See the fire like. It was coming and it not only reach her property off gibson canyon road it burned all the way up to the house we appreciate our home now the first hours back stephanie spent doing Little Things she took for granted before like planting grateful. She recently invested in Fire Protection by barked in iraq its low maintenance. I did that with my stimulus checks sadly, not every home here survived like this one on steiger hill road. Im told that the couple that lives here is still alive but their home burned to the ground i just feel for all people lost everything all their animals their possessions stuff gerri bob settled back into his home on sunday it is untouched because hes hurting his house you can see right there. The fire isnt that far from where were at so we got lucky, so did linda stroh meyer who first feared her home was destroyed only to later through a firefighter that is not the case but i am devastated week, not every team we all cried remember van and well hear all about that because. Houses was like wow thats great. The Solano County Sheriffs Office understands the emotions will run high for the coming days and is keeping that in mind while repopulate in communities were very careful in how we phrase their questions and how we interact with everybody Stephanie Mandel may have been among those to receive good news but says after all of this shes making a change im going to be a chicken when i say this but. Im sorry my home and im moving back into town for her this was one fire too many. In vacaville phillipe djegal all kron 4 news. Better weather conditions continue to aid firefighters in their efforts towards containment of the lightning complex fires and here to tell us more what this means Going Forward is cal fires Daniel Berlant hes joining us live now from the cal fire air base in Sacramento County daniel thanks for joining us here on kron 00 04am tonight. Whats this helicopter behind you i want to start there. Well this is what our brand new calfire it is modeled after the black hawk helicopter, the military this is one aircraft that we are adding to the mike getting to help us from the air attack these helicopters out just out of my new urges out here behind me all summer large air tankers, you may just yeah, some 47 or d seat and the very large air tankers that were fine right now they are coming in and out of this faith we have over a 100 aircraft right now of that multiple fires across they have dumped a record nearly 4 million gallons. A fire retardant on the fires a over the past week and a half. And as the air attack, the best way to work on containment with these fires as i understand its really hard to get boots on the ground the terrain is really rugged. Yeah, you know when we get into a very inaccessible terrain its deep, its rocky its hard to get got crews in helicopters and air tankers are bounce, but now we can always use them when the smoke a version is back when it is extremely using aircraft just becomes inefficient lot of people out why dont i see the aircraft flying that doesnt necessarily mean that were not actually fighting the fire may be its just not an effective tool, but our success is the fact that we are using bulldozers for using firefighters were using hand crews were using helicopters were using air tankers. Its a fullon fight against the fires. And is the air attack that youre focusing on is thats going to help the containment numbers go up the most. You know you aircraft play a very vital role they help slow down a fire that way the Ground Resources been getting their acts and put it out there for i dont put out fires, it is really day firefighters on the ground a building containment line but these aircraft system, the helicopters to drop water on the hot spots, the air tankers dropped fire retardant ahead of the approaching fire to slow it down so again those ground crews to get in there. So it really is a combination of both but you know behind me it is a nonstop air tanker after air tanker filling up refilling and heading back out there. And what is changed in the weather thats made it more favorable to put these fires out. Weve got to remember a week and a half ago when the fire started we were seeing historic triple digit temperatures and it was those hot hot. Temperatures combined with a thunderstorms that then cause lightning that then had a little bit of wind gust behind them it was just the perfect combination for a firestorm in a fire thats the reason why we in the hundreds of fire sparked from these lightning down in the past week and a half. We have battled over 700 wildfires, most of them we have but there are still nearly 2 dozen larkin major wildfire complexes that are still burning today, but we are making progress you are containment figures on all fronts are increasing and we will continue to see that over the next several days. We are expecting temperatures to be continued to be favorable likely at st. Thats what we want to hear daniel and with calfire thank you for joining us here tonight, stay safe. Although many Evacuation Orders have been riz reduced to warnings are lifted altogether thousands of people in the bay area still cannot return home tonight kron fours ken wayne joins us now from the newsroom to break down where these Evacuation Orders and warnings are still in ffect will start now in the north a good evening cant good evening. Justine yeah, well focus on the lnu complex fire if we can go to the map here were showing you the Lake Berryessa area. We can zoom in all of this pink area is the fire perimeter that is where the fire is still burning or has already burned you can see all these little dots. Those are thermal images in fire activity taken from the satellite this red area is the evacuation area that is still in effect. You can see these yellow circles on the map here just outside of vacaville, heres the city of vacaville. These are checkpoints and only residents are allowed to go past those checkpoints seasonal purple dots that you see here these are and. Closures so you cannot get through there. There will be police at these checkpoints so they will prevent you from getting into this red area this is the mandatory evacuation area, lets move on to the next map. This shows you the napa side of Lake Berryessa and again all of this. Well first of all this red is the fire perimeter again but then when you add the evacuation. A mandatory evacuation. Area over it it kind of turns into a blue and purple area but all of this is the evacuation area. This a yellow area here is evacuation warning. And this stretches from just east of napa stretching all the way along the foothills above silverado trail. All the way up to calistoga and then you hit the mandatory evacuation area on the east side of highway 29, which of course takes you up to middletown into lake county. So you can see this is the evacuation area there and then finally rounding out the lnu complex we go into Sonoma County and this is still the mandatory evacuation area here in pink the fire zone is this heavier outline of red magenta and then the green area is evacuation warning. Im sorry the green area is the all clear the yellow is evacuation warning this is just outside of healdsburg where this is all taking place dry creek area to the west of dreich week creek is the burn area there you can see the hot spots and the fire activity continuing so justine even though things have calmed down a bit. There are still a lot of people who cannot return to their homes and will not be able to until for the most part either the fires are completely out or even after theyre out a lot of the debris is cleared out fallen trees fallen power lines. Those kinds of things once all of that is finally cleared out. Residents will be allowed to go home justine power has to go back on water has to be restored. Its a long road ahead. Fire crews are on the scene trying to get this huge fire under control. Chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow is joining us now with more on where that storm is headed from here. It is not over yet. No still a lot of problems of course youre not going to see those Hurricane Force winds but weve got some Tropical Storm force winds out there right now you can season making landfall come right near cameron all the way up here stretching through alexandria near shreveport now on making its way up in arkansas were continues bring some very heavy rainfall flash flood watches are up you see some of the winds showing up to some of those winds gusting over 30 even 46 Miles Per Hour in newport right now youre seeing these bands of rain in some of these bands you can get some tornadoes too. So weve got a long way before were done with the storm system yet in fact its going to likely affect much of the east coast as we take you over the next couple days here, the very latest sustained winds now still Tropical Storm strength to 40 Miles Per Hour moving north northeast at 15 so its moving at a pretty good clip. Now if you watch is going to start to make its way toward the eastern seaboard stretching across bringing heavy rain all along that boundary in fact that rain the winds. The gusty winds. The possibility of tornadoes and more flooding all the way out toward the east coast you can see philadelphia right there coming just to the south of that and that could cause some problems as we head in toward the weekend right outside right now the bay area got some patchy fog out there kind of floating on in as we speak, nice to see that fog the firefighters love it is camping all along the california coastline all the way down the Point Conception and thats that nice seabreeze that is bringing low clouds and fog temperatures outside right now very comfortable 85 warm, but not hot in livermore 71 in hayward it is 68 degrees in oakland 72 degrees in the napa valley along the coastline little bit cooler in fact, San Francisco checking in at 58 degrees. Without what we did the 26 with 30 homes that we saved what burned to the ground because there was no one there to help in any way shape or form. Hes not knocking cal fire. He knows crews are spread very thin because of so many fires burning in california. But even though cal fire has been challenged here by a lack of resources. Preserving life over the property rescue says some of his squad were offduty firefighters and they were even able to help supply water to the official crews. They ran into wasnt just a bunch of you know bill running around the mountains. Im thinking its funny dropped trees and get way out fires. Despite all their efforts there was still. A lot of heartbreak, i know that we could have personally saved. So many more homes if we would have had access to a radio better communication even just like to volunteer water trucks, tenders and if you fire truck. You know along with our eightman crew could have saved the other 30 homes have burned in front of our eyes, he hopes Going Forward cal fire can help find ways to utilize and even equipped. Will you so they can Work Together during extreme crisis situations. Maureen kelly kron 4 news. Now once again with our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow for more on the conditions outside right now which includes our air quality. Will we see any relief from that really terrible smoky air yeah we breathe deeply some part of the bay area seeing some very nice fresh air moving in right now and the San Francisco along parts of the coastline, half moon bay. Thats pretty typical get very good quality or even along the coast, san mateo youre looking good all the way to live more now that the nice fresh air stretches into san ramon parts of concord. Then it starts to get a little sketchy get a fairfield modern mount to see some of those plumes kind still building up in the atmosphere and thats what were going to see until they put these fires out air quality forecast over the next couple days here we go up or quote another spare the air for tomorrow, good air quality along the immediate coastline in moderate amounts ability of the east and the south bay looking por as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. You can see that hes out there in the sky you can see a mix of some of smoke in the some low clouds and fog trying to form. Well see more that overnight tonight a little less marine lehrers i think as we head in toward the next couple days highpressure the kind of staff so that means probably some of the smoke kind of building up outside temperatures around the bay area right now 57 degrees in San Francisco, 68 in oakland 74 degrees in san jose 85 degrees in little word is currently 85 warm in concord and 75 degrees in santa rosa tonight going to see some low cloud and fog stretching on shore, although i dont think its going to be quite as thick. Maybe a little patchy drizzle along the coastline. Then hazy sunshine for tomorrow. Temperatures going to heat up going to be hot in some spots inland, mostly sunny for the weekend. Some hotter temperatures the valley still a little trough that carved out along the west coast here and that will keep things from getting too hot least along the keep the fog in place for tomorrow, hazy conditions continuing around the bay area but the temperatures. Yeah, its going start to heat up in spots inland as were looking at 94 degrees in little more about 93 in concord see a lot of 70s and 80s inside the bay along the coastline. Still some patchy fog in some 60s next couple days you can see some sunshine and some fog otherwise, a boy the temperatures heating up tomorrow bit.
