The winds shifted and caught him by surprise it can happen that quickly. And they were not trying to be heroes. Tom said the in a matter of 3540 seconds it just changed and they got caught their cars caught on fire they caught on fire but working together they made it to a water tank on the property the 2000 gallon water tank. And thats what say their life turn the water on top of them as the fire passover. Steven says there was one car on the property that hadnt burned. That still has juice after starting off the sprinklers in the toads and everything with his bloodied hands in a rustic restaurant and the better didnt fit he pounded it into the fit in there its a tight knit. But theyre not having gas they found 10 gallons of gas on the property to that hadnt burned likely he says the badly burned men drove to a company of firefighters who were down the street. The family appreciates the firefighters who then helped the brothers get to safety. But steven has a stern message for one of them specifically the firefighter who decided it was time to videotape my brothers as their burning alive. That is not okay more importantly, steven wants people to know his brother and stepbrother are going to need a lot of support moving forward to go fund me account have been set up a 3rd expected to make a full recovery and theyre both they want to live thats what thats really what we care about in us shanahan fox, 40 news. Hi good morning welcome morning. Marty good morning, everybody and were not having as much of a clear on shore flow pattern like we did yesterday we had more weather kind of happening around us, theres a general drift if you will on shore but you can see kind of also a northerly wind in the east bay happening as well and we had enough for the marine layer to come over us which was certainly would take with the fog working its magic as well, heres what we got here from u c berkeley everythings pretty much covered up by that fog. And its going take a while for that fog really to lift later today despite the fact of the fires that are still going. You should the mixing a process the sun joins us heats the ground we have the ground heating and little Little Pockets obviously but not enough for a macro sense to really get everything cleared out and along the coast. The fog will linger in sometimes for firefighting efforts. Well, i guess the one up in marin county, heres the only one that maybe would be impacted directly by that sometimes that can be a problem for firefighters because they get lost the cant find their ways easily with the fog there its nice to have the moisture but they cant see is easily. Here comes back again for tonight into wednesday, filling up the same kind of territory as well also this dampening helps Cool Conditions down as well. Temperatures for us right now were in the mid 60s through most of the east bay up to the north bay the 50s 50s also into the peninsula with 64 san jo4e this is cooler all over the region today, even though yesterday was a day were treated to some rain going on and minus the lightning. Hey good morning robin good morning everybody live shot coming in from the Golden Gate Bridge a little bit of glaze going on and we have fog across the bay this morning little bit of an onshore rift will call it its not a really strong flow but at least is coming for the right direction. Well coming in that cooler marine layer really helps out a little bit whats going on its not particularly thick, so it will mix out for most of the bay over along the coastal areas it will be slow going in terms ofoclearing. 60s cover most of the east bay for now weve got 50s up to the north bay and 64 to check in at san jose futurecast for watching this going emotion, theres the clear out job but remains along the coast in carl comes back again. Tomorrow morning it looks like even as early as tomorrow evening starts filling up the bay and venturing a little bit inland. We dont see any rain happening in the nearshore to read the short term period for this week ahead minor warming trend though were expecting toward the end of the week. Heres what happens with the moisture now as we watch this afternoon. Temperature conditions dry a little bit inland we get in the 50s in the 60s. But thats it will drop into the 30s so pretty decent job on that front get flooded again, byron marine layer by tomorrow morning again look at those numbers in the 90s like to see that. Tomorrow afternoon a little bit of drying into the 40s but again not getting too much into the danger zone. So again with all of that being said thick early fog at least in spots than clearing now not clearing everywhere around the coast. It could be someone overcast. Slow going on that by the end of this week we see a little bit of warming happening with all of sensually trying to be mostly sunny course were battling that smoke and everything and then into the weekend thats when temperatures inland start to pop into the middle 90s it looks like so for today 66 San Francisco, one of the areas thats going to be battling some of that fog even into the afternoon open 73 mostly sunny for the afternoon. 85 meanwhile for san jose lower 90s far inland, it looks like weve got 80s up to the north bay today, 85 san jose, but theres a gradual warming trend expected so some of these temperatures up in the north they will probably be re venturing back into the 90s by the end of the week will course have your extended forecast in the 4 zone. Our top story that were following for you this morning, the latest on the wildfires that are burning all across the bay area. Lets begin in san mateo and santa cruz counties thats where the czu lightning complex fire continues to burn. This map shows just how much of the burn area there its outlined in red kron fours will tran live at the Cal Fire Base Camp and Scotts Valley, he has the latest for us well. We will carry a News Conference to you live in about 25 minutes in now with the very latest numbers, but the numbers are looking very encouraging robin and mardy because yesterday in the Morning Hours they were sitting at 77,000 acres and with good weather Clear Conditions they were able to take to the sky. Right now theyre sitting at 77,600 us all day yesterday the fire only burned and additional 600 acres and they hope to keep that momentum going. However, it has been very destructive. Let me show you some video that we got this is drone video from bonny doon this city is not that big about 3,000 people live in this area near santa cruz is in Santa Cruz County. But you can see the fire just decimated that neighborhood altogether about 77,000 people had to be evacuated a lot of them are staying with family and friends and there are Evacuation Centers like one in pleasanton where they can stay at at this current time as far as the fire. It is only 13 contained at this time, but again we expect a News Conference to take place in about 25 minutes from now hopefully the containment number well continue to go up they have 1400 firefighters being thrown as says they are working around the clock, including trying to establish a buffer barrier as they call it to protect Santa Cruz University as well as santa cruz, the town and right now they say it looks pretty good. Nothing is bulletproof but that buffer that theyre doing and with a favorable conditions that santa cruz itself looks to be protected for now being out here marty robin it is not as smoky as it was yesterday and not windy great conditions. Again keep it here on kron 4 as soon as that News Conference takes place we will carry that for you life at the top of 6 oclock this morning. The good news. I know the fire has burned a lot of acres but altogether only 600 acres all day yesterday unfortunately, the number of structures did go up its approximately 231 structures and that includes barnes and homes that have been destroyed back to you. All right well, thanks a lot for that sliver of good news. Well as continue our Team Coverage on the lnu complex fire burning in the north bay, this map that youre looking at the shows where the complex fires are burning in sonoma napa and solano counties kron 4 Sarah Stinson live for us this morning in napa county shes taking a closer look at damage homes and property sarah good morning. Marty driving up highway one 28 is just miles and miles of charred land and we know a lot of burned down homes and businesses this is an area of napa county where theres a ton of wineries that quite honestly i didnt even know existed because its not in the heart of napa its more up in the hills off of one 28 take a look at some of the devastation we have video of that that we got yesterday and were only going to get more video of it today. You can see just the charred land. The burned were here at the hennessy fire which is all a part of the l a new lightning complex overall has burned 351,000 acres nearly 352,000 and right now its 25 contained which is good news. I mean look thats only a quarter but that is good news because in the containment percentage has been so low for so long, but it looks like they made some Good Progress yesterday. We know thats a red flag warning was canceled and that really helped because the wind decided to cooperate which gave firefighters the opportunity to get to work and get that containment percentage number up as we know in this as well there has been some deaths 5 deaths 3 of all 3 of which alone came from napa county from this fire now has the fire. Its been a widespread fire and we know its a burned 294,000 acres and this fire is 29 contained its all part of the ellen new lightning complex now we uh we have heard that a lot of people have been able to go home because those evacuation orders in some areas have become evacuation warnings and we will to catch up with one person lets hear from them during this devastating time. Winds were really with us. We warning we were expecting northern winds coming through, they never showed up and the the fire really never i mean it it constantly burned and but from slower than what they expected so theyre really saved us gave us time to really work. And that was really good news because they were able to save Certain Homes yesterday that if that wind had picked up might not have been able to do so so as the evacuation orders become evacuation warnings its going to be a day of the devastation may be good news for some. But overall this area has been devastated, i mean it is pitch black out right now and even driving up that windy road of highway one 28 i could still see there was just black charred land that just rolled and rolled from miles and miles now im here near couple wineries we have heard reports of some of these wineries of that have burned down so as the sun rises im gonna be able to show you that and ill let you know what i see boots on the ground here for now ill send it back to you marty robin. And thank goodness. The weather wasnt as bad as expected yesterday. Thank you sarah well check back with you throughout the morning mark. Well now its moved to the scu lightning complex fire. Take a look at your screen theres the map so you can shows you where the fires are burning in several counties alameda contra costa and santa clara counties. The flames have spread to more than 360,000 acres containment is at 15 this morning, 5 people have been hurt in the fires over 20,000 structures still being threatened. Well as wildfires rage out of control california is now bracing for even more fires in the coming days, right now 14,000 firefighters are out there on the front lines working hard to put out more than 600 fires that are burning across the state. The state has received a major disaster declaration and is asking for more resources and manpower from out of the state to help firefighters fight the fight. This week. Is going to be a profoundly important week in terms our efforts and were going to put everything that we have to do we can because this weve got some wind conditions that may be shifting may be changing. State leaders say there are more than 2000 fire evacuees statewide. And now we want to continue our Team Coverage with meteorologist dave spahr hes been closely monitoring the weather conditions. Theyve whats in store for today, ok a good morning. Robin good morning everybody off august kind of joined us this morning calls really come back and force would like to see that throw that moisture in the atmosphere there are not a whole lot in the way of winds will show you the winds. Check in just a bit waiting for some gray skies off towards the distance and see how bad the smoke conditions are this morning. This is what happens as we go into the early afternoon most of the bay area clears out of the fog. But it remains along the coast here and i think in some areas along the beaches, youll never really get beyond overcast or really basically hazy sunshine at best. It comes back again meaning the fog greet us tomorrow morning spilling into you can see the delta little bit of the current check on the winds general flow pattern is on shore. But there seems to be a little bit a northwesterly bias but again the winds calm to Single Digits over almost all of the region. Way upstream is little frontal boundary unfortunates are going to be dripping this far south the bringing some rain or anything no thats going to stay all towards our north. And our weather patterns could be one of slight warming by the time we get to this weekend could return numbers, tough close to seasonality if not a little bit of a thumb on the scale get in the middle 90s for those inland valleys right now we stand at lower 60s lining up the east bay shoreline. Much the same inland. 50s meanwhile, up to the north bay 63, san jose your day today taken care of the morning fog should clear out for the bay in the inland areas by late morning will say about 69 1 of the reasons why the temperatures are so sluggish because of that fog. 81 by high news, keep book two separate qualifying stays and earn a free night. All right lets go and turn our attention to the Weather Forecast sunday things really were nice overnight for the for the firefighters as this the fog. Us to help them quite a bit. Yeah, and you know what weve got more on tap good morning. Marty good morning, everybody and one other little factor there weve already heard from some reporters has been they didnt have to battle too much in the way of winds even in the afternoon and i was checking out the wind profiles as we go into you know this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon really not going to show him because there isnt much that happens the typical breeze in the inland valleys, a little bit. Thats about it so thats working in tandem it doesnt clean outer atmosphere. Unfortunately, the smoke is here to stay but while theyre still battling at least we dont have weather interfering with that looking at just the satellite picture and so forth not a lot of traffic upstream there is a little frontal boundary way up to the north of the gulf of alaska during the winter months this will be a little bit more exciting because they tend to dip further to the south but because were in the summer months forget about its go state of the north and really not going to impact as much as we watch High Pressure build on the west. So that not maybe not quite a heat spike but close to it in those inland valleys, sfo a little bit of fog this morning but things a lit up very nicely no delays being reported at this hour. Getting back to karl the fog. Yeah, it clears out through most of the bay however lingers along the coast in the form of maybe overcast skies, you know and that certainly the firefighters can deal with that snow could be much more problem of fat and most of the bay area will open up to mostly sunny by the afternoon. Tonight spills back in again around the bay into as you can see the delta. Only to mix back out again so well have that deep marine layer or charge shallow but it will have that marine layer. Lets go all the way into the Central Valley at least although its shallow it gets a lot of progress in some distance going on look at the relative humidity levels there 90s just about everywhere around the perimeter of the bay, they drop off this afternoon true, but they dont get real real dry 50s 60s for afternoons looks pretty good. Tonight here comes back that fog it again spilling into the Central Valley and drying out a bit for the afternoon of course we do have some rising temperatures to without so the moisture level content may be the same mid 60s for the east bay weve got 50s up here the north bay 63 meanwhile for san jose across the state 100 will do it for bakersfield fresno 94 for sacramento, Central Coast is pretty much hovering in the mid 60s, weve got 87, san diego 79 for l a x lets get to your 4 zone forecast coming for your tuesday 66 San Francisco, pretty much middle to upper 60s along the coast, meanwhile, the bay side we have 70s 73 millbrae. Burlingame at 7680s as we head south from foster city down the Mountain View 85 meanwhile palo alto the Santa Clara Valley is looking at the mid 80s, although 94 morgan hill 88 los gatos and 85 for cupertino along the east bay shoreline to the south we have lower 80s, some 94 livermore 89 pleasanton 87 for dublin and 90 coming in for concord with san leandro 8073 open 71 for berkeley, a pair of the north bay upper 80s near about 90 to vacaville 82 napa 88 sonoma and santa rosa 84th mother more those 80s heading down to the south 7 a game plan here. Temperatures gradually move through the 90s well get up to about the mid 90s as we head on to the weekend a little bit on the warm side, but hey come on its the end of august. So im not quite a heat spike will call that maybe a little bit of a heat pump there robin. All right sounds good. Thank you dave checking in on a trouble spot. We have crews are dealing with an accident and oakland. This is eastbound 5 80 right at 98th avenue reports of a multi vehicle crash that theyre trying to clear from all lanes of traffic so they are running traffic breaks ear at 98th avenue to get these vehicles off to the shoulder, you have several and a motorcyclist involved as well so so far its backing up about a mile or 2 behind the scene westbound its doing fine westbound into San Francisco a little bit of crowding now at the bay bridge toll plaza so we have the early commuters coming in stacked up right down the middle toward the 80 overcrossing your drive times slowly on the rise it said 12 minutes into San Francisco, which is still good thats not bad at all off to the richmond sandra fell were checking in on west 5. 80 still smooth enough the limited to the north bay with 7 minutes to make it over to one oh one. Well on to National News now the postmaster general testified at a contentious hearing about the policy changes that went into effect at the Postal Service a summer. Louis dejoy is an ally and supporter of President Trump and critics say the organizational changes may hinder mellon voting. One of the standout moments from yesterdays hearing came when Southern California representative katie porter acts to joy about the cost of using the mail. You dont know the cost to fill up her skirt. I dont. What everyone neil ages of 0. 55 for a firstclass know what its like one of those leading cause of the square on low then once the stage. Submit that i know. Very little about postage stamp. Well joy also testified that he would not return high speed sorting machines that were removed from some cities earlier this summer. Despite concerns of not having the machines could have an impact on voting by mail during the upcoming election. Jerry falwell junior has confirmed to the wall street journal that he has resigned as president of liberty university. Now theres a little bit of confusion yesterday when reports surfaced that he resign, but then he denied those reports. But in a phone call to the newspaper fall will set that he indeed submitted his resignation last night. His decision came after a series of recent public controversies about his behavior, including an affair a miami man said that he had with falwells wife that went on for 8 years and then most recently the release of a photo that showed falwell with a woman and his pants on set. All right, lets go ahead take you outside for a live look at conditions at sfo this morning things looking pretty good there in welcome back to kron 00 04am morning news, good morning, Everybody Wins relatively uneventful this morning like to see that little bit of a breeze happening inland towards the delta. But most readings are in the Single Digits to common the general flow pattern being on shore out of the west or northwest early this live shot coming in from a u c berkeley as we can see still quite a bit of fog even covering up the foreground certainly the east bay shoreline but we see a little bit of that hayes off in the distance there you go getting some more light in here as we start to see the sun join us speaking of that fog. Heres how it mixes out looks like by the early afternoon even mid afternoon. We have this fog hovering the coast, although well clear out elsewhere before noon temperature readings were in the 60s for most of the east bay 50s meanwhile up to the north bay that warms up like this 69 by 09 00am by high noon were talking 81 problem.
