James you talked about a 1000 homes threaten about a 1001 because you can see this home right behind me were off a 29 between saint helene and calistoga and you can see the flames on the hillside and standing right in front of the flames is that how so cal fire. They have a couple of crews there trying to say that home one on top of the hill, one of the bottom of the hill. Embers are everywhere and i got to tell you boots on the ground here. It is smoky here today breathing is more difficult than it was yesterday. So it is getting a lot worse. Let me show you some video and pictures of this entire area you talked about the acreage so many homes up in flames others like you said or threaten i can tell you that at this particular time there are a lot of crews patrolling the area and they see huge flames they were pounce on it. Many structures either destroyed or damaged the flames continue to rip through this area that has seen fire for the past couple of years, how horrible the situation is pg e crews are also out james earl a lot of downed wires at this particular time so theyre trying to get them off the road trying to do their very best infrastructure obviously has been wiped out there some parts that you dont even have cell phone coverage internet is sketchy just to show you what its doing to everything around here not just the homes. I can tell you so far we have not heard of any major injuries unfortunately, no one has died. Unfortunately theres a lot of heartbreak in a lot of scrambling being done, especially for those who have been evacuated like this particular person. Is a quarter mile up the road on how Mountain Road and the fire was about a 100 yards from her house. So right now were waiting and helping firefighters can. And back live now we want to show you whats going on theres some firefighters coming over to asking us if we were ok you can see that fire truck right there backed into the home just in case and by the way they do that. Just in case the fire erupts that they can just hightail it out of here without being caught in the flames. Firefighters are scrambling all over napa and sonoma counties as it continues to race along the ridge line. They are doing their best and i know there are a lot of people watching us at hotels and friends location. Keep in mind these more firefighters, they are weary. But yes, you can literally tell them when they see a home thats threatened. They pounce all over it it looks like. And if you i dont know the address is simply too dark, but its off a 29 between saint helene and calistoga if youre seeing this home from a hotel or friends location i can tell you it looks like its intact. So far so good, but well just have to wait and see once the sun comes up. Just a horrifying tense time for everybody james and mary it is and its in its good that youre doing that well because theyve said it could be you know a few days before they let people back in the know if their homes are okay or not its good to know that that one appears to be fine. Its kind of hard to tell just how close those flames are in it in the distance behind the home, but obviously the fire crews are there standing by. Here in the sky Hawk Community which was just devastated, we the dozens of homes in this neighborhood this community have burned to the ground. Take a look at this video we know firefighters are still actively trying to contain this fire and gain some containment because its still at 0 and from above there you can see the smoke and the flames in the aerial flight against the split the flames and the fire know 80,000 people evacuated from their homes or or in an Evacuation Order zone or warning zone and so its been really really difficult time for everyone in this fight is still ongoing in this morning, were actually going to be trying to figure out where the fire is burning actively here in the community i can tell you you know a lot of people anxious did my home burned down or not if so is my community being watched over i can tell you with confidence because i just saw with my own eyes. They are patrolling this entire area to make sure thats the evacuation zone stays contained meaning no one else can get in the media has to present a badge to get in so i just want to make sure that everybody watching from wherever you are if you live in this neighborhood. You dont have anything to worry about. That means that areas under a mandatory evacuation you need to go and get out and do not be hanging around those neighborhoods if youre caught roaming around where you live there or not you will be stopped questioned by authorities and escorted out. Now the areas that are shaded in yellow those areas are under an evacuation warning which means you need to be packed up and ready to go just in case you get that order also keep in mind. Were following news of the entire town of calistoga is now under a mandatory Evacuation Order. Now at last check there was no loss reported within that city are within the city limits. So thats good news, but there is significant damage to the surrounding area. Now we also have an evacuation map for Sonoma County check this out you can see where the fire is burning the little red dots thats the heat signature for the shady fire and then the red orange area that means that that particular stretch is under a mandatory Evacuation Order well continue to update you on the new orders and the warnings that continue to come in to our newsroom throughout the morning back to you. Yesterday it was dry, it was hot and it was windy to start the morning. We traded all that in this morning in fact for napa your solid 20 degrees cooler right now than where you were at yesterday. Whole lot calmer than yesterday to in anyones you do see are coming in from the coast pushing in some more moist air rather than the drier that we had yesterday so humidity not going to be nearest rise yesterday. All this is good changes what we need to be seeing today after what was hurt stream fire danger yesterday 50s and 60s are current temperatures. I mentioned how much cooler it is that it was yesterday really noticing that in areas like Napa Petaluma and santa rosa down into the 50s after yesterdays 80s in some cases at this time. And heres the thing about wind events you get with the wind and it it can you know the whip up the flames to spread of something to spark some, but dries out the grass and the brush even more. So if this is the new norm, theyre looking to the north bay theyre very worried, im a south bay, no kidding and were not out of the woods when it comes to hot temperatures we still have some on the horizon get john trouble. Yeah still going to be hot guys the good news is not as hot as we were yesterday and i think the even better news is that its not going to be near as windy as it was yesterday because when you hear those 2 words wind event. Thoughts of wildfire certainly do come to mind as for sfo this morning. There is just a little bit of cloud cover out there the low fog thats pushing in a sign of a reversal of wind direction yesterday was hot and dry offshore winds. Today that coastal breeze has returned and that is a very welcome sight thats going help to push in some more moist air into the bay area and notably for the north bay, a calmer start to the morning a much cooler start to the morning than yesterday and much less dry start as well. These light winds that you do have are pushing in some more moist air yesterday, it was bone dry out there and it was very windy. So this mornings big improvements for the vicinity of the glass fire to very welcome light winds continue through the day today hardly even perceptible for most areas so yesterdays wind event looks to be over traded in for a nice cool coastal breeze spots of fog and at the coast, but we do have spots of haze for inland areas or worst of air quality is settled into portions of sonoma napa inland moran and then even areas of solano and Contra Costa County looking at less than ideal conditions. The best better air quality further south in the bay area as well as on the peninsula close to the coast. Todays daytime highs will be cooler than yesterday as youll notice in San Francisco because youre falling from the 90s and mission in financial districts to just the 70s today temperatures at the coast in the 60s and 70s another comfortable day and some of her better air quality out there. We already know that so many thousands have been evacuated in parts of sonoma napa county into including yesterday the tire in the entire town of calistoga was told to get out. This fire has burned 36,000 acres thats about 5556 square miles since it broke out on sunday. Its destroyed a 113 homes and other structures still there are 8,500 other structures that are threatened right now and thats why we want to let you know about the new evacuation. Warnings this morning and the next areas that should be concerned fact, heres a map showing. Where the fires are well in more precisely the perimeter of all the fires because there are multiple ones now that involved in put together and considered to be the glass fires you can see the red outline thats the area of concern includes both napa and sonoma counties on the napa side up by calistoga saint helene and then of course down in Sonoma County. Its really impacting eastern portions of santa rosa. Cause of the fire still unknown, we know broke out on sunday when the area was under red flag warning so its fairly certain that something had to do with that but again this morning the main concern is the protection of property and of course getting people out of harms way yeah like they did in calistoga telling everybody to get out yesterday. Lets go live now to kron fours will tran hes in napa county with the latest well. Lets talk about the protection of homes that are threatened at this particular time we moved to a different Vantage Point just to show you whats going on between lena and calistoga now step out of the way just to show you just how tense the situation is as far as the homes are concerned you can see that firefighter right there he is keeping a watch for the flames that have picked up over the past 20 minutes or so you can see the flames james and area right on the hillside probably about 15 yards from the back of the home. So far the home is intact. We dont see any damage to the home but it is getting precariously close to the home you can see also the firefighter on top of the hill, there. What theyre doing is theyre hoping that the fires there on the hills the more rugged areas that perhaps they will burn themselves out, but they have their hoses all stretched there on the ground right now and if they have to use it they will pounce all over it, but instead theyre just keeping a close eye if it gets too close of course they will pick up the house and sprayed thousands of gallons of water on to the flames. You can also see just how may be why dont know if you can see the cameras i can certainly see it with my naked eye but the embers are flying around everywhere. It is smoky are breathing a little bit more difficult this morning. Then it was yesterday that power has been wiped out to this area pg e crews theyre coming across this area back and forth trying to take down the china removed the downed power lines trying to do their very best to make sure the power poles dont fall guys on sue highway 29 which is obviously a major corridor for the firefighters and the First Responders to come and go so they want to make sure that the roadway is open so far good news. They die and james actually moved up highway 12 little bit were trying to see something new we know that the skyhook community been devastated not the whole thing just some parts like mountain hawk. Definitely a sad sight to see but driving on highway 12 you can see a lot of destruction some hot spots still and a lot of burn land on both side im wearing this construction or a cap here you just never know branch will fall down or a pole and you just want to be extra safe so and explain that behind me you can see where im a kind of what im seeing here. Its just a lot of charred land and the bridge to this house you can see has been destroyed. Now if you resuming in down here you can see theres a little bit of a hot spot. I believe that someones gas line thats kind of in a really seeing which is a good thing because as ive learned who even though they look scary. If they dont do that then they could explode so that is good by yes, its really just a lot of devastation here. Its still very dark will be showing you a lot more as the morning goes on. I mean nothing beats aerial footage when youre talking about a wildfire because you get a better look at from above and you can see the fightin where the have to go which clearly where the fire was burning last night as the sun was setting. It was very rural up in the it already had ravaged through a lot of neighborhoods and you could see there theres a big plume smoke. There is a lot of just looks very intimidating actually as we know the fire exploded in size yesterday. I mean in 6 hours it grew 20,000 acres, so this fire has been no joke and as i saw yesterday its because of those high winds. This was in a red flag warning zone and that red flag did not disappoint the wind was very very strong any when they had seen in the wild fire zone, a long time so the wind has died down this morning and thats a bit cooler than yesterday as well of a jacket on this morning. And thats really going to help firefighting efforts now i cant say it enough, ive been driving to different locations this morning. Every single stop ive made a a Police Officer or sheriffs deputy, somebody has come up to me making sure im allowed to be here so thats really comforting to people who live in the area because it tells you shows you that theyre not joking around about keeping this contain making sure. Looters dont come in making sure people dont come in to check on their home its not safe to be here and and b its not a place that anyone is allowed son. Dont even think about going by here they are definitely watching the roads are closed on highway 12. Less dry of conditions less hot too. I mean now put your 20 degrees cooler than you were yesterday and winds are certainly a lot calmer to any sort of breeze you see this morning is working its way in from the coast bringing in some much more moist air than what we had yesterday too so just a light wind from the coast this morning thats a big improvement and also an improvement as far as humidity goes a much more much less dry ahead of us i should say as compared to yesterday, 50s and 60s are current temperatures, no 80s on this map this morning yesterday we had some upper 80s in the north bay as we had some very hot conditions and windy conditions to start your monday morning. Today a much different story.
