesting seeing that the president has spent the majority of the last few days really ripping across the country trying to galvanize his base that hes taking a more relaxed approach today. We know that he was in pennsylvania michigan, wisconsin and North Carolina just yesterday really trying to galvanize voters to come out today and really get his base to turn out in record numbers yet while in pennsylvania. I mean he was or he was talking about pennsylvania. And how that if it went the wrong way that would spell bad news even pretending potential actually said physical violence at physical, yeah, which is a bit concerning coming from the president. Thats right and its also why twitter actually took action on that tweet that referring to adding a warning label to it saying that it includes misleading information now this is all over a potential loss to the president could file against the state of pennsylvania over a Supreme Court decision there that allows one county with about 100,000 absentee ballots allows them to be counted 3 days after election day. Thats of course if they are postmarked by today and while we have seen several other states and counties take similar action. The president is razor focus on pins in pennsylvania, obviously because of its battleground status. The polls there at this point extremely tight between him and the former Vice President joe biden so a lot of eyes going to be looking at pennsylvania today we wont know the winner. But well be looking to see how many people turn to turn out to see if the president will have an edge by the end of the day. All right well check in with later and all of our correspondents fanned out around the bay area, the state and the country. Thank you. All right well, San Francisco could see a historic turnout this election. So far record 322,000 ballots have been filled out and are now being processed at San Franciscos department of elections. Thats the videos seeing here 62 that number represents 62 of registered voters so huge turnout with more ballots being dropped off. Yesterday those voting in today we could see that number certainly rise Election Officials in fact are expecting a turnout in the 80th percentile but its unclear if it will actually break a record well see. Theres ever been a point where weve had as many votes cast before election day 1956 in 1960 those are the highest election turnouts that i can find those are 86 so really you know were looking at ideally something between the 8186 and hopefully something beyond 86. I would be amazing if that happened the 300,000 ballots received prior to monday morning will be the first to be tabulated with early results coming by about 08 45pm tonight and while the number will be significant election Officials Say it wont be final because there will be so many other early vote ballots to count. 6. 39 in the south bay Santa Clara County is reporting almost 2 thirds of its register voters have already cast their ballots either by mail or in person kron fours rob fladeboe compares the voter turnout for this election with the one from 4 years ago. I just last friday, another 130,000 ballots have been returned. Many of them dropped off in person like this here outside the registrar of Voters Office on burger drive of just over a million ballots mailed out to voters roughly 617,000 have now been returned since saturday when 100 vote centers open across the county. Another 14,000 people cast their ballots in person were about 60 that have been returned already an hour. Voters are familiar with the vote by mail process they did this in march. Theyre doing it for this election. I think everyones excited all the early voting means the folks doing all the processing and counting of those ballots behind the scenes of had a bit of a head start that should help the registrar make available some significant results, but the time the polls close at 08 00pm tuesday. So far the number of ballots returned is twice what it was this time 4 years ago amid obvious enthusiasm for the people to be heard. Where now they say theyre aware of what voting means to people to leave now. Was always an honor when i was started out in 18 years old now. They got away from now people start to realize how important voting is well theres a very large amount of divisiveness and we want to make sure that our voices are heard. And its not clear its a very close election right and its very divided so its really important and we get out and vote another record sure to fall is the 724,000 votes cast in the last president ial election back in 2016. Those missing the october 19th deadline to register to vote can still show up and request a conditional ballot. For those voting at the last minute be advised, you must be in line. No later than 08 00pm if we have to cut the line up at 8 and it takes until. 1 oclock in the morning, youre still going to devote just get in line by 8 oclock. In san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news. And here we have some live pictures to share with you out of detroit this morning where Vice President ial nominee kamala harris. Is expected to take the stage at some point today to rally last minute voters there in michigan. One of the states thats going to be important. Especially for joe biden in this president ial race President Trump won the state by less than a percentage point in 2016. And biden would surely like to bring it back into the democratic column. So well see what happens but again these live pictures just coming in stay with kron 4 were going to complete coverage throughout the morning live pictures like that live reporters from around the bay area and around the country as we continue to track the results and the propositions of the various ballot. I all around the country today as people are casting their bouts look at that line it could look at line. Yes, so this is the scene. From jackson, mississippi earlier this morning, the county. Voted for Hillary Clinton back in 2016, but the state what heavily in President Trumps favor. Were partly emrick of walking down a road i am trying to figure that out thats incredible in this was you know what was expected on election day and why so many people got out and voted early in advance of today because they want to be stuck in lines like this all dangerous with the cars going by and theres no sidewalk in. Well well we have a much easier here dont the weather certainly working out better for us to than in other parts of the country john where people really bundling up. Yeah here in the bay area sidewalks and sunshine its the theme of our election day as you are getting out their lines today we really have no excuses weather wise that are going to keep you inside even the fog that we do have this morning is sitting right above the bay actually making for a pretty nice start. It is cool to start so a light jacket will just fine if youre taking to the polls this morning. Well later today its 70s, its sunshine, its calm winds. All the things you want to be standing outside and if you do find yourself in a line like that when we just stop now conditions a little cooler today than they were yesterday we so weak trough pushing in all that does is help to nudge out the High Pressure ridge that was in place keeping us really warm and really dry. So far this fall season, so were already seeing the first signs of a change ahead of us that is really going to be noticeable come friday, so at least Mother Nature is holding on to some really nice weather today for election day. In fact were in that nice sweet spot in between the warmer stuff and the much cooler stuff just around the corner as we work our way into tomorrow and friday or thursday things will still be just fine friday though much cooler day brisk winds and the opportunity for scattered shower or 2 its not looking likely for most areas but not going to rule it out either for the Sierra Nevada it will be snowfall pushing in and that will start to build a good healthy snowpack hopefully ahead of what should be more of it this coming season because weve been seeing the return of drought these past few weeks, especially as weve been so dry working our way now into the start of november saturday. We take a step back from the cloud cover see some sunshine. But dont really warm up its going to stay cool on saturday. As well also see into sunday and monday with much cooler weather in general and also some cloud cover and a couple of sprinkles possible into sunday as well to finish out the weekend as for today still a very nice one will be mostly in the 60s along the coastline and then 70s for the rest of the bay area, not near as many 80s in the forecast as what we saw just as soon as yesterday and certainly no 90s like we had on sunday upper 70s to mid 70s in the south bay solid 70s across the east bay livermore one of our warmer spots at 79 while oakland you fall from yesterdays 80 to just 70 degrees today, only one 80 left on the map and thats for you in vacaville right at 80 degrees. Youngsville at 79 pittsburgh antioch in fairfield all at 78 degrees for your highs today, lets get a breakdown of your next 7 days because we have plenty of changes but were saving them for friday and then the rest of the forecast after that just looking downright cool and finally feeling more like the winter season. Today tomorrow and thursday, though if you like the warmth and the sunshine to enjoy as much as possible and especially enjoy today as you get out to the polls.
