Lightning complex fire still burning check out this map the shows exactly how much the fire has burned. Kron fours will tran reporting live at the Cal Fire Base Camp and Scotts Valley, he has the latest for us well. It has burned so far approximately 78,800 acres up about 1100 acres from yesterday and so thats all. Good news as far as cal fire because its still chewing up the area but they are slowly but surely getting the upper hand on this fire. Containment number also up its now 17 last night going into the overnight hours. It was around 13 . So they are making some progress and they expect to make even more progress in a mardi robin because the conditions are in their favorite is not a smoky this morning, not as windy humidity levels rising get all those things together and that basically means they can tell the pilot to once again take to the skies and thats what they did yesterday. Its one of the tools in their tool box but it is a major tool that they can use yesterday they dropped 200,000 gallons of water down to the fire is still burning for about the past 8, 8 or 9 days ever since it started with lightning strikes and sunday in the overnight hours. But they have been able to protect right now santa cruz, and you see santa cruz theres a good line between the fire and that those 2 locations, santa cruz, and you see santa cruz. So thats the good news, there as far as the evacuations 77,000 people have been told to evacuate and no you can not return at this time and a lot of people it looks like they are paying attention because in the overnight hours the santa cruz Sheriffs Department. They were not as busy as they were the past couple days. Some positive news on the fire from our standpoint positive news from us and really. The report i got back this morning was it not a lot of people running around and it was fairly quiet night which is a good thing you know thats people i think heating that evacuee heeding that warning heating at order to stay out of the evacuated area to let people work inside is continue to encourage that. I got to tell you though the number of missing people missing persons cases that actually went up 3 additional and so now theyre sitting at 7 it was for yesterday and they believe about for those cases. Or for those people in fire areas so they dont know if theyre still in there at this time and cannot get out or in the worst Case Scenario they died from the fire and they can i make a positive confirmation at this time because theres so much debris on the roadway from the fallen trees in this area has a lot of wooden bridges and those bridges have been destroyed so they need to get in there safely for the fire crews and the investigators to look at the home see which homes are destroyed which are still there and the ones that are still there maybe make entry into those homes to try to track down the 7 missing people at this time again they hope to make a lot of progress today because they know conditions will change by the end of the week when it will get warmer. But they say the number one factor mardy and robin that they look at or that wind conditions and if its anything below 20 Miles Per Hour which he was yesterday. They tell their pilot hurry up get into the plane get up there and today they hope to drop more than 200 gallons of water down to the flames back to you. All right, its good to hear that theyre making progress and now up to 17 containment. Thank you well marty. We want to continue our Team Coverage on the lnu complex fire thats burning to the north bay. The map on your screen shows where the complex of fires are burning in sonoma napa and solano counties kron 4 Sarah Stinson reporting for us live from napa county this morning shes been taking a closer look at damaged homes and property sarah. Marty im now live at a Mobile Home Park in napa county its called compel Valley Estates and one mobile home was completely destroyed thats the one behind me you can see the charred barbecue the whole back of it is completely ripped through by the flames. Theres not even a roof we zoom in on there. Inside i saw a childs room that was destroyed. This is going to be a total loss the one next door to it is only partially damaged. But the fact that they were able to stop the flames from not raging all the way through this Mobile Home Park is a miracle because as a manager one of the managers of this property said these things go up so easily like a matchstick he said and so its unbelievable that this didnt all just turned down, but they were able to stop i could still see the fire hose that they used because in the distance you can see where that fire is came through here. This is the hennessy fire up in napa county where a lot of homes have been destroyed and businesses such as wineries places like that now we just got an update from cal fire the entire ellen new lightning complex which the hennessy fire actually comprises the most from land of it went up about almost 2000 acres. Its now at 352,913 acres and it went up in containment which i expected so theyve gained 2 containment at a total of 27 containment of the l a new lightning complex. Now the hennessy fire its burned as i said the most of this complex its a 296,000 acres and so that has been one of the biggest concentrating on their efforts here. But its a lot of just wild land and like homes are very space tell when you drive up highway one 28 you can just see miles and miles of charred land 7 driving around here. Now the sun is up you can get a better idea of what has been destroyed and yesterday, you know the concern was that red flag warning they were worried the wind was going to pick up and i was just going to make the fight even harder fortunately that red flag warning was canceled and that allowed fire crews to get a better handle on the raging flames. The other than to save homes otherwise could have been destroyed and so as we saw in the numbers to percent more containment know that sounds so little but really every per cent counts when its this big of a fire. Now we caught up someone who says that because the wind cool down. Part of that his property was able to be saved. Winds were really with us. We warning we were expecting northern winds coming through, they never showed up and the the fire really never i mean it it constantly burned and but from slower than what they expected so theyre really saved us gave us time to really work. And so that was really good and now the fight but also since firefighters are getting more containment on this fire here the hennessy fire. They will be allowing more residents to go in and see whats left of their home. Its going to be a tough couple of days to 4 who people who live in the area of napa county. Here at capitol cut pell Valley Estates who got to talk the manager or the the partner and hes going to talk to me about this so make sure to join us in about 20 minutes. Well have that for you he really explains know how close of a call was for here and its going to be you know wild to see these a mandatory evacuations become mandatory warnings. When you know more people can come through here and see the damage especially for someone who owns a home like this, i mean the devastation is just hard to see for now ill send it back to you marty gras been its really heartbreaking sarah. Thanks. A lot for that live report from the north bay robin. And now moving on to the scu lightning complex fire. You can see on your screen where the fires are burning right now in alameda contra costa and santa clara counties. The flames have spread more than 360,000 acres containment is at 15 . And we do have an interactive map on our website at kron 4 dot com that shows you all of the fires that are now burning and the location of all the Evacuation Centers in the bay area. We also have a list of up to date evacuation orders and warnings on our website at kron 4 dot com. Well the fires of course continue to have a major impact on the air quality in the bay area we have this map to show you that shows just how bad the air quality is there you get a good look at it now keep in mind that the darker the color. The worse the air quality so you can see in the North Bay South bay and tri valley area in the east bay have the worst air quality right now, lets go ahead and learn more about this this morning with days has the latest for us in the Weather Center. Hi dave hey good morning marty good morning everybody following that with the wind pattern that we see here westerly to northwesterly kind of pushes everything in the obvious directions. Reese all the patches there in solano county. Coming in from napa meanwhile a lot of this in the east bay because tripping up from the north bay also in the south bay everything is pointing pretty much from north to northwesterly as the flow pattern and so thats pushing the smoke that goes with it live shot comes in from san jose state and again we have kind of a hazy sunshine to start things off and the fog some of which bowl mixed out, but well be left with of course the smoke. This is what happens as we mix it out in the early afternoon, its just a memory for most of the bay except along the coast. Thats where we may have kind of overcast skies just about all day today. Snap and back to greet us tomorrow and thats good news because we need that marine layer, not much the way of winds that another check and given that marine layer backs we like that be nice to have a nice little stratus all day rain but you know well take we can get 60s off to the east bay. If hes up to the north bay 61 for nevado 58 for San Francisco, 64 meanwhile for san jose. For the lineup today after we take care of the morning fog the inland areas by 11 00am 76 as we clear out 86 by 02 00pm of course with the smoke still lingering a little bit well take a closer inspection your forecast coming up in a bit robin all right. One of the last places to kind of clear that fog out winds not too active today. We like that even though they are on shore want to keep the winds down Single Digits to come over most of the geography. Meanwhile, those temperatures lower to middle 60s off to the east bay, we got the 50s 61 here, 58 meanwhile for San Francisco in 64 to check in for san jose. Now that moisture lets watch this again. Now this afternoon, this drops off into the 60s and 50s but thats typical in the afternoon that we can deal with even along the coast. Its a quite elevated, so thats good then floods us again tomorrow morning expect more the way of fog degree chew. Tomorrow afternoon. It will drop a little bit lower than were looking at today but still staying in a pretty good range 40s. And some 50s with all about this is the game plan a we have today we got the thick morning, fog in some spots clearing out. Mild for the bay little warm in londons but speaking of which is going to be warming up even more so as we finish off the week and those in the locations pushing middle to even upper 90s at that on into your weekend. And coming up on the kron 4 morning news First Responders warning people not to drive past road closures and the wildfire zones, they say its very dangerous. During the smoky conditions you can see so youre a small business, or a big one. You were thriving, but then. Oh. Ah. Okay. Plan, pivot. How do you bounce back . You dont, you bounce forward, with serious and reliable internet. Powered by the largest gig Speed Network in america. But is it secure . Sure its secure. And even if the power goes down, your connection doesnt. So how do i do this . You dont do this. We do this, together. Bounce forward, with comcast business. Welcome back everyone road closures and wildfire zones are there to keep people safe First Responders say that even they have trouble driving in wildfire conditions. Kron fours has it been your reports. Do not go around road closures in wildfire zones. Daytime. Were live at night time around thats the message from bay area Law Enforcement agencies who ward ignoring the closures could cost you your life. Weve gets you its not the flames in the fight, its the smoke is tremendous amounts look this is video from deputies with the Alameda County Sheriffs Office that are assigned to the scu lightning complex fire big rocks on the days other words. Stop deputies cited ray kelly described a recent situation while trying to drive in these dangerous conditions and it was 1 oclock in the afternoon. It was pitch black up there on the roads you cannot see. With the amount of smoke. There is no daylight or your future headlights on your vehicle you can barely see the road. And so trying to navigate and operate in an environment like that even as a trained firefighter or Law Enforcement person is is almost impossible and if youre a someone whos not experienced in those environments, youre looking for trouble. While officials with the Sheriffs Office say they understand why someone may think its worth the risk to go around a road closure. Deputies say it is their duty to warn the public. And to prevent that action if possible. Were not going to allow you to go into an area where we know theres a high likelihood that you can get killed. And so were not going to. The reader has it made you kron 4 i will try and live in Scotts Valley where firefighters are still dealing with a c c you lightning complex fire, right now they have made significant progress good morning. Thanks so much for staying with us at the half hour the kron 4 morning news, our top story that were following for you this morning of course the latest on the wildfires burning around the bay area. Yeah lets begin in san mateo and santa cruz counties thats where the czu lightning complex fire continues to burn. The map on your screen shows just how much the fire has burned thus far kron fours will tran reporting live this morning for us from the Cal Fire Base Camp and Scotts Valley. He has the latest and some good news for us hi well. Good news marty containment number is now 17 and that is up from 13 look over my Left Shoulder i want to show you the conditions, theyre great and they expect the conditions to be relatively the same as yesterday which is why they were able to make so much headroom yes, 17 containment is not that much. But they were able to keep the acreage relatively down because its only gone up a 1000 acres and basically a full day you can see the trees not swaying back and forth that is fog guys thats not smoke breathing. Incredibly better today than it was yesterday when it was extremely smokey so the fog is helping out as well, not windy will allow them to go back up to the air which is what they did yesterday with aircraft for the First Time Since this fire started and because of that they were able to drop 200,000 gallons of water down to the flames they expect to do the same if not more today. I can tell you though because the fire is still churning through this area. They now 330 homes have been destroyed homes and structures and thats up from approximately 280 yesterday, so its still destroying homes and they expect that number to go up because part of the firefighting effort today is to send crews to try to clear the roadway. Theres so much fallen trees debris bridges, there are a lot of wooden bridges in this area that have been destroyed. They hope to make inroads into a hard to reach spots and when they go in there. They will look at the damage to their homes and start to count which homes are still there and which ones are gone so they expect that number to go up as far as injuries, no major injuries to anybody in the overnight hours including the firefighters, although the missing persons case guys is guys. Thats gone up. 3 was for yesterday now its up to 7. They hope to go into those places again and maybe those people are trapped, they cant get out because of the wooden bridges that were destroyed. So they hope to get that number down as well a lot of progress made and they say this any time the wind is 20 Miles Per Hour or less. Thats when they tell their pilot get back up in the air. Do some work, especially for the next couple of days because they expect the conditions to change as we get closer to the weekend with the winds picking back up. And the heat so good news today, guys back to you. All right well, thank you for the update. Well now we want to continue our Team Coverage on the lnu complex fire thats burning in the north bay. Take a look at the map on your screen. It shows where the complex of fires are burning in sonoma napa and solano counties kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live in napa county is shes taking a closer look at the damage homes and property sarah. Yes, we know that firefighters gained 2 containment on the l a new lightning complex. The hennessy fire has burned majority of the complex and im live here and that the county where were seeing a lot of damage a lot of destruction behind me is a mobile home that burned down. Its a part of the capella states in napa county. You can see the rubble here. The roof is all off because firefighters had to do all obviously a lot of damage to get it to stop burning because this home is right next to a lot of while land in that would have continued to burn into more homes. Including. One of the managers boyfriends us managers helps which is across the street. This is scott lilly. Thank you for joining us and talking to us, i know you evacuated just as flames were coming this area and then when you came back, it actually started to erupt at your property. Yeah relive soon as i pulled up, i see smoke come out of the roof, the. Insulation in the roof was on fire they left those behind and i happened to grab those in. Hosing down the roof our michael county made a phone call we got see cal fire over here within 5 minutes or just right down the street here that caught fire station. They put their boys up on the roof and they cut on the roof and. They managed keep the rest of the parks im going to go. Now this mobile home specifically is a total loss, but think about i mean there how many how many homes are there in states and how more just devastate age of 60 a 60 units in this area yeah we could it could devastate it for sure. And you live across the street. So you probably were pretty worried. Yeah it was pretty close to home thats for sure. And describe what it was like when youre evacuating you said that the fire jumped the road. I mean how intense was it. Apparently a structure down the street here. Caught fire there propane tank exploded and. Created some kind of havoc over there that. Made everything come out of control and then a become sweeping this way and you can see that through the field burn for son nick came this way we had a a good sized fire break. But its still cut this cut this pine tree in next thing you know one thing leads to another this deck is on fire and its just traveling is traveling it jumped the road on that side i had already vax the from the park and i was on the corner and i can see on. Monticello road where it had jumped over. One 21. I think it is time for me to go because. There may be a time where i cant get out of here, you know some people stayed. I picked up build my family was down in the down in fairfield sos. She will be with them and a good thing to evacuate and even though were seeing a lot of devastation you said that. I think for the most part the communities coming together like like weve done in previous fires that the people that have stayed here were all helping each other out. Cal fires helping out and so machine of here, were good. Were got up here are selfcontained in. I cant i cant complain at all. And well link for the positivity and im glad that your homes these people he said they have insurance so they should be okay should be able to rebuild but obviously not something you want to come home to a lot of people becoming home to their areas today across napa county because they are shifting the mandatory evacuations to mandatory or to of acquistion warnings and that means that people can go home and see what is were going to be traveling across this area more on highway one 28 highway one 21 to see how much more damage there is so make sure to join in about 30 more minutes and ill give you another look at just how heartbreaking this fire has been the hennessy fire which again has burned majority of the lnu lightning complex for now ill send it back to you. All right sarah well see a little in the 8 oclock hour, thanks a lot for that live report. Well head back up to the north bay. Were also monitoring the web for fire thats in marion county. It has grown to nearly 2500 acres and is 5 contained this morning, flames continue to burn in a remote area in the Point Reyes National seashore of course theres lots of dense foam smoke and thats affecting moran and San Francisco counties among others, 3 firefighters were hurt, but theyre going to be ok there are more than 1600 structures are still threatened this morning. Now lets get you the latest on the scu lightning complex fire. You can see on the map on your screen where the fires are burning now in alameda contra costa and santa clara counties. The flames have spread to more than 360,000 acres containment this morning is at 15 5 people have been hurt over 20,000 structures are still threatened. Well as wildfires rage out of control california is now bracing for even more fires in the coming days, right now 14,000 firefighters are out there on the front lines working to put out more than 600 fires that are burning all across the state. The state has received a major disaster declaration and is asking for more resources and then power from august 8 to help fight the fires state leaders say there are more than 2000 fire evacuees state live. And now we want to continue our Team Coverage with meteorologist dave spahr hes standing by in the Weather Center with a look at the temperatures the heat and the wind conditions, safe. Yeah, good morning robin good morning, everybody, one of the things youve been hearing about earlier folks out there been saying hey the winds have been pretty calm during all of this here they are live shot that shows you the actual numbers that we have calm the Single Digits. Keep that up the flow pattern when we get it has been basically on shore that helps bring in that marine layer. It is then but its covering a lot of geography thats good as well and opens up the skies in the afternoon of course fog the smoke will still be with us checking into that fog by the way heres how it mixes out today it lingers at the coast even by midafternoon. So we might have some kind of overcast conditions. Its some of the beach locations a little bit this afternoon here comes back again to greet us by wednesday morning are really all overnight. And it does carry with it a little bit of drizzle along the some of the coastal areas. The breakdown of the live shot here for you the bay bridge toll plaza shows still that kind of overcast fogging us right over the east bay hills that will be replaced later on by kind of the smaug and the smoke kind of scenario that 60s cover most of the east bay for right now havent seen much Temperature Movement thus far 67. Antioch 50s up here the north bay, although nobody was graduated to 61 at this hour and the breakdown for you puts us at 76 by 11 at 2 oclock 86 again, fog clouds and overcast to start in the inland areas that should clear out of the next hour or so however around the bay. They take a little bit longer well check in your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit marty all right. Dave thanks live coming up next on the kron 00 04am morning news as the gop does turn as the rnc enters day number 2. Well take a look at the republicans pitch for another 4 more years. A highprofile death sentence overturned when its made with love, its made to be shared. The state Supreme Court has overturned Scott Petersons death sentence but not his conviction in a case that Drew International attention peterson was found guilty of the 2002 murders of his wife lacy and their unborn child Lacy Peterson disappeared on christmas eve. 18 years ago. Her body along with the body of her unborn son were found in San Francisco bay in april Scott Peterson was convicted of their murder 2 years later, and then sentenced to death. But in appeal. The state Supreme Court found that potential jurors were dismissed because they had objections to the Death Penalty and because of that petersons lawyers say his right to an impartial jury during sentencing was impacted. So now the court is required to reverse the Death Penalty sentence. The prosecution does have the option to reef try the Death Penalty phase of the peterson trial. But petersons Defense Attorneys dont expect that to happen. As we head to break we want to show you this map and this from the bay area air Quality Management it just shows you how bad. The air quality is outside your door right now the darker the color, the worse the air quality is so keep that in mind. Well definitely be tracking this throughout the morning meanwhile, keep the doors and windows closed if you welcome back everyone several wildfires still scorching the bay area this morning from the north bay to the east and down to the south bay right now were going to focus on the fires burning in the north bay and joining us on the phone is Sergeant Juan valencia with the Sonoma County sheriffs sergeant valencia can you give us an update on how things look from overnight to this morning. Good news is theres not a lot of activity overnight on the Law Enforcement side and right now the courage for the walk bridge fire is estimated to be 54,503 4 to 7 feet percent the second part we happen to know the county is the myers fire which is along the area jenner that is at 22,360 acres and 97 containment. So i can do things are certainly 14 hopeful. Hopefully you know within the next week or 2 things certain back to to a normal. So that is some good news so Going Forward like whats and thats stab whats your main focus now your main concern for their from the Sheriffs Office. And now were kind of starting to transition to the repopulate shun all working closely with cal fire. Im getting an idea where the fire still going to which direction its going in and the biggest thing checked whether the cooperation with weather, that that is that is my main components of trying to get people back to her house is we understand people or anxious, theres a lot of stress that that huge impact on individuals and on and you we sure its often have also you know we have want sergeant that lost his house on numerous numerous sec employees at you know partner to a mandatory evacuation order. Matter this also display so we were also being impacted. Sergeant can you tell us a little bit about the role of the Sheriffs Department plays when your escorting people back into the area or on are they on their own to go back to their own homes, how does that work. But a very good question. So theres pursue theres 2 things one is probably really pop which means that the its fully open you go it was not burned. So theres no fire in that area that might have been but there is no structures lost the second is called what we call the reentry which is for example myers great believe about 5 structures lost in that area it would consider to from area. So there we have a reentry where Community Members that reside in that area have to go to a checkpoint they check in we verified that he lived air issued safety so they can go there during the day and check on their in on their belongings, but they could not stay there. They have to they have to leave it ah, ok. And we know that updates are constantly changing when it comes to evacuation orders enclosures there was a report of highway one being shut down a near the north bay coast are you familiar with that do you know if thats back open yet. Year though we we so we still have a checkpoint on highway one so there are there are parts of the other cars that that are are are still closed in steps for safety.
