Expansive i update to those red flag warnings now for areas of the east bay and the coast and addition to what we saw in the north bay yesterday as winds further spread across the bay area. Upping that fire danger for more and more areas as for this morning skies are clear beautiful start to the morning. But unfortunately we are seeing those red flag warnings now in effect for areas right along the coastline all the inland east bay and upper elevations too its not just today, but red flag warnings through friday as winds continue to gust into a range of 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour for most areas. Pete gust that mountain tops and this is the concerning part right here up to 40 Miles Per Hour. So in those more exposed mountainous and often forested areas thats where you have that greatest concern for a fast moving fire should there be a spark. Now futurecast a wind gust shows you we are pretty calm this morning, but winds pick up again this afternoon this has been a really steady trend. The past few days. Tomorrow is actually expected to be or windy a stay of this forecast. This is thursday at 02 00pm right here winds regularly gusting into a 20 to even 30 mile per hour range for the north bay that is where your fire concern comes in were still rather warm and certainly very dry. After so many dry months this past Summer Season all added up to plenty of dry fuel for any potential fire 50s and 60s for your current temperatures with alameda in hayward or 2 spots in the low 60s, few 40s up in the north bay lot like yesterday. Daytime highs a bit of good news here not quite as warm as yesterdays back into the upper 70s for oakland and low 80s in san jose. Robin thank you john we are hot spot free. But im tracking your morning as its picking up around the bay area. And getting a little busy on some of our bridges not bad just a little busy were checking in on the bay bridge 80 wesson to San Francisco there. It is those cars is sitting right on through the toll plaza where up to 8 minutes now which is a great average from the bottom of the maze off to fremont street. Heres 92 and its crowded as usual, but no big problems for you heading to the peninsula. So wests 92 leaving hayward west of the toll plaza is doing just just south some company out there 12 minutes off to one oh one and west 5. 80 to the Richmond Sandra fell that team you picking up as well, but still easygoing and delay free into the north bay back to you, thanks a lot rob and 5 03 in our big story the high fire danger. Has forced a new red flag warning for the bay area, a large portion of the east bay under that red flag warning kron fours reyna harvey on the story for us live. From or end of this morning brianna. Darren james good morning. Yes, another red flag warning in place you can see from the side behind me. Fire danger today very high we have some tips to get to you to keep your neighborhood in your family safe. But first officials are just saying they want everyone to be cautious as are going throughout their day that red flag warning starts tonight, so we have a map to show you the areas across the east bay that are currently affecting you can see here on your screen right now you see the areas out in concord n livermore fairfield in the les hill, not the only areas that are affected originally. The north bay mountains were under this red flag warning now the east bay hills tonight into the east bay, interior valleys also along the san mateo coast. Thats also been added look to high winds. You see all of that low humidity. A lot of dry grass and brush across the east bay does not make for a good scenario fires or going to be started in any capacity, so officials are saying the very cautious as youre out of you and the family are barbecue you guys are cooking outdoors be careful. Also if you need to use Power Equipment or other heat sources, including maybe some idle cars that are around the house that you want to work on the careful because of that night that fire can spread quickly, you know all the dry vegetation and when now the National Weather service has issued that went by warning that starts tonight at 10 and last until friday. So hopefully its just a warning. We dont see any fires breaking out now reporting here to read that harvey kron 4 news, thanks for the update. Reyna. Lets get to the other big story nearly 7,000 pg e customers across the bay now bracing for another round of possible shut off yeah going to be a big thing for a lot of folks the high fire danger the hot dry weather the windy conditions all conspiring today for speech in his hand so theyre going to make the decision to potentially shut off the power in the areas that you see in yellow, this is their forwardlooking future expectation that hasnt happened yet. But if they are going to shut power off their thinking these are the areas where that could very well happen tonight, so you can see the areas in yellow portions of Santa Clara County to the south into Alameda County up into Contra Costa County too. Around mount diablo and then finally as we slide the maps to the north bay youll see once again the usual suspects daria the hilltops on either side of napa and sonoma valley, lets go to kron fours will tran hes in napa county right now theyre supposed to have the most customers without power for happens. Well. Thats right about 4400 customers in napa county. If they are done with fires because the glass fire actually happen with full containment yesterday so the last thing they need james and darya is another wildfire to break through this area which is why pg and e theyve already told customers in napa county they will be it. The hardest take a look at your screen. It hasnt happened yet they expect to do it by tonight if its really windy and the conditions are still dry that they will do it to napa county 4400 customers altogether approximately 4400 customers in sonoma and solano counties they too have been hit by wildfires. They are not going to be hit and hit as hard as napa county. They are looking at around 1000 customers and you can see the other 3 counties in the bay area with Alameda County at around 470 customers, y p is doing this they say that the conditions are right for another wildfire, they are fearful that with the strong winds that some power lines could fall to the ground and spark another wildfire, they have been doing this for quite some time now at least for the past couple of years. It has irritated lets face it a lot of customers and with the clock ticking. They are bracing themselves for a night in the dark. Im on the wrong side of the river looks like the guy i work for has been here for. 40 something years he says ive never seen fires every year like this and all these years well the last 5 years israeli thing, Mother Nature this going to do it once. For best. Some people have generators but lets face it most people dont you can see this apartment complex right behind me the lights are on but a lot of people are being told to repay to be prepared for lights possibly turned off is not a sure thing but they are giving people a headsup and what they want to do is send text alerts. 2 people letting them know approximately when their power will be shut off and as i mentioned yesterday james and area. The goal is once this danger passes then they will try to turn on the lights within 12 hours after that so those with text alerts the look at your phone and those who dont have text alerts. There is a good chance of pg e worker will go door to door knock on the doors to let them know get ready for a night in the dark napa county, its appropriate for this area i would imagine because the glass fire james and ari only a few miles from this location. And thankfully. I dont smell smoke like i did a couple of weeks ago, and that is the goal. Back to you all right, thanks a lot. Well and another way you can track the weather the red flag words, the paddy alerts in the Power Outages is with the kron 4 app and the kron on app so get those theyre free. All right time now is 5 08 now get back to that breaking news story marshals beach in San Francisco, a cliff rescue underway right now were told one person is being rescued from the cliff for the coast guard has been called in kron 4 Sarah Stinson is there live right now sarah whats going on. Darya james the coast guard has just arrived they could hear the helicopter in the distance course, its pitch black outside you can barely see anything but we know one person needs to be rescued off the cliff here at marshalls beach is right near baker beach and the Golden Gate Bridge. I think its best if i just get behind the camera after a show you this maps you can get a clear idea of where i am theres a lot of trails in this area popular area for people to come to of course, not this early in the morning, but its pitch black outside and thats why its also making this extremely difficult to rescue the person and very steep terrain, this is all next to the Golden Gate Bridge. A very steep terrain its a great place to go hiking walk down to the beach side. Marshals beach baker speech will old battery trails taking you live out here right now you can rescue boat in the water of course they first tried to find the person on foot and a water and then they decided that the coast guard needed to be called and that is what theyre doing right now you can see some people on that boat right now, but i did hear that the coast guard in the distance against so dark out here. They went all the way over here to the right towards the Golden Gate Bridge you can see the fire trucks right there. Hopefully we can get a Better Vantage Point to show you whats happening here, but we do know one person being rescued, its unclear the condition right now were going to have to ask those questions once they have more success just to give you some perspective you can see theres the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance and then here we are on lincoln avenue which is where you go to baker beach and then eventually go down ocean beach in continue down the way but they have a lot of crews here both on foot in the water and in the air. Ill send it back to you guys now until we can figure out whats going on. Okay, i have seen out there absolutely will be back out there sarah soon as the helicopter arrives in the rescue gets underway. Thank you for the update there. 5. 11 is time right now and still ahead on the kron 4 morning news details on the new locations around the bay where you can get a covid test for free. Plus as we get closer to election day we want to make sure youre prepared to cast your ballot. Our top voting tips ahead of november, 3rd. And winds remain with us through the rest of the week we can look forward to a slightly cooler afternoon ahead of us today though with most daytime highs settling back into the mid to upper 80s and left ive got the details in your forecast after the break. And im tracking your commute around the bay area this morning were checking out the Richmond Sandra fell west bound 5. 80 leading up to the toll plaza, looking good for you right now to get on out there 7 minutes to the north bay well check more traffic and more drive times coming up after the break. 5. 14 right now lets check the weather thats the big news today, another red flag a word that john give us the details you have second round of red flag warnings guys that have gone into effect now for even more of the bay area as we have gradually seen winds picking up in others parts of the bay of not just the north bay anymore looking out there berkeley skies are nice and clear weve enjoyed lots of sunshine lately in some rather warm temperatures considering what time of year it is today will be quite as warm but warm enough that paired with those winds and all the dry fuels which is the dry vegetation that we do still still sit in the mix some pretty high fire danger, relatively calm right now compared to where were going to be out later today which is an uptick in winds towards the afternoon. Winds will increase even more so on into thursday morning and afternoon thursday is likely to be the windy a stay of at least this work week with friday continuing those winds and even though a lot cooler into the weekend still a very breezy forecast at least will be backing off the heat of it over the next couple of days. Today still warm one inland and we are in the midst of even more red flag warnings just take a look at the vast nature of this red on the map all of the inland east bay, most of the peninsula, including the coast and upper elevations of the Santa Cruz Mountains and then the upper elevations of the north bay and all of solano and napa as well as lake countys gusts of wind as high as 40 Miles Per Hour in those upper elevations means even just a spark could result in a fastspreading blaze and if you are in one of those higher fire danger areas please note that potential yet again not just today. But for the rest of the week tomorrow into friday. Temperatures today, fairly mild at the coast with 60s and 70s strong winds at the coastline means areas like Half Moon Bay are under red flag warning today, 70s and 80s for bayside cities with foster city 81 palo alto back down into the upper 70s after yesterdays low 80s south bay temperatures in the low to mid 80s for your highs today while the east bay 70s to 80s contimue down out of the 90s back into the upper 80s for danville walnut creek in concord not much of a difference but a change in the right direction getting a little bit cooler oakland at 78 the layaway 81 while vacaville and fairfield or 2 spots hanging on to the low 90s this afternoon. We look ahead at the next 7 days shows tomorrow, even cooler yet with even cooler conditions expected come friday saturday and sunday. Now thats the really good news here is we are going to be looking at some nice cool down and that is going to help with fire danger the not so great news after such a windy week it looks like winds do continue into the weekend. So this is just a very windy forecast from start to finish. But at least a cooler forecast towards the finish. Robin, thank you john off to the morning commute. Were checking in on our bridges starting off this time around with 92. Because its a very busy out there leaving hayward heading over to the peninsula, heres a live look more and more brake lights here west of the toll plaza. So you need to get on out there before it gets heavy youre right now its just ok, but its crowded so 12 minutes and growing to make your way across the span and over to one oh one here is the bay bridge approach, 80 the oakland side still looking good with no delays at the pay gates so a nice trip for now into San Francisco. Were checking out some freeways and some drive times and lots of green on your screen highway 4 at the limit. 2 42 6. 80 south looking good, no issues for the nimitz and even one oh one leaving san jose wide open under 30 minutes heading north to make it to menlo park back to you, thanks a lot robin. Some voters are concerned over the safety of those boxes Solano County assistant registrar of voters says you shouldnt be worried. All of our ballot boxes are observed by at least one person but most of them have 2 people in attendance. We dont leave boxes out overnight or unattended so. Were pretty secure. We always pick those up and bring them back to our office at the end of each day right now the county has 16 drop boxes next week, theyll up that to 25 and on election day there will be 100 polling place locations across the county Officials Say returning your ballot as early as possible, though is widely we dont want to protect our that are working through this process. We dont want advertise and store owners about different options that they can take to protect themselves as well and now were just going to getting the message out about returning that ballot early to so that we can process prior to the election and was often the issues that might come up. Breaking news to report one person has been rescued from a cliff in San Francisco kron 4 Sarah Stinson will join us live with the very latest update there in it is 5 29 1, 1, take a look at the weather and youve got john trouble standing by with a closer look at the weather on this wednesday morning john good morning guys it is another day with red flag warnings, its feels like a broken record to be talking about these at this point but it is something important, especially if you are one of those affected areas skies are clear over see chart hour right here meaning nice clear skies over San Francisco. Even more the bay area lit up with those red flag warnings now including coastal portions of the peninsula, upper elevations on the peninsula. All of the inland east bay and similar spots in the north bay as to what weve been seeing earlier this week. These red flag warnings remain in effect through friday is continued breezy conditions can be expected. Winds gusting as high as 40 Miles Per Hour at our mountain tops and those consistent gusts of 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour. We may be calm right now for most of the bay but winds become more widespread into the afternoon today and as i just told you a second ago, its not just a wednesday event but thursday and friday event to really lasting all week long in fact, tomorrows winds are likely to be even greater than what were expecting today as far as temperatures go and nice and cool start to this morning 50s 60s for most of us few 40s up in the north bay. Robin. Thank you john checking in on the traffic which is still looking pretty good right now to the north bay. I dont see any big problems here at the Richmond Sandra fell bridge. So all is well get on out there 7 minutes and growing off to one oh one here at the bay bridge toll plaza traffic is still nice and smooth. So far with no interruptions so thats great news for you, were looking at at least 9 minutes, so that number slowly on the rise here from the bottom of the maze off to fremont street will check more bridges coming up back to you thanks a lot of 5. 31 lets get back to the breaking news is happening right now marshals beach in San Francisco, a rep you rescue operation has just wrapped up their. Thank lee ended on a positive note with the coast guard able to get that person down off the cliff, lets get right to the scene kron 4 Sarah Stinson. Theyre now sara. James darya knows crazy is right off i got air on grow off the air with you guys the coast guard right. But that is right when the Fire Fighting crews down below are the boat crews below they were able to make contact with the person who needed to be rescued. That person was on a rock for the last probably 3 or so hours so its been its been a rough morning for that person they were rapidly transported to the. Take a look at this video or this actually this map for so you can see exactly where we are live right now. Right near baker beach right near marshalls beach and the Golden Gate Bridge is area has a lot of steep terrain and this is an area people enjoy you know hiking going to the beach, a very popular area but not at one 30 in the morning now. You may remember recall at least from twitter take a look at this video you can see as the coast guard helicopter was there they were actually able to make hand gesture communications with the individual. Now that person was not verbally communicating with them but their rescue swimmers. Were able to swim into the water in the dark serving you can see how intense that surf is going between 2 large rocks and when a large wave came in they were able to kind of get lifted up and grab on rescue board and that person was conscious. But definitely has several injuries needed to bring to be brought to the hospital immediately this involved paddling into this individual. At least 200 yards. So this rescue was quite intense and it is still crazy to me that right as the coast guard showed up the helicopter, they were able to reach this person and rescue them by hand i mean what a feat it was for these crews. It was a success though this person likely has hyperthermia and several other injuries, but they do believe this person will survive and be okay eventual regionally they said there was for people who needed to be rescued in the reason being. Is there was 3 other peoples yelling for help calling 911 so they were concerned. There was a total of 4 people need to be rescued in fact it was just one person. But even though theyve we want to make sure that it wasnt for theyve searched hold the grounds by foot they use aerial the use everything they flare ups finally confirmed it was just one person that needed to be rescued and it was a success, i mean that video is quite intense. Just that intense surf that they were having to endure by swimming and paddling does person and fortunately they did a great job and it was a success you guys dont use red thats something we usually dont see in darkness them do this kind of operation let alone as you said after it just such a short time be successful. What are you hearing at the scene from the rescuers or anybody about this persons story wet. How did they get caught up how long theyve been there what happened. Dairy that is the question that remains theyre still talking to this person trying to figure out why they were here. Of course when they got though 911 calls it was around 01 00am they got here at one 30. Why would this person be in the steep terrain in these like hiking trails essentially near the Golden Gate Bridge, this person was closed and again they were stuck on a rock so they believe that the person must have fallen off the cliff and landed on a rock or landed in the water and swam to the rock its unclear. So thats kind of what theyll be doing in the next coming hours of course making sure this person gets medical treatment and then filling in some of the blanks that we still have from the story still a lot to figure out but in the end this person survived and you can see how dark it is out here they had to use flashlights all eventually got my video and ill show you. Its dark video, but it will show you just how intense this was with flashlights and boats and helicopters i mean it was a very active scene again starting at one 30 ending around right now 5. 30 yeah who knows how many that they could have been there for hours before people recognize that they were you know stranded started calling 911. All right well learn more about that in check back with you throughout the morning. 5. 35 in another big story more than a 1000 inmates at San Quentin State Prison could be transferred or even released California Appellate Court has ordered the prison to reduce its inmate population by half. According to court records, 75 of inmates at san quentin have covid19. The prison has to release or transfer inmates to other facilities that can allow for social distancing the prison must also review its expedited release program. One idea is to release inmates over the age of 60 who have served at least 25 years of their sentences. This could include those sentenced to life for 3 strikes offenders. Judges say the move would allow the person thursdays would allow the prison to place inmates in a single cell and limit the spread of the virus we have Kate Hatfield with the Justice Collaborative project saying that transferring inmates is house and quickly became a hot spot in the first place. Good said you know, hey this came from transfers so you cant do this didnt say this but you cant do this haphazard way you know youre aware now that what the transfer said don t need to do this carefully cross and and and do it in the right way into the right facilities and in fact more people in california prisons have died as a result of covid19 then have been executed. So fact being incarcerated right now in california is turning into a death sentence for many people. So far there been more than 2200 cases and 28 inmate deaths from the virus at san quentin nearly 300 prison workers have also been infected and since march. The department of corrections has released more than 21,000 inmates across the state. And heres a look at where the numbers stand for california and the bay area when it comes to the coronavirus statewide more than 884,000 confirmed cases and the death toll now has surpassed 17,000 for the bay area more than a 110,000 confirmed cases with more than 1600 deaths. Time now is 5. 37 in the north a Sonoma County is expanding free covid testing. It is former in county residents start Sonoma County. And they have a popup testing site now open yesterday at andys unity park in the moreland neighborhood, its one of the communities. That has a big laugh at population of latinos in a high number of coronavirus cases. Let you know community for the most part there are a social worker isnt so they are exposed they come home a lot of families especially in southwest center is alive and multifamily or multi generational households and so the exposure is just a lot greater. The testing sites will be held at different locations these popup testing sites and you can get the full schedule locations on our website at kron 4 dot com. San francisco is a step closer to making it illegal for people to call the police with the specific intent to discriminate as city leaders passed the caution against racial and exploitative. Nonemergencies act its a mouthful but its also known as the caren act which is a little simpler to say the name is a nod to a widespread name describing people who call the police on people of color without a valid reason and this is video from june you may remember when a woman in San Francisco called police on a man putting up a black lives matter sign in front of his own Pacific Heights home. The board of supervisors will vote on the measure again next tuesday before sending it to mayor london breeds office for signature. Well today will be a slightly cooler one than we were yesterday still warm enough and windy enough that red flag warnings are expanded compared to yesterday. Daytime highs in the 80s inland 70s for most bayside areas, ive got your forecast still to come. Im tracking your morning commute around the bay area looking at the bay bridge toll plaza, no delays into San Francisco 9 minutes off to fremont street well check more bridges and more drive times for you coming i 45 is the time and weve got another red flag warning now we do a john trouble monitoring it all the Weather Center good morning. John yeah, another round guys which is something that no one wants to talk about and unfortunately we are still in the midst of theres so much dry vegetation out there that all it takes is some warm temperatures and then windy conditions like we will continue to see for the rest of the week and yes were in fire danger territory as far as this morning is concerned its relatively calm and clear compared to where were about to be calm conditions for bayside in coastal areas, well breezy inland right now winds do pick up into the afternoon today by and tomorrow in fact well be looking at some Even Stronger winds ahead of us thursday is expected to be the windiest one of this forecast at least for the work week friday we continue to see breezy conditions than even as we cool down into the weekend. Were still going to be in the midst of some high winds at times now the good news about the weekend is its going to be cooler so that will help to lessen fire danger but as for the next few days. Were still hot enough with those windy conditions that red flag warnings have been expanded to the inland east bay and much of the peninsula to upper elevations of the Santa Cruz Mountains and then the coastal peninsula, all looking at red flag warnings in effect from now through friday. Dry warm winds gusting as high as 40 Miles Per Hour for some of our mountain tops especially for the north bay as well as the inland east bay. Daytime highs today will be back near 90 degrees in livermore in concord each of 89 today back down into the 70s though for oakland in fremont just a little bit cooler than yesterday was not a huge difference just yet. Tomorrow will be a little cooler and friday a little cooler yet and by the weekend ahead of us. Daytime highs going to be feeling a lot more like fall with highs only in the 70s that are warmest for the weekend. So today and tomorrow our warmest days also some of her when dear ones winds do continue into early next week. But you can see those winds will be greeted by some 70s our warmest. Robin. All right, thank you john were tracking the drive into San Francisco and theres something blocking on your approach to the bay bridge toll plaza so its right around 80 west near the west grand exit. Not at the pay gates, but as you approach the pay gates, its unclear what it is, but its causing heavy traffic from the maze so 80 west, its backed up to the 5 8024 slid, and its backing up onto the west 24 connector.
