A heartbreaking loss tonight for people in the napa valley and in fact across the bay area and around the world, the glass fire burned through the famed metal would resort kron fours Sandra Sackey went to the property to check out the damage there. She joins us now live with more taylor can only imagine what it looks like even in the dark. They key can it was a hit or miss for that resort, you know driving through there are several spot fires and you can tell how some areas were saved while others were destroyed it was really i guess a chance of luck with that on the areas that were saved but as for some of the others the lodges were among some of the few and i watched one of those burned to the ground. The last fire tore through parts of saint helene on monday making its way to the world renowned of metal wood resort. I watched one of its lodges for him to the ground or on meadow wood lane and this is one of the cottages a part of the meadow wood resort. You can see this one is a total loss firefighters here behind me trying to hose this thing down theyve actually protected some of the properties nearby but they say that this is not the only college thats gone up in flames. Well, its club house was Still Standing several of its event spaces and venues, including a drone would said and then theres rooms nearby overlooking the golf course were reduced to rubble. According to google maps. It looks like the same area house to restaurants, including its michelin star restaurant. Firefighters say theres about 3 or 4 strike teams in the property which includes up to 80 firefighters. Now we know a lot of people were checking in about the restaurants, one of them being very famous and this is actually the entrance of what used to be one of its restaurants, unfortunately looks like both of those. Now destroyed, and again, its seems like they were in the same area, some of its then unfortunately a lot of people you know enjoy that spot so i have already heard from some other chefs on social media saying that they showed a lot of tears tonight, the key ken. All right. Thank you very much taylor very sad news indeed, one of the people in the thick of things today north bay state senator bill dodd, hes been forced to watch part of his district and his hometown go up in flames kron fours Catherine Heenan talk to him today after he toured some of the worst hit areas was the napa county sheriff. You youre giving me some of the early details that i havent heard before about high end resort. What are you seeing in terms of resorts that have been damaged or lost. Well one that was particularly stark was house over choose beautiful beautiful. High you know to the east of silverado trail. Was just completely devastated. Nothing standing, its really nothing left nothing of value. It was just you know really really stark we did get it saw a number of homes in the hills up around better would resort which got hit pretty badly. They were able to say you know the there a reception area clubhouse that many many other units enforced. Were gone in many many of the homes. Of we learned that the restaurant was destroyed so were getting a little bit of conflicting information there new information coming in, but we just showed you the picture. Of the entrance to the metal wood restaurant that was destroyed. The senator says hes already talked to constituents today whove lost everything. He says its almost impossible to find the words so bring people any hope especially those whove suffered from previous wildfires are prefers theresa stasi was also in napa county today getting a firsthand look at the destruction caused by this glass fire. She has more now from saint alina. Here in napa county was a very difficult day for a lot of people especially those who have lived here all their lives as they watched the flames jumped in the air working swiftly hoping to get ahead of the flames that roared into the hot air helicopters raced and dropping water one of my kids best friends, the lost their homes. A total loss, the privately owned facility set on 2 acres billed as a romantic getaway and dedicated to honoring the spirit and tradition of the valley. It is now in ruins. Cal fire says that they are anxious about the winds picking up. The winds are number one on the challenge gusty that lower the make fires like this burned so radically so quickly and that is the strong winds that often send embers up to a mile ahead of the not only creating spot fires with challenges are firefighters, but it send embers onto the homes and right now there is no end in sight just this night falling and the concern about those winds picking up and spreading the fire even further. In napa county theresa kron 4 news. Lawrence joins us now with more on the fire conditions. Yeah guys, good news is were seeing an end to those offshore winds those winds were blowing 30 to 50 Miles Per Hour rough winds. Blow that fast theres nothing you can do to stop the fire. Were fortunate this afternoon all of a sudden the wind started to switch directions. And you know what actually getting a little bit of an onshore breeze and that is some great news for firefighters here the latest wind conditions only 2 Miles Per Hour in santa rosa, only 3 rohnert park over the mountain tops were seeing 5 maybe 7 Miles Per Hour. So very light winds compared to what we had and that is starting to be an on shore breeze so that will make a big difference for firefighters trying to fight this fire going to see an influx of a lot of moisture in the atmosphere to over the next couple days. And that is going to slow the for momentum of that fire overnight tonight, youll see here as we head through the night were going to see overnight into tomorrow morning look at that calm conditions around a good part of the bay area. No real strong winds like we had thank you can see calm in the santa rosa starting out tomorrow morning as we head toward the afternoon. Well see that afternoon sea breeze kick in but you can see that comes out of the southwest in santa rosa at 7 Miles Per Hour that is a much lighter breeze and that is a much more moist breeze that will be moving on shore and that has been the big turn today as High Pressure begins slide a little further to the east and as the axis of that ridge moves eastward. All of a sudden we see a suddenly surge of low clouds and fog and thats exactly what we need to see models are starting to pick up on that moisture trend to this the forecast for the humidity over the next 24 hours as we take you through the night tonight were going to see a surge of moisture look at all the green here that has some very moist air moving in by tomorrow morning were talking relative humidity. In santa rosa in around that fire nearly saturation point thats almost a 100 that means were going to see a very slowmoving fire conditions tomorrow morning now of course you get the afternoon in a little bit of heating the atmosphere weve had some very hot temperatures record heat today tomorrow is going to be another hot one in the valleys. You can start to see some motion in the atmosphere thats when things are going to dry out by tomorrow afternoon but nothing like we have with those offshore winds youre still going to see a sea breeze, a component of that well see more of that the next couple days speaking records. Yes, certainly we have some out there 101 in san jose that was a record oakland at a record of 96 degrees redwood city tied a record 98 they set a record of 96 degrees at sfo and yes, certainly all around the bay area these temperatures well above the average 80s 90s all around but looks like a slow cooling trend is under way well have more on that in your tent and coming up in a few minutes. Evacuation orders have been issued for parts of sonoma and napa county including the entire city of calistoga and at least a dozen of the structures destroyed more homes on Mountain Hawk drive in Santa Rosa Kron fours dan kerman went to the sky hawk neighborhood and shows us the damage. Were in the sky hawk neighborhood of santa rosa and as you can see behind me burned down homes, however this is not like 2017, yes, there are numerous homes that have burned but numerous homes are Still Standing its not like. Entire neighborhoods have burned down. Fire Officials Say thats because this fire is completely different than the one in 2017. This was not one solid wall of fire that moved in the city limits, its spotted in the city and sometimes some areas a mile ahead of itself. So a lot of areas with a lot of work that needs to be done. And we understand that the evacuations of affected 10s of thousands of people in santa rosa as well as in Sonoma County. We definitely want to be able to get people back home but its going to potentially be several days in order to do that neighborhoods that have been evacuated include Rincon Valley as well as skyhawk where we are oakmont molina. And now Bennett Valley because the fire has gotten into an state park. But if theres one thing working in firefighters favor tonight. Its the fact that winds have really come down. Residents are hoping that if they made it through sunday night, the house might make it through monday night. And dan kerman and santa rosa back to you in the studio smoke from the glass fire affecting air quality of course all over the bay area and the spare the air alert is in effect right on through friday. This comes a couple of weeks after we got off a monthlong spare the air alert during which we woke up to orange skies really creepy the air outside may not appear is bad but air district officials are advising everybody to stay indoors if possible. We can go outside and we can you can smell it and people dont realize that the body actually its used to smell can be also as well so and some people way. And during these spare the air alerts wood burning, im burning manufactured fire logs or other solid fuel is prohibited. All right turning now to the weather with our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow is tracking their quality out there yeah so far its been pretty good tonight and thats because the winds just of calm down, but as those winds calm down now were going to start to see some of that smoke work its way toward the surface and then what are called going to get bad i think tomorrow but out there tonight look at that little fog just beginning to make its way into San Francisco after the heat wave after the record breaking temperatures certainly a sign that that ridge. It started to weaken someone up toward the Golden Gate Bridge is very thick out there some dense fog settling in right now maybe a little damp maybe a little drizzle overnight tonight that is fantastic news we can move this further and further on shore thats really going to help out firefighters but the air quality. Yeah, it doesnt look bad in fact it looks really good into San Francisco along the coastline in the san mateo mill valley as well nevada looking good modern amounts include some haze as you get to the interior valleys all the way down to san jose and of course the north bay. Now tomorrow of course those winds calming down could have the air quality weve got some very unhealthy air quality in red here located in the north bay from kerrville all the way down through petaluma the bottle sandra fell in the mill valley and then unhealthy air quality also in orange here extending all the way inside the bay down to san jose and the east bay, the only place you can get your breath of fresh air is probably right along the coastline think theres going to be enough of a southwest wind to keep the air pretty fresh out toward the coast but to go along with that of course you can see some of that ash fall as well, especially in the north and theres some smoke has been pushed out over the ocean that is going to start to come back on shore temperatures around the bay area right now 64 degrees in San Francisco. It is 65 in oakland, 70 degrees warm still in san jose 75. In the more 78 in concord and 62 degrees in santa rosa longrange forecast. This is a huge dome of High Pressure the built overhead that brought us those offshore winds and a record breaking temperatures look at that sending any chance of rain well to the north thats going to be the case again for tomorrow and really the week ahead. Its finally going to start to shift a little further to the east as it does well see more low cloud and fog began to creep along the coastline, but this its going to be a slow cooling trend will really be till the weekend that we see significant cooling all around the bay area, some of those interior valleys that have been remaining hot near triple digits again tomorrow the finally start to see some going so your tent and go to drop those temperatures down a bit still staying hot over the next few days the onshore breeze will continue much cooler as we get into saturday and sunday, those temperatures continue to cool off the following week. All right lawrence, you know, hundreds of families from napa county are spending the night away from their homes, the glass fire issued Evacuation Orders or warnings for almost 12,000 people in napa county. Kron fours Maureen Kelly talked to some of the people at a local evacuation center. Behind me you can see a long line of people outside the Crosswalk Community church. These are people who are waiting to get a Hotel Voucher because theyve been forced to flee their homes. I spoke to some this morning. If you saw the flames very close to their front doors.
