Screen that map shows the outline of the fire and it has spread now to the coast, new this morning that fire has turned deadly as firefighters discovered the body of a 70 yearold man. In the last chance area of Santa Cruz County kron fours will tran is live at the Cal Fire Base Camp and scotts valley, he has the latest for us will. Learning just add on to what you said about that victim we do know that he was not inside his home, but in fact near his car. That leads them to believe that he was trying to flee the fire but just simply ran out of time and just overcome by the heat the smoke or the flames and thats how he was not able to get out, but his name not being released to the public at this time as far as the fire they are making progress. Good news to pass along they were so fearful of lightning strikes in the overnight hours but they did not see any lightning strikes in the Santa Cruz Mountains and that and just favorable conditions have helped them make headway. We are now sitting at 13 containment up from 8 in the overnight hours the acreage however did go up from 74,000 to 78,000 acres burned 231 structures destroyed and keep in mind structures could be anything from a bar into a home. We do know that 6 people actually had to be rescued over the weekend because they went back inside their homes and in the process they were fearful for their lives because of the conditions that fire the flames, the smoke and what not thats when they had to call the Fire Department in to rescue them, nobody was injured just a reminder dont go back into their homes at this time until they tell you its safe for them to escort you in to those areas as far as the fire. Favorable conditions, including the rising humidity. That has helped the firefighters make a little bit of progress. Obviously over the last 48 hours a lot of success. A lot of small wins and the showed no to to larger ones on this incident we continue increase or personal neighbors assigned to this incident as well as engines. Crews and we continue to do that until we have sufficient resources. The incident to mitigate the the entire perimeter. Obviously the Mother Nature itself is quite a bit. On a pass along other things that people need to be aware of they have checkpoints in place now because over the weekend they had to deal with possible burglars and looting so they are keeping a close eye on that. In fact the Santa Cruz CountySheriffs Department. They did have to stop 10 people for suspicious activity ended up arresting about 3 people for warrants outstanding warrants and one person from San Francisco was arrested for having a backpack and an area that they should not have been so they are cracking down on that as far as santa cruz, the city itself im in scotts valley. Santa cruz is several miles from my location, theyre saying the city right now things could change but the city of santa cruz is not on fire. It is protected its whats burning around santa cruz thats their major concern. The areas that are hard to reach very steep very rugged very remote. You can clearly see marty and robin just how smoky the conditions are and something i want to just leave you with this that just blew us away from this location as far as the information. Yes, they do expect containment to happen over the next several weeks or so hopefully days. But the fire will continue to burn for months because its happening in an area this extremely dry. Full redwood trees in redwood trees are very dense and they say the redwood trees will burn for 3 to 5 months. Its 5 months marty that goes well into the new year. Yeah back to you that is so sobering all right, well thanks left that live report. From the south bay robin. Well, another problem that theyre having lets continue our Team Coverage shot on the lnu complex fire in the north bay this map check it out it shows where the complex fires are burning in sonoma napa and solano counties and so far at least 4 people have died and 4 others have been injured, lets check in with kron 4 Sarah Stinson who is live near hills for where the fire is threatening homes, sarah. Hey there live off of mill creek road. If you keep driving down there and then turn on Wallace Creek road thats where well see a lot of the devastation caused by the wall bridge fire all a part of the l a new lightning complex take a look at video that i just shot within the last hour you can see a home that collapsed in has burned to the ground. Its devastating to see all thats really left is rubble. And that is kind of the reality on walls creek road there some houses that have made but others that did not in this is what firefighters have been working so hard to avoid. But as we know across the napa sonoma lake in Solano County is its hard because theres 30,000 structures that are threatened already 871 have been destroyed in today. A red flag warning continues until about 5 oclock thunderstorms are still predicted throughout the day which could cause some erratic winds wind is not what we want because that will just pick that flame up and rage it towards the communities that theyre trying so hard to protect so. They expect continued fire grow throughout the day see a lot of fire trucks heading out to try and start to restart the fighting this fire in working all weekend long but still again the small brush fire. Theres only 5 contained has burned 54,068 acres now a lot of people made it out of their homes just in time and they describe to us just how devastating this all is. I stayed a couple extra days i voted my truck with all my tools and everything and waited a little bit and then its are coming over the house kind of so and to go. Yeah, i feel really bad for the people that have lost homes and you know were going to go back in their place is going to be there so it is hard enough like this, but if you go is all your stuff in your house. The environment right now. And my opinion. Yeah, it is. And needs weve taken care of better. All right live up on this hillside off mill creek road which i can usually see more from here. But the visibility is pretty awful its very smoky out here. I cant even see very far because usually theres a ridge behind me, but its so smoky. Theres absolutely no visibility again, im not feeling much wind right now. But firefighters expect to feel more drafts of wind coming through and so theyre using fire to fight fire to hold that fire line to prevent it from burning into the communities. I expect a tough with the cal fire Public Information officer were going to try made up right now so liking an update on know what theyre trying to do today in Sonoma County to avoid more homes from burning for now, im live west of healdsburg Sarah Stinson kron 4 news all right sarah, thank you well look forward to your update robin. Well looters victimize a member of cal fire in Santa Cruz County they actually stole his wallet from his car. And thieves took everything of his bank account just rain did this happen while the firefighter was actually out there saving lives and homes. Cal fire calls the crime sickening. Its unfortunate sickening one of our our ground commanders in that area. While out taking care of business directing a firefighting crews. Somebody entered his vehicle his apartment vehicle and stole person vehicles include his wallet. And rain as they could tell so thats the extent that these people have gone again this is why we have asked. For people to evacuate the Sheriffs Department has done a fantastic job in trying to derail this but again. This is what we have as a its saddening its sickening and were doing everything we can to try to help the community. Well theyre also warning about a fake go fund me account thats circulating to raise money for the firefighter, they say dont fall for this account is not associated with cal fire or anyone connected to the department. Well the story will make you smile 2 girls in santa cruz transformed the you see santa cruz entrance sign and there you see it their names are broken maliyah and they put up signs thanking First RespondersPolice Fire Fighters and pg and e the you see Santa Cruz PoliceDepartment Also thank the girls and the community for all the support that theyve given them during these unprecedented times. And we have an interactive map on our website kron 4 dot com that will show you all of the fires that are actively burning and the location of all the Evacuation Centers as well. We also have a list of up to date evacuation orders and warnings at kron 4 dot com. The fires burning out of control across the bay area of course having a major impact on the air quality that weve been dealing with over the past week. Lets take a look at a map that shows just how bad the air quality is in the bay area and we understand that the darker the color, the worst the air quality in right now the worst air is in the east bay, especially in the tri valley area want to learn more about this from a days far in the Weather Center heidi ok good morning marty good morning, everybody and what were going to see is a little bit of those onshore winds so thats a kind of picks everything up and sends it over the east bay at least. During the day and for now going on we did have some rain showers occurring overnight. Most of that is up to the north bay is now where its kind of bottled up for now not seeing much the way of lightning strikes that we like it gave us some rain showers overnight that we like also got some of that marine layer coming in overnight which is good to serve all the elements kind of work a little bit of our favor, however we do have little clear patch coming in and because of that theyre still has the potential for dry Lightning Development that means aloft will be a thunder shower occurring in the rain has to go to dry air and that can also cause even if we dont get any lightning. You can have a outflow boundaries develop and thats just the winds that are radack and thats not something we need to hear. So heres the Coverage AreaSolano County is the only area not in this until 5 oclock speaking of those winds again youll notice the error directions pretty much coming in from the west. Most of the winds are calm as far as the synoptic sense, but there is a little bit of that on shore wind just a touch of that again its the erratic winds later on today. Theyre the most problem by robin. All right. Thank you day coming up next. Another Police Shooting leads to violent protest overnight. Well show you what led up to the shooting after the break. And as we head to break were taking a look at the damage caused by the czu lightning complex fire in santa cruz and san mateo counties check out these photos just devastating these pictures are from boulder creek. President trump will be laying out in a real policies, real visions, Real Solutions and President Trump says it will be negative i think the overall is going to be very positive as opposed to a dark. A very very positive message. 8. 17 this monday morning take a look behind me at walnut creek this morning you can see the heavy dense smoke. That is plaguing so much of the east bay, lets go ahead and get a check of the Weather Forecast with dave spahr heidi a good morning marty good morning, everybody the picture from radar is we still have some imagery that still lingering up their way up in the north bay just a touch. This flow pattern has all been from south to north that we have way out to see a little frontal boundary, its going to remain out there to provide a little bit of a month to get that on shore flow going a bit now well get that marine layer coming back again tomorrow a little stronger than we saw today. So thats good news to kind of moisten up conditions overnight into much of the bay area this is what were looking at. At the Golden Gate Bridge you can see the towers completely covered up in this fog even at this late hour. A check in the winds most locations are calm, theyll pick up a little bit today but some not the clean little bit of an onshore wind but were most concerned about is erratic winds developing because we have a very high level shower that may develop potentially want to show you those moisture levels back at the surface again now today conditions dry out we usually show this when we have this fire weather watches and so forth but usually the numbers are much lower than this all right thats today now overnight we get the nice recovery. Thats good tomorrow morning. And not too bad into tomorrow afternoon got 60s and 50s and the far east bay like that so we have a little bit of a recovery humidity levels that definitely helps out the firefighting efforts 73 San Francisco, the high today open about 7888 meanwhile for san jose calling a basically warm with smoke again theres a chance of an isolated shower or thundershower, maybe even just a down draft wind that ceramic midnineties going on in the far east bay we have 80s up to the north bay 88 meanwhile for san jose coming up in a bit well check of course of the 4 zone forecast in the extended right now robin has a look at a hot spot. Robin we do its starting to pick up out there some slowing in a number of spots the hot spot is westbound 37 at one 21 in Sonoma County. It is completely blocked right now because of a fatal accident involving a big break and a car. No other details but i believe along that stretch only have one lane doesnt look like traffic is squeezing by but youre backed up for miles once again west 37 all lanes blocked there right at one 21 to investigate this fatal crash and theyve issued a special Traffic Alert a lot of folks are going to start looking for alternate you can take 5. 80 or 12. If you take 5. 80 use the richmond sandra fell bridge. This is what youre dealing with which is probably why its starting to get heavier. Were at 11 minutes now to the north bay. Checking in on the bay bridge, a minor way looks pretty good to me 10 minutes a quick drive into San Francisco party that does look good well one day after what would have been his 42nd birthday tributes are pouring in honoring kobe bryant 7 months after his tragic death. Well that was Kareen Wynter is reporting for us this morning, sarah. Were going to take a short break and as we do were going to take you outside for a live look at 5 of the smoke from the fires very hazy skies yet again unhealthful air yet again so yet again take your mask when and breaking news this monday morning, the fires burning across the bay area have turned deadly. Were taking a look at video now showing damage from the most destructive fires. On your left is the czu lightning complex and burned down homes and send the tail and Santa Cruz County on your right you can see damage from the lnu lightning complex which has forced thousands to evacuate in the north bay. Well, thanks so much for staying with us at the half hour the kron 00 04am morning news. Lets begin with a look at where the fires are burning across the bay area this morning take a look at your screen at the top as the lnu lightning complex fire which is the size burning more than 350,000 acres in total. The scu lightning complex in the east bay has scorched nearly 344,000 acres and contra costa Alameda Santa clara status, la and san joaquin counties and then at the bottom of the map is the czu august lightning complex fire in san mateo and Santa Cruz County. Our wildfire coverage continues in the east and south bays where you can see the map on your screen where the see where the scu lightning complex fires are burning now in alameda contra costa santa clara and san joaquin counties. Flames from those fires have burned more than 343,000 acres there is 10 containment this morning. 4 people have been hurt 5 structures destroyed and more than 20,000 other structures are being threatened kron fours dan thorn has the latest. Thousands have been forced to evacuate their homes in the eastern area of morgan hill. Fire continues to burn in the area of henry coe state park threatening several communities we saw lines of cars racing up to him coming back from their homes and jackson oaks holiday lake estates and along thomas grade people understandably on edge cars and trucks loaded up with anything people could grab. Evacuation orders were issued because of a change in weather including wind which had helped the fire spread or send embers into these areas most of these homes are in hilly rural terrain. Firefighters right now fighting the fire just east of these communities at 5 oclock on sunday police were forced to close the road along east dunn avenue and were turning people away from going up because of potential danger city officials saying staying behind is not worth the risk. As we look at whats happened in some of the other areas here in our state the past few years. Want to take a chance. Many of the evacuees worried about leaving their homes concerned that once they come back there might not be a house there anymore. A tactic. We are facing try to pack up all the pictures and stuff like that. Weve got to get going up their living in california. You know experiencing wildfires is certainly a obviously up where we live. Theyre in the hills police have continued to block residents from going back up into these areas, not only for their safety but to prevent other people from going up and stealing evacuees are being told to go to answer high school where there are Resources Available to people there and also to follow online at morgan hills City Government website where there will be more information on other orders and other warnings reporting in morgan hill dan thorn kron 4 news. Well to the north korea now the wood for fire in marine county has grown to nearly 2500 acres and is 5 contained. Flames continue to burn in a remote area of the Point Reyes National seashore the dense smoke is affecting moran and San Francisco counties, 3 firefighters were hurt, but theyre going to be ok and there are more than 1600 structures being threatened. Evacuation warnings are in place right now for a number of communities in west moran and most places are closed to visitors you can head to our website kron 4 dot com for the latest on the warnings and a list of the closures. And well continue our Team Coverage with the lnu complex fire thats burning in the north bay take a look at the map on your screen it shows where the complex of fires are burning in sonoma napa and solano counties so far those fires have killed at least 4 people 4 others have been injured. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson reporting for us live near healdsburg where the fire continues to threaten owns sarah. And there marty yes still live here off of mill creek road in between my live reports i drive down there see whats going on and they drove their past walls creek warsaw actually some active flames. So its burning in there and they did start to feel a little bit about when that is the biggest concern for today, the red flag warning in there trying to avoid more homes from burning down. Take a look at video i shot earlier we can see this home burned to the ground, its just rubble and destruction. There on Wallace Creek road at least it is a couple homes there that have been burned and that is what theyre trying to avoid today. Theyre trying to fight that wind thats going to come through here again because we have this Stormy Weather here thunderstorms still predicted throughout the day which could cause more erratic winds extreme fire behavior is expected within the existing fires, but the scary thing is. But theres potential for new fires to start because of this weather. Now at last check wall bridge fire in Sonoma County has burned. 54,000 acres and is only 5 contained so today. Hopefully they can really just fight that wind and get that under control. But the biggest concern is could this protecting the communities that surround here but theyve been doing since this terrain is so difficult is theyve been fighting fire with fire and theyve been making sure those fire lines are strong that way when that so when does come it just hold it there rather than spreading and continuing now stay tuned right here to the kron 00 04am morning news hopefully weekend. In an interview for you in the half hour still unclear from going to able to meet up with the Public Information officer. Its always good to hear from them in person because hes kind of get a better idea of how theyre going to attack the plays the stay tuned for now send it back to you marty robin. All right sara thanks a lot for that report from the north bay. Well looting in certain fire zones is such a big problem that it prompted a harsh warning from local Law Enforcement kron fours terisa stasio has more. The message from the santa cruz sheriff was direct and to the point its not police or fire youre going to stop that car. And if theyre not. Tied to that area theyre going to go to jail. Followed up with this warning from the santa cruz district attorney, theyll burglarize your house take your property and im here to tell you i guarantee you. The District Attorneys Office is going to put the fairway of its authority and power behind the prosecution of those people. If you come to this county. If you come to these victimized communities. And you try to take advantage of them. And you are caught we are going to prosecute you to the full extent of the law the outrage sheriff saying that he was increasing patrols and would go after anyone caught stealing and such difficult times for so many evacuated residents. It was just last friday when these 5 people were arrested caught allegedly looting from vacant homes. The da also handing out this missive about those who may be price gouging about various. Hotels and other things that are trying to take advantage of people. During these times of crisis. Want to jack up the rates for various things and i promise you if we find out that were coming after you to terry says stasio kron 4 news. Well checking in on the forecast were getting some scattered showers around the bay area this morning and firefighters say that moisture is helping a little bit lets check in with days 4 days a good morning robin good morning everybody last check on where the right light rain showers are most of them up far up in the north bay there we had this kind of flow on in from the south to the north. Everybody kind of got a little shot of some of this rain working thats factor. One factor to lightning strikes have been down to a minimum and number 3 we had a good strong dose of that marine layer thats only to get stronger for tonight into tomorrow afternoon even really because of still the dry air thats in place here in the tropical air mass above us has to go through like a sandwich is some dry air that may pose not just lightning strikes. We could be concerned about this erratic winds because you get the outflow from that kind of a lot of shower going on and that evaporates and we dont get the rain out a bit but we get that cooler air that just blows on by so that can change the wind direction very very quickly from just the natural breeze that were getting in the afternoon hours. Bay bridge toll plaza shot there you have it whats left of the fog and now its the smoke, thatll carry the ball for the remainder of today, 86 going on for high noon 3 oclock were at 93 coming up in a little bit later on well have a look at your 4 zone forecast marty sounds good. Hey, thanks a lot. Still ahead this morning crews all over the state struggling to contain. Raging wildfires and help is on the way its coming from across the country, well have details on that coming up after the break. And well take a live look outside traffic some moving steady, but slowly this morning on the appr and back to our breaking news this morning as the fires burn out of control here in the bay area help is coming from all over the country and as far away as australia steve large has the details. Refueling time for this massive wyoming Air National Guard planes. Now helping save the state of california. From lightning sparked mega fires. This c one 30 waterdropping aircraft is now at the cal fire base at boland park. Other out of state privately owned firefighting airplanes have also arrived in the cleland. Including the global supertanker. All part of the massive air attack to train game can team on the millions of acres burning. Weve already received a 60 fire engines from neighboring from arizona washington. Oregon, new mexico on the ground cal fire spokesperson, Daniel Berlant says fire engines are also arriving from out of state. And being deployed right to the fire lines or in the local fire stations to help with everyday calls for service, 96 of the cal fire fire engines that we have assigned here in california which is over 350. Are committed to fires. So you can see just how committed we are just how busy we are and so getting these state resources is critical. It all out attack on the massive California Wildfires every firefighting resources, californias tool kit is already in use and we have about 2 dozen more fire engines from from other states that are currently en route now more help is on the way. Coming up next on the kron 4 morning news, the postmaster general is testifying in front of a House Committee today to answer so youre a small business, or a big one. You were thriving, but then. Oh. Ah. Okay. Plan, pivot. How do you bounce back . You dont, you bounce forward, with serious and reliable internet. Powered by the largest gig Speed Network in america. But is it secure . Sure its secure. And even if the power goes down, your connection doesnt. So how do i do this . You dont do this. We do this, together. Bounce forward, with comcast business. Good morning welcome back were taking a live look at the end from the embarcadero in the monitor behind me and you can see that smoke over San Francisco day we can smell it here in the newsroom. Yeah, im walking the hallways you can spell it just kind of everywhere thats the other thing and take a while to kind of get rid of a bit but at least this morning. We had a little bit of help to firefighters. We had a little line of some scattered rain showers move through without lightning incident for the most part basically coming from south to north the most of this is the part in the bay area for right now and leaving us and the kind of a clear patch for now but we did have some stronger marine layer coming in kind of filled up a lot of the bay area in the predawn hours before some with some fog that will be a little thicker going on tomorrow and thats going to penetrate further inland, it looks like tomorrow morning. Speaking of kind of those hazy smoky skies. This is what it looks like down around san jose state. Again battling through some of that smoke, lets get to that marine layer though thing okay we are out during the day today, heres what happens tonight. How about that tomorrow morning that far really penetrating on that looks like the central valley. Again dampening up conditions at the surface helping out a little bit that by this point that tropical air will probably moved out of here now and well be left with kind of those onshore winds a little bit so this is what we have in our backyard that raises the concern this is a very high level Thunder Showers and even if we dont get any strikes of lightning with and even just rain happening that high above it goes through dry air and thats the outflow that we really worry about kind of erratic winds. Now the backdrop of all of this this is what your 4 zone forecast looks like for this monday, 73. San francisco along the coast were going about 70. Bayside youve got the mid to upper 70s, 82, burlingame down south its into the 80s even upper 80s like redwood city palo alto 82. 4 Mountain View meanwhile, the santa clara valley, upper 80s working here near 90 cupertino 8994 Milpitas San Jose with a pair of eights 95. For morgan hill tri valley youve got the midnineties dublin 92 that union city to 83 hayward 84, heading up north well get some 70s here for richmond and berkeley. Meanwhile over the east bay hills, its more of those mid 90s from danville all the way up to concord and meanwhile for Solano County middle 90s up their delay hose at 80 to 84 benicia 85 for napa with 91 going on for sonoma and 89 for santa rosa more 80s heading down south. Some of the forecast for its pretty close to seasonality here with all of this with temperatures in the lower to middle 90s during the day well get there or marine layer coming in with the fog in the Morning Hours at least helping out a little bit with all this progress but not much the way of Thunder Showers which is good news there. Robin has a check and a hot spot going on here robin i do indeed and its in the north bay, but it may start impacting traffic in the east bay is folks look for alternate we have crews investigating a fatal crash. On west found 37 at one 21 it happened at 6. 16 this morning between a car and a big rig. Its still under investigation. No other details just yet at last check they had emergency crews responding. Traffic was at a standstill, no estimated time of clearing and theyre saying a tow truck is on the way, but you see that traffic is backing up there on 37 almost into the late show and on one 21 approaching highway 37 so you may want to consider an alternate this morning consider highway 12 or 5. 80 you know it really depends on your final final destination and whats best for you, heres a look at the richmond sandra fell just in case you want to use it. Its heavy traffic stacked up from richmond parkway right through the toll plaza but no problems here across the span. Were checking in on the bay bridge and the morning commute traffic has finally thinned out looks good right. At one point it was crawling from almost the bottom of the maze. So thats no longer. The case 9 minutes thats easy for your trip into San Francisco. Ill give you one more and improving san mateo bridge. No problems here were at 13 minutes from the nimitz to the bayshore.
