Neighborhoods in Sonoma County. And we actually have a live camera this is a live look from mount accident. The cameras pointed west right at the fire. If you look closely you can see that glow thats the flames and the smoke thats coming from the fire. Firefighters do say that they have stopped the forward progress of the fire but they continue to battle it. And more breaking news as well with military helicopters attempting to rescue more than 60 people who are track right now in the creek fire in Fresno County this will be their 3rd attempt to get to those hikers the rescues had to be called off last night because of the heavy smoke and because it was getting too dark and too dangerous and gosh thats a pretty scary situation we actually have a picture of the hikers take a look. Theyre sheltering at the vermilion valley camping resort at lake edison volunteers are there theyre helping hikers say fed and hydrated as they wait to be rescued, now theyre smiling for now because theyre still a little ways off from the fire. Heres a map showing where the fire line is its that line that outlines the fire perimeter on the left side of your screen and then off to the east out at the edge of the lake thats like addison and you can see that is the camp in the Sierra Nevada National Forest where those hikers are hunker down and waiting to be rescued to fire still a little ways away but as we know these fires move quick. They do indeed we actually have video showing the extensive damage from the creek fire. So far check this out. It has exploded to more than 135,000 acres after sparking on friday and its still 0 contained this morning, the blaze just move so quickly over the weekend that a trump more than 200 people. In the mud county Area National guard helicopters were brought in to airlift in safety. Thats going to be a very tough day for firefighters and for those that have been evacuated because the heat is going to be intensifying and the winds as well in some of these fire areas and thats not good news, not good at all and its only going to cool down a little bit were still expecting triple digits for some spots, lets check in with meteorologist john trimble who has those details stop yeah wind in triple digits. Guys paired with low humidity that is not a recipe and the firefighter wants to be seeing today you can see outside that we do have clear skies for the most part from berkeley slightly cooler morning which is very welcome but much wind year start to the day Fairfield Vacaville at was p calistoga and son omar couple of spots. That winds are already beginning to pick up and then as we make our way into the afternoon on into tomorrow we will see winds, especially breezy for the north bay into the east bay you pair that with low humidity already very dry up in youngsville thats where the concern comes in so red flag warnings in effect today, lasting through tomorrow from upper elevations all across the bay, but a couple of areas that were really going to keep a close eye on is the east bay upper elevations still going to have triple digits in many of our inland valleys. Gusty winds gusting as high as 30 to 45 Miles Per Hour for portions of alameda and contra costa counties, the entirety of Solano County under a redflag warning to with winds gusting as high as 25 to 40 Miles Per Hour and then portions of moran and sonoma and napa counties also affected upper elevations, most susceptible to the strong gust of wind gusts as high as 45 Miles Per Hour and as i mentioned still going to be a really hot one today may not be as hot as we have been, but we still got highs in the triple digits, especially inland. Right now temperatures are cooler than they were yesterday morning very welcome relief from the heat yesterday morning we didnt get much of a cool down so this is nice to see right here fairfield is our loan spot, not really checking in with that coastal influence and the starting off in the 80s sorry fairfield i know you wanted that cool down didnt quite though, as for the afternoon ahead 80s at the coast 90s right along the bay and then theres your triple digits from the livermore concord on over to antioch and weve also got poor air quality yet again so again not the best day to be spending outside and with extreme fire danger please be very mindful of any Outdoor Activities you may do, im checking in more details on your forecast. Still ahead robin. All right, thank you john im still tracking a hot spot thats left over from the last hour its a crash in oakland. Its just west of the caldecott tunnel right after the boar westbound 24. Crews are still on scene working with this theyve issued a Traffic Alert your 2 left lanes blocked by a multi vehicle accident. So the backup spilling through the tunnel into a renda its beyond wilder, so this is really jamming up that drive coming out of if you have to leave maybe wanted creek or lafayette in orinda and make your way over to the oakland side of 24 your drive time just bumped up to 32 minutes. Once again west 24 after the caldecott on the oakland side across blocks 2 left lanes are jammed out of orinda and chp has issued a Traffic Alert saw stay on top of that thats going make some folks late heading into San Francisco we already have a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. Check this out the headlights it goes all the way back to west grand so full house now where a 10 minutes and growing to make it in well check in on more bridges coming up a little bit later. James all right, lets get back to our breaking news this morning. We have students in 14 marin county schools. It will be among the first in the bay area to return to class for in person learning. The class sizes will be limited and the schools will have to follow new safety rules but theres already been a setback Kron Sara States if were a county base era. Just say the same time as but yeah were talking about this morning is 15 schools were supposed to be okay to reopen for in person classes, however, the school behind me Bayside Martin luther king Junior Academy they have a teacher that may have tested positive for the coronavirus because theyve tested all the teachers in all 15 of those marine county schools last week and one teacher from the sauce leader Marine City School district may have tested positive so that is a setback for this school they are going to be pushing back in person classes until next week that means they will be starting that until monday the 14th until then they will be going back to that Distance Learning 14 other in county schools though will be moving forward with those in person classes today, big big day because no other schools in the bay area are doing so this is after each school applied for a waiver to reopen was an extensive safety plan and the Health Department approved it. They will be allowed to reopen for students in kindergarten through 6th grade, certain schools are able to open for different grades just depends on each one 11 schools have applied those applications are pending and more schools will continue to apply to reopen in doing so Protection Plan with tons of coronavirus precautions have to free have to be created. By that they comply with 30 different recommendations or orders for her safe reopening of schools, including establishing testing resources making sure that they have the capacity to to screen individuals both staff and students are going to come and disinfection procedures et cetera. If so lot they have to do to make sure they can get approved on your screen or the other marine county schools that will reopen today for schools again in the bay area to reopen during the pandemic so come to be trial and error well see how it goes with all the precautions are taking the full list of the schools are on our website kron 4 dot com. Back here live at Bayside Martin luther king Junior Academy in marine city they say that students can come by here from 8. 30 this morning until 00 03pm in the afternoon to get breakfast and lunch as well as chrome book so that they can. Be successful with their Distance Learning until next week when in person classes will begin for the first time with this whole pandemic now well be live least one more time and then well head to one of those schools, its reopening well see how a students and families are feeling on the first day of school during these unprecedented times well live in warren city Sarah Stinson kron 4 news pretty good all right, thank you much sara. Lets head to the south bay now forest hill elementary and for other schools in the campbell unified School District. They will begin what they called modified in person classes the idea is to provide some extra help to students who are struggling with Distance Learning. Well still ahead here on the kron 4 morning news protesters take to the Golden Gate Bridge to deliver a message about racial equality of more on that coming up plus screeching tires and then gunfire. The deadly shooting in the area of an illegal sideshow in San Francisco. Plus experts fear the Holiday Weekend could end up causing a surge in coronavirus cases, well have welcome back everyone in national politics, both president ial candidates spent their labor day focused on the economy as they attempt to appeal to voters darryl forges has that story. This labor day the spotlight is on jobs. We really celebrate. The American Worker we are in the midst of the fastest economic recovery and the u. S. History. So we have a lot to be thankful for an april during the height of the coronavirus pandemic. The United States lost more than 20 million jobs since President Trump now touting a stronger economy weve added. A record setting 10. 6 million jobs since may. Democratic nominee joe biden says thats not enough. Long a stock market is doing great. Everything ok sir you have everybody else it can climb are millions of people still have trouble making ends meet. And are in desperate need of benefits we want to help. Of businesses that are particularly impacted by this and will continue to work on proposed new legislation yet congress and the white house are at a standstill over the next round of stimulus funding there is no question that donald trump has been an abject failure and incompetent. When it comes to addressing the severe job loss that has happened as a result of the pandemic despite the pandemic and protests over Racial Injustice polls reflect a race that has barely budged which is why both campaigns are targeting key battleground states like wisconsin wisconsin. Vice president mike pence a senator Kamala Harris are spending labor day and pennsylvania where biden met with labor leaders unions built no class still President Trump believes focusing on the economy may be the ticket to keep him in the white house under my leadership next year will be. Greatest economic here in the history of our country and project. At the white house, im darryl forges. In San Francisco, black lives matter protesters took their message to the Golden Gate Bridge monday morning. A few 100 people attended the event called reclaim golden gate. They wanted to keep the spotlight on the issue of Police Violence against black americans specifically jacob blake. George Floyd Breonna Taylor and daniel purdue. The event also served as a chance to register voters for the upcoming election. The demonstration was peaceful. O lets get a check of the forecast were expecting more hot weather today and yesterday we broke a lot of records but john says i guess its not cooling down much and yeah yesterday a record breaker in santa rosa we did avoid records in areas like San Francisco though where temperatures cool down pretty good. As for today still a hot one reading and winds on top of it which is not necessarily a recipe that anybody wanted to see this is half moon bay, this morning, a spot that is significantly cooler than yesterday, thanks to a nice seabreeze that pushed in and help to clear some air quality out right along the coast and alongside the bay, so an improvement in air quality this morning and a slightly cooler start to the day. We can focus on the positives well weve got him this morning. Now for the not so good so we do have this low pressure area centered across the central rockies that is resulting in snowfall for wyoming and colorado this morning, not resulting in that for us what it is doing is kicking up some winds from the northeast. Winds that will be accompanying some very hot dry conditions. Sonoma calistoga vacaville and fairfield already windy this morning and will remain windy through the rest of the day evening tonight and eventually into tomorrow thats where the high fire danger comes into play here and thats where your red flag warnings happen. We are seeing the east bay, one of our most fireprone areas today as were pairing dry conditions triple digits with 30 to 45 Miles Per Hour winds. As we make our way in the upper elevations, thats where youre seeing peak, fire danger areas all of Solano County would up also a lot of county going to be hot and with up to 40 Miles Per Hour winds high fire danger for you as well as for sonoma napa and marin counties up towards lake and mendocino counties to upper elevations are prone to be seeing winds gusting as high as 45 Miles Per Hour. And thats high fire danger is at an extreme today. So be very careful with any sort of Outdoor Activities that you may have as for temperatures weve been talking those minor improvements 70s and 80s at the coast, no 90s in San Francisco today. We will have 90s in Millbrae Burlingame down south through palo alto and Mountain View and eventually into the south bay where we wave goodbye to triple digits, very close to a 100 in morgan hill at 99 san jose from yesterdays triple digits to 95 today. East bay temperatures anywhere from the 90s to triple digits for you pleasanton and livermore as well as san ramon up to concord still all at or above the century mark and thats why we do see high fire danger for the east bay as well as the north bay was the lotto county, pretty regularly here into the triple digits today. Vacaville at 99 welfare feel that one o one santa rosa through center fell also mid to upper 90s for you. Now good news after tomorrow because after tomorrows windy and still warm conditions we really see things calming and cooling down thursday friday and saturday highs leveling out in the upper 80s to low 90s at our warmest and even into next week even cooler conditions sunday and monday of next week highs that are warmest falling into the mid 80s thats your forecast update robin how is traffic right now well not so good we still have crews dealing with a hot spot in the east bay, its on the oakland side of the caldecott tunnel westbound right after the tunnel. Your 2 left lanes are blocked this is actually left over from the last hour theyve issued a Traffic Alert, your backup is growing its all the way out from saint siemens now. So you just going to be riding the brakes from Saint Stephens out of her and all the way through the caldecott up to the scene there right after the tunnel so heads up make sure you get out there early. Its pushing up your drive time were almost at 30 minutes now from walnut creek through the slowdown over to oakland sol keep my eyes on that its going to hold back some folks, im trying to get into San Francisco since theyre stuck in that back up its not too bad here at the bay bridge toll plaza jan from west grand. But just know that more folks on are on the way so 13 minutes and growing to make it into San Francisco and good news for the Richmond Sandra fell bridge wide open no delays here 7 minutes into the north bay james. All right back to the news now we saw more large parties and busy beaches over the Labor Day Weekend and just like after the 4th of july and the memorial day holidays, Health Officials are worried that this time around will lead to another surge in covid19 cases and if that wasnt bad enough we also have to figure out just how to safely return kids to school nick watt has more. Is this the spark for another surge for this for this. Well find out in a few weeks things have stabilized things are much better, but we have seen as you mention spikes after a long weekend in part due to memorial day crowds celebrating the start of summer new case count soared from around 20,000 today, mid may to over 70,000 a little more than a month later and labor day. Were starting from a much higher baseline. I dont think it will take much to really bring us back up to 70,000. New cases a day. This weekend of course also marks the unofficial start of fame when people will be moving more indoors when infection risk rises and. People are exhausted thats another challenge trying to keep up our vigilance at a time when we know that this can spread more aggressively. Its also back to school time college is now in every single state dealing with outbreaks, 11 northeastern students just kickbacks in the entire semester without refunds after allegedly gathering in a hotel room. Keep them at the university in a place thats sequestered enough from the other students that dont have them go home because they could be spreading in their home state. 29 states right now seeing 5 in more tests. Coming back positive. A bad sign. Past few days west, virginia and north dakota seeing record infection rates missouri in puerto rico seeing record death tolls meanwhile as we near election day the president says weve turned the corner were going to a vaccine very soon maybe even before a very special day, you know what talking about i think the likelihood that were going to have a vaccine. For widespread use in 2020 is extremely low at least 3 potential vaccine producers rivals reportedly now preparing a joint statement that they will not seek government approval. Until they know for sure the vaccine is safe and effective this according to the wall street journal the fact were seeing the pharmaceutical companies sir protecting the u. S. Population from. From the government is something ive never seen before. Yeah that was nick watt reporting again for the very latest on the coronavirus and its impacts for the bay area in california always check our website at kron 4 dot com. Ocon surgery, thousands of people to the State Capitol for labor day and now were learning a state lawmaker help organize the whole thing video from the let us worship rally and concert. It just shows that you know folks out there hardly wearing a mask or social distancing. Those are violations of not just capital permits, but also state and county rules amid covid19. Now chp is in charge of permitting events on Capitol Grounds and the agency has yet to comment on its approval of sundays event, a spokesperson for chp did confirm Republican Senate minority leader Shannon Grove was the organizer and the holder of the original permit. Holder for the concert. Well so far the state has recorded more than 741,000 cases with more than 13,700 deaths now across the bay area there are more than 88,000 reported cases and nearly 1200 deaths. Well take a break time now 6. 22 coming up chaos at the American Canyon wall mark will tell you what sent customers running for safety. Plus were also continuing to monitor the heat of course with another day of extremely dangerous temperatures and now a growing fire danger on top of it all weve got john trouble with your complete forecast coming up. Police rushed inside found no evidence of any shooting but they learned that a man was waving around a bb gun after the fist fight. One woman describes now the chaotic scene. 4 from exit and a split screen little kids were crying, so its like ok, you know like what the heck is going its crazy how its gotten to this point where you cant even go to a regular store at 1 oclock in the afternoon and i have to worry about you know being in the middle the shooting. While so police ended up arresting that man with a bb gun identified as 44 yearold cornelius, rentals his wife 32 yearold shawn rough incident was also arrested for trying to stop police from arresting her husband. Well take a break but still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news were following the breaking news as power shutoffs are taking place across parts of the bay area another day of triple digit temperatures is expected. And high fire danger. Googles Parent Company alphabet all down more than 3 . So well see where it goes, but it looks exactly what rob black was talking about a rotation investors taking their money out of tech stocks which have been on a tear and putting him into other stocks that might benefit from the reopening of the economy well chat more with raw black later on about what were seeing on wall street this morning. And were also hoping for our temperatures to go down way down only a little bit today but john we did a little bit hot. Totally agree we do need temperatures to cool down quite a life we had been 25 to 30 degrees above average guys. Well were only going to be 15 to 20 degrees above average so improvements in that regard at least today were adding in some winds though so its really not all good for your tuesday. We do have some cloud cover thats moved overhead of San Francisco overnight and nice seabreeze last night that cooled off a lot of our coastal areas. Winds have picked up though and now from the northeast. Thats going to result in heightened fire danger come the afternoon sonoma Vacaville Fairfield and calistoga among areas that are looking at breezy conditions already this morning and look at how winds for the east bay and north bay remain through the evening tonight. Eventually into tomorrow too with those winds hot temperatures and very low relative humidity out bill one of those spots thats bone dry right now. We do have extreme fire danger today, thats red flag warnings for upper elevations across the bay area couple of spots. Were really going to be focusing on today into tomorrow is going to be our east bay hills where temperatures will remain at or above 100 degrees. Dry conditions and then winds gusting as high as 30 to 45 Miles Per Hour. All of Solano County prone to high fire danger 25 to 40 Miles Per Hour wind gusts. The marine sonoma and napa counties as upper elevations also lit up in red indicating that high fire danger that we could be seeing any sort of spark could result in growth of the fire so please be very mindful of anything youre doing stepping outside today. Right now were in the 50s and 60s which is really the highlight of this mornings forecast compared to yesterday which remember was warm didnt offer much relief from the heat. We have a big switch up their only one city being the exception fairfield you really didnt get that coastal air. Thats youre still sitting at 86 degrees in later today as robin and james mentioned were still too hot even though were not as hot as we have been concord in antioch above 100 degrees still at a 100 and delay how in livermore while san jose and oakland in the mid 90s today. Robin. All right, thank you lets check in on your morning commute we still have a hot spot thats working in oakland. This is westbound 24 west of the caldecott tunnel its a crash that still wrapping up to happen at 5. 25 this morning and your 2 left lanes are still blocked right after the tunnel, so its backed up through the tunnel through or end up all the way out to Saint Stephens are really really jamming up your commute. If you have to take 24 get out there early work between 2325 minutes for wannacry to the oakland maze of your drive time just continues to go up and down but we dont know how long its going to take to completely clear so well keep you posted. Its kind of holding folks back that would normally already be at the bay bridge toll plaza so we have heavy traffic at the pay gates, its stacked up from the bottom of the maze and when those folks that are trapped behind the crash. When they finally make it to San Francisco youre going to have heavier traffic so right now 12 minutes and growing to make it in enough of a backup to leave as early as you can well check more coming up a little bit later takes all right now lets get back to the breaking news out of the north bay pg need turning off the power. Because of the fight high fire threat. Yeah, lets take a look at the map that actually shows you where that powers out so you see those little purple triangles those triangles or where the power has been cut off on purpose more shutoffs could come in the next few hours as prepares for high fire danger. Yeah, the utility started shutting the power off in parts of 22 counties just before 11 oclock last night and among them 3 bay area counties and they include napa sonoma and lake counties. Restoration is an expected till about 07 00pm tomorrow night at the earliest. So to go along with that breaking news. Were also following the latest out of the walbridge fire in Sonoma County which flared up overnight then what youre looking at his new time lapse video showing it burn in the overnight hours new evacuation orders are also in effect for several neighborhoods there in Sonoma County. And then we actually have a live camera from amount jackson its pointed west right at the fire you see the smoke and the haze there thats all coming from that fire firefighters to say that theyve stopped the forward progress of the fire, but theyre still working for containment and now to more breaking news fire related we have military helicopters attempting to rescue more than 60 people who are trapped right now in the creek fire thats the one in Fresno County. This will be their 3rd attempt to get to those hikers the rescues had to be called off last night because of the heavy smoke and the well the disappearing light it started getting dark way too dangerous, you can see from these aerial pictures, those helicopter pilots really have a tough job. Yeah its a pretty scary situation to be and we actually have a picture of the hikers and they are right there theyre sheltering at the vermilion valley camping resort at lake and a son. Volunteers are helping the hikers you know theyre feeding them theyre making sure that they stay hydrated as they wait to be rescued. Yeah, heres a map showing where they are in relation to the fire. Actually this is video from the creek fire. The latest of the damage that you can see and yeah its been pretty extensive with entire community sort of wiped out a lot of properties as you can see robin just reduced to rubble absolutely extensive damage there. And of course its going to take quite some time. To rebuild so just another example of the tough conditions that the homeowners are dealing with and that fire crews are dealing with as well and well continue to follow this story for you throughout the throughout the morning and once again we showed you video from the damage of the creek fire and exploded to more than a 135,000 acres and keep in mind that sparked on friday and as of this morning is still 0 contained. James it just moves so quickly over the weekend a trump more than 200 people in im a dirt Madera County now only 0 still 0 contained this morning. So a lot of work still need to be done there. We are making great progress though back here in the bay area fact fire crews. Got those containment numbers a lot higher take a look weve got the information there on the right panel, the lnu complex fires. Those are the ones burning in the north bay, 91 containment so firefighters just about there in terms of getting it fully surrounded, they are holding it to around 375,000 acres burned the scu complex fires in the east and south bay 94 containment and they havent let that fire get any larger then the acreage you see there the czu lightning complex fires in san mateo and santa cruz counties now 80 contained. And lastly we have the woodward fire thats the one burning at the Point Reyes National seashore in marin county now 95 contained that fire being held to about 4800 acres in size but a long bout. Well this morning. We have video of a sideshow that led to a deadly shooting in San Francisco, one man was killed and 2 others were sent to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Grocery Stores Pharmacies etc police fire. Everything that we need to take care of everyone else in those folks who do live in the un powered area or an energized area. Well we will have some cooling centers for them to move over to. Well if the interconnection hub works as planned it should be able to bring back power within just a few hours pg e has also set up Community Resource centers for those impacted. All right, lets get a check of the john trouble standing by with that and again a triple digit heat john. Yeah, triple digit heat for yet another day guys the good news is not all of us are going to be in the triple digits, a few less. Than what we had been seeing the past few days so there are pockets of good news. And what is maybe not the most pleasant forecast today. Timber on is under some cloud cover and that cloud cover thats pushing in from the coast has cooled us off during overnight hours and thats really the biggest highlight of this morning is the fact that you actually can open up your window and let not just cool air in but relatively clean air specially out the coast, moderate air quality right along the bay thats a big improvement from yesterday our inland areas are still ports report as far as their quality goes. So we have we not all in the clear but we have seen improvements there this morning. Savor those because this afternoon winds will pick up from the north and east as a part of this big dip in the jet stream thats bringing snow to the rockies right now what its going to do for us is not bring snow but it is going to bring these winds and heightened fire danger sonoma calistoga vacaville and fairfield all looking at strong winds already and only picking up come the afternoon the evening tonight into tomorrow so even though temperatures are going to be our warmest today, theyre still hot enough conditions dry enough and winds Strong Enough that fire danger is extreme today and a couple regions that were going to be keeping a very close eye on her. The east bay with alameda and Contra Costa County upper elevations, especially prone to those higher wind gusts you go inland to triple digit temperatures do remain does high fire danger today. Contra costa county on up to Solano County also right there through the delta going to see some strong winds all of Solano County lit up with a red flag warning and upper elevations summer in napa and sonoma counties also seeing winds as high as 45 Miles Per Hour today. So as you venture outside doing whatever activity please be very mindful of that very high fire danger, we know one spark can do. Weve seen those fire sparking up all across the states these past few weeks 70s, 80s for San Francisco, another coastal spots today even warm at the coast. We saw marine influence last night is that sea breeze pushed in. Its going to keep us out of the 90s up the coast like the rest of the bay area will be seeing 90s to triple digits yet again today making for another hot one morgan hill drops from the triple digits to 99 san jose from the triple digits to 95 today. Fremont on them through hayward in the 90s while Pleasanton Livermore Danville San Ramon up to concord in walnut creek. All still in the triple digits and with those winds you can see why fire danger remains such a threat today fairfield in benicia at one oh one each while vacaville and napa the upper 90s. Santa rosa through center fell also mid to upper 90s today. Now heres where the good news starts after 2 days. Heat, windy conditions we see temperatures backing off easing tomorrow. Thursday and friday getting even cooler yet. High temperatures will be in at max in the upper 80s by next week. So theres a lot of relief in this forecast a much more comfortable forecast for enjoying any sort Outdoor Activities is on the horizon. Robin. No relief in traffic just yet john we have a hot spot that still working its been blocking for over an hour now. This is westbound 24 right after the caldecott tunnel so on the oakland side multicar crash still tying up traffic theyre clearing it from the 2 left lanes but youre backed up through the caldecott into orinda beyond saints, even some really impacting that commute traffic. Youre up to 27 between 2730 minutes now total to make it from one a creek through the crash and over to the oakland maze so make sure you get out there early. This is what its looking like when you finally reach the bay bridge toll plaza, its packed backed up to the bottom of the maze. It does spin out on the upper deck on one of your approach is we have a crash in berkeley, 80 west state university. Thats in the left lane, so you could be stuck in a lot of heavy traffic through albany. Berkeley el serino trying to make it down to the maze ill give you one more the Richmond Sandra fell bridge, not a terrible commute, but it stacking up here at the tolls are looking at 9 minutes and growing into the north bay james all right. Thank you very much robin, the sick 49. Back to the headlines now we have one Northern California School District considering getting rid of its School Resource officers altogether. But that has some parents concerned especially since one of those officers is credited with saving a students life. Were in the shot its now with the story. Needs to be at the school. A 16 yearold son carson is a junior at Cordova High School who went into cardiac arrest last year his heart stopped beating and he stopped breathing right in the middle of class they lost a with help from staff including the schools resource officer tracy jacobs who perform cpr doing chest compressions for 8 straight minutes sons heart began beating again very grateful for his racing because it wasnt for her and the rest of the staff but it wasnt for her to take my and just how much does she mean to block. If she does go on for the cordova high could lose its 3 resource officers later this month the district will decide whether to continue funding to have the officers on campus or put the money toward other programs, conrad mayor heads the mentoring program at cordova high and says the sros are essential its about mentoring and teaching right from wrong. And developing relationships. Officer tracy jacobs says when she started at the campus 3 years ago 3 students who wouldnt even acknowledge her being there then one day she didnt elaborate kind of handshake with one of the kids he got the attention of others and soon those students wanted to join in too. Current day of a 101 different handshakes with 101 different kids we hear about whats going on in the world today with Law Enforcement but having the relationship in interacting with her as a rule officers on a daily bases gets us to know whos right and whos wrong whos good and whos bad still some disagree defund the police. I know lot of folks want to look at it as a negative but its really not a negative its really if you look at it, its the shape into a positive Community Activists barry axios says police already wear many hats dealing with multiple types of calls for service, each day, its unnecessary to have police in places where i dont really believe they serve a purpose, according to a 2019 report from the aclu black students are 3 times as likely to be arrested compared to white students nationally. Schools with officers on campus reported more than 3 times the arrest of schools without the money could be spread into organizations that can really do some groundbreaking work that ive seen happen the best thing about being a School Resource is by far definitely the relationships that i have that ive built with the students i am definitely somebody that they know over the past few years. That they can trust and confide in. That was really the shacks reporting this morning. All right, lets turn our attention of area, baseball, the oakland as are hosting the Houston Astros in a double header today and yesterday to start the series out. In a big way a blowout win lets go to the second inning sean murphy at the plate. Theres the pitch and he sends this one high and deep to center field thats good for a home run. That youre on the mound for the as was Chris Bassitt and he did a pretty good job, 7 innings worth of work in the astros really couldnt get anything going on offense. As ended up taking this one 6 to nothing. The first game of todays doubleheader starts at 3. 10. Lets go oakland and lets go giants, lets head across the bay to oracle park. The giants were finishing up a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks the giants took the lead in the 6th inning after dare rough gets a base hit right up the middle that allows 2 runs to score the giants will go on to defeat the dbacks for 2 that was the final score. Now moving on to host the Seattle Mariners that game going down tonight at 6. 45 go giants all right. Heres a quick check of the big board and as expected the numbers are sliding pretty sharply see the dow off by more than 500 and 50 points right now the nasdaq off more than 3 as a text shares are getting real hammered right now under pressure following that or sell off more than 5 months last week so thats the situation as it stands right now its struggling again rob black hour financial expert will be joining us later on this morning to break down what were seeing in help make sense of it all. All right as we head to break. Heres another look at the air quality across the bay areas were continuing to monitor smoke from the wildfires. You can see its moderate for most of the areas immediately surrounding the bay but the further you get inland. Thats where the air gets worse more your coming up next on the kron 4 morning news more than a dozen schools in Orange County will be reopening today but one school has been taken off the list after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus and thousands of pg e customers in the north bay are in the dark and could be without power for days as a Public Safety power shutoff get underway.
