Acres so far. It is 0 contained. Look at how tiny the firefighters and the trucks look up against the glow of the huge fire that is burning more than 2 1000 structures right now are in harms way threatened by these flames low once again were used to that site, heres a map that shows you. Where the fire is burning now burning east of saint helena and calistoga in napa county and then again just east of santa rosa in Sonoma County the cause of the fire still unknown, but that red line is the perimeter of where these fires are burning right now we know that it started in an area that was under a red flag warning which as john was preparing us for as were going into the weekend we knew temperatures are going to get awfully hot as we head into sunday, yeah it was so hot last night and you can smell. That smoke i did write when i woke up this morning plus there are 2 other fires in napa county believed to be a spot fires of the glass fire, lets take a look at the napa Sonoma County line is where these are burning. Were being told those are called the shady fire and voice and fire right now. These pictures are live. From a camera that we have posted in that area napa county this morning and you can see a glow from the flames and then the darkness and smoke from those fires again youll smell it this morning, cal fire and local firefighters are diverting resources to try to contain both of those new blazes as well. It contains areas, south of saint polina road west of napa Sonoma County line and north of los alamos cleveland a ranch road. East of calistoga wrote. Now Authorities Say the santa rosa. We also have Team Coverage of the big fires we want to get out and sample whats going on right now first stop we want to visit with kron 4 Sarah Stinson shes live in Sonoma County this morning. With more on the situation there and sarahs bring us up to speed with whats happening behind you. All hits an active fire fight here in santa rosa, it is a scary situation be because they are in these neighborhoods, im live here at sky hawk park which is on fire and all of houses behind me, there are still a lot of the stuff that could potentially be on fire here the firefight actively happening where im at right now though theyre able to get some water on Mount Hopkins san ramon. Cant seeks its so dark home behind me in this corner has nearly down theyve been able to contain it in some way. But theyre still actively trying to fight this fire the trying to save homes of course all the people in this area have evacuated. And its an area where you just completely get turned around at this point. Down because theres 5 on both sides of the road and so they told me no going at your own risk, but this is a this pretty intense situation, obviously its dark out. And what of notice years that theyre dealing with a lot of wind its heavy winds out here and so thats got to make the fire fight even harder. Im seeing sparks. Flooding in creating more fire so thats really a concern for firefighters. Not going to make this easy and theyre dealing with it being pitch dark out here so theyre dealing with a lot of problems but you know their use of this is not the first time so theyre going to be continuing to try and put these flames out, but its just crazy to drive into this neighborhood on Mountain Hawk. And you see this cute little park right here skyhawk park and then in the distance you just see flames. You can see right here. This is sky hall park and some sparked right there some little flames hope our customers there and then if you continue driving, i just saw a lot of flames back there and its its looks a little saying that waiting to see what the situation but ill be kind of saying youre these firefighters as they work to try and save some of these homes because as you can see this house right here totally standings fine and in the house right across the street and nearly burned down theyve been working to try and contain that so that doesnt continue to spread to other homes that were just going to continue to live this morning. Show you what were looking at and of stay safe in in at the same time you know well send it back to you in the newsroom, how is your drive there were you seen a stream of cars and all people still trying to get any activity other than the fire crews that you saw going. No i didnt see anyone i heard that there gridlock getting out of santa rose about 2 in the morning or and i didnt see that looked like everybody was out i drove you know through petaluma didnt see many people on the road obviously more people heading south then people heading north of course a lot of cash coming from the sky you can see that even in the live shot right here. Yeah, the ash at that i see in your live shot, but also the video that you were showing which really showed the wind and how strong the wind was the way that the embers were blowing looks like shooting stars they just by the camera and they were big and that explains how these spot fires got started in the first place. The ad area thats the biggest concern im seeing my own eyes is just those embers in the wind and then you know theres major concern that a fire could pop up to your right to your left. So that is going to be a huge problem ive never not a long time have i been in a fire ive seen this strong of a wind yeah. Yeah and that that is the concern glad that youre staying by the firefighters were just rolling one more shot. The video that we have where this roof just comes flying off of well looks like an outbuilding and that shows you again, yeah just how strong the winds. Were when this whole thing sparked when the glass fire started now syria is on 2 fires in Sonoma County that are spot fires. The result of that yeah in fact we have some video that was collected over night not far from where sara is located right now. In the sky Hawk Community so sarah was near skyhawk park in this video is from a hard drive which for borders, the park you can see the homes on this particular portion of that road i have burned to the ground that one still on fire. Looks like a beautiful community, but obviously we can make out in the glow the fires that a good bit of at least this section that roadway Mountain Hawk drive has burned to the ground. And again this is a scene that weve seen repeated, it seems now year after year. As these fire season seem to get more and more intense and the fires continue encroach deeper and deeper into populated communities. And the big worry with this fire season which only really just began. Last that as temperatures and winds will pick up as we get deeper into the fire season that we would see fires begin to burn in communities with embers flying miles ahead of where the fire is actually burning. Now you can see in the video, you know what the story is this morning. We got a lot of families devastated by the loss of their home, you know were waiting to get a number on how many families this is affecting but the the swath that you saw were showing the map of the Evacuation Orders not. Not a choice, but the mandatory orders was huge far greater, then those are on standby now are those that already had to get this is along the last almost drive and we you know so much video coming in to kron 4. Showing us just the devastation. Ive also been just starting to hear from people. You know that are worried about their homes. I heard one little boy saying he couldnt have been more than i dont know maybe 10 years old. I hope are can have a lot memories in there hes 10 years old a lot of these people you know if these communities have been living there for years and years dont want to have a 10 yearold been you know ask a question like that we saw lets talk to john here in a minute. We saw sarah talking about the winds she saw the embers the ash flying all over the place so the winds very big part of all of this especially for firefighters as they try to battle us so john what is the situation with the winds right winds guys have been the biggest problem at least last night into this morning gusting as high as 50 Miles Per Hour. We have confirmed gas atlas peak of just that high looking outside at these multiple, blazes that are burning across the both napa and slowness sonoma counties. You are seeing wind still regularly gusting anywhere from 15 to 25 Miles Per Hour in these are lower elevations here so it is a consistent steady wind mostly out of the northeast a pope valley saint helene a glen allen and santa rosa all pretty much in the same boat as far as those winds go and when you see winds as widespread and as regulators that you can share that once you head up into those Higher Elevations, winds are Even Stronger which as i just said to you. 45 to 50 mile per hour gusts have been reported around 4 to 500 feet. We a lot of this wildfire activity has been heres the good news, so winds are the breezy us right now they will begin backing off gradually through the day by the time we work our way into the afternoon look at this calistoga from very breezy this morning to some actually relatively calm conditions by the close of the day. So that is definitely exactly what we need to be seeing winds coming down and theres a bit of good news for you now unfortunately as winds do come down humiditys going to drop this afternoon so we already have very dry tender all that dry vegetation that this fire. These fires are burning through. You pair that with the dry air that we of course have and even if winds are not much of a factor we still have the potential of growth of this fire here. Tomorrow will still be another dry day too so tuesday does look like were going to have high fire danger. The good news is we will see these red flag warnings expiring for all of the north bay in the inland east bay at 09 00pm tonight as fire danger does gradually begin to drop the week ahead of us so were in the midst of the worst fire conditions right now and you can see that reflected with these red flag warnings, peach of course are heat advisories right along the bay, shore where temperatures today will again be scorching hot potentially record breaking for a few spots berkeley right now youre 84 degrees say holy know right now 87 degrees fairfield at 79 some of our wind year of areas are actually are hottest of spots this morning as far as temperatures go. After such a warm start we are in for another hot afternoon triple digits. Inland 90s by the bay and 80s near the coastline. More on your forecast is still to come back to you. All right, thank you very much john and a quick reminder to you can download the kron 4 mobile app right now to get the very latest with breaking news alerts Evacuation Orders. The very latest with the firefight again kron 4. Mobile app is something download and stay connected with the very latest information all throughout the day today right now we want to go live to and fall with the Santa Rosa Fire Department assistant fire marshal there. To give us the latest details that he knows good morning. Hey good morning. Whats whats the update on then the glass fire than the 2 spot fires that have burned this morning. Heart. Yeah the right the information i have is the fire that has moved out of the county fire line up by annalena pushed into center of the. And fire did burn actively was spotted ahead of itself by a mile and eventually pushed out of the county the hill to the north and the northeast. And progress down into the guy off. Want and Rincon Valley area right now the Evacuation Orders that we have that went into effect last night. Work each of out of the road and both on the north and south side of highway 12 on the fire is continuing to burn actively. Would be a pretty extreme fire behavior and very erratic got the win. In and we do have a number of that have been both damaged and and right now the goal for those that are familiar with the areas to it from continuing to progress to the south and get into and it will stay part. Give us an idea of how populated this area is and how many people are families were talking about that have had to be evacuated. Yeah, the initial Evacuation Order that went into effect for that east that stretch in the area and the prominent leader for duis Rincon Valley skyhawk Molina Oakmont with over 6500 residents. So were looking at of thousands of that asked to evacuate in a relatively quick period of time. They did pretty guess compliment of Law Enforcement from under the plea county sheriff 8 involved another of the law or other agencies it pretty much pointed every single interception along i would fall in a lot of the major intersections off of it to get people out as quickly as we could we knew that there is going to be significant traffic jam try to get that many people was a definitely a traffic condition that we were expecting. But were very happy to see that as the fire unfortunately did progress into the city limits that the would ask that of people trying to evacuate that was something that is much different during the fire on the way for in 2017 and that the difference between 17 and today a lot of improvements have been made and were seeing improvements go into effect lead in the last thing that the community needed. After the fired 1719 and then the water to myers have another fire. Blow into the intimate dinner the last thing that we needed but. We definitely had a lot of planning preparation in advance that this could happen again so when did you tell i mean thats 10s of thousands of people like you said on the move. In the wee hours of the morning. Did they get a lot of notice did you notify them, you the day ahead because we have been talking about the winds and the fire danger and then what time are they on the sarah was saying that she. Her there traffic jams at 2 oclock this morning. Yeah, that the timing of it though even before any unit were on scene. We had already started moving resources into the area bringing in Public Information officers medication team. Putting our evacuation plan into theres a lot of preparation that went into effect for the potential for the its something that we get the dreaded it was going to but we do that there is the potential for a lot of unburned fuel between the old fires you significant burden that what were seeing. So was he was power already often wire since you knew was power already off. Power with the energized that the fire pushed out of the hills into the valley floor. But people evacuated while murdered dealer. Killer is them that is all all went out late last night into early this morning. In advance of the fire dropping into the valley floor ok i was just running of the Public Safety shut down you know what they anticipated where that line was of they shut down the power before the fire or they shut down the power after the fire started. Yeah, i dont have a cause related to the fire. But the power was shut off. Out of the Public Safety power shutoff but it was soft for Public Safety and firefighter safety. As the fire moved into the cases quick as they could once the fire was sparked a shutdown. I was one of the request that was made was that. Needed her energize the transmission power line in the area where the firefight was going to take place. And you have no estimate on the number of structures obviously because you want to get near there but can you tell us. What was street or road seems to suffer the most as far as the loss of homes. Yeah, i dont have that thick, there is a there was a lot of fire activity. The skyhawks area youre into. Fortunately the fire did on both the north and southbound highway 12 in between oakmont and die off other the number of a structure damaged and destroyed in that area. We were so far been very a lot of the festival fate Vegetation Management work and prevention and preventative measures really have paid off in that area. Significant number of resources from all over the state that moved into that area. It came from the fire we had within our region and they were able to quickly deploy into those communities in addition a lot of our local reporters and another thing that happened here is we she will be for 2 in all all. Where it to them that is everything all available resource in Sonoma County. Big area. The Early Morning that all fall of play Fire Department by region even district all of us know the county and burden that they play in center of the quickly push to know a lot of the neighborhood that plant protected many structure that possible. Going forward is going to its going to be a hard because as we said this is considered an offshoot of the glass fire. So the governor of resources are already over the hair. And im wondering how long things are going home before you need more help. Yeah were hopeful of the lets today allows the 50 k to make Good Progress right now. The wind not in our but it was something that we expected and knowing what the potential was like what prompted an evacuation and profit that gave all resources to be put in the area. So theres a lot of a shopping there was a lot of plans in place knowing that were going into pretty some pretty significant fire weather. With the red flag warning that the wind and the heat though a lot of departments across the county were stopped a from a number of resources and striking your employee. So were fortunate to have unfortunate the event has grow to the size a lot of people have have livestock disease shelters that have opened up the handle those. Yes so we have we are just temporary evacuation which was a large parking lot in a safe place. On the left side of that something that we had planned and in place because of the pandemic we didnt want to move people into if we did need to conduct a largescale evacuation plan was literally we have contracts in place a porta potty watch station immediately move in location that we needed that one of those up that area where people were able to evacuate you and then make a plan and go where the need to get on that plane addition to that there are a number of other a colleague a shelter that have been set up. Originally at the forgot about building. And now moved down to petaluma fairground are encouraging residents either within the city limits that the for the county has nova they go your respective what i do believe that a road that has a website set up at our city. Dot org or slash shady fire. With all the evacuation and emergency information and the county is have the web site. Www emergency dot org. Theyll both those website will have significant amount of information resources. The president and utilize. Its heart is with covid you know normally you just jam in as many people as you can pack a man but with covid im assuming youre doing things way differently plus youre encouraging probably everybody have masks and if you if they dont im sure that youre handing them out. One of the things that weve been talking you know obviously early we put a lot of plant did a lot of education over the last several months hoping that we never have to actually implement it. But the evacuation plan that concerns related to covid making sure that people have that a half than that pfizers. All the things weve been asking people to add to their go back to that in the event that we did have that they were ready to go a places may other evacuees and you back awaiting to a friend or family members or you just want it that its a precaution, okay, thank you so much appreciate the ill let you go know that here. Usaa insurance is made just the way martins family needs it with hasslefree claims, he got paid before his neighbor even got started. Because doing right by our members, thats whats right. Usaa. What youre made of, were made for. Usaa 5. 20 back to the fires now and that are as a result of the glass fire in napa county in Sonoma County were seeing lots of evacuations, 10s of thousands of people on the move and we go live to highway 12 now near santa rosa, yes, rick ross was the only 7 standing by a new leader youre not too far away from where sarah was out there skyhawk the situation is getting pretty dicey for her. What about you. Yeah as well as just keeping my eye on this because this was a like it just a few minutes ago, you saw some really heavy flames and i saw firefighters rushing over here to try to cut this off now im in the intersection of highway 12 and will lead a road and i believe party that for talking to earlier on the fall. Mentioned this intersection specifically. Because theres fire everywhere surrounding this whole area on going to start panning off that youre kind of seeing off to the distance a little further down leader road i saw a lot firefighters going down that road and then this is highway 12 its completely pitch start because theres no electricity whatsoever. You also have a lot of smoke and ash in the air. But you can see more everywhere you see just up on the hillside. Theres a heavy the plane kind of going on over there too as well, but that one is carter. A somewhat far for me, not im not too worried about that. But you can also just see here along highway 12. If you know the fire came through and just ravaged this orchard. Thats along highway 12, so all you see are little embers and you know just little flames here and there so it just continues down highway 12. Under that tell you the land is really bad. The wind is really picking up. I dont know if you can tell here let me any moment try to turn on my life. And see if you could see. Bad this. 3 is. Just move in. You can see also how hall much ashes in the air but. You can just see how wholeheartedly the branches are just swaying back and forth because. Theres so much you know where and yeah its pretty strong here and of course thats what god thats what has everyone concerned you can see another blow. Often the distance here. You know i just about guess for half a mile back on highway 12 when i was coming up. Poiice officer who was there who had pilot well blocked off. You know which direction can i go work early few complaints but easy for me to of rye. He was just basically saying know go and you cant go anywhere going to buy i was wondering just stay on high wish. I just highway 12 but no room to do a u thats what you know our what im sticking with on sticking on thats what you only i mean youve what youve been working long as i have 20 years or whatever and i was thinking about you brushing did it did you stop this morning and say for a second. This crazy. You know youve been here youve been chasing fires 4 years youre a mom you it and you and you didnt ever stop and say what am i doing. Daria you know what youre right weve been chasing cars for years, but i have not chase fire so frequently and so dangerous like its been in the last 3 you know in an arena in a 30 year career of being a news. You know i you i remember the portray as far as i remember that all come far as you know now about far is that weve gotten into. But in the last 3 years, its just been really crazy because weve been in these really good. Dangerous far is painting found them. Over time and now of the santa rosa its just really been on the last 3 years called you know these fires have been so back to back. It is quite crazy unfortunately. You do become somewhat of an expert on how to try to get. Try to get the stories of the people who have to deal here and try to be a safe us possible of doing that yeah. Well we thank you for. For going in when everybody else is evacuating only for giving all of the great video and live shot that youre giving we could definitely see a lot of that ash and embers blowing in the high winds like each are like you were explaining and highway 12 major out there and it is weird and it is weird because you know youre youre looking at santa rosa places and ravaged by fire like only said in city you know year after year the last 3 years seems like since 2017 until and this particular part of of santa rosa to sort the east northeast section. Thats where kron 4 Sarah Stinson is also standing by as well just to the north and to the east of where you only was reporting from shes out of the sky hawk neighborhood last time we talked to use air youre giving us. A lay of the land and the park and sections of that road that that border, the park just homes gone. Yeah, im up here a little bit more of the road on a mountain hop drive where theres an active fire fight going on right now theyre so homes that are a total loss, but theres also some homes that are just trying to put the flames out but it doesnt continue burning towards the homes that are Still Standing let me get behind the camera and show you what were looking at here on mount drive. Theres a. A firefighting presence here on show you first a home in the distance that is of course a total loss you can see the devastation collapsed garage and then the rest of the home is just reduced to rubble that is on fire now next door here were looking at an active fire fight ease up on the fire truck and then theyre shooting water out and honestly can the wind is so strong at times when youre around these firefighters, it feels like its raining because the water thats coming from those hoses are just Straight Line down on us it really does feel like its raining right now its raining ash is raining water. Theyre trying to get as much water as they can on this house, i know its very dark try boost up the lighting with mike with my camera life but you can see that garage right and then the rest of the house definitely a total loss, but they want to stop the flames here, but it doesnt continue burning in the rest of the neighborhood you can see down the way here more active flames another home burned to the ground but that you see him on like this completely Still Standing so the goal is to save house like this put the flames out homes like this man its a very intense. Firefight i dont know if you can see how windy is also the trees right very very intense when the firefighters are dealing so thats going to make this fight even harder definitely scary to see these active flames within city limits in this neighborhood has recently fires that caught in the middle of basically nowhere where houses were far and few between but here were seeing houses this is a straightup neighborhood in Santa Rosa Mountain hop drive so theyre doing the best they can here to try and put it out i actually talked to a man stay behind hes not going to evacuate and he said hes hes trying to help the firefighters which of course is not recommended its not safe to stay behind so if you happen to be in the Fire Evacuation area i would recommend that you leave immediately because otherwise they get mail theyre going to concentrate their efforts rescuing you if this fire becomes out of control send it back to you guys in the newsroom and quickly do happen to know what the house number is of that house thats actually Still Standing that youre in front of im sure the homeowner would be thrilled to know are you able to catch that. Its 5, 9, 0, at their neighbor and neighbor to the left perhaps also has been spared for now anyway, but obviously the big concern of those firefighters at these numbers are still flying around look at and cooking and on walls and roof house is absolutely so thats i mean thats just. Randomness of these fires to which is kind of galling to the people who live there because youll have. You know one random house burned the house next to it standing just 5 years old just a a game of chance as to whether and amber will fall on a roof or not in those winds obviously making things a very intense for the 500 neighborhood teams just a second the cameraman pulled out but at this lawn chairs. You know there was like Outdoor Furniture sitting out front of this beautiful home and its Still Standing and you can see they just took off layoffs. And you know this is a place that people moved to enjoy nature and this is what happens when youre in a neighborhood that you know has said that its that close to areas like this is this is all a result of that first fire broke out napa and theyre saying that that one is much larger, but its not an as populated area known we saw in that live john just off camera here. The ash blowing sideways in act in that shot the wind obviously going to be a big problem at the moment is it going to continue to be a problem throughout the day think thats actually a little bit of good news guys even though the wind is a big problem right now thats the first thing thats going to be letting up in this forecast just by this afternoon. Many of these areas that are in the midst of some of our strongest winds right now well be seeing some relief and thats not that far away. But we are in the midst of our strongest winds that means the glass shady and boy some fires, those are those additional fires burning southwest of the initial blaze, do have potential of rapid growth this morning, its warm humidity is low, theres plenty of dry vegetation and then of course those winds which have been problematic gusting anywhere from 15 to 20 Miles Per Hour regularly this morning. Glen allen a little closer to 25 to 30 Miles Per Hour. And what you had up to 4500 feet which is where a lot of this fire activity is those gusts quickly jump up to 45 to 50 Miles Per Hour so get the picture there of just how windy it is this morning. The good news is as i mentioned winds do come down and quickly by the afternoon ahead of us its a much calmer situation all across the bay area. The bad side of this is humidity is low right now and will actually lower a bit this afternoon so were still going to be bone dry into the later part of the day are also going to be really hot later on today to with daytime highs in the 90s to triple digits. Now up to one o 3 santa rose up to a 100 degrees red flag warnings across the north bay and the inland east bay through 09 00pm tonight. Its all because the fire that started and now has started as 20 acres now its more like 2,500 acres yeah were talking about the glass fire that broke out sort of between calistoga. And saint weve got in total about 7,000 people affected with an evacuation either mandatory or warning this morning. So a lot of family lives disrupted for more on this we want to go to will train is actually just south in saint helena. And well youre south of the active fire burn whats the situation there. Chaotic im i can literally see the flames along the ridge line i actually pulled over when i saw so much chaos i mean calistoga let me step out of the way and show you whats going on Police Officers are here and they are shutting down this location, im at the intersection of lincoln and foot hill and you can clearly see officers out here look at all those headlights beyond these 2 people here you can see they are leaving the scene very chaotic only First Responders are allowed to go beyond this particular point hard to make out especially at my location, but john is right, its in the Higher Elevations looking up with my. I without the camera hopefully the camera be able to pick it up, but i can see an orange glow from my Vantage Point so its along the ridge line you can see there are more crews here. China set barriers so people will know exactly without being told. They are not allowed to go any further than this particular location you can see now that the 2 people did step away you can see just that see of headlights leaving this area. When i first got here james area at around 5 oclock in the morning, you could hear sirens constantly blaring in the background so lots going on at this time if you ever been here you know this intersection theres the calistoga sign saying holiness a few miles from my location, ill try to move a little bit closer but i just wanted to pull over just to show you im on the situation is and i got to tell you james area it is warm yeah place midsummer at this particular time her jacket on literally sweating it assume are under car after car. Because we had heard that at 2 in the morning, there are a lot of people on the move you know people started with these Evacuation Orders but where you are on the glass fire. Were talking about 7,000 people under see the role warning or at a mandatory. Evacuation order and thats a lot of people still trying to get out. Now ive been here this is a sleepy town, lets face it at 5 35 5. 40 in the morning, there is no way you might be able to see maybe 3 cars and use time. If youre coming out here for another story but look at this wow this will this looks like ben s wow in san francisco, yeah theyre all on the move and heading out hopefully theyll have some place to go i know theyve been setting up Evacuation Centers. And as we heard assistant fire Marshal Paul Lowenthal remind everybody if you do have an evacuation warning in your area, one of the important things want to include in that kit that go back to go is Hand Sanitizer and also that face masks because once you get to the eventual ter obviously we do have you know quarantine protocols in place when it comes to social distancing and everything since you of the hospital even evacuated the eyes which is a big deal because you know with covid and then with the fires and with it.
