From the Sierra Nevada to obviously yep still very hazy the east bay this morning that shot there from walnut creek and use of the smoke map a second ago this just reinforcing it that deep maroon show you how poor air quality is across the region. Winds, not present enough to be forcing that widespread haze out of the reason region and we still do have plenty of smoke imbedded in the fog just offshore which as it moves in across the bay is still impacting us with some fog and some smoke, fresh smoke being pushed in from the pacific. So not your ideal way to start off this monday morning, although i guess on a little bit of a positive note. Air quality is better than it was over the weekend. 50s and 60s for current temperatures later today, well be looking at some comfortable weather as well, not a big chance, a good chance to step outside and enjoy these comfortable temperatures as skies remain hazy into the afternoon. But at least daytime highs only in the 60s 70s, 80s. Thats your forecast ill send it over to rob and shes got an updated look at traffic for us i do indeed thank you john lets start off with a bridge checks challis taking a look at your commute across the bay area bridges. Not so bad were starting off with the Richmond Sandra fell which is picking up just a little bit so every time we check and we have more more traffic rolling from the east bay to the north bay but no big problems were at 7 minutes off to one oh one here at the bay bridge 80 wesson to San Francisco your backup getting heavier i see some flashing lights there rolling into the parking lot so maybe some new activity going on thats like maybe a fire truck. There were no reports of anything blocking just yet. Ill keep my eyes on it, but it is stacked up just the overcrossing and a late night crash of the activity has spilled over into this mornings commute if you travel between fremont and sunil 84, which is niles canyon remains closed between mission thats on the fremont side and 6 ad on the civil side that crash there causing some slowing in both directions. Its really the damage to a power pole thats a concern so they have pg and e on scene checking it out ill have more details coming up a little bit later darya james thanks a lot rob. And the top story, lets get back to the smoky bad air its all over the bay again this and kron fours will tran probably in one of the worst areas out in concord will john was talking about how we got a lot of smoke in the Central Valley that seems to be filtering in. In 2 places like the east bay up where you are. Absolutely to give lottery numbers because hes been winning every day with all these great predictions, absolutely and a little bit different than previous days, james, and area we can smell smoke, i didnt smell smoke. Last week but i can certainly smell smoke this morning want to quickly show you the conditions and we will get a clearer picture. Once the sun comes up and you can see the haze it start right now, but you might be able to make out often the distance, the haze makes with the fog a little bit different this morning awful james darya i want to draw your attention with the end of the road to receive fair, but you could see just some of the flags to the orange flag, this construction crew. How windy it is so thats a little bit of good news that maybe is starting to circulate the smoke in get it out of here want to show you a map though this is what its like in the meantime you can see. Its unhealthy to very unhealthy and it looks like its going to be like that for the next several days you got to be careful out there. Yes, we do know there are some pockets where there might be some healthier but. Upon further review guys it looks like some of those sensors if you are seeing healthier in certain locations they could be sensors within buildings or in certain areas that have a pocket but by and large it is unhealthy all over the bay area and it was like that over the weekend as well a lot of people did go outside but they did wear their masks and a lot of people like me we stayed inside my children and i stayed inside for the most part stepped outside on saturday night and i couldnt believe that james and area i think we could have gotten cleaner, healthier air. We walked into a coal mine it was awful on saturday, maybe a little bit better on sunday better today so it looks like were trending in the right direction, but the bottom line is ive never been more envious of you james being inside with that nice recirculated air back you as funny well as we actually have a lot of the doors open because of covid nobody wants to touch door handfuls. So were still getting. Some outside air circulating through family youre fine just cant all right now we cant because the wildfires are bad nearly 17,000 firefighters across california. Working now to contain. 29 major fires that are burning in our state right now so for more than 3 million acres have burned in this fire season and its early and at least 35 people have been killed from california to washington state. Dozens of wildfires have torn through neighborhoods, leaving nothing but rubble and burned out cars. 10s of thousands of people have had to evacuate. Well here in the bay area, lets get you updated again on the latest with our 3 major complex fires that are burning beginning with the lnu complex fires up in the north bay, its now 96 contained the size still staying steady at 363,000 acres burned the scu complex fires in the east and south bays now 98 contained and that fire still being held below 400,000 acres. The czu complex fires in the san mateo and santa cruz areas. About 89 contained now so again some progress slow but steady but theyre making progress and then lastly the woodward fire up in the north bay in marin county out of Point Reyes National seashore its now 95 contained as well with the size of the fire still being held below 5,000 acres in total. The creek fire burning in fresno and madera counties has tripled in size. It is now more than 2000 acres and its only 10 contained. Yeah the doris path with our sister station kstu has the very latest on the firefighting efforts. This new map showing the growth of the fire since it started a week ago the dark green, the initial fire the likely in the first 2 days of growth the yellow light orange the 3rd and 4th days in the orange representing last thursday and friday our firefighters working hard every single day and through the night get with the fire continuing to grow the number of structures threatened jumping from around 5,000 on friday to now for 14,000 with low visibility little opportunity for water or retardant drops is where that the smoke has been. Lane in staying in the area and with aircraft it has not been able to go up in alaska, good news around 800 firefighters from all over including texas coming to help the priority saving as many homes and businesses as possible is to make sure that those areas are. We call mopped up making sure that the heat is cool down. Concern and priority that we do is we make sure that if theres areas that are threatened and the fire has not gotten to is that we prevent the fire from going there with creating a dozer line handling construction and using the different firefighting tactics since the beginning of the fire there have been around 400 structures that have been destroyed or damaged time theres fab in fresno. Dow businesses in San Francisco get to reopen indoors today Gyms Fitness Centers hair and nail salon yesterday and many of them have been waiting for for a long time of course it will be when you go inside kron 4 Sarah Stinson is in San Francisco with the very latest on the story for weeks and weeks isnt watching everybody else open, but them. I know its been half a year put that in perspective that people have not been able to go inside their gym live here on union street let me pan over so you can see theyve just opened up here before the doors even opened there were 5 people waiting in line they all told me they are so excited to be back. I tried to interview all of them and they said you know what its a little too early for me to talk to you let me get the blood pumping for the first time in half a year they have 2 employees here and then 22 total people could be inside working out they have a ton of protocols and im just seeing from the outside of course you have to wear a mask and then also you have get your temperature checked they gave you a list of protocols before you even walk in the door so a lot of precautions being taken. Its a big big day for San Francisco take a look at your screen you can see all of the businesses that can now reopen with limited capacity 10 capacity. Hair and nail salons barbershops tattoo parlors a Family Entertainment centers like go karting and many gulf stuff like that. The city is providing free ppe and Hand Sanitizer for some of these Small Businesses looking to reopen gym owners have been fighting for this day for months, its been a devastating time for them financially. Business owners not making a single dime trying to trying to get creative having outdoor classes. Some gyms are doing reservations of course because spots are extremely limited of course, as i said fast face masks are required social distancing protocols are put in place a lot of signage a lot placements for people to where they can walk where they cant lock we actually caught up with the owner of fit bernal fit they told us what theyre doing to be safe. They said they can only allow 3 people in at a time because gyms are already small then 10 capacity, but they said this is one step in the right direction. Its been a long and its been a challenging road. But weve been fortunate to make it this far and we hope that we have a game plan for Indoor Services as well as outdoor services. And so thats going to be really crucial for these businesses to reopen even at 10 capacity, it is a step in the right direction, however, the city is warning people that if numbers go up again things could change so its important that we all continue to follow the rules and wearing face masks and keeping our distance being as safe as possible as we head back to what seems like some kind of normalcy after months, im not having any of these services will be live this morning showing you what its like heading back to the gym. All i know for sure is that each member told me they are so excited to get back inside. Im live in San FranciscoSarah Stinson kron 4 news, thanks. A lot sarah. Yeah, no doubt about that. While San Francisco is one of 3 bay area counties that were given the green light to move further along the reopening process. We have a map here we can show you which illustrates the current reopening tears for each of a bay area county purple is indicates case rates and positivity test rates that are still too high to reopen for indoor for a lot of facilities red is for counties with substantial covid19 problems and then thats followed by orange and then green and in order to move into a higher tier county must reported no more then 7 cases per 100,000 people for at least 2 weeks. We are tracking our local numbers when it comes to coronavirus and so far the state has recorded more than 762,000 cases with more than 14,000 deaths and across the bay area. More than 90,000 cases reported now with more than 1200 deaths from covid19. 6. 12 and still ahead on the kron 4 morning news on monday morning bart is changing the schedules around starting today will tell you why and what to expect. Plus President Trump is going to be visiting california. Checking out the wildfire devastation. Well have details on his trip. And satellite imagery from over the weekend still showing plenty of smoke across the bay that lighter stuff offshore being the marine layer that also has smoking better than that im talking improvements though in your forecast ahead. And your morning commute continues to pick up around the bay area were checking out the bay bridge toll plaza where its already packed on a look at the line and into San Francisco, make sure you get cups, plates, burgers, chips. Masks, outdoor air, 6 feet of distance, as few people as possible, and plenty of hand soap. Make sure lowering the risk of spreading covid19 is on your list for your next small gathering. Do your part to lower the risk. Dean and today President Trump visits california for a briefing on our states wildfires will be in sacramento later this morning we have Karma Dickerson with our sister station ktxl live with the latest on what well expect with the president s arrival today karma. Good morning. The president scheduled to touch down here Mcclellan Air force base said just before 11 oclock this morning and from here hes only going to be here about 2 hours but does have a pretty full schedule first its going to go into a briefing to discuss the ongoing wildfire emergency here to be touching down also discussing it with governor Gavin Newsome and from there he is going to be participating in a ceremony thats going to be honoring the National Guard in california then taking off so just about 2 hours on the ground a lot of eyes are going to be on the president interaction with the governor because as we know while they have remained cordial even complimentary when it comes to issues like Coronavirus Response when it comes to wildfires are often talking about a different situation depending on when you catch that you are what you specifically asked them they will have differing even sharp opinions about who was responsible or whose action or inaction leads to the consistent emergencies we see with wildfires across california last night President Trump held a rally in las vegas and did briefly mention the wildfire situation take a listen. Also praying for everyone throughout the west. Affected by the devastating wildfires. Really Forest Management. We want Forest Management my administration. Is closely coordinating with the state and local leaders with the governor and we thank the more than 28,000 firefighters and First Responders courageously braving the danger to life. The new some agrees force management is important and back last month california and the federal government agreed to come together for wildfire prevention managing 1 million acres of california land a year nevertheless the new some does stress that this is a Climate Emergency and urgent the federal government to do more with that respect he says this is simply something thats not going to be resolved without addressing the Climate Crisis so the 2 men are going to be meeting up today here at Mcclellan Air force base again that meeting getting under way and right around 11 oclock and from here the governor sees me the president rather heads to phoenix reporting from mcclellan in sacramento, Karma Dickerson kron 4 okay karma thank you very much for the update will visit with you again next hour. Thank you. All right in the meantime were looking at all of the smoke and the effects of the wildfires around the bay and you can see here walnut creek shows you that its going to be another hes e smoggy full of coughs and sneezes and Everything Else to have john in the Weather Center with hopefully some good news about the horizon, what you see john we have some new found respite my voice, but didnt have before. But yes with smoke from so many sources being wildfires in oregon back here at home in the Sierra Nevada. We are seeing more than just one shift in wind direction it will take to finally clear all the haze out this has been persistent obviously and stayed with us. Negative way through the weekend with those very pour conditions, were waking up to more of that this morning you can see you see the poor air quality in San Francisco mixed in with some fog that has worked its way for in from the coast really not a major improvement in their quality, although slightly better than where we were on friday and saturday so weve worked our way in a positive direction and were going to continue to see moderate improvements day to day in this forecast ahead of us, lets expand this improvements first of all we are lot of that smoke from oregon and Northern California now cut off from reaching the bay. So low pressure general flow of air is pushing all that smoke out into the Rocky Mountain west and out of california at least back here at home we still have fires burning in the Sierra Nevada and a lot of that smoke is bunched up right on the western front of the Sierra Nevada, some of its still making its way out to the bay though, so we still do have new smoke being reintroduced not just from our fires in the sierra but also from the smoke that has settled down in the pacific over the course of the past week. When we do see a light on shore flow like we are this morning any sort of fog also has smoke imbedded in it which is also making its way inland. So not a whole lot of major improvements just yet. But there are some on the horizon, especially come thursday and friday as we see a big weather switch up just around the corner as for today at least were not dealing dealing with any excessive heat or anything like that. Your daytime highs today will be comfortable in the 60s and 70s for bayside areas. 80s back 4 or more inland spots like pleasanton dublin and livermore shell be a 80 to 83 degrees temperatures in berkeley and richmond in the 60s while oakland at 71 some 70s in vallejo napa and benicia while vacaville in antioch in the mid 80s today. Santa rosa through mill valley all in the 70s. Okay, so lets get to those good changes that are just around the corner after today and tomorrow is less than ideal conditions youll start to notice the moderate improvements further on into wednesday. Now thursday we have a weak system thats going to be pushing on into the bay area. This is eventually going to result in even the possibility of a couple of coastal in north bay showers by friday which will really help the smoky conditions. This system in general enough to be pushing through and helping to sweep out some of that bad air and just in time to be ahead of next weekend. So its going to be slow improvements over the next few days. But there is the sign of a light at the end of the tunnel now that is your forecast robin is standing by with the latest look at our but hey there john lets check in on the morning commute heading into San Francisco. Its looking pretty good, although we do have some crowding here at the bay bridge toll plaza, its so quiet so you dont have to worry about any hot spots crashes or stalls making your way into San Francisco this morning. 11 minutes for your drive time and that is considered a really good drive time with no big trouble spot alright off to the golden gate. Were checking in on one oh one folks have been behaving here so 19 minutes into San Francisco. And we still have a problem left over from last night 84 niles canyon closed in both directions between mission and soon all spg work on some repair work from a major crash let you know in the habit back open highway force recovering from an earlier accident 20 minutes antioch to concord but youre looking good on south 6. 80 the southbound nimitz and north one oh one leaving san jose doing just fine james all right robin thank you at 6. 22 will take a brief break but coming up with 2 deputies in Southern California shot. In an ambush by gunman were going to have a the latest on that attack coming up in a minute. And were also continuing to monitor the bad air quality remind you once again that today is not a day to be outside. You can see the air quality index for the south bay is in the core to unhealthy category see all that red and thats its 25 in the Los Angeles CountySheriffs Department is offering a 100,000 to find the man who shot and injured 2 deputies. The deputies were ambushed saturday night in compton and their Surveillance Video just saw a guy run up to the passenger side of that patrol vehicle opened fire. And runs away. One deputy is a 31 yearold mother and the other is a 24 yearold deputy a man. These attacks come in the midst of Police Protests are protests, i guess against Police Brutality around the country. Our job is not get any easier because people dont like law enforcement, its. Its going to be a challenge day after day, however the Sheriffs Department will never be deterred. And keep in our passengers safe on the mta lines keeping our communities safe. Were committed to that these are real people doing a tough job. It just just the dangerous of the job. The blink of an eye seeing some just walk up and just start shooting on them, if this is me off. This may be at the same time and i. Theres no pretty way to say it. And they were new deputies, they just been sworn in less than 14 months. Break here at 5 2626. Still ahead 7 1st responders were exposed to the drug fentanyl on the Golden Gate Bridge will explain what happened. And todays temperatures looking like about the best part of our forecast comfortably in the 60s and 70s through San Francisco, oakland and san jose. Im talking more welcome back its 6. 29 right now and we are taking a look at more bad air quality poor air quality for breathing all around the bay again. And this is really beginning to wear on me and i have a healthy one know it. Hard to breathe that guy dash and everything over my car driving through haze all day long and robin were seeing the same conditions this morning. And buccaneers but so talk about this weather when we got to get some relief youre thinking maybe thursday. I think you know what thursday friday looks very hopeful which is good news because yeah at this point its starting to wear on all of us across the bay area because were all the same boat on this one. Very poor air quality having lasted through the weekend and the start this new week as well walnut creek this morning, not looking much better than any of her cam showed you last week either very deep red indicating very poor air quality yet again to kick off this morning. And theres still more smoke imbedded in the fog thats made its way off the pacific during overnight hours. So you may see a few foggy spots, especially in mountainous terrain inside that fog some poor air quality having pushed back in as well, not enough wind to be steering the existing haze out of the region too. So were only looking at modest improvements as we work our way day by day certainly improvements this morning compared to where we have been and well keep seeing those light improvements as we work our way through the forecast 50s and 60s is where temperatures are at to start this morning, cool enough to throw that jacket i do hope youre only going to be outside for a minute or 2 as we are looking at air quality less than ideal for spending more time than that out there as for temperatures later today 60s 70s, and 80s back to some pretty comfortable conditions compared to we were at the same time last week. Thats a look at your forecast robin also get your way all right thank you john were checking in on the bay bridge 80 wesson to San Francisco, the traffic continues to fill in this morning, but no major problems. The backup is going to spill beyond 8. 80. Its all the way out to west grand right now, but its not a terrible commute just busy so were clocking in at 13 minutes after fremont street. The only big problem is out in fremont a closure from overnight still in place doing some emergency work repair work after major accident on niles canyon. It is still closed between mission and fremont and 6 ad and son also just stick with 6 ad thats a great alternate thatll help you get around the closure target chains back to you, thanks a lot robin lets get back to the air quality of an all around the bay its going to be another tough week. Yeah, weve got smoke in the Central Valley, john saying its working its way through the delta down highway 4 and. Down the 6. 80 corridor into places like walnut creek and concord were kron fours will tran is standing by for us this morning will. James going to go ahead and add its working one more. Its working its way down my lungs last time i didnt have life my mask on the only a 7 is and i can agree shes my camera one in my throat is starting to get a little bit scratchy there she is giving the thumbs up getting a little scratchy because i can feel it being out here so try to limit your exposure being outdoors if you possibly can you can see now that the sun is starting to rise a little bit look at out hazy. Is and those of the cars going on highway 4 to the commute direction. Towards richmond. Torts. Oakland toward san pablo in a particular direction. So you can see what its doing to the tail lights. Let me quickly show you a map. Of the bay area. Its improving slowly, but surely not fast enough for any one of us you can see its. Unhealthy to very an unhealthy this morning. Its a little bit gusty. So ive never thought id be so thankful for that may be a starting to circulate that smoke and thats why maybe im starting to get a scratchy throat but circulation is good, especially with all of that smoke sitting on top of us like a Wrestler Holding us down on the mat i will let us get up. Theres been an awful weekend. So many people wanted to get out enjoy the decent weather was an. But unfortunately because of the smoky conditions most of us stayed indoors and if you went out doors hopefully was only for a limited amount of time or something that you desperately needed to go out other than that it looks like its going to be that way pretty much today as well john scher able was talking about thursday friday. But he didnt say what year things would get better. He said thursday friday, 2021 2022. Hopefully its this thursday friday. Back to you. And very much well. And a developing story that we have this morning, 7 the First Responders for chp officers in that group they all had to go to the hospital because they were exposed to fentanyl responding to a crash on the Golden Gate Bridge. The crash was around noon yesterday when an impaired driver hit a movable median barrier at the toll plaza. Powdery substance inside the vehicle. It took a step back and officer at that point was able to speak with the driver of the vehicle. Chris. Now responsible after being given 2 doses of narcan. We asked what the substance stated it might be a couple different things. But one of which may possibly be fentanyl. So all those First Responders had to go to the hospital they were released and theyre all okay, the only person still in the hospital is the driver of that vehicle. Well new this morning, one person is dead after a crash on 6 ad in san jose that happened last night in the northbound lanes of 6. 80 right near jackson avenue. A motorcyclist crashed into the suv and police say that motorcycles found underneath. The crash. Briefly shut down some lanes overnight. Also happening today part is changing its train schedule and will run more trains commute trains that run every 15 minutes will be added to most lines on weekdays and on weekends. There will be more trains that run every 30 minutes part says the schedule changes reflect a rise in ridership levels. So good news on that front trains will still run every until 09 00pm every night. In the north they 2 men were arrested for a fight that led to a double stabbing. It happened. And a Safeway Grocery store in American Canyon road last night officers when they got there. They found 2 men who were in a fight both had been stabbed. They were taken to a local hospital apparently theyre in stable condition right now. A man is in custody after a stabbing that were turned deadly in santa cruz officers found a 43 yearold man who had been stabbed several times at people park early yesterday morning. He died at the hospital officers found the suspect a short time later. We dont any names attached sure any motives. Well as wildfires burn across the state a lot of the smoke in the air is coming from out of state we talked about how smoke from the oregon fires has been filtering into the bay area at least 10 wildfires have scorched more than a million acres there in oregon. One of the largest fires is the riverside fire in Clackamas County which is now burned about a 133,000 acres. Its destroyed 33 homes so far and is just 0 contained. Some of say they almost turned a drastic measures before they escaped. We had a. I got up there and we were all preparing to start figuring out who was going to the other one too take care of everybody so that they didnt burn. The woman you just heard from says that she and her children. Escape from flames from a campsite. They left everything they own theyre now staying in a shelter. And as the Oregon Wildfires continue to burn out of control the state is looking to its next top firefighter or again the fire marshal jim walker. Announced hes resigning yesterday. He previously was fond administrative leave after the reportedly misleading investigators about whether he had authorization to enter a highrisk wildfire zone. Walker claims he was trying to help a coworker who had family members who are missing. And and he says he did nothing wrong still. You know i have been actively involved working with our firefighters. Throughout this time to give them resources trying to make sure that what youre doing is safe. And so for me to be cut on her and ministry that was during this time period during a catastrophic event when im probably the the highest level fire official in the state does not make any sense whatsoever. Mariana ruiz temple will take over the duties as acting fire marshal both the Oregon State Police in oregons governor have released statements supporting the new fire marshal. While were tracking wildfires here on the west coast People Living on the gulf coast of course are preparing for yet another storm system, Tropical Storm sally is expected to make landfall this week as a category one or potentially category 2 storm. Its threatening the gulf coast now with dangerous storm surge heavy rainfall. Strong winds all the things that come with a hurricane and this comes just a few weeks of course after hurricane laura carved its own path of destruction through the gulf coast. Weve got peyton lets us. Errol reporting now from new orleans. And im believable site on Saints Sunday outside the superdome its silent gated and empty that didnt stop a group of fans from cheering on the saints from a block away. Its a little as we dont the person, you know everyone around us coming up check highfiving you know just what were so used to it while the area either superdome is quiet downtown is a different story so we came here from atlanta from my daughters book the flight about a month ago so way before talks of a storm were coming still on vacation their storm ready weve already gone to rouse is weve got food. Weve got candles and so were ok as long as. Well okay, planning to fly home to atlanta on tuesday at noon. Their fears that sally will leave them stranded in new orleans. That theyre not alone in that situation what we live by were going to be writing and they love people has i would miss opener angle making. Of you know thats a lot and hope miles and it was and what it is were batch with lake charles evacuees downtown has been a safe haven that could soon change with torrential rain expected and the possibility of major storm surge, theres no time to spare so you know the club. That my daughters sailboat up getting going to put that the house strapping down over the you can clearly see everythings been pulled out ready to let sally ride, new orleans visitors and locals are preparing for a hurricane its one of those things that its life bought a life, you know hurricanes are going to come in. If you prepare for the best you can. Well still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news, the smoke in the air is bad for your health of course what firefighters say its actually helping them on the front lines well explain. Plus Bay Area Company oracle wins the bid to take control of took talks Us Operations on that story coming up as well. And football is back the fortyniners taken on the cardinals the raiders facing off against the panthers well have highlights from both games for you. And although comfortable the day ahead does look to remain hazy to smokey with less than ideal air quality. Your forecast is to come. And im tracking your commute around the bay area this morning still busy out there on 92 we are tracking the drive across the san mateo bridge to see a lot of tell lights and headlights into and out of hayward but no ladies. Check it out. So strong. So. Not ripped. Whatre we talkin about. Thats the hefty ultra strong bag hefty hefty hefty whispers gimme. confused give me the bag . Get hefty ultra strong at a low price well while the hazy skies from the wildfire smoke is impacting us negatively its actually helping firefighters fight the fire. Its a little counterintuitive but Officials Say smoke from the fires around the state has blocked out the sun which as we know last week actually brought our temperatures down and brought humidities up both of those are good things for the fire fight. Firefighters are hoping maybe they can continue with this trend. But despite the progress there is concern that the death toll may rise. As crews reach some of the more devastated areas will certainly be following the progress and updating you as we learn more and are still dozens of people listed as missing this morning and. Still bad air quality all around the bay thats our big story this morning. John yeah absolutely is guys that air quality remains an issue for everyone stepping outside north bay coast south bay east bay, all of us definitely sitting in the same boat on this one. Hazy skies across the bay is the first thing youll notice some fog in there as well and that fog thats pushed him across the bay certainly hasnt helped out with their quality as we do have smoke sitting out in the pacific to thats just making its way in with the fog this morning. So very poor air quality conditions continue across the bay area. It is a touch better than friday and saturday were so at least we have that and look at a modest improvement into tomorrow and wednesday as well. Now lets zoom out across the region and talk about where the smokes going what changes we have seen. So we do have a low pressure area sitting to our west thats slowly making its way just to our north. This is at least blocking out new wildfire smoke from oregon and Northern California from reaching us in the bay that is being sent to the east across the Northern Rockies and eventually across the rest of the country really where theyre having wildfire impacts from smoke all the way over towards ohio, where you can perceive that smoke from wildfires on the west coast. As for the Sierra Nevada fires that smoke is getting bunched up right there on the western sierra. Gradually settling into the Central Valley and has made its way into the bay area so we have continued haze from fires burning here in our backyard as for future cast of wind gusts not enough wind today but the to be pushing out most of that haze out of the region sure there will be an increase in our sea breeze into the afternoon. Thats just going to push it a lot more of that smoke that sitting out in the pacific though we are going to be seeing improvements later in this forecast though, and that is something nice to be talking got that in your sevenday as for temperatures today, 50s and 60s for coastal spots, pretty business as usual right out the coast 70s and 80s elsewhere in the bay with most of our bayside areas back into the 70s palo alto at 72 south bay temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s, san jose youll be at a nice 77 today. I know thats like oh yeah i want to enjoy that kind of weather but with the smoke you want to hold off on enjoying these temperatures because we do have nicer weather just around the corner and better smoke conditions to to hopefully be getting back out there just take it easy inside today, san santa rosa in down through mill valley. All in the 70s up in marin and sonoma counties. So heres your next few days today and tomorrow definitely avoid too much outdoor exposure smoke is still with us even with the comfortable temperatures, not your best weather for get outside thursday and friday as were really starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We have a system thats going to be pushing through on thursday creating enough lifted enough wind to help to sweep out some of the haze that has been persistent and on friday even the possibelity of some drizzly spots at the coast and in the north bay temperatures will be cool into next weekend and also skies looking a little bit clear so there is hope and signs of hope just towards the end of this forecast so nice to be talking about that. Robin is there any good news in traffic this morning. Well, the good news is we dont have any major problems on our bridges but they are definitely getting busy were checking out the bay bridge and the Richmond Sandra fell and thats where the traffic is picking up. This morning, so lets head over to 5. 80 there it is well it was just some heavy a few minutes ago. But its already thinning out so we have some traffic leading up to the pay gates its not bad, its just going to be off and on throughout the 6 oclock hour there. It is we have more coming up right now 9 minutes heading into the north bay here at the bay bridge 80 west weve had off and on slowing as well like checked few minutes ago the backups to the overcrossing now we have just a minor weight, but it is busy up the incline heading up toward the tunnel and this closure 84 niles canyon its been in place since yesterday and the 11 oclock hour last night an accident here involving a damaged power pole pg remains on scene so if you normally take 84 niles canyon they have blocked off this morning between mission and 6. 80 so just stick with 6. 80 as your alternate route daria thanks a lot rob, and it is 6. 49 and what a disappointing start for the defending nfc champs not so bad. That they lost the first its fine. Got my 49 er ties still supporting all of the time youre going to pull out the ties, yes, very cardinal even if they lose even if they were ok, true fans never lose faith lets go to the highlights the game was played under smoky skies of course at levi stadium in santa clara we all know that. Neither started out strong look at here jimmy g throwing a running back raheem most are they connected the most are runs it in 76 yards in all that was a touchdown in the 1st quarter set the mood everybody is happy. That can sustain. Jimmy g finished with 259 yards and 2 touchdowns in the end it was the defensive sort of one slip a little bit. They love the cardinals to score 14 points in the 4th quarter so. They could do that and they went the niners it was the first game of the season 24 to 20 right last time we played these guys that came down to the wire just like this one did. We have a chance or to win at the end. You know they had they made a good there in the end zone on born on the. The double movie ran and then on the fort down the made a good play stop and turn on our old and. We came up a little bit short, you know last 2 times we very similar mo. We came up on top those 2. Yeah, what shanahan said, maybe it was because was just fake crowd. They needed the real home town crowd yeah and hes going to get used to thats the new reality this season, the niners will travel across the country next theyll take on the new york jets next sunday. Meantime silver and black officially starting their new era as well as the Las Vegas Raiders and. They had to win. Im still better but played on the road against the Carolina Panthers they were in the new dessert digs yet raiders quarterback derek carr threw for 239 yards and one touchdown, but the start of the game was raiders running back josh jacobs he rushed for 3 touchdowns and ended with the game with a a total of a 139 yards from the line of scrimmage and the raiders beat the panthers 34 to 30 coach gruden says remember jacobs. Ive seen a lot of running backs for a long time. The dow a little bit like Walter Payton used to play it was a hot as help. They get beat up early. He is not coming back, he insisted he get the ball as a runner and receiver. The a e special he deserves up. Some National Attention hope you guys give it to him. So we did you give me a chance and groove this season, the raiders will play their first game at their las vegas stadium. A week from today, theyll be hosting the new Orleans Saints and drew brees coming to sin city for that is how about baseball the oakland as split a fourgame series with the rangers in texas as pitcher. Frankie montt has struck out 7 batters yesterday but he also gave up a threerun homer in the 6th inning the rangers would take it from there and they beat the as 3 to 6 the as go on the road to seattle this afternoon taking on the mariners in a double header. He does reach all right meantime, the giants they played a double header against the padres in san it was scheduled after giants outfielder Alex Dickerson tested positive for coronavirus and friday probably saw the headline gather canceled but thats right, yeah, it was a false positive and they discovered that on saturday so they return to the field yesterday and. Made up those games in backtoback outings, unfortunately, the giants lost both of them. They got shut out by the padres in game 1, 0, to 6 and then they lost game 2. One to 3 the giants will take the day off today and then theyll head out to seattle to take on the mariners tomorrow night.
