The czu august lightning complex fire has burned 50,000 acres in san mateo and Santa Cruz Mountains homes have been destroyed some 64,000 people have been forced to evacuate from that fire. Now lets zoom in a little closer to the czu lightning complex fires in san mateo and santa cruz counties. Take a look at this map on your screen. The red shows the thermal activities from the flames and we do know this morning that several homes have been destroyed as i mentioned 64,000 people have been forced to evacuate from those fires kron fours reyna harvey live now in Santa Cruz County she has the latest for us reyna. Rd fire officials tell me the families that were evacuated will not be able to return to their homes for several weeks because they are continuing to fight this fire that is growing in the mountains and they have no containment on it so spoke to some of the residents who wore leaving yesterday many of them who had to grab their personal items in their animals and personal documentation that they had just to spend the night in parking lots and at relatives houses, some people didnt even know where they were going to be going to overnight like you mentioned 50,000 acres and growing again no containment on this fire more than 64,000 families have had to leave youre looking at the Boulder Creek area right now is a fire rips through that Community Overnight destroyed multiple homes and structures in that area they have several other structures that have been destroyed and now we also spoke to some of the residents like i mentioned who did not want to leave many trying to stay but fire officials are saying they want to make sure people evacuated in not stay because thats putting their lives at risk as well as the First Responders we went to a press conference that happened earlier this morning. Take a listen. We continue through the evacuation city a scotts again i mentioned yesterday that the population that area about 12,000 people. So were nearly done with that this morning on the last night we did get a couple calls with regards to suspicious vehicles. But again weve got people that that are up there that are looking for those folks looking for anyone else that might driving around looking for the bird on her door is a home. In terms of. All right and you can see one of these homes here in Boulder Creek as that goes up in flames and collapses completely now theyve added more resources on this fire. They have about a 1000 personnel also we know that theyre transitioning a lot of personnel that they have a round of come from out of town to watching a lot of these homes that are of here in the areas that have been evacuated why people are awake currently now again fire officials are saying their main priority today is continuing to prevent the loss of life and theyre also trying to protect the structures that are up here as well. But it just seems like they cant get a handle on this fire because of the conditions and a presented before them for now reporting here in Scotts Valley reyna harvey kron 4 news all right rain and that is so tough to hear about the potential burglaries thanks a lot for that live report from the south bay, lets go now to the north bay was not hurt 19,000 acres burned. For us locally in Sonoma County. The wall bridge is 20 currently 21,125 acres. And the miers fire is 3,000 acres. Item of note across the state from the result of this lightning siege, we currently have 540 active fires burning in the state and cal fire has 96 of its resources committed these going fires hurled at the same percentage as a lot of our local government cooperators. And need over dinner. Trying to bring this under says under control. Again a lot feedback. Im not sure if that man or somebody else you know. Of continue so the myers tonight for wind and solar there its what i see on the not sure if thats firefighters looking a lot better than it has last couple days, its still listed as 0 , although those numbers are going to come up drastically as you can see with the operational map. The fire did indeed burned to the Pacific Ocean. So there is a portion of the fire that it is not going to expand and the fire has been continuing to be held on the west side of myers grade so we do not anticipate any fire grows today on the miers fire going over to the wall bridge fire. The relative humidity and the county came up significantly last night which gave firefighters a muchneeded reprieve on the line or a relative humidities ranged anywhere from 50 of the high 70s. So fire activity was very much reduced overnight as opposed to 2 oclock in the morning runs that we had seen a couple nights before. The fire is continuing to back down into armstrong woods and ace, sweet water springs area and around the mountain jackson, a repeater sites where there was a defensive firing operation conducted last night to ensure that we had as much protection around that Critical Communications infrastructure is possible and so far it seems to be accomplishing what we wanted to do. Moving over to the east side of the be Wallace Creek drainage continues to give us difficulty in the afternoons. The afternoon winds are picking up between about 2 oclock in the afternoon. Im sorry about that 2 oclock in the afternoon. Through possibly 8 or 9 oclock each night are which is whats pushing up fire along that Wallace Creek drainage mill creek road area. Its creating issues for us for structured the stands as the fire continues to advance down to West Dry Creek road. And west west side road. The north end of the fire which these stewarts fire has merged with the walbridge fire and resources were able to construct some good line last night from lake sonoma over to the some east road area. So were hoping that the fire will not impact the top end of the West Dry Creek bowing to the is the priority for the state at this point and we have a dedicated ariel supervisor modules that aircraft that led the aerial fire fight. As of an hour and 7 minutes ago they were going to be in there at 8 oclock and we a robust 6 in air tanker presence at the entire tax base and ready on base at sacramento. For the very large air tankers large air tankers and our traditional a cal fire as 2 air tankers. So we dont anticipate any aircraft fixed wing aircraft shortages today. And as i said before the walbridge fire is the priority fire for the overall ellen new lightning complex resources are starting to come into the incident and they are being pushed out on the line as soon as they get here and the report. Great thank you chief. Next wed like to give a brief report out by chris godley on Evacuation Orders and warnings. And chris conley here at the Emergency Operation center very briefly in support of fiery continued to this issue warnings and Evacuation Orders on a brand or current math which is currently available on or c dot or. But i cant i need a permission to screen sheriff i can but the areas that have been just now announced include theres only one asked to us this is the area near the we. House and a bridge near guerneville on long lawrence river, this is the first zone south of the river and that is subject to Evacuation Order at this time thats including an additional 1800 almost 1900 residents in that one of activation zone in addition to cal fire and the sheriff that expanded the warning subjects the advisory to prepare to leave or leave. Since now this includes owns 4 see one s c or d one. And 42 s these areas are effectively surrounding for still is wrong way to think of it like this. A bit further away from the river than the previous warning areas that works including yesterday, its that brings us to an additional almost 5,000 residents. Theyre either subject to that order or the warnings. Its an increase from yesterday, its about 3,000 so or perhaps coming up on 19,000 total residents subject to Evacuation Orders or warnings at this time we continue to operate the temporary evacuation plan center is the sarah grounds there is a current shelter operation place that rotation was 63 residents. Overnights weve got several 100 large animals there are also individuals shelter and tents. And some 100 horses were also evacuated us to the core center down your petaluma as need be independent. We are prepared to open additional shelters that concludes my briefing. This is thank you now wed like to have a quick report out fire incident Public Information officer paolo on top. Hey good morning, yes, were currently continue to work with both the Sheriffs Department as well as the county of sonoma on Public Information we want to remind our residents. I hear within the county rather than gets information from cal fire. I think how far as facebook and twitter as well as locally here how far as. Well a cumberland on twitter and tell fire l a new lake sonoma his book please follow and check out our web site fire dot ca dot job, it. Theres instant information well cover all the various incidents throughout the state. We also are use this opportunity or minor has been said that they havent already done so to be familiar with the ready set go program is it ready for a while or not or thank you. Great thanks to some great reminders for folks. At this point id like to open up questions are folks that all right weve been listening into a Sonoma County officials giving their annual or not their annual but their daily update on the situation with the lnu complex fire a one sliver of good news that we can tell you in case you missed it is cal fire is now calling the walbridge fire burning in Sonoma County. A priority and that means that there will be a aerials of planes that will be going over and dropping water and fire retardant on the fire which hopefully will make a huge impact on the growth of that fire. So thats one slice of good news that we got from that want to remind you to that we have continuing coverage of the fires on our website at kron 4 dot com. We have all the evacuation zones Evacuation Centers for each of the fires and you can also download the kron 4 mobile app to get the updates as well. Well be right good morning, welcome back 9. 15 this friday morning, lets go ahead and get a check of the Weather Forecast as we look ahead to the weekend with dave spahr i die. A good morning morning, good morning everybody on live shot coming in from the golden gate still the towers are shrouded in the fog but were seeing new proving greatly here. Just recall may be just an hour ago or so the fall was almost up against us now you can see its retreating back as it starts to mix out sfo looking good as it did all this morning. No delays occurring there except of course, the sky conditions are all smoky and hazy 76 going on for antioch 74 concord 67 for livermore looks like were getting a little bit of movement in the east bay is a son has joined us 60s mid 60s about up to the north bay, 60 per San Francisco, 67 meanwhile for san jose. So what are the aid of this front thats up to the northwest provided the onshore flow. Its the same program that we had from yesterday brings in the marine layer, we have bit of an onshore flow. Thats going to weaken maybe a little bit for this weekend and a little wrinkle in all this is will kind of get some tropical clouds a little bit passing by watch this here on futurecast for doesnt really do much of anything as you can see passing by for saturday in tucson actually some showers popping up in the sierra due to all of this this only goes up to about saturday on that but by sunday night into monday that holds an opportunity to get some showers but that may come with some strikes. A lightning is the problem. All right watching the future cast winds they pick up say about 6 7 oclock this eveaing. Coverage area concentrated in the peninsula. North bay, those inland areas of the east bay, some of the valleys a little bit and the kind of dissipates really before midnight it looks like citizen hold together very long. But it will be coming in from the coast bringing in a get another dose of the marine layer, sore 11 the onshore flow. Still warm though for the weekend i just mentioned some of those tropical clouds but temperatures hold pretty much the same. Its sunday night we may get a chance of some rain showers developing potentially overnight into monday. And that may carry with it some strikes a light into account for. Now for today, 74. Warm and but still tacy smoky 80 going on for oakland, 85 san jose and across the wider bayer readings are in the middle 90s for this far east bay reaches Contra Costa County even Solano County start to get maybe in the upper 90s at that but at least were sub 100 east bay shoreline stills entrenched into the lower 80s of course well cover more of this in your 4 zone forecast mark. All right, thanks a lot dave. Well take a look at this map on your screen you can see where the l in you complex fires are burning its outlined in red there. They parts of a wide area that includes several the solano napa and sonoma counties kron fours will tran live in vacaville this morning. He has the latest. Marty we keep moving around i want to show you new destruction unfortunately we are not running out of new places to show you because look at this so now were along a ridge, a hill and we looked down at what used to be a wonderful home you can see a pool right next to it. Its good honest destroyed its moldering in certain parts but theres nothing to go back to this is a long English Hills road. Very. Expensive places even call it estates road. So i can tell you. Story of have and have nots what i mean by that is the fire has no rhyme or reason look at off in the distance that home right there is still intact. Sure its surrounded by smoke, but at least its there that right next door to the left that structure destroy us all together according to cal fire. 480 homes slash structures destroyed more than 30,000 still threatened and the fire now is up to 19,000 acres. Look at this it charged the hillside over here or over there, but its pair that particular home so. Happy for that homeowner, youre heartbroken for this homeowner and that seems to be the story throughout the vacaville. Sure there are many homes that are still here many or destroyed or at least damage. I can tell you that no firefighter fortunately, no firefighter has been injured, but you talked about that just a few moments ago marty now that another fire his top priority. There is a chance they might not get as many resources as they would like to fight this fight. And its just not often the distance. All right, unfortunately looks like were having trouble with will shot from a vacaville but you did get the impact that fire is having in that subdivision just literally hopscotching from one home to another some homes are fine others completely destroyed as you saw in that video. Well still ahead this morning on the kron 4 morning news will have complete coverage of the wildfires that continue to rage across the bay area. Take a look at this video is from cal fire of the seas eu august lightning complex fire. It is just devastating well have the latest details coming up. Good morning, welcome back state Energy Regulators are responding to the investigation into californias Energy Shortage and the rolling blackouts during this record breaking heat wave. And still ahead this morning were covering the breaking news on the fires that continue to damage homes and property in the bay area we have a team of reporters standing by with live updates just moments away. And were taking a live look outside this is from walnut creek and you can see just the smoky skies that are hovering over many parts of the east bay this morning. Good morning welcome back on 4 morning news for this friday morning, lets go ahead and get the forecast from dave spahr a were worried about the heat and the wind as far as the fire goes day. Good morning morning, good morning, everybody were going to both really will have warm conditions going on for today a little bit of a well call it a breeze here. This hazy sky conditions i dont know much better this is going to get because really cant blame this on fog so much anymore. Now it appears thats probably smoke going on here. This is the satellite imagery which shows the outline of that front kind of fighting over the high though a little bit so we have a bit of that on shore flow. Thats going continue to bring the marine layer in here so at night the fog will yet return again, they would help out the Fire Fighting efforts. Winds are calm for the most part now, but during the day they will pick up again generally speaking coming from the west or from the northwest a little bit. Bay Area Temperatures have moved a little though were seeing a lot of 70s now popping up 76 for any aac 74 conquered, but still 67 for livermore and up to the north bay the 50s are gone and its 60s up there as well. Coming of course up in a bit well check into that 4 zone forecast see whats going on in your neighborhood at least were not triple digits though for today it looks like and that extended which were talking about maybe sunday night monday morning to maybe have a little rain event that might potentially bring some lightning strikes with the party. Ok well thank you dave. Well, lets get back to an update on our breaking news throughout the morning, the fires that continue to burn across the bay area. We have a map to show you where where the fires are burning this morning, lets go ahead and take a look at that its the l a new lightning complex fire. Thats the largest in size of burning 215,000 acres is in the north bay. The scu lightning complex fire in the east bay has scorched more than 157,000 acres across several counties contra costa Alameda Santa clara stannis la and san joaquin counties then look down to the bottom left of the map and thats the czu august lightning fire complex complex fire. Thats burned 48,000 acres so far in san mateo and Santa Cruz Mountains now homes have been destroyed in this fire. Thousands of people over 60,000 people have been forced to evacuate from their homes. In Sonoma County of the part of the l a new lightning complex fire is burning as well and were focusing on the wall bridge fire. Thats in Sonoma County and you can see on the map the burn area of that fire this morning. Its burning right along he lake sonoma Recreation Area thats northwest of windsor kron 4 Sarah Stinson is reporting live this morning near healdsburg she has the latest for us sara. Marty we heard from a man last hour and man what an interview that was in spur inspiring for sure he staying so positive even though the fire is about a halfmile to a mile away from his home and now joining us live is Paul Lowenthal he is joining from cal fire hes a the p i o for the lightning complex ellen new lightning complex. Thank you so much for joining us people in Sonoma County are just eager for information what can you tell us right now its its a one a 21,001 25 correct, yes, so right now the walbridge fire remains the number one priority as it was yesterday. Again today for the entire complex. So those that the information that gets 4 chair back to the incident command post. Based on the conditions of all the different fires throughout the complex and walbridge remains the priority. The goal right now is to keep it from progressing to the south and southeast in the east side of the fire. Now youre seeing additional of accusation information come out for that Russian River area, us or encouraging residents to continue to follow the information on both route cal fire. The county of sonoma and Summit County sheriffs office. Were hoping to take advantage of the weather we had some cooler a marine influence coming to the region. Thats a really trying to get in a lot do a lot of good work this morning and eventually anticipate to be potentially another a windy afternoon starting around 2 oclock. And are there going to be more airdrops. Yeah with this being the priority and we did have information that came out of our operational briefing this morning to all the crews that are working on the line. We can expect to see some of the very large air tankers, the large air tankers as well as for just asked whos some smaller into air tankers. All those are being used on the fire and youll likely see them in the region again today. Yesterday interviewed lot you live at 10 oclock on our app kron on and we talked about this fire and then you know you feel like were going to do everything we can and what happened overnight because i saw it like 02 00am the flames are raging in here on Wallace Creek road couple homes burned, its pretty devastating. Yes, so what weve expects variance in over the last several days is kind of that afternoon increase for the inversion lifts it starts to warm up the smoke column that has been laid out over the valley and essentially lifts up off the fire that will suffer is taking the cap off the fire where that activity really starts to increase in the afternoon. And then we see a kind of a little bit of a law in the evening and then again it picks up a minutes done it. The last several days late at night. And sometimes as late as 2 3 oclock in the morning. So thats obviously a concern of we want to see the humidity has come up and we want to see those in those winds decreased. But at the same time we we have to add that to be the pair with your community to you know Pay Attention all the alerts. The warnings that are out there and youre right these areas that were seen in the water in the mill creek or or single lane. The in some cases almost borderline acceptable and we have a lot of resources here not just while engines but larger structure engines and those in geneva it need to be able to freely move around so were encouraging residents that have already done so please heed the evacuate and allow us to to get in there and provide that structure defense. Things happen really quickly ive seeing a lot of residents come in somehow i think some of them have permits. But what would you say to them, i mean that have been very quick last night and you got to get out right. Yeah, so theres theres an permits be an issue but there are a lot of residents have left the evacuation but were definitely encouraging them if they havent already done so to please heed those warnings. Theres a reason that the evacuation warnings and orders continue to expand because were looking at the conditions and theres obviously concerns related to Public Safety is where the fire could move to. So im pleased he to them theres a lot of good information available. To cal fire. Theres the ready set go programs or encouraging people to read that review the information that they havent already and ready for wildfire dot org. And make sure theyre following information to cal for the overall incident. And lastly i mean we saw how quickly it happens were talking about how close this gets to healdsburg because it went through some of those homes how big is the concern like were talking healdsburg right there and then we have winds are in santa rosa. You are resident of Seminole County will you say to people who are worried about it going into town. Know that were doing absolutely everything we can this this community this county has been through an awful lot the last several years you know starting with the wine country fires 2017 the kincade in 19 and we find ourselves again very of 2020. So a lot has been learned here locally as far as Different Things that we can do how to respond to disasters how to alert how to engage with our community and ultimately how to better move resources in from departments so not only is cal fire has no role in supporting the event. But weve also seen or deferred to his are all calls were 3 all calls have been issued for all available resources from the Sonoma County Fire Agencies over the last 2 days and that brings even more resources in to protect our community. Its in our own backyard. Obviously has a lot of firefighters that passion about firefight in general, but especially when its in our own backyard. So were doing everything we can to can to keep it from continuing to progress in those directions. But ultimately the concern right now is the wind pushing from the north to the south and southeast. So primarily along the Russian River areas is why youre seeing those the changes evacuations down that direction right thank you so much for everything you guys are doing is going to be a tough fight today. Hopefully the wind isnt as bad as its been they could really use a break in this fire. Though the wall bridge fire will be continuing to fall this all day long actually going to be live on our app kron on in about 30 minutes soul home havent up another update for you then for now im live near healdsburg Sarah Stinson back to you and sarah one break that they may have is that cal fires made of the wall bridge fire a priority and that means will be fire retardant and water onto the fire today and hopefully that will make a big difference that Sarah Stinson reporting live for us right now, lets go east and the north bay this morning and happening now officials in marine county holding a briefing for the woodward fire in the north bay. Developing story this morning. The toddlers in the hospital after being shot in the arm in the north bay. It happened about 7. 30 last night near trinity and louisiana streets in vallejo the little pee dee says that a man and a woman were also shot and they both died in that attack. Theres no word this morning on the childs condition or what caused that shooting. We continue to cover the breaking news on the fires that are damaging so many homes in the bay area we have a good morning, welcome back the wildfires across the bay area having a huge impact on our air quality and earlier this morning we talk to christina chew. Shes with the bay area air Quality Management district. Give give us the lowdown what we can expect today and then looking into the weekend as far as air quality. Sure good morning, thanks for having me this yesterday actually we experience and strong. Northwesterly winds that came in from the stronger than the last 2 days which was able to clear out of the air. Generally speaking around the bay area however are bay out out in livermore up through and vacaville are still experiencing very unhealthy air. Theyre getting a lot of smoke the fires that are surrounding them really right now the scu lightning complex fire which is out in the east bay and the l and you like in complex which is burning up in the north bay but because of northwesterly wind blowing that spoken to the east bay so. We do recognize that widespread around the bay area generally air quality is improving for most folks but again in the east there theyre still suffering right now. Whats the outlook for the weekend. Well we do we do not actually see wind pattern changing too much through the weekend. We do hope with temperatures coming down in the east bay that is helping with fire containment and hopefully firefighters will be able to get a better handle on all the fires around the area which would alleviate some of the smoke. What in terms of longterm outlook are Forecasting Team is actually being a threat of lightning early next week on probably monday or tuesday. And thats terrifying bomb so we really hope that this weekend. They provide from what with cooler temperatures but again well really counting fire containment. We know we have a spare the air alert today tomorrow through sunday. Do you think were entering a phase where this is becoming a new normal because the fires are nowhere near. Containment were still at 0 for some of the larger fires are we going into like an extended period of just poor air quality that we need to get used to. On fortunately i think its very unfortunate, but in years past we have experienced fire but they started in late september october even and so were at the middle of august and if it is what we are going to have to face in our new normal. Given Climate Change and making extreme. Whether that super charges are wildfires it going to be something that is just catastrophic for years to come so what about behavior so this is becoming our new normal. Talk to the folks about the Behavioral Changes that they need to make what should we do how should we adjust our daily living going forward. I love it should wildfire preparedness now im part of our new normal in addition to her quick prepared right eye on making sure your house is as. Clean as it can be for air quality that means closing your windows and doors making sure those sealed tight when there is a wildfire that is impacting you you can make sure to keep the smoke unhealthy air out of their home. Cleaning and changing the filters in your house in your car is also another good way to ensure that you can you know closure bench and make sure that the air inside your car and your house is as clean as it can be and im making sure kid anybody work in our sensitive who population, anybody whos elderly anybody with preexisting conditions also take necessary precautions they need to take to make sure that they can remain safe and healthy. And christina some of those precautions include a mask. Well of dont be fooled into thinking that the quark mass that is protecting everybody up covid19 is going to protect you from wildfire we do not recommend clock masks or wildfire if you have to go outside and you. No, no and if you really want to wear a mask. We recommend n 95 or higher, but again it does not protect if you have a facial hair, your child. And for those who already have preexisting conditions it might limit too much air flow because the more damage. And again in says in the air that we are now were saving know. And i 95 mask for First Responders so we do recommend that you just stay inside, keep yourself a close your windows and doors and just enjoy your air clean air inside your own home. Its great advice, christina to thank you so much for joining us. Christine is with the bay area air Quality Management district. And lets go ahead get a check of the forecast with days far as we look ahead to the weekend and dave as we just saw that the air quality is still a big problem here. Yeah, good morning marty good morning, everybody, one of the things theyve all been saying everybody that on the firefighting efforts and all that is weve got a little bit that marine layer in from yesterday that trend will continue. Cooler temperatures ever so slightly yeah we got that all on tap too. This live shot coming into the bay bridge toll plaza the haziness yeah that will continue as well too and the smokiness so you know take some caution that take it easy stay indoors. If it is possible of course as we go forward and you heard a little bit about this just recently but that tropical moisture we mentioned we know the flow pattern is coming in from that front up north. But down south here this tropical to actually Tropical Storm down here. This moisture is expected to elevated its way up here. Almost like a deja vu from last week might get some showers sunday night monday morning but were concerned there will be some lightning with that we get a nice gentle rain out of this just a little bit even that be wonderful. We just dont get any lightning from it so thats where the threat lies and it shows up even on the models to its not money in the bank but its something to be watching sunday night monday there you have it then it clears out and were back to kind of the standard forecast for us with highs.
