Hi there yeah, you know we are we did see today with and increased containment on the lnu complex fire that good news, however, you know we did also see increased we are getting more personnel under these fires as fires in other parts of the state week at a better handle on those were moving personnel into these larger in in the north bay and in east areas so that we can and continue to increase those containment lines. What do you attribute the increase in containment the lnu complex that north bay. Fire complex, the containment doubled in about 24 hours which obviously we hadnt seen that sort of. Leap in progress made thus far was it mostly the weather. Well the the weather didnt help us out today and we had a little bit higher relative humidity and lower lower but in some cases you know this fire is bumping up against a natural fuel breaks and also running out of fuel when it when its getting into those you know real grassy areas and runs out of ground or bump up you more wet areas and how some Housing Developments were able to you know put it put a stand there make a stand in those places so and we did have some success us today. We understand youve got some 11,000 personnel out there trying to to beat back the flames here but yet youre youre maxed thats according to the press conference today. Are happy are you getting extra help from outside the state and outside the country and how much more do you need. Well we have requested 375 additional engines from across the country we have received 45 of those engines and we expect that number to increase tomorrow and we have also put a call out to our canadian neighbors and our australian ah friends across the pond to help us out there we have called up the national guard, so they are helping us out as well on the ground and in the air. If these 3 big complexes in the bay area obviously the lnu up in the north bay is the largest in the most destructive and then you have the big complex in the east bay and south bay. But this czu lightning complex which is the San Mateo Mountains the Santa Cruz Mountains and a totally we have a bunch of reporters there in the mount it seems like that one is a real problem still containment at last check just to percent is that fire even though its much smaller really worrisome to you tonight. And yet it and not because of where its burning its burning in very rugged areas where we have a lot of world folks you know living in those mountains there we also have a lot of values that risk in that in that that were very concerned about. News from our meteorologist who is concerned over the weekend into monday that we might be seeing some more of these Lightning Strikes. Is that is that sending shivers down your spine. Yes its definitely a concern our firefighters throughout Northern California and thats something that we are right now preparing for and you know really our leadership is constantly monitoring the weather that fire activity the potential for fire activity where that might occur in order that we can constantly be shifting resources and order. We can have the maximum number of where theyre needed the most at any given time i dont mean to question this, but i mean how can you be prepared for such a thing because obviously all these Lightning Strikes the dry lightning is what. This created the problems in the first place and how are you able to anticipate you know another swarm of them. Well we cant fully anticipate what might happen all we can do you know go on a of what we do know and what we have seen in the past and so in the areas where we the lightning to occur. Were really looking at what is the relative humidity going to be with the wind going to look like how close are resources to those regions what is the terrain like there are a lot of factors that go into the resource decision that we we can never be a 100 prepared for what might happen because like you said we just dont know exactly where things are going to strike so we have to go based on the best knowledge that we have based on our experience. Christine, i know in the beginning part of this week when things were you know really out of control. Some firefighters were working 72 hour shifts instead of the normal. 24 1 of the leaders of your organization. Daniel berlant was telling us how tax some of these people obviously were trying to make the initial stand and save lives really not not even save homes but save lives. How are the Crews Holding up especially as you anticipate this next round of lightning and winds intensifying in the next few days. Well, youre right or are crews have been very talks theyve been working double and triple shifts but fortunately we are starting to you know get some resources from out of state we are starting to get Additional Resources on to the bigger from from fires in Southern California that that releasing resources were getting a little bit of reprieve but well see what the weekend brings and and hope that we get some more outside resources over the weekend so that we can put a prepared for what might happen if we do get Severe Weather this weekend chris think we leave our viewers with just a little bit of advice from you i know weve had ice and some advice. You know that for those folks who might want to go out and cut their grass or to trim things were hearing that we they really shouldnt do that that that could actually spark a fire. What what can. Homeowners do. Well what homeowners can do if youre if youre mowing or doing things like that always before 10 00am if its the hot dry windy day please dont do that before 10 00am or at all we doing want people to have their Defensible Space done we do want people to cut their we back and dry grasses and things but weve got to really look out the condition around. Around were encouraging everyone to go to ready for wildfire dot org and be prepared to evacuate know what you need to have in your go bag and know where to go and be aware of your local resources and keep your eyes out for whats going on around you and just to watch the weather and be ready to evacuate because at this point we seen anything could happen. What are you learning about the situation there making grand i can tell you that all Evacuation Orders are completed there are no new orders tonight. Just san Santa Cruz County worked on getting roughly 12,000 people out of Scotts Valley where i am and here at the cal fire. Cant base. We did see some fire activity the area over by highway one by wattle creek a smoldering hot spots right by the coast. A major concern at the fire burning in steep terrain it just really shows like how anything could happen here. There are also people who are deciding to stay like we do you see when we cover these fires but sheriffs deputies had this message. At a press conference. We do not return back into the evacuated zone if you dont have to provide. It presents hazards for everybody to trying to work in that area and i can totally understand if you have medication if you if you feel like you have to go back to please try to seek alternative means to attain that stuff. So some of the concerns in Santa Cruz County where most of the fire is burning is a highway 9 corridor and ridge empire grade road and bonny doon which was hit really hard a lot of homes almost a structures destroyed most of them homes. They havent had a complete survey yet but they do have team that will be going out there to survey the damage and of course i as you heard in that press conference i asked about the weather this weekend. Theyre expecting a you know possible lightning and thunderstorms. How can you prepare for that well they said they will have crews on the ground ready to go they have been following weather patterns where its been windy. Theyve been paying attention to that the last couple days off. And of course theyre stretched they would resources. I was told a fire like this they would have typically so right now they have almost 1200 personnel of this fire. Typically they would have 10 to 20 times more than that in scott valley, gayle ong kron 4 news. Thank you gayle and now we want to take a look at the evacuation map for this fire as well. Smoke and ash continues to fill the air we are just south. A Boulder Creek in downtown ben lomond as that fire continues to rage on just north of here on highway 9 and also highway to 36 take a look at this video that we got from earlier today at one point we saw home burst into flames, you can feel the heat and you can hear the popping and crackling as it quickly spread threatening another home that was nearby the fire beginning to climb up the trees and then burning dry brush neighborhoods have been flattened by this fire cars burned in the skeletons downed power lines and power poles blocking the streets along fallen leaf drive memories for people here have been turned into piles of ash others so far have been lucky sum cars and houses spared by the flames firefighters telling us that this fight has been difficult not only because of the terrain but the lack of resources because of other fires that are burning across the bay area several of these homes are also located in areas where its one way in and one way out adding to the difficulty of this fight firefighters from all over the state. Or involved. You guys are really working hard to pass just dont have the ability to have the amount of resources. And that gentleman there is a battalion chief from the san miguel fire and rescue which is in the san diego area. Some people have decided to stay behind and defend their homes which has been. Difficult for firefighters to deal with because they are working very quickly and very hard to put out these flames. They are advising people to leave the area if they can they understand that people do want to stay behind. But again it just adds to the difficulty of the work that theyre trying to do out here. Tonight. And with says weather like right there as we can. I guess what were moving on will have cable. Oh yeah, it doesnt seem like the winds that bad which is obviously a great sign it and the smoke sort has been such a problem for people trying to breathe whats it like where you are. Right now i would say that the air is very calm, i its different than what we were dealing with earlier earlier you can sort of see the smoke moving a little bit with the wind and it would kind of bring some particles and some debris sort of this this ash thats been covering our cars or hair or equipment as its been sitting out here but right now things have been very calm, its much cooler obviously now that its. Nighttime something that we havent really been experiencing a lot of lately. Im sure firefighters are thankful for but again this area right now is to sort of calm as you see people that are continuing to sort of leave the area here and some crews have also been kind of i heading up highway 9 here to make any sort of response that needs to be on and on up the way there is a little more still because earlier you had some ash just swirling around. This is a map of the areas that are burned more than 300,000 acres in Sonoma Solano napa lake and yolo counties, thousands of people in the north they have been ordered to leave their homes. This is the accusation that for Sonoma County. Red area means Evacuation Orders are in place those are mandatory while the yellow. Her first 2 evacuation warnings People Living in those areas not required to leave at this moment, but should the call come. Theyre told to be ready to go. Also in Sonoma County the town of guerneville is evacuated because of that ellen new lightning complex system our kron fours michelle kingston reports. Im standing in a deserted downtown guerneville all shops and restaurants are closed nobody is down here and take a look at this the sky behind me, bright blue, but when i turn the camera just a little bit out of downtown all you see is brown smoky skies, the entire town is under evacuation and we definitely need those that have not heeded the warning and left the area to do so this is video from earlier this morning, a large house on fire on Wallace Creek road near mill creek road in the healdsburg area, this is the wall bridge fire one that crews are most concerned about today in Sonoma County in specifically here in guerneville when he was just very bad on monday when a Lightning Strike fires happen myers fire. So we backed up monday night and they just kind of been on standby percent some neighbors in nearby Castle Darrow said been keeping a close eye on the rich they see a glow every night but are staying home for now weve been so lucky and where we are and who we have on the spire weve got a crew of. At least 6 now local neighbors that have their personal equipment out cutting lines on our ridges. And theyve been working all night long. So its been pretty pretty incredible neighborly effort out here winds have picked up concerning firefighters that they may push the fire to Higher Elevations and into guerneville a town that has not seen a fire in a long time theres a lot of unburned fuel spills that have not seen any substantial fire history in a long time and its like that and thats what really led say it being a beautiful area. People enjoy living amongst the it is a truly beautiful part of snow in county in guerneville michelle kingston kron 4 news this l a new lightning complex fires also impacting of People Living in napa county. But theyre being warned they they should be ready to leave at a moments notice. Solano county is also feeling the heat tonight, there are still several areas under mandatory Evacuation Orders in Solano County but a bit of good news all Evacuation Orders for the city of vacaville in that county have been lifted police say everyone in the city of vacaville is free to return to their homes so good news there, heres a look now at current evacuations for Solano County still in effect you can see by the red there where the mandatory Evacuation Orders remain the yellow indicating evacuation warnings. And were also tracking the s c you lightning complex fires, they are burning in several locations throughout Santa Clara County alameda contra costa, San Joaquin County and stanislaw county and heres the latest evacuation map from cal fire. For the scu complex everywhere. You see red thats a mandatory Evacuation Order well people in the yellow areas have received an evacuation warning. Right and if youre waiting for last minute are choosing not to leave and now are putting in those firefighters in a position of compromise because they have to effect a rescue. Now youre putting their lives in jeopardy as well instead of waiting until the last minute start gathering important items before the evacuation warning is given i have my medications. Were on course to evacuate yesterday and they are staying at the Santa Cruz Beach boardwalk for now, but they will be moving. But i spoke to School Officials today and they wanted to do. Sooner rather than later. Moving hundreds of people in a hurry with it with a minimal bus system and then also with the covid situation. We needed to make sure we have plenty of time to move everybody safely off campus were currently making arrangements are shorter short term and long term forced people that may have displaced. So our that have housing contracts with the university will be moved over to san jose state theyre going to host the so they can finish out their academic work. I did catch up with one student who is getting to leave. The Santa Cruz Beach boardwalk to go to san jose state as a School Official at the she says the school did a great job. So for most of our inland valleys going to see winds out of the southwest changing direction from those northwesterly breezes but out of the south by tomorrow temperatures for san jose 86 degrees campbell in the low 90s. So a few degrees above average there out of the triple digits fortunately for inland valleys in the east bay last weekend tracking record breaking heat in that excessive heat warning, but livermore in the mid 90s so about 5 degrees above average there for you widespread mid 70s throughout the east bay shoreline oakland 76 degrees average high should be 71.
