Good morning, everyone and thank you for waking up with us on the kron 00 00am morning news, its tuesday november 3rd election day today is the day weve all been waiting for. Im Robin Winston and well get to all the election coverage in just a bit but first lets start off with a check of your election day forecast lot of folks will be standing in line today this morning later on this afternoon. John hows forecast shaping up well robin good news for the forecast today if youre standing in a line for election day later on youre going to be doing so. With sunshine overhead after morning, fog burns off and also some really comfortable temperatures daytime highs a little cooler than they were yesterday a look outside this alcatraz camera showing you that we do have some low clouds and fog that a push right into the bay, if you look at this camera you see line right there at the bottom where you can see the lights thats because fog is sitting just right above the bay itself. So do watch for some low visibility spots as you are driving into work this morning. Theres definitely a few areas out there that visibility is suffering, especially on the peninsula, north bay hills and out into the east bay hills too as far as winds go its pretty calm yet again but we do have enough of an onshore breeze that it is pushing that fog right into the bay on like we have been morning temperatures starting things off in the 40s and 50s a cool start to what will be a pleasant and sunny rest of your election day back to robin all right sounds good. Thank you john. Well more than half of all registered voters in california have already cast their ballot. The california secretary of state tallied more than 11 million total submitted ballots people all across the country are voting early in record numbers surpassing 2016 vote. California allows eligible residents to register and vote on the same day all the way to election day polling places are open 07 00am to 08 00pm today so keep that in mind and as long as youre in that line before those polls shut down you can still vote even if the wait time goes past the closing time. So thats good to know. Well of course of this years president ial election could take days while millions of americans have already voted each state has different rules on when its actually allowed to start counting those ballots joe khalil explains. Its not just president ial campaigns making adjustments in a pandemic collection we have really had to get up to speed on what the rules in the various states are julie pace is the Washington Bureau chief for the Associated Press historically one of the authorities on calling elections before making a call this year in the president ial race. She says the a p will have to be patient in key battleground states like pennsylvania and michigan we expect that could be counted more slowly and so its having clarity. Not just about what the vote that has come in says, but also how much vote is still left outstanding the record level of malin and early ballots will take longer to count and many states by law wont begin counting any of the ballots theyve already received until election day pace as this year when the a p does color race though also explain how they got there when we reach a point where we saw those numbers tell us that there is a winner will make Crystal Clear to people that just that winter is but why weve weve called the race that way youre going to have to have a little bit increase rivers state Maggie Toulouse oliver is new mexico secretary of state and the president of the National Association of secretaries of state heres much transparency much bipartisanship built into every election process recounting process. She says its important to remind voters its ok if the president ial winner isnt known tuesday night that doesnt mean the process is flawed in fact she says it means the opposite we always want to make sure that we get the results to cities quickly as we can we never want to sacrifice accuracy in washington, im joe khaleel. A democratic challenger joe biden and his is in his home state of delaware this morning after campaigning in pennsylvania and ohio yesterday. And we have an award key whos live in wilmington. Good morning, anna. Good morning. Both biden and harris are hitting the road today for a few last minute stops in raleigh. Before the unite here in wilmington at leader by will be heading to scranton and philadelphia in pennsylvania parish shes heading to detroit in michigan and both pennsylvania and michigan are both states that voted for President Trump in 2016 that the Biden Campaign is really hoping to turn blue this year, so well be focusing their attention on those 2 states before heading to wilmington will go watch the Election Results come in later tonight. Well, you know there are still so many people that are undecided even at this point so for all those undecided people in this years election. What do you think the central messages for the campaign who you know wants to get to those undecided voters. Well the message for both candidates, this entire election has really just been simple. Its been vote. And the Biden Campaign has really encouraged their supporters to turn out early and they did they had a very strong early voting turnout and so now the message kind of shifts to encouraging that momentum and keep that momentum going to grab those undecided voters and then the biden supporters who havent voted yet encouraging them to turn out to the polls today so really the message from the Biden Campaign is just to keep that strong momentum that we saw an early voting and keep that going throughout today. Then it to be interesting to see which way they go so even with the president ial race of course on everyones mind you know thats the main thing what are some of the other races that democrats are eyeing today. Well you obviously the president ial race is the big race on of the top of everyones mind that there is a few other races that democrats are eyeing that could change the balance of power in washington is buying wins the white democrats would need to flip at least 3 seats in the senate to gain the majority in the senate if you lose is they would need to flip 4 seats and so a few races that theyre looking to do that are in North Carolina arizona, colorado, even maine, so. They are keeping a close eye on those races, but again the big race on everyones mind, especially here in wilmington is the president ial race. It is indeed, thank you so much for the update and well check back with you a little later. Well this years election also comes with concerns of violence check this out you see this business is in union square. Theyre just all boarded up right now some of them actually started boarding up last week. A representative with the chamber of commerce says that he has never seen a scene like this before. Each window smashed windows is usually thousands of dollars and if you havent been paying rent for the last 9 months or you have been getting income for the last 9 months a couple 1000 is what well send you over the cliff. Well, San Francisco police say that at this time they have not received any Credible Threats of violence in the city, but you know theyre taking proper precautions that department will be fully staffed all week. Well businesses in the east bay are also boarded up check this out these are some shops at walnut creeks a Broadway Plaza businesses there are bracing for possible post election unrest. You know like looting and vandalism in fact some stores are actually opting to stay closed for at least the next 2 days. Its a sight not sitting well with some of the residents. There should be a real sense of outrage. Whereas a lot of people just seem to think oh this has to be the way of life we got to board up. What it says country coming to cape thats what they have to do i want people to be why get out there make the right choice. You may remember earlier this year looters took over the Broadway Plaza during the black lives matter protest windows were smashed and several stores were damaged a lot of expensive merchandise was stolen. Well to the north bay now an Emergency Operation center has opened up in Vallejo Police and firefighters are standing by just in case demonstrators unhappy with the results turned to writing now weve already seen how divided our country can be leading up to today right. Well, the city of was among many here and nationwide that are prepared for the worst so firefighters and Police Officers are out there theyre getting ready. Theyre stepping up just in case theres any violence or you know any sort of fire is ignited whether the results are on Election Night or in the days to come. This monday this weeks little different for us because were a position the city to be prepared in the event some unusual occurrences of civil unrest or or voter image intimidation occurs at some of the voting sites were also stolen brush season. And so we can have a fire breaks out, but of sometimes Law Enforcement incidents, a civil disturbance or result in injuries, so we need to be prepared for that also. Well at this time Officials Say they dont have any reason to believe that there is a thread. So this is all just a plan you know just in case they want to be safe rather than sorry. Well in San Francisco, a surveillance camera caught a thief breaking into a mailbox check this out and several ballots. Were inside so take a look this happened friday morning at the corner of 20th and castro street. You can actually see the thief using some sort of wire to sort of fish them a lot of the box. Well the Business Owner who owns the Surveillance Video found one ballot. Just on the ground and another in us or nearby. Well now hes worried that more ballots may have been stolen or even destroyed. Situation you lose votes. Election was not be fair. Well the u. S. Postal service is investigating what happened and we have not heard back from them just scatter from the local Elections Office about those damaged ballots as a major concern. Well happening are in transit is offering free rides to polls so take advantage of them are in transit board of directors unanimously approved county wide free fair transportation on all fix routes during the upcoming election, the 2020 general election. Well all moran transit local roots supplemental routes and the or and stagecoach will be free youll have to pay through today. So thats an option for you get out their vote and also make sure you stay tuned to the kron 4, 4 news soon. What you should know if you still havent registered plus Santa Clara Countys announcing a significant milestone in its fight against covid19 and a San Francisco there you know its in Critical Condition after a major accident will have the details on this accident coming up in just a bit. Welcome back to the kron 4 morning news the time is for 14 good morning to you thanks for waking up with a stark in early. Were checking in with meteorologist john trimble who has a look at todays forecast hey john hey there rob and were looking at another nice one today in fact even more comfortable than yesterday, especially for inland areas were daytime highs fall into this upper 70s for most areas compared to yesterdays mid 80s. So a nice start with a little bit of fog out there right now thats not going to last though so we certainly fog across the bay right now so we work our way through the day today youre going to look at less and less of that more and more of the blue skies that we had been enjoying so much of but its definitely our biggest foggy impact that weve seen in some time down. As weve seen in on increasing the onshore breeze helping to push that fog little bit further inland first little trough pushing through today thats resulting in the slight little dip in temperatures that we are in the midst of right now. We have a couple more systems lined up behind it that are going to make it even more pronounced difference on into the upcoming weekend. So were already not as warm as we were yesterday, weve stepped down the temperature ladder were going to remain pretty steady today tomorrow on into thursday after that we fall off the temperature into friday and temperatures really bottom out in the 50s 60s for the weekend ahead of us. This is friday 08 00am right here cooling air pushing in and also a couple of sprinkles pushing into the bay area you see how a lot of widespread rainfall kind of starts to break apart and lose steam as it moves across the bay area, its looking less and less likely that friday and saturday will bring any chances of rainfall for the day. But look at what we will be getting some very helpful snow up in the Sierra Nevada and at the top says some of our mountains here in the bay area also some much needed rainfall too so its not like were going to be completely dry just nothing super wide spread as far as rainfall goes by the time we work into sunday, it does look like theres a slightly better chance of picking up on some isolated showers here across the region as far as today goes none of that just yet we are dry for election day daytime highs in the 60s 50s along the coastline. Of course we do have that morning fog that will be burning off later today making for sunshine as you do get out polling locations, 60s and 70s on the peninsula with foster city at 73 saying carlos and i 75 degrees today. Temperatures in the south bay in the upper 70s to mid 70s. Cupertino saratoga as well as san jose each at 77 degrees today. Temperatures for the east bay in 70s yet again upper 70s for the tri valley, no 80s in sight for dublin pleasanton or livermore and not even for danville woman creek in concord these areas getting close to the 80 degree mark but not quite there. Oakland at 70 berkeley enrichment in the upper 60s oakland yesterday, youre 80 degrees. So thats quite a drop in temperatures 70s and just one 80 up in the north bay that will be in vacaville today 80 degrees. Petaluma santa rosa nevado and sandra fell into the mid to upper 70s for your daytime highs, heres a look ahead at your next 7 days daytime highs continue to be quite mild into tomorrow after election day today, rebound just a bit on wednesday and then friday saturday sunday and monday of next week theres the fall conditions youve been waiting for inland. Daytime highs just as cool right along the bay on friday saturday sunday and monday of next week cooling from those 70s that were holding on to the rest of this week, coastal areas also in for a change cooling from the 60s to the 50s so a few more days of this warmth ahead of us perfectly timed right through election day to get you out there to vote and then after that its the cooler weather and hopefully a good chance of rain on sunday that will tap into. Robert all right, thank you for the update john outlets update your morning drive around the bay area were checking in on the traffic which is off to a fantastic start. We dont have any big problems right now so the trip into San Francisco remains delay free and this is what we like to see so under 10 minutes from the bottom of the maze across the upper deck and over to the fremont street texan all right, lets head over to 92 are checking the drive across the san mateo bridge and its looking good so far no problems no crashes no stalls just picking up a little bit some brake lights filling in and quickly on the flat section but thats exactly what we expect. We will have another look at traffic coming up in just a bit. While a firefighter is in Critical Condition after a major accident. This is the citizen app video that shows you what happened on monday. Officials say a firefighter responding to an electrical fire near market and spear whats not to the ground he hit his head kron fours of call has latest. Around 3. 30 monday afternoon, San Francisco fire crews responded to a call of an electrical fire on the 19th floor of a building near speer in market as fire crews were battling the fire outside a muni bus drove through the scene and over a fire line the impact of throwing San Francisco firefighter enough to move in into the air causing him to land on his head. Several agencies are now involved in this investigation baxter says in most fire calls Downtown Parking enforcement workers or sfpd officers blocked the streets to keep traffic out. To our knowledge at this time they had not i deployed again thats could be something investigate ers are going look into. Well we do know, and now we have hose line going through the streets across the streets. We have emergency vehicles with their red light flashing. Indicating for the california vehicle code to stop and do not proceed through until otherwise to do so. Firefighter vance injuries come just weeks after the death of firefighter jason cortez who was killed during a Training Exercise baxter says the department is still feeling the impact of the outlaws its a hard position to we are your First Responders your community. These are times when we have to be here for each other and count on the community be here for us Jonathan Mccall kron 4 news. Lets head to the south bay now Santa Clara County announce a significant milestone in its fight against covid19. The county tested more than 1 Million People for covid19 thats about half the countys population Santa Clara County is now averaging 7,000 to 8,000 tests per day Officials Say the positive case numbers may rise but testing helps prevent outbreaks. Yes we may find and we do find more cases but then were able to educate those people that are infected and to keep them safe and others around them safe until they are no longer infectious. You just going to put that in a cyber on iraq hinges a pilot of the polls. Thank guiding voters on the dos and donts. They direct people to wear this supposed to be going i take their ballots at just 16 years old she cant vote yet, but felt it was her civic duty to help with the democratic process thats really interesting to see like the inner workings of how this stuff works most year seniors make up a large chunk of sacramento. Countys poll workers but the pandemic is preventing many of the elderly from taking part. Its why the county says its seeing a major rising young people stepping up. Im young im not probably not going to get sick if i do this really take me that much to get over it. So.
