Dave and heres a live shot coming in as a foe, we have a fog and some stratus clouds here and there are no delays being reported this morning a look at our temperatures now were in the 60s and 50s over most of the real estate bugs and take a lot of clear on the east bay shoreline going to cost us temperature wise just a touch. But a pretty nice weekend in store for you and this last weekend of summer throughout the morning news continues. You know how these things start. You try wendys buy one get one for a dollar breakfast offer, love it and tell a friend. Then they tell a friend. And so on and so on and so on. So get to wendys and get some breakfast 7. 16 this saturday morning, good morning, everybody welcome back and we want to look at the forecast this morning were dealing with another spare the air day, especially in the north bay and some parts of the far east bay right yeah thats what it looks like thats where the unhealthy zone is elsewhere around the bay. Were still kind of in the moderate category holding in in the fog is greeting us this morning live shot coming in from a timber on and its not covering everywhere like summer and were not getting a lot but to get down the city. Thats where it has kind of encroached and also cellphone no delays happening with this. Theres a live shot of the the airport you can see 60s and 50s on the board for right now weve got the midfifties up to the north bay 62 antioch 61 conquered, 65 for hayward and 60 going on San Francisco for futurecast for we dis to see that fog kind of mix out we go into a mostly sunny modal bow going to be a little slow along the east bay shoreline just a touch, it looks like a little bit this is what it looks like by tomorrow morning, less intrusion of that morning fog and that should clear out a little quicker. Tomorrow and youll that sunshine for these affected areas probably earlier in the day that were going to see for today on balance doesnt do a whole lot to our temperatures but they will be somewhat contained as we look for much of the week ahead. Heres what the game plan is morning fog around the coast and the east bay shoreline but mild temps with highs in the 70s and 80s then for tomorrow, well put that into a quicker morning Clearing Program a touch warmer too well be maybe a couple 90s poking out here and there but this is to one day pop. And then temperatures retreat just a little bit back to the mild column, sunny and mild with all of that 80s cover it was some minor cooling happening by the time we get to next weekend and hopefully maybe scrounge up a couple showers by the time we get there highs today, 71 San Francisco 77 for oakland, san jose at about 80 fair to warm as what were looking at one of the most of that theres some 80s in the far east bay you will notice up in the north bay, some 80s as well looking at upper 70s lining up the east bay shoreline again popping temperatures a little bit temporarily tomorrow before we get again moderation for much of the week ahead marty all right dave thanks a lot. Well as the wildfires continue to burn here in california all of that smoke is becoming a bigger problem and could have some Serious Health consequences. Kron 4 Sanaz Tahernia takes a look at the dangers of exposure and who is most at risk. Wildfire smoke is a growing component of air pollution and as weve seen over the last month its become a major component in the air quality here in the western United States 10 to 20 years ago about 5 to 10 of the particulate matter in the air nationwide was from wildfire smoke. In recent years the numbers increased to 25 . And when you look at the western part of the United States it can be 50 or more so question many of us are asking is how much should we be worrying about the short and longterm effects of the wildfire smoke that weve been seen. Experts say that while any amount of wildfire smoke inhalation is unhealthy for all age groups is particularly dangerous for pregnant women infants and children. You see weaker immune systems and higher rates of asthma in infants that are exposed to wildfire smoke studies show that even 5 days of wildfire exposure for an infant increases the rate of asthma by about 2 fold. It can even impact a babys health in the loan. There are high rates of prematurity and a decreased for 3. Even after just a week of wildfire exposure. There are certain 10th of the population and we dont know. To that degree by which theyre more sensitive than others but i would definitely say. Pregnant please be super careful. We dont know all the data but we do know that its dangerous to be outside please wear a mask when youre outside we really need to understand more about whats happening to pregnant moms and brought them to an all ages, but i would say to be super careful around those population studies are still being done at Stanford University to fully determine the Health Impacts of smoke exposure. Especially with regard to chronic versus acute exposure to pollution. Doctor nadeau says that the same changes in the immune systems of people chronically exposed to a low level pollution. Were very similar to those acutely exposed. She went on to say that the acute exposure could include irreversible effects. So you cant assume that you wont suffer serious consequences simply because air pollution may be bad for a few days here or there. Sue moss turn your reporting kron 4 news. The raiders looking to go to to start the season have to slow down the dangerous offense in the new Orleans Saints led by quarterback drew brees and receiver Michael Thomas who is battling an injury. The saints also have another big weapon in their arsenal, running back alvin kamara raiders defensive coordinator Paul Guenther thats a good name for defensive coordinator, he knows the explosive miss in the first fatality of kamara. This guys an explosive back a matter of fact i was at his work out when he was working out tennessee was underused guy in college and i saw him running i was like shes got to fly so he does a lot of things a lot like mccaffrey does you can go on the flank and run routes on a jet sweep, those type things obviously hes a dangerous guy in the backfield when he gets the ball. Coming up a little bit and try to take care of this bug were to marty okay lets new that thanks this. Well happening today, the flex treats program will begin in downtown oakland it will allow for Outdoor Dining. Also give more space for stores out on the sidewalk kron fours reyna harvey live in oakland with whats going to be a very big day today in downtown reyna. Marty this is good news. I mean its no secret business here in oakland has been declining a lot of businesses have had to either shut their doors for ever and lay off people so this is supposed to provide a little bit of relief for some of those businesses who are struggling out here in downtown actually saw them setting this up yesterday. So there were a lot of businesses in the downtown area that already set up a different locations or be able to go out there and even enjoy over the weekend. So basically with the flex program is joining its allowing businesses to set up shop right outside on the sidewalk and in those Parking Spaces right in front of the businesses well now for Business Owners who are interested in this all you have to do is apply with the city for this type of permit thats on their website were going to post a link to that on our website. But again the city has been looking for ways to try to encourage Business Owners to continue working hard especially during these times the business is also looking into private old parking lots as well as different structures across the city so Business Owners can have a little more leeway. We know that business in is really really gone down. We know that a lot of Business Owners out here have been struggling ive been able to talk to a lot of the Business Owners, many of them afraid theyre not going be able to open their doors again so the citys say with this flex program. What theyre doing is theyre streamlining the application process for businesses are also waiving fees so businesses can go ahead and apply so if youre watching this morning. You have a business out of oakland, and you want to apply we have a link to that on our website right now and kwon for and for people who are looking for ways to support local businesses. This is another way that people can do that some r d. I hopefully ill be able to go down there today to see what it looks like and how businesses are kind of streamline this whole process because again its a whole new challenge for the nafta take their business from indoors to outdoors and all those i d well, you know reyna one great thing thats on the side of restaurants and merchants in downtown oakland is going to be the weather its going to be nice and clear today just think about where you were last weekend dealing with the smoke. Today should be nice and oakland. Laurie is so nice to be able to Fresh Air School thats a its an incentive in and of itself if youre looking for a way to support local businesses around oakland, heres a way to do that morning. Yeah, yet yet one more thing that we use to take for granted things a lot of rain or rain harvey reporting for us in oakland this morning. Now we move to the south bay today where people in Santa Clara County can get some free flu shots this weekend. Its all part of a new effort to keep people safe from the flu during the pandemic now earlier this week, the Santa Clara CountyPublic Health department advised everyone to get their flu vaccinations in addition to taking steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus the flu shots will be given every saturday from 9 until 4 at the Santa Clara County fairgrounds. Some Health Officials suggest that the steps being taken to prevent the spread of covid19 such as Wearing Masks using Hand Sanitizer can also help protect us against the flu which is transmitted in similar ways. Doctors still stress of those precautions alone arent enough and the best that you can do is get a flu shot. Also it will avoid any confusion because the 2 illnesses do share some symptoms. You can have fever cough, sore shortness of breath. Muscle aches by and you will know you have the flu or do you have covid19 in actually got tested. And so if you get the flu shot. Theres less of a chance that you have the flu and so that at least helps decrease the chances, well get one of these 2 diseases. Well doctors say another reason to get the flu vaccine is to stay out of the hospital at a time when those beds might be needed for covid19 patients. A popup book covid19 testing site made his debut in east oakland yesterday, this is all part of an effort to increase trust in the black community for covid19 testing now free covid19 Antibody Testing for Antibody Testing for east oakland residents will take place today from 9 until 4 from this at the center of Hope Community church thats at 84th i avenue and macarthur. So thats really its kind of its showing up here in in with the americans as definitely so one of the things that we really want to focus on are what are some some coping strategies that you give us to help us all out here. Well in General Number one is acknowledged those sometimes people will tend to shed those feelings down when theyre feeling depressed or anxious, but its its good to acknowledge them because. And then that makes them real and then theyre more apt to okay knowledge them and then now i can accept the fact that there were some things that were at in my control and now i can move on to the next step which is taking things in control. Also on our screen we see now we should also embrace a oneday the time perspective tell us more about that place. A little that thats putting things in a you know taking life and putting it on pause and not looking way into the future, you know that the future is unforeseeable simple so it tends to make people very stressed out sometimes very pessimistic and looking at some of the worst Case Scenarios so just take one day at a time and then focus on whats happening in that day and enjoy like enjoy your families enjoying whats happening right now. So many times we have tendency to want to project whats into the future and of course thats unknowable and that creates so much more anxiety so i think the the thought of taking it one day at a time easy to say sometimes hard to do. Right right right. Also you know create moments of positive emotion. We tend to see you know we tend to think in the negative but this is where were going to create moments of positive emotion you know think about creating your own fun creating fun, maybe with your family playing games. Bringing happiness to others you know making a a new meal or new trying a new recipe with your family and our or feeling accomplished you know you have talked about you know going gardening in and health good that felt forced to be outside and also to be doing something that made you feel good and make you feel accomplished. But also creating joy in really to exercise the right thing as well. It also has tell and tell us that was seen on the screen here that that it increases something called a gallon. What is that in. Yes said thats an era transmitter and what they found is that this people that have low levels of gallon in have they have more Anxiety Disorders and experience more depression. So this study that was recently published was looking they did this on mice actually in they found that when mice were more the mice were more active, they put them in the cages with the little Spinning Wheel my slow to run and they found that their a gallon in levels went up and they were more stress resilience. I dont know that Everybody Knows what that really means that stressed resilient means youre out on a drive and all sending a deer crossed in front of you you. Geared out of the way youre very stressed thats a positive stress. But if you are the next time youre getting going into your car and you felt that same Evening Society over and over again that means youre not so resilient. Youre going back to. Those old old old stress and is letting you letting it empower you. Karen those are great tips. Thank you so much one thing i wanted to add to was just maybe a therapy pet that is helping people out so much karen. Thank you so much well see you next weekend. All right by. Good morning, everybody welcome back and were talking weather now in the day this is the official weekend of summer. Yeah, it is a customers creeper summer on this creeping up on us here in the next couple of days actually by tuesday, it looks like and we have temperatures that are respond according to that we have a little last with some warming going on tomorrow, its been planned for live shot coming from temper on golden gate, maybe its covered up just a little bit off to the distance there. Sfo, no delays happening this morning. But a little bit the way the touch of fog to get things going 60s cover a lot of the east bay 50s up to the north bay 60 San Francisco in 63, san jose so for today temperatures not too bad, but warming up a touch tomorrow, thanks to this big High Pressure zone, not here. Give it maybe a day in the sun if you will and then temperatures start to retreat a little bit as we get into next week a pretty mild forecast expected next week with some cooling toward weeks and just monitoring the moisture levels here it mixes out nicely for today by the afternoon that is it comes back again for tomorrow morning. But probably will mix up more quickly than what were seeing today is not a whole lot of moisture out to sea there and which to negotiate with so heres what were talking about here morning fog. And clouds around the east bay shoreline, particularly but as weve been noting from this morning then clearing a little quicker than we noticed mild temperatures to a 70s 80s pretty much the drill. Tomorrow were going to have some 90s going on there in some of the inland valleys poking out there quicker morning clearing with this fog and cloud cover business and then next week looks like to be sunny and mild with temperatures holding in when and the 80s for the most part and then by next week and we have a little bit of a cool down coming with a new system up in the northwest there for highs today, 71 San Francisco oakland 7780 meanwhile for san eose. Their 80s in the 40s bay 80s up to the north bay to with upper 70s, lining up the east bay shoreline coming up in a bit well take a look at that extended forecast and your 4 zone as well marty all right dave thanks a lot back to the news this morning, the wildfires continue to burn in california. And all the smoke is becoming a bigger problem and could have Serious Health consequences. Kron 4 Sanaz Tahernia takes a look at the dangers of exposure to spoke. And whos most at risk. You can even impact a babys health in the their high rates of prematurity and a decreased for 3. Even after just a week of wildfire exposure. There are certain 10th of the population and we dont know. To that degree by which theyre more sensitive than others but i would definitely say pregnant mom please be super careful. The saints also have another big weapon in their arsenal, running back alvin kamara raiders defensive coordinator Paul Guenther thats a good name for defensive coordinator, he knows the explosive miss and the versatility of kamara. All right dave thanks a lot. Well, the death of Justice Ginsburg has Many Political implications. So close to the president ial election President Trumps appointment of federal judges, Supreme Court justices is a big factor in his support from evangelicals. President trump made his view clear in a tweet this morning saying quote we were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United StatesSupreme Court justices we have this obligation without delay end quote, democrats of course are outraged that any republicans thinking about replacing Justice Ginsburg already not only because it was her deathbed wish for her replacement not to be named until after the election. But of course what happened to judge Merrick Garland back in 2016 when republicans refused for 11 months to give president obama Supreme Court nominee, a hearing saying that so close to a president ial election. They should wait and let Voters Decide. The American People should have a say in the courts direction. Give the people a voice in filling. Just like that. Despite that feeling in 2016 senator mcconnell said last night that the senate will be voting on the president s nominee to replace Justice Ginsburg should he put one up saying that this case is different 2016. Because now the senate and presidency are both controlled by the same party. But democrats are hoping the past comments will work to delay any nomination with more on that here senator senator Lindsey Graham from 2018. Tell you this. This may make you feel better, but i really dont care. If. Opening comes in the last year of President Trumps term. And the primary process has started. Well wait to the next election. And ive got a pretty good chance be in the record yeah all right. All of well the president released his short list of Supreme Court nominees just last week but has not said who would be at the top of that list. Well have more on that coming up throughout the morning, the oil and other news this morning happening today the flex Streets Program will begin in downtown oakland. Later today, its going to allow Outdoor Dining and also promote merchan space on sidewalks and its more on that a red letter day for a lot of restaurants in downtown oakland. Reyna. Marty its been hard for a lot of these businesses just to survive and its been difficult seen a lot of businesses that i grew up saying i have to close their doors for ever so look the city and a local nonprofit are both trying to find ways to help people this flex Program Allows businesses to operate outdoors they can use the sidewalks pays they can also use the parking area right in front of their business. But i actually talked to this nonprofit, theyre called the Uptown Downtown Oakland Community benefit district and theyve added more streets to this like Program Actually sent me these photos, youre looking at on your screen. This was last night and you can see marty a lot of people came out now the new streets or an old oakland weve got 16 in telegraph. And webster at grand those are the 3 flex street areas. This nonprofit is responsible for starting now in addition to allowing them to use parking lanes and some roadways and sidewalks the program also weighs fees and streamlines permits as well. Now the goal is tell all these businesses during this economic hardship. The city also has flex locations as and you can apply for those if youre a Business Owner and youre seeing other businesses set up shop and youd like to do so as well and the link online we have that on our website kron 4. So again marty you see a lot of people are going out. The goal is to continue opening spaces like this because it seems like its very successful people are coming out supporting businesses and then people are able to survive and provide more services but there also is always the challenge and a Business Owner faces during their entire business outdoors to offer these services so mardy in the coming weeks, well be talking to more Business Owners are going to see just how the program pans out for for now reporting here in oakland raider harvey climb well based on last night it looks like its off to a great see that everybody is out there it looks like practicing social distancing in, but you know Wearing Masks when theyre not eating so it looks safe and maybe well all have to go. And check it out at some point learning all right dana, thanks a lot for that live report from oakland. Well still ahead this morning Supreme CourtJustice Ruth Bader ginsburg considered a towering woman rights womens rights champion, who became the courts second female justice she died yesterday at her home in washington dc at the age of 87. Well have more on the life and legacy she left behind and well be talking to the political him about the political impact of her death with our analyst michael yaki good morning welcome back we want to get a little bit more perspective on the political fallout and the implications of Justice Ginsburgs death as well as or impact on the Political Landscape as we move forward, so were joined live this morning meyer calling for political analyst michael yaki michael good morning. Thanks a lot for joining us this morning now what is marty what is the impact that Justice Ginsburgs death could have on the president ial election. Well first i just want to express in fact the fact im heartbroken over the fact that she passed as someone who agrees devoted a large amount of his life civil rights, including being a being on the u. S. Commission on civil rights, her legacy, the work that she did in laying the groundwork in breaking the Glass Ceiling and an end and unwinding gender roles in this country is something that we all take for granted today. But its all because of the work that she did. But to your point. We now have a very interesting situation. With regard to to vote the Supreme Court and the president ial election and he saw that today. The president signaled he was going to move quickly. Last night, mitch Mitch Mcconnell. In the one of the most amazing displays of political helping to block a c ive ever seen said that he would give a vote to it to the president s nominee on the floor of the senate. This despite the fact that 4 years ago, he refused to give vote for 10 months. Merrick garland who was nominated by of president barack obama in the in the late winter early spring. A 2016 so because he said the outgoing president. Should be allowed to make the point that the new president should and heres the situation you have an election which comes is going to afford. Now theyre lot of permutations now this may or may not affect the election and we can talk about that. I would expect that the joe biden campaigns already working on a commercial using mitch quotes from 4 years ago and from yesterday. I would i would imagine, but i think its its it comes at a 2, 2 things one. Does this have a political benefit for trump, right now i actually think it does anything that takes away from the pandemic is a good thing for him and this sort of fits into his culture war idea because when you went because this is this could be the death knell for roe versus wade. If you put these if he put the 6 conservative on the bench. Justice roberts can play the middle you can swing over and be the moderating force. Its its the majoritys report on conclusion so thats going to be really important and that can animate some of his base could also enemy a lot of the democrats too. But. You know depending who you nominate lgbtq rights could be at risk. A lot of a civil rights voting protections which have been under assault and under attack and of course the big case and coming up the week after the election in his report is obamacare right and and how that with so these are all things that go into the equation. How people think about it and the question of the timing is going to be whether or not you do it before the election does that helped her about you which after the election doesnt help Mitch Mcconnells incumbents who are really many of whom are on the edge and they could lose controlled senate that helped them out. Michael there are a lot of moving parts in this and obviously we are less than 24 hours since we learned of the death of Justice Ginsburg, but lets lets look ahead to some of the potential the president just released a list about 10 days ago of a long list of potential candidates who do you think stands out as a potential nominee. Well the things that i dont know if any of them really particularly stand out just i look at it, theyre all cut from the same cloth. Youre just youre just going to have to find out who it is and do the vetting process and thats kind of how why it seems unlikely that they would have a vote before the election, the average confirmation time really extends well beyond the days we have left before the election. So they were to rush that would rush the hole process and vetting process that goes on and thats what really needs to happen because whoever is nominated theyre going to have to after the record examined and have hearings and questions and i you know i think its going to pull a duty for the election because some of the members on Judiciary Committee are up for reelection right at some of them are vulnerable republicans and and like i said theres that be the immense hypocrisy at work here. Thats Mitch Mcconnell would denied Merrick Garland even the hearing because there is no there was election is something that some of these senators like Susan Collins. Lisa murkowski vulnerable incumbents like cory gardner. You have joni ernst you have of course mitt romney all he has to do is lose 3 of those and he doesnt have the votes to move forward and saying that youre a vote on the floor. This necessarily mean a vote to could be a procedural vote in which the nomination does not go forward that could happen as well so there. A lot of balls in the air this could be a lot of interest but i think. The benefit for trump is that it takes the public eye off of the pandemic because the pandemic is. What joe biden bank is banking on to when this election that the presence like this management. Confidence the 200,200 1000 dead. The fact that we that were still not testing. That could only you know privilege people or if youre at sports. If youre a sports team youre going to get in on a college campus. These kinds of things are really rankling people but if theyre diverted which trump would like to see happen in this is like a. The president a president and like fortunately. This is something hes going to try to exploit between now and november. It is going to make a very interesting topic on the debate between biden and President Trump thats coming up because this is now certainly going to take center stage the other big topics. And you know whats interesting is are there going up by saying well by wheres your list of appointments for first of all. Until trump i decided to quit that list out as a marketing device. No us president has ever put out a list of who they think they want to do they are being made every list that they have an email vet them but they dont put out some like pre pre certified list of folks who who will meet their criteria because it just makes it easy for people to figure out which direction theyre going and clearly in the direction of of of dont trump its too pack the court with more right wing ideologues people who are not even conservative or 9 republican the kind of go beyond that i think that there i still republican friends. I dont feel very republican right now, but the folks that they want to put on and people who dont believe g b t q rights who want to reverse roe versus wade, who dont believe the government has any role and the stepson programs like obamacare this is the kind of mentality thats going on and this is an important debate now. Well this enemy. Democrats i think it could i think it played well, it could so it may be neutralized trumps advantage there. But again the more that this is not about the pandemic and the chaos and the deaths that trump is cause. The better it is for him in terms of what kind of electoral ground. Hes standing on between now and over the 3rd. It is going to be fascinating michael thank you so much for joining us this morning and then providing your insights into the political ramifications are of Justice Ginsburgs passing thank its my 2 05 everymatchcounts migraine medicine. Ok marty some of the current temperatures we have going around here mostly in the 60s we have 55 at the santa rosa, the projections going on later today, 77 by one. 82 at 4 well be a little warmer tomorrow check of your forecast coming up in a bit cross on morning news. Good morning. Welcome back to the kron 4 morning news time to check in with dave. Dave theres a spare the air alert. Yeah were looking at today 2 in the far east bay and up in the north a little bit good morning guys, good morning, everyone and the fog is clearing out pretty quickly for us the shot from timber on almost all blue skies just a little bit of haze, lingering around the golden gate sfo. This is what it looks like here. No delays going on we had a little bit of touch of that fog this morning most readings in the 60s, although any are reaching for 71 up to the north bay mostly in the 60s 55 for santa rosa, 61 covering San Francisco, 65 for san jose. So High Pressure is going to park again in around the area, but it could be a oneday stance will see a little warmer temperatures in place for tomorrow than today. But on balance will a pretty nice after this fog kind of lifts off a little bit in breezy in some areas hope that mixing will happen also berkeley. So take care of some leftover smoke hopefully so we got the morning fog at the coast and the east bay shoreline with all of that but mild with temperatures in the 70s and 80s and tomorrow we spike that up to a couple 90s checking in here mostly will be the 80s going on a touch warmer in those inland valleys, it looks like with a quicker morning. Clearing and then for much of the week someone on the bed full sunny and mild well, those temperatures holding in the 80s felt far inland. But then a drop is expected into next weekend as a new system promises to cool us off just a touch and maybe if were lucky scrounge up a couple raindrops the north bay 71 San Francisco, open 7780 to check in for san jose, but we do see some middle 80s in the far east bay for today also up in the north bay, so theyre still out there. And were place this was some lower 90s it looks like for tomorrow for one day. Coming up in a bit well be checking in to the 4 zone forecast that you know its going all of that and the extended to we also are Tropical Storm in the gulf marty sounds good dave. Thank you. Well as wildfires continue to burn here in california along the west coast. All that smoke is becoming a bigger problem and could have Serious Health consequences. Kron 4 Sanaz Tahernia takes a look now at the dangers of exposure and who is most at risk. There are high rates of prematurity and a decreased birth rate even after just a week of wildfire exposure. There are certain 10th of the population and we dont know. To that degree by which theyre more sensitive than others but i would definitely say. Pregnant please be super careful. We dont know all the data but we do know that its dangerous to be outside please wear a mask when youre outside we really need to understand more about whats happening to pregnant moms as well them to an all ages, but i would say to be super careful around those population studies are still being done at Stanford University to fully determine the Health Impacts of smoke exposure. The saints also have another big weapon in their arsenal, running back alvin kamara raiders defensive coordinator Paul Guenther thats a good name for defensive coordinator, he knows the explosive miss and the versatility of kamara. This guys an explosive back a matter of fact i was at his work out when he was working out tennessee was underused guy in college and i saw him running i was like shes got to fly so he does a lot of things a lot like mccaffrey does you can go on the flank and run routes on a jet sweep, those type of things obviously hes a dangerous guy in the backfield when he gets the ball. Coming up a little bit again while the 4 zone forecast for you and the extended well mardy. All right, thanks dave. Meanwhile, the death of Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg has a lot of political implications so close to the president ial election President Trumps appointment of federal judges, especially Supreme Court justices is a big factor in his support from evangelicals. The president made his view clear in a tweet this morning saying quote we were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly a lot to this the most important of which has long been considered long been considered to be the selection of united support United StatesSupreme Court justices we have this obligation without delay and quote. But democrats are outraged that any republican is thinking about replacing ginsburg already not only because it was her deathbed wish for her replacement not to be named until after the election. And also because of what happened the judge Merrick Garland back in 2016 when republicans refused for 11 months to give president obama Supreme Court nominee, a hearing saying that it was so close to a president ial election. They should wait and let Voters Decide in step. The American People should have a say in the courts direction. Give the people a voice in filling. Just like that. Now despite feeling that way in 2016 senator Mitch Mcconnell has already said the senate will vote on the president s nominee to replace ginsburg should he put one up saying this case is different to 2016 because than because now the senate and presidency are controlled by the same party. But democrats are hoping the republicans past comments will work to delay any nomination. Heres senator Lindsey Graham in 2018. Now tell you this. This may make you feel better, but i really dont care. If. Opening comes in the last year of President Trumps term. And the primary process has started. Well wait to the next election. And ive got a pretty good chance. The been the record yeah, all right. All of well the president releases short list of Supreme Court nominees just last week, but he has not said who would be at the top of that list. Last hour we talked to michael yaki about how democrats are approaching the political fallout of Justice Ginsburgs death so this hour we want to get the republican perspective thats right to do that were joined live this morning by our kron 4 political analyst Tom Del Beccaro good morning tom. Well don the nation is of course morning Justice Ginsburg loss. And things have shifted pretty immediately as we were just kind of running down to what does this mean for the upcoming election. What does this mean for filling her seat. What is your take on the river a lot of the republicans now kind of going back on what they had said back in 2016. First i want to say she was no ordinary Thurgood Marshall over time and she took on a role much larger than any single vote. And the Supreme Court has grown in significance as government rose to power the Supreme Court is going its decision obamacare decided where hundreds of billions of dollars. We go. So it makes no its not a surprise to me that both of the parties want to make this choice the republicans feel like look name may not be able to make this choice in january, so they want to make it now and because the Supreme Courts so important you know willie some will have will to end up changing their views mcconnells county consistent. He actually said back then and both parties have that has been seen and he said its located to do that is if they dont they should wait, but i can understand the logic and the were 15 days away. Why dont she weighs. Tom what impact do you think this decision will have on the president ial election. Well i think the democrats kim said for years that democrats care more about we better get breaks faith in the employment rate and what i mean by that is the democrats will lie on the courts for what they termed to be getting its proper social justice thats who weve been in use for watts and so this is a really big deal on the left and it provides them in my view with the motivation that theyre missing with joe biden and this this will mean i i think the democrats on the other hand i think youd be done is correct that the that for many on the writing community then jello calls the makeup of the Court Matters so. Is it 2020 needed something were to be intense it brings up. How people are viewing the selection even higher. Well we have a really tight court right now center of the court has moved to the right and if the president is able to put someone in that seat thats kind of a solid right so you write this really has a huge impact on on what the future will be yes so right now the court in my view stanley balance. And except for with the absence now rbg you have you have to for concerted you have roberts is taking the role of kennedy and you used to have those 4 justices to replace one could mean that you would have 5 conservatives and then 3 but there are those that are older on the court i always hesitate to to talk about this who may not be there for that long 2 to one conservative. It was talked about her been worried about retirement and and so yes it did this is a very different situation than most of the time because this could cement ake a conservative majority for a long time, especially when you consider that its probably going to come down to 3 different women judge gary jensen go up and or judge larson both are in their early 50s and they could be there for 30 years. Tom do you think that the vote will be held before the election or in the 2 months between the election and the inauguration. You know that is not some question john adams lost his reelection bid and then in that one month later. He completely changed the federal is completely can change the judiciary change to any tactic with a bunch of judges to stop jefferson. So us the right question keep in mind Sandra Day Oconnor was was confirmed, i think around 33 days while thats longer than there is to the election. Dont think anyone truly knows the answer to last republicans and lest trump nominates monday or tuesday, and you know hes hes had his list out for a while so they did that its was not going to be a big and then the republicans would have to move really quickly and commentators like me and circus what would happen in a field day with all thats going on and oh by the way theres an election theres so much going on i do want to. Ask you you know kind of a breakdown the math for us because obviously. Koski senator murkowski from alaska has already said she will not she said fair is fair in her tweet last night there is talk that mitt romney may be on that kind of side as well. If were breaking down the math are there other republican senators trump should be worried about. Well i im not sure its just something needs to be the one that that matters the most is actually a Susan Collins from maine, shes always in the most difficult to see shes a very thoughtful person shes very moderate. It shes not shes the opposite of mitt romney she actually believes in what shes saying mitt romney is just an opportunist so you you can imagine romney coming off the board you can imagine her coming off the board and then its potentially 5149. What is 50 to 50 with Vice President pence being able to make the vote except there is joe johns in alabama who is running for reelection very difficult seat for him to retain if he voted against the nominee, especially if its like a judge look governor who is the first hispanic on florida Supreme Court and that could present a problem for democrats all together you can wind up with with jones breaking with the democrats and so in the more we saw it on television stay tuned. Definitely. Lets talk for a second about the potential makeup of the new Supreme Court and some of the major issues. The high court could be deciding upon. Well lets go back to obama care which you know decide what every side youre on keep in mind that the Supreme Court decision meant that money with hundreds of billions was flowing in one direction another. And the Trump Administration has filed a nother. The challenge to that and that would be decided next year and i think it would go in off the sea. Direxion and not good for season back in the congress and they would have to actually do their job by the congress to do their job. The last time around and 6 is a choice to get on the court and then of course theres always the Second Amendment issues the last 40 years the Second Amendment is never far away and then of course theres the issue up. We still left cares about which is the issue of abortion choice depending on which side of the aisle youre on and keep in mind about that though that i think robinson cab know would not vote to overturn roe v wade. Interesting well tom this is fascinating and we live in fast and the times right now and and it really has ratcheted up in the last 24 hours. Thank you so much for jo and a good saturday morning to you welcome back everybody lets go ahead and check out the forecast for the weekend a spark a day marty good morning and good morning, look at the blue skies out there. Yeah weve taken care a lot of the fog here just a little bit of haze going on just kind of left over still got that spare the air day going on in the far east bay in the north bay and that looks to be just today getting everybody back in the yellows Going Forward that should be the moderate category after today, the thinking is stay tuned as a polite shot here, no delays going on here traffic continues as youll notice and a little bit in the way of some haze left over here as well how those temperatures mostly 60s in the east bay also to the north bay to 58 cool degrees for santa rosa warm 71 antioch 65 meanwhile for san jose and 64 San Francisco, the gulf of mexico is now hosting a beta this is this latest tropical system a Tropical Storm that were talking about a lot of rain associate with that being pushed up towards the northeast thats going to be a big issue with this storm, max winds are clocked at about 60 without expected to become a hurricane ever. So briefly air and then back to Tropical Storm strength here. The big issue will be locally Severe Weather in because its moving slowly, well get a lot of storm surge here right probably at the coast, but also heavy rains will follow it so expect more flooding down that way back to the west coast, somewhat uneventful next couple of days, well have some rappelling going on complements a High Pressure then ultimately of his big blow up here in the north. It will throw us a couple little waves kind of reminiscent of what weve already experienced there maybe reduction in temperatures. Little strengthening that marine layer but as far as seeing any rain from it now does that little slight possibility, but dont wait up for it and why head on to the weekend a little cooler than weve experienced upper 80s for much of the Central Valley today, 71, San Francisco, an 87 san diego 69 coming in for big bear 4 zone forecast for your saturday 71 San Francisco got the upper 60s lining up the coast to the bayside 70s lower to middle 70s burning game at 74. Weve got some lower 80s at work youre heading down south palo alto redwood city, 78 for Mountain View and in Santa Clara Valley about 80 ish well call it although favoring a little on the warmer side of that 83. For morgan hill 82 los gatos east bay shoreline to the south staying in the 70s territory, mid to upper 70s. Another decade to that for tri valley looks like sunil comes in about 8183 for dublin. 86 for walnut creek, some of these spots like concord for example, youre aiming for a 90 tomorrow, 77 san leandro berkeley at 72 also in Solano County here these may reach 2. 90 potentially tomorrow. Somebody southern valais whoa and nap at 8586 santa rosa got the 80s heading down south with a 78 noe valley so temperatures pop tomorrow and then we slide back down south again temperature wise as we finish off the week, it looks like an a little cool pattern as we get into the weekend all in q with fall getting in here are done well not sure is all right. Thank you dave. Well happening today the flex Streets Program will begin in downtown oakland. Thats right. An inside the park, its all part of the citys slow Streets Program was created because of the coronavirus pandemic so now its possible for walkers and bikers to go from the panhandle on the east side of Golden Gate Park all the way out to ocean beach and they can do it basically in the middle of the road because theres no cause now theyre still arent it might be some traffic but for the most part. You can use the middle of the road all the way across the park, San Francisco parks and Rec Department says its seen a dramatic increase in the number of people whove been using the park in this way and they admit it is causing a disruption for cars and drivers in the area, but the Department Says most of the cars before the pandemic were in the part just to pass on through maybe take a short cut and they were even stopping there. 8 and a half. Of every 10 vehicles that were in this park were in this park to get someplace else. And that is not what a park is about. Well these road closures including the slow street road closures around San Francisco keep in mind there just temporary and the probably be removed when the Emergency Declaration expires.
