Action to preserve continuity of government and protect the stability and integrity of our democracy for the future. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has introduced new legislation to create a commission on president ial capacity she suggesting the president is in an altered state because of the drugs hes taking to treat covid19. Thank you so much for joining us here on kron 4 news at 3 on this friday, im Justine Waldman democrats say they want to plan in place in the event that something was to challenge the president s ability to carry out his duties for office. Our washington correspondent alexandra le mon has the story now and reaction from critics. Speaker of the house nancy pelosi announced legislation for the creation of a new Bipartisan Commission to determine whether a president is capable of carrying out the powers and duties of the office this is not about President Trump. He will face the judgment of the voters. But pay shows the need for us to create a process for future president s. Speaker pelosi says the creation of the commission is based on the 25th amendment which was passed in a bipartisan way after president kennedy was assassinated and it ensures the continuity of National Leadership specifically. Section 4. Of the amendment empowers congress to set up an independent body. To confront such a crisis. He white house dismissed the idea that is absolutely unfounded and its a stunt ahead of an the president says feeling well President Trump also reacted to the speakers announcement with a tweet calling the speaker crazy and saying pelosis efforts are really about looking at the 25th amendment. In order to replace job i did with kamala harris. In washington, alexandra le mon. Those Speaker Nancy Pelosi claims her bill is about future president s. The fallout is being felt right now Catherine Heenan host of inside bay area politics is here now with reaction good afternoon. Catherine high just saying yes since this legislation is unlikely to see the light of day and we are less than 4 weeks from the election. I asked professor David Mckeown of sonoma state. What is the purpose in doing this now. And so if you think about how democrats respond to President Trump. Whatever President Trump says whatever he tweets they go right to like the worst Case Scenario and overreact and really hear hear. Speaker Speaker Pelosi take in a page from the donald trump playbook by putting forward something that is about politics, pure and simple its going to garner white house that at that its going to garner the president s attention and by doing that and talking about his fitness for you raise a whole bunch of issues on the democrats Playing Field if theyre leading the race of joe biden is ahead by state double digits, how is the Trump Campaign going to respond and reset the race and what nancy pelosi has been able to do here is focus on the pandemic and call into question viability of this president and that joe biden and it probably helps democrats down ballot. How does she reset the campaign youve heard him saying hey, im feeling great. Hoping to get help to weekend rallies so they struggling for a message right now is he doing more damage to his campaign with this im great time getting back out there mentality that the president is best when he has boogie man when he has people to push against when he has created this kind of identity politics that he can move forward in attack sprayed with an economic message hes taken all of that off the table and now hes going to debate hes not going to debate is going to go out on the campaign trail. Its the and even that stuff that and the lack of a message that frustrates his team and frustrates the white house. The mckeown about everything from the next weeks confirmation hearings for Amy Coney Barrett to whether we will see another president ial debate will hear more from him tonight on kron and you can see the entire interview on kron on just staying. So much. Now President Trump says he will be holding an in person event in washington and also a rally in florida this weekend. This is according to white house officials. The president will be addressing a crowd from the white house balcony. The president is supposed to be talking about peaceful protests. And also law and order the white house also announced a rally in sanford florida thats scheduled for monday and this is all just coming a week after the president tested positive for the coronavirus and was sent to the hospital for treatment. The nations top Infectious Disease expert doctor Anthony Fauci weighed in on the president s announcement on holding a rally saying would actually be within the cdc guidelines, lets listen. Let me tell you what the cdc guidelines off a getting people to be able to go back into says side. It generally is 10 days from the onset of your symptoms. So apparently he started getting symptoms. On thursday last thursday, not yesterday. So that would mean that 10 days from them would be saturday. The other criteria that people speak about is 2 negative tests by pcr 24 hours apart. And i have to tell you i dont know what those values are but from the time frame. He would be within the recommended time frame of the cdc of allowing you to get back into circulation. 10 days from the onset of symptoms. I dont want to be commenting specifically about the specific things that the president is doing it disturbs me when i see that no matter who is doing it when you have congregate settings that have no masks in a situation, particularly if its indoors. That is asking for trouble and that is something that is contrary to the things that i in my Public Health colleagues have been saying for some time now youve got to avoid those situations. And it doesnt matter who you are where you are everyone should be avoiding those types of situations. Democratic president ial nominee joe biden says that he will participate in a town hall on october 15th that was the date that the second president ial debate was supposed to be held. The announcement came after President Trump pulled out of the plant debate following an announcement that it would be held virtually because hes infected with covid biden has called for pushing back the town hall format to october 22nd, which is the date of the 3rd planned president ial debate. Trump countered with pushing back both debates by week but no decision as of right now has been made. And from kids soccer to tee ball up next. What does the future of youth sports in our state. Well parents in the bay area are calling for the return of you. Courts kron 4 switch recall has details now on the governors guidance for when kids can get back on the field. As some School Districts across the bay area are preparing for already implementing in person gatherings. The question has been raised about youth sports when will young people be allowed to play again professional sports are going on right now with covid19 protocols. But if you look at the California Department of Public Health guidance on youth sports. You see that the guidance doesnt fall in that air system which all counties are going by determining whether or not they can reopen certain businesses and allow certain activities, youth sports is essentially prohibited across the board at this point unless you are allowed to maintain 6 feet from one another youre outdoors and you dont have common touch points. The guidance says that distance and the amount of touching objects and the time someone is possibly exposed to another person all contribute to the transmission of covid19 and us at this point there is no real good answer as to when youth sports will be allowed again thats why here in pleasantville you can see the fields are bare and thats been the case all over the bay area visited martinez where the city is actually remove the rams from the basketball courts the swimming pools here. There are empty thats not allowed the basketball courts here to answer the baseball field. And ive reached out to the Public Health department about this and they have not been able to provide a timeline as to when youth sports will be able to resume and again this is bay area and statewide we spoke with a parent in San Mateo County whos frustrated that his 3 boys are not able to play sports at this time he believes they could do so safely hes actually started a petition on change dot org trying to get the state to explain why they believe youth sports cannot continue safely. Ive also spoken with the parks and recreation district here in pleasantville and the general manager says its out of her some teams have illegally tried to play sports. And theyve had people monitoring the parks and had to shoo some people away and she says essentially theyre waiting on the state to give them the green light and right now thats not the case. In Pleasant Hill flipped it all kron 4 news. More businesses are now allowed to reopen in Alameda County and this includes gyms and indoor malls, but there will be a limit about how many people can be inside. Kron fours reyna harvey is in pleasanton and she has details. Yes thats right gyms and Fitness Centers across Alameda County are opening back up at 10 capacity and im joined right now with meredith she is the regional Vice President here the 24 hour fitness how does it feel to be that were so excited to be back weve been closed here in Alameda County for almost 7 months. So to reopen our 11 clubs here in Alameda County is a huge win, not only for our company but also for members, were thrilled to welcome them back. You have made a lot of changes, you know trying to keep people safe as theyre coming back to the gym, one of those things yeah weve implemented a lot of things to really put the health and safety of our members at the forefront. Were using our touchless check into the 24 go app so that members can have a safe and frictionless entry to the club. We are cleaning throughout the day, were also having stringent cleaning press processes overnight during the time that the club is closed. We put additional cleaning stations throughout the club as well as sanitization stations and were really encouraging members not only to wear their masks and to social distance but also to help us clean up after themselves. Working out for many people its a lifestyle lie is working out and exercising essential its so important during this time because we know that not only is their community that comes along with being here in the gm, its also so important for peoples physical and Mental Wellbeing in the midst of a pandemic we know that fitness helps boost peoples immunity. And you know we believe that thats so critical not only now but as we move into cold and flu season as well. Thank you so much meredith the joining me and you know many of these gems a 24 hour fitness is out here in Alameda County are open at 05 00am closing at 09 00pm so they can clean overnight. These residents we saw yesterday a lot of them going west over towards Houston Texas getting out of harms way and i have to hopefully assume that a lot of residents are taking this storm more seriously they just out with laura and again if they wanted no part of this not this other hurricane now that is about to come onshore on the louisiana coast will be here throughout the evening on lake around lake charles louisiana. Inland right now 74 conquered 72 livermore upper 60s along the east bay shoreline low 70s as we get into your south bay zone 60s though along our coastal spots.
