Get as it relates to the czu complex fires as the santa cruz, San Mateo County fires and this is a live picture from. The podium there where we expect cal fire officials to speak momentarily. So this News Conference was scheduled to get underway the top of the hour. So were probably moments away from that happening, well keep an eye on the shot and the minute they come there to the microphone to give us the very latest will jump back to our live coverage but right now lets cover the lnu complex fire which is in the north bay. This map shows you the area burned around sonoma napa and solano counties kron fours sara stinson is live in napa county with a closer look at the damage to homes and other property sarah. The devastation is hard to see with your own eyes and i hope by us being live here you can really get a good idea of how awful the hennessy fire has been ripping through napa county salon a county here alive above Lake Berryessa in this Highlands Community look at this this is a garage behind me and as you can see its flattened and just crush by that fire warped by the flames if you continue to look this way you can see more devastation this is a home down the street from the one i was at earlier on poppy lane and you can see just complete destruction in the area, those hills youre seeing behind you or the hills that surround Lake Berryessa all those hills are charred, its just miles and miles and youre driving up here of burned land now were going to live here all morning long to get more into the weeds of the l a new lightning complex but for now and the press conference down in the south bay, send it back to you guys. Yeah well take that live right now thanks a lot sarah. Lets take that live with how fire santos Santa Cruz Unit in line officer on the incident. As always if you could just meet your many devices you might have taking conversations away from the press conference area. We also asked you keep your masks on at all times during this press conference and we will have a moment at the end ask questions of all the representatives up here as well as some time for one on one conversations after the conference is over. Just a quick update. This morning for the 6 oclock numbers the czu lightning complex is now 80,008 0 1137 acres in size. Were staying in 19 containment. And there are still 24,000 plus structures that are threatened by the incident. Enforcing this morning we can confirm that there are now 538 structures that have been destroyed in this fire. 11 of which are in San Mateo County. 527 of those structures destroyed or in Santa Cruz County. There is a web site chief deputy clark mentioned last night, the Santa Cruz County has put up people wear and what those addresses are online. Tonight as of this morning, we have 1697 personnel assigned to the incident and overview and update on what the actual operations are going on out in the field. Cal Fire Incident Management Team 3 ops section chief mark brunton. Past couple days weve been able to make a significant progress on our fire fight. Weve been able to establish more lines can to improve those lines that we have established and getting that another day closer to 2. Extinction is fire. As you can see we have a some on the maps and the black but that signifies is that they have the fire extinguished, were holding it. We have lines established around it. And we feel very very confident that that has been secured and again thats up there. It would be called a vision of golf and key low. Thats an area is was critical so that if we did have the spread to the north east and threatening santa clara county. So we button that up and thats and a patrol a mop up type status. Moving along the north zone again. Become a park we do have some active flames on the ridge we do have the lines established as you can see on the map and were slowly let that fire creep down as part of our strategy. So that we can make it in and fully extinguish that fire. I anticipate within the next couple days and with weather expecting that that we should be successful in debt that endeavor puts more a black leaning on the map. Im moving down again were continuing with some 4 extinguishment of of the of the fire throughout the western or personal fire. Comey were looking with her of the structure looking every energizing with power here with it today if not sooner and then again. Or lines willing those lines above that community and taking advantage of the weather to to start a full extinguishment of any sort of fire sitting about that community down to the south are control lines are holding to the south as well as or of this year secondary line. So we do have a really good protection for the community of santa cruz. And the usi campus. Moving up the 9 quarters which has been a challenge for us with the communities of a the film them and Boulder Creek downpour. Over here then weve been able to get some more good control lines up above. On the the the fire. Were continue to do work and prove that weve got some good line in black in the line extinguish the fire above a good portion of felton todays operation has been critical theyve been preparing working on this. For the past 2 days really. And what we have a plan on is later this afternoon early evening is lines been constructed we have the preparations in place to do a burn operation which will of black in line bring the fire up to the fire that hung up on the un to the ridge top. That will eliminate that issue and what that will do is create very nice. Barrier. For that the fire around the community of film that will then a button up that part of the fire but felt and so that is excellent news to take a couple days once we do that to continue to mop up. You got the hot spots and then render that safe and get her Utility Companies in there to do their job. As we finish that will be moving up towards the moment in that line will actually come to the south end of moment, so that line would only protect home but the bottom end of the moment as we continue continue to progress. The moment and into Boulder Creek. We continue to work diligently up there. We have a lot of resources a Boulder Creek. From cal fire in our other allied agencies. Theyre working diligently. Expel putting the line again very difficult terrain and working among a number of structures and well have a lot of success in the coming were looking at trying to get that completed just like we are in these other communities are marching, and preparing as we go ahead of time and implementing those operations that strategy. By looking really again painstaking process lot of homes in there were working around all those homes control lines put in extinguishing the fire around structures and then the big thing is opening the roads into the interior of the fire. With all the trees that have come down. The power lines so forth weve been able to establish a group thats gone inserting yesterday getting deep into some of these road systems some a little bit more work than others but that a group is a working in doing that work with the county roads in a variety of other agencies to get in and then once we get in we rendered safe, getting the Utility Companies in right behind us so they can start. Repairing and in putting back that infrastructure. Were doing the same thing on highway working with caltrans and doing the same kind of operation. So we can start opening that in getting interior to these other areas once we can also get interior are inspections teams can get in and start doing their so we can get to that taken care of as well so its a multifaceted effort is part of the 60 which meant the process. Former program the air is looking very favorable with the weather so were going to be flying once again our aircraft. The past few days we topped out the amount of hours we can flatter aircraft. Every day were weve been dropping more more water as of yesterday. They dropped her from their work 6 copters 256,000 gallons of water in one day. Thats pretty significant. Were timing our aircraft that significant every day we see more and more thats in the support of our Ground Troops taking care of those hot spots and so forth to this point are copters have dropped over one 0. 6 million gallons of water since the beginning of this event so were using all the tools that we have available to us to working assumption is targeting a everybodys back their lives back to normal. Thank you. Speaking next from the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Offices chief deputy chris clark. Well good morning. Answers some positive news continuing that the you know the the theme of of not a lot of people run around same situation last thankfully is there was a the night before and yesterday. So again going into our now our 3rd operational period without an arrest and even last night we didnt we had no citations so were seeing a lot of people that are that are really doing what were asking him to do and kind of staying out of those areas is you just heard that she front mentioned you know getting those resources and repair the roads to prepare. Power lines and things like that which are obviously pieces of the plan to repopulate those areas and make sure that quickly. So last night as i at the at the last press conference officers running around last night making sure that basically everything is safe. Again were going to continue that today with 70 deputies and officers 30 from our agency 20 from inside the county with our allied partners here from different inside Santa Cruz County and 20 mutual aid from over the hill. Last night we respond to 14 calls for service 6 welfare checks. Im in touch on a couple of those here in just a minute maid suspicious people. So fortunately last night though we did get a welfare of for a 63 yearold woman who was last spoken to on monday sir friend last talked to her monday evening and her for a couple days and so she called us and we went out to her home and felt them and unfortunately found her deceased. We believe its Natural Causes at this point which which caused her death. There is no signs of foul play no signs of forced entry anything like that which would give us any suspicion that anybody did anything to her are caused her death but nonetheless, really kind of a sad as far as thats concerned and then. Secondly a welfare check for someone who potentially had a so they this person evacuated from the area. In Boulder Creek they had been in a theyve done what we asked them to do they left the area. And were staying with a friend up up until monday and they left sometime monday evening. Their friend called us during the night last night to say they hadnt heard from him because there is a conversation is this person wanted to go back try to sneak back into the evacuated area to their home and so right now were actively looking for that person to find out kind of where they are and make sure that theyre ok. You know i just a couple things one is that we want to get you back home we really but there are dangers to sneaking back into the evacuated area. That i mean if you just you just dont know i mean you might not know the terrain. You might not know the area you could get lost and then you know we want to we want to help you, but what it what it does is it it divides our resources in the sense that you know where were going to see you know were going to send people to tough to find you and this case thats exactly were going to do and thats ok too we want to make sure this person is ok. I just want to discourage people from from from doing that you know so it doesnt divider resources. But nonetheless if we find this i will definitely let you know and thats what were doing right now. On another piece of that is is again if you see if you if you havent heard from a friend and thats how these 2 calls came in i would encourage you if you havent heard from someone. Then you think that they remained in the evacuated area or potentially were returning please give us a call at our dispatch number thats a 3, 1, 4, 7, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 8, 3, 1, 4, 7, 1, 1, 1, to one give us a call and well do exactly what we did last night you know we do security checks on homes to make sure nobodys rob breaking in. But at the same time we want to make sure that people are safe and accounted for and so if you havent heard from a friend definitely give us a call. And then lastly just a touch the the website that you heard chief cox mention, and i mentioned it last night. You know we we can completely understand you want to know kind of the status of your house, especially if you think its in adana fire damage area. And so just want to reiterate that web site again thats Santa Cruz County. Ford slash fire recovery. Ford slash Damage Assessment map. Weve got asp x that Santa Cruz County fort slash fire recovery. Slash Damage Assessment map dot aspx and give you some information put your address in there. Well tell you whether or not your house has been damaged its ok. Were or hopefully destroyed thank you. Up next from the San Mateo County Sheriffs Office detective blanks way. Good morning, no changes for San Mateo County. But we do want to say thank you to everybody who donated the diapers baby formula and School Supplies at the san mateo event center. For those of you who are interested in helping out in other ways you can also make financial donations to plant a in pescadero as well as the red cross. We also want to say how grateful we are for all the support that were seeing from the Community Whether its online messages or a couple restaurants have donated including alices restaurant up on skyline and 84. Its just incredibly motivating our First Responders and support staff see these messages and these comments weve seen signs as well out in the community and we cant tell you how much it means to us right now so thank you very much for all that support and gratitude its heard and felt. Speaking next on behalf of all of the agencies and unified commanders calFire Incident Management Team 3 i see billy c. A good morning. Was we had Great Success on the line. We are clean air able to fly or aircraft, a free tour able to get in there and develop some firmer control room this. There was a lot of. There was a lot of a smoke production in the air that was very visible. Well from highway 17 corridor. When we get cleaner and its visible the a fire is just slowly moving down of the slope. In a barn around the structures above felt member moment. Its very visible from this area. Obviously we have a lot of our fighting forces on the ground and you heard the Operational Plan were going to be doing later this afternoon its a burning operations to control that fire on our terms were going to be working diligently to secure that warren over the next 24 to 48 hours and bring that down very safely and slowly into what were going to consider her control protecting these communities walkabout off with that said obviously when the smoke starts to clear all the residents do very restless about trying to get back in and want to know when the evacuation orders and warnings will be lifted. Were going to be working with their counterparts in the Law Enforcement agencies. To develop a Strategic Plan to start bringing folks in weve all right started to identify that we could potentially start looking at lifting some evacuation orders and moved to evacuation warnings. So please be patient. Its a process were going to work through it. Well obviously our biggest concern when we start bringing folks back in and lifting some of the orders is making sure that we build a good Strong Foundation for all those residents meaning that we have good roadways for them to travel on. We have secured all the utilities and make sure its safe and make sure we have water for them so they have this central necessities to live with. So thats the pieces that were going to continue to work on identifying those fixing any issues and get these folks back to a sense of normalcy as soon as possible. Thank you. And a final speaker this morning from the local cal fire unit. California chief market. Good morning. As as you see were starting to make some progress though its in that article it is it is happening. For those are using the web site for Santa Cruz County to if your property sustain any damage or has been destroyed. I just want to make a preface it take note that our damage inspection is still ongoing. It has not fully been completed yet because your house may not be represented on that map as having damage are being destroyed. As a damage inspection that continues to move those numbers may increase. And will those properties are added to that each day so. Be mindful that time just because its not there today, doesnt mean it might not be there tomorrow. So for folks that have a sustained damage or need assistance. Theres a areas that may give you right now can be of assistance to you and that some you can go to the Disaster Assistance dot gov web site thats a Disaster Assistance dot gov. There are some resources there for folks that time are in need. And then also you can download the fema app from the android and apple platforms. Whats gets iffy map. If you dont have the ability to download that application. You can call fema directly and thats 1 800. 6, 2, 1, fema. Thats 1 800 6, 2, 1, fema. And there are some that assistance for those who may have Small Businesses. That need assistance you can also go to Small Business administration. Thats a Small Business administration and theres Resources Available to you to help you with effort once again at the troops on the ground and then some Management Team that are here along with our cooperating agencies both the sheriffs departments for san mateo and Santa Cruz County. We are working diligently as quickly as possible to make the environment is safe as possible for us to repopulate the that are affected and so they said theyre with us as we move through this that were moving as fast as we can and well do our best attempt to get this wrapped up in get us back home. So thank you. All right happy to answer any questions you might have. Okay so we just got done listening to the official updates there from the czu fire by cal fire in various Law Enforcement as it stands this morning is still 90 contained, but theyre optimistic they can start making some more headway to we heard the fire chief there talking about thats the hope that they make that progress over the next couple days like theyre looking to make only one of the many fires that welcome back 6. 23 on this wednesday morning a look outside at sfo shows some cloud cover sitting about the bay area and overall some much Clear Conditions as far as hayes goes we are seeing haze starting to settle back down into the inland the east bay right now as well as the Santa Cruz Mountains so be mindful of that likely to see changes in air quality over these next few hours. 60s and 70s along the coast in bay with 80s and just a few 90s for inland cities today. Tomorrow will be a tad warmer but not by much and then a touch warmer yet come friday and saturday. I learned humira can help get, and keep uc under control when other medications havent worked well enough. And it helps people achieve control that lasts. So you can experience few or no symptoms. Humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. Serious, sometimes fatal infections and cancers, including lymphoma, have happened; as have blood, liver, and nervous system problems, serious allergic reactions, and new or worsening heart failure. Back at jack in the box. 6. 30 right now and thanks for tuning in on a wednesday morning it is a kind of breezy on there and cooling off which is nice a little bit yeah and that helps at least on the air quality front. The firefight of course continues all across the bay area. There is progress being made however, and thats the good news that we should focus on this morning cal fire saying the lnu complex fire in the north bay is now 27 contained so theyre better than a quarter of the way around it. The scu lightning complex fires in parts of the east and south asia now 20 contained and the czu august lightning complex fire burning in san mateo and santa cruz counties. Now 19 contained again that theyre holding the line we heard that live update. Live on our air here in the last hour cal fire says that cooler weather and extra resources coming from outside the bay area have been really beneficial in helping firefighters get a handle on the situation we have Team Coverage, lets go to the czu lightning complex fire in San Mateo County and santa cruz counties and you can see. One area that encompasses on this map kron fours will tran is live at the Cal Fire Base Camp and Scotts Valley with the latest well. Area the News Conference is still taking place but we wanted to step out to give you the very latest numbers right now theyre sitting at 80,137 acres that was only up a few 100 acres, so theyre very happy about that in the overnight hours i can tell you there is sad news if you broke away from the News Conference before they get to this particular point they did find they did find one elderly woman inside a home in felt in her family and friends did not see or hear from her since monday. They called for a welfare check they went back inside and thats when they found or they believe that she died from Natural Causes so at this particular point they do not believe she died from the fire. But of course they still need to do an autopsy on that as far as the containment number 19 containment that is still the same as what we saw going into the overnight hours the cal fire says they will take it conditions on wonderful. They say fantastic they want to take advantage of that to the point where get this guys for the past couple of days, they have dropped more than 200 56,000 gallons of water every day ever since this started they dropped to one 0. 6 million gallons on the fire to help the boots on the ground so they hope to make significant progress over the next several days. You might notice that the acreage has not exploded especially with the fire that they still call burning out of control. They credit that guys because of controlled burns, so if youre in the area where youre still not evacuated yet. But they are doing controlled burns, they say dont be alarmed dont be fearful that if you see extra smoke near your home, theyre actually fighting fire with fire. Getting all that vegetation out of the way in a very controlled manner and because of that establishing those lines thats why we did not see those numbers explode from say 79,000 acres to over a 100,000 acres as far as the fire were only seeing maybe a 1000 acres every day and a lot of those a courage, a lot of those acres happens to be controlled burns, the point where right now santa cruz you see santa cruz and the heart of San Mateo County are not touched by the fire will have much more on an update on the czu lightning complex fire. Still 19 contained, but i can tell you they are very happy with what theyre doing especially given this weekend it will be much drier hotter so this window of opportunity they hope to take full advantage of it back to you. All right, thanks a lot. Well now lets continue our Team Coverage by going to the north bay thats where the lnu complex fires currently burning and heres the map showing the current fire lines on the right side of your screen of course its engulfed. Lake berryessa and then we see more fires burning 2 on the left side of the map to out in Sonoma County but its Sonoma Napa Solano counties all impacted. Well for Sarah Stinson live for us in napa county with a closer look at some of the damage there now seran with the sun coming up were getting a better look. Yeah james im able to show you way better look now that the sun is rising especially since a lot of people who live in this area cant come up here yet highway one 21 1. 28 are still close some of the show you what im seeing with my eyes here above me you can see thats a chimney just standing the home right there burned down right behind me look that is someones garage just completely warped by the flames and this is 2 homes back to back burned all thats left is rubble in the distance you can see those hills those are above Lake Berryessa below us is still canyon resort. You can see in the distance all of that charred land at one point those were just engulfed in flames and just continued to burn and rage towards this Community Called the Highlands Community and whats crazy is to see is when this entire side of the road populating is burned and then the other side of the road is just standing normal peoples have boats are in their their cars left there. Its just so crazy to see those homes completely standing and then across the street these homes destroyed and left just enough thing this is just not salvageable and its hard for people to go through this is going to be a very tough couple of weeks as people return home. The devastation is overwhelming across napa county and lake various as area just seeing miles and miles of charred land. I dont think ive ever seen so much of burt land in my whole career reporting on fires highway one 2121 as i said still have roadblocks you can access this area. So yesterday i saw family somehow able to get in they were searching through the rubble it was awful to see know at last check which could change were waiting for an update from cal fire should be about 20 minutes from now the hennessy fire has burned 80 of the total 356,000 acres in the l a new lightning complex its still 27 contained. Up here in the north bay hundreds of people evacuated from their homes in the fires first erupted we have cell phone footage of the family doing so over a week ago, and it was just a traumatic experience am leaving their homes not knowing if theyre still be standing there when they come back, 978 structures have been destroyed in this complex we met some of the people who lost everything. Its like being eviscerated. Its a guiding an emotional your heart is broken because literally you know, i mean i have when i left here i have one birkenstock. I have 4 pairs of underwear time name. And getting. Clothes im wearing the building and you know, i mean its your life changes and that you have to face rebuilding. And unfortunately this is a situation a lot of people have already been through in napa county Sonoma County. Everyone whos experience previous fires are still much containment to be gained 30,000 more structures are at risk this is the 3rd largest fire in state history, its left 5 people dead, and its still threatening those 30,000 structures right now im not seeing any fire burning actively but look at how close this was you can see where this burned home is and the charred land behind me you can see the fire just kept raging and they were able to stop it right here at the st. And save the home behind me save a whole side of the street behind me poppy lane again now were in we live here all morning to show you different areas above Lake Berryessa in napa county show you the damage and the devastation caused by the hennessy fire. For now ill send it back to you. Hi thanks a lot sarah. Lets continue our Team Coverage now of the s c you lightning complex fire and you can see the areas burn on your screen and this map alameda contra costa and santa clara counties have all been affected by this complex of fires kron fours reyna harvey is covering out live from the east bay looking at the damage there reyna. Yeah thats right in line little more off of del valle and minds road as you can see quite a lot going on behind me Law Enforcement they have this road blocked off here in del valle well theyre not allowing people to go up unless they live in the area and you have to provide proof that you live here now again you can smell the smoke for more on that in just over the horizon there looks like fog that smoke from the fire now again. This fire now making history. This is the second largest fire in our States History and you can see this was sent to us by people who wore initially trying to get out of the area they were evacuating and they stop you can see the fire over the hill, the air a lot of devastation come to this area in terms of some of the homes that have been actually burned to the ground you can see here. Now this fire said said over 300,000 acres and got a little handle on it so far about 20 containment now we spoke to some of the residents in the area who had to evacuate as you can imagine it was traumatic for many of the families now this is up in the mountain areas so there are a lot of grass and thats whats causing the fire to spread through the air. Although weve seen a few structures about less than 20 that have been destroyed theres still about 20 1000 structures in the area that are threatened so Law Enforcement trying to keep the roads clear a blocked off to keep people safe and for some firefighters are trying to put out this fire have been injured so again still a very dangerous fire in this area that Law Enforcement and fire crews are working around the clock to try to get out. For now reporting here live a more rain on harvey kron 4 news, thanks reyna. Well, nows a good time to download the kron 4 mobile app and our kron on app thats our 24 7 news streaming service that will allow you to stay connected with the latest on the fire dangers across the area and get updates on Weather Forecast as well the latest Power Outages too if they become necessary to download the app today and lets continue our Team Coverage and go to john scher able he is tracking. The heat and the wind conditions in these fires john yeah because we have been looking at some steady winds last night but more than anything these winds actually brought some relief in the form of a deep in marine layer that also pushed some fog in fog is very welcome during these times, especially a little closer to the coast. And that wind actually cooling us off across the bay area today, one of the coolest days of your forecast as of right now fog is definitely thick right along the coastline and up into the east bay hills certainly not going to last all day and we have abundant blue skies returning. Some haze definitely returning for inland areas already starting to see air quality not as good as it was at the very start of the morning for some of our most inland areas so that smoke is starting to settle back down. So be mindful of that as you do plan or wednesday out skies will be clear is a promise to today and temperatures on some of our coolest in a while look at where were going to be heading 60s near the coast 70s by the bay and 80s and just a couple 90s for inland arsas. James all right john thank you coming up in the next hour, the kron 4 morning news, the first lady and nations top diplomat. Right now lets get a check of the weather weve got john trouble in the Weather Center for us this morning talking about a slightly cooler start to the day john yeah, i like that cool weather and i think our firefighters are liking it too were cooler where fog year. Were a little bit clear this morning too. You see outside the fog thats hanging out over the east bay this morning, a deep in marine layer last night pushed in keeping us cool keeping conditions pretty damp for your morning, you actually got a little coastal drizzle right there along the coastline, some of our worst air quality right now is centered right above the Santa Cruz Mountains as we are continuing to see smoke being put up buyer south bay wildfires.
