Valley where behind me fire personnel just wrapped up their meeting and they said their priority for today like it was in the days pass is saving lives out here now people have made that easy for them in a lot of people have evacuated thousands in fact added some of not wanted to leave their homes and as a result of that you seen a lot of the fire personnel have to use their resources to rescue people we also know there are at least looking into one missing persons case so again a lot happening out here as the fire continues to burn you mentioned it was at 50,000 acres and it continues growing right now they still dont have containment on this fire more than 60,000 people have had to leave their homes as a result of the growing flames out here now we said in for a press conference where they updated us on their efforts for today take a listen. We continue through the evacuation city a scotts again i mentioned yesterday that the population that area about 12,000 people. So were nearly done with that this morning on the last night we did get a couple calls with regards to suspicious vehicles. But again weve got people that that are out there that are looking for those folks looking for anyone else that might driving around looking to super go for gore as a whole in terms of. Now theyve added more resources today on the fire about a 1000 fire personnel are here today trying to get this fire out weve seen personnel from across the state state in fact, los angeles and something theyre telling people if they evacuated you theyre asking people to stay out there not allowing people to come back into these areas also for visitors are telling people to just stay out of these areas, san mateo and Santa Cruz County as well because people are trying to evacuate by the thousands and as you can imagine that can a potentially block of the road. So theyre asking people to be mindful and that theyre also going to be shifting some resources to watching the homes because you know thousands of homes are left on occupy and so theyre going to be city personnel the air throughout the day to make sure that those homes are safe as well so well be on the ground will bring you more updates coming up at the half hour for now reporting here in scott valley, real harvey kron 4 news. All right reena thanks a lot for that live report from the south bay. And we have some more maps take a look at this map you can see where the lnu complex fires are burning. They cover parts of a wide area, including solano napa and sonoma counties kron fours will tran is live in vacaville this morning with the latest well. All right unfortunately we lost in that report from will tran will try to get back soon as we can. Well now lets move on we talk about Sonoma County thats where part of the l a new lightning complex fires are still burning this morning and were focusing on the wall brits fire thats in Sonoma County and we have a map of that area that burn area thats being impacted you can see that it just right along. The lake sonoma Recreation Area will get that up in just a bit. Now there you go theres a view of the math you have the red portion you have the area that highlighted in yellow some evacuation orders a mandatory and then some are warnings of their tilt still telling people that if you receive a warning. You need to be ready to go make sure you have all of your essentials pack those pictures Important Documents your id your passport. Get your pets together they dont want you scrambling around trying to figure things out when they need to get you out as soon as possible so well continue to monitor this throughout the morning. We also want to check in with kron 4 Sarah Stinson shes an hilbert hills burke says she has the latest there sarah. Robin this morning. We have seen in devastation caused by the wall bridge fire. All a part of the l a new lightning complex its already burned 21,000 acres about a 1000 more than reported last night and take a look at what did burn last night and into the Morning Hours this video of the burning this happened at 02 00am the home just were on fire and i got video of the aftermath that were seeing now that the sun is up i saw home all that was left was the chimney and some rubble and the stairs that led up to this home that was once standing and its just so terrible to see because one homes burned down in the next door. Another home is fully standing in fine i did see a home that had flames next to it i reported it to cal fire who was driving by said we are monitoring all of those little hot spots making sure that it doesnt burn down anymore homes right there on Wallace Creek road off of mill creek road and if you keep driving it gets pretty hairy. Theres downed trees, theres. A lot of to the point where you just cant in shouldnt go back there whats so scary about this fire is theres just these tall redwood trees i mean youve seen redwood trees they are so tall and it can be very scary what if one of those falls. Not only could it kill you but it could also a block your way so thats why firefighters are really having to be careful in there because of those extremely tall redwood trees the fire moved in there really quick last night even though you know they had air drops yesterday they were working on the ground they were doing everything they could to prevent this fire from continuing to spread south east into the homes that you see there on your screen but it was not obviously they were successful in some parts i did see some homes Still Standing its not like its complete devastation like so like we saw the tubbs fire theyre going to be continuing to work on this all day long all weeks coming long because they have a 0 contained a lot of work to be done and not feeling a lot of wind out here but i didnt either yesterday but as we know the wind did pick up. The smoke it has cleared a little bit from this area of course when you drive into where the fire is great now it does get pretty smoky. But ive seen a lot of cal fire crews like the one behind me heading in to continue to put out hot spots prevented from burning even further southeast towards say windsors you santa rosa that is the biggest concern so stay tuned. I think well have an interview live at 9 oclock its a hard to tell we just want to make sure you know rat will of cal fire making sure they do what they need to do. But also get the information out to everyone here in Sonoma County Public Information officer should be live with us at 9 oclock so keep tuning in and well bring you the latest for now, im live meal he near healdsburg Sarah Stinson kron 4 news all right sarah, hopefully well get that interview at 9 oclock that youre talking about robin. Well now we want to go back to kron fours will tran who is live in vacaville, he has an update there. Well. Unfortunately we having trouble getting shot up which is of course understandable but hes been monitoring the fire throughout the morning and his last update was 480 structures were burned and 30,000 homes also destroyed in that fire hes been monitoring of the destruction there hell give us some video and pictures coming up a littlee bit later, but of course another big problem is the weather. The air quality the hot temperatures. So we want to check in with dave spahr who has an update on todays forecast 8. Robin marty good morning. Good morning. Were looking for skies improving a little bit now as we take care of the fog but still that hazy conditions will prevail that frontal boundaries up towards our north we like that because its still going keep that thicker marine layer in place and that helps of course unfortunately for places near the coast to get the the fresh impasse like this the Golden Gate Bridge still shrouded in fog. Not unusual its kind of like business as usual in some ways for the golden gate. But its acting asasan aide today and during this event to help bring in that marine layer and also help retarded the development of of the fires a little bit we have a little minor breeze going on its expected to pick up a little bit later on this afternoon for most the reports weve heard it withthe winds were somewhat manageable for the most part and again coming in from the west brings in that marine layer so were going to have winds thats a good direction to get up 74 antioch most of the readings are still in the 60s we havent had a lot of movement yet partially because the fog has been working to repel that and keep that down a bit. We start to lose that is it mixes out of course the haze is going to be with us as was mentioned earlier be nice to get some winds to try to clear this out, but it doesnt look i want to get that from matic wins 83 by high noon 3 oclock were at 92. At leastststwere not 100 plus some of the warmest spots will continue to be Solano County portions of Contra Costa County the usual expected areas. They too will not be seen 100 plus today. Well a little more on the forecast about getting a break in the weather again like we did from yesterday continuing. Robin thank you days. Still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news. Weweicontinue our breaking News Coverage of all the wildfires burning in the bay area were getting lots of video intotothe newsroom or updated numbers, so well talk about the acreage and containment coming up after good morning, welcome back the wildfires across the bay area having a huge impact on air quality and this morning earlier this morning we spoke with Christina Chu who is with the bay area air Quality Management district. Expect today and then looking into the weekend as far as air quality. Sure good morning, thanks for having me this yesterday actually we experience and strong. Northwesterly winds that came in from the stronger than the last 2 days which was able to clear out of the air. Generally speaking around the bay area however are bay out out in livermore up through and vacaville are still experiencing very unhealthy care. Theyre getting a lot of smoke the fires that are surrounding them really right now the scu lightning complex fire which is out in the east bay and the l and you like in complex which is burning up in the north bay but because of northwesterly wind blowing that spoken to the east bay so. We do recognize that widespread around the bay area generally air quality is improving for most folks but again in the east there theyre still suffering right now. Whats the outlook for the weekend. Well we do we do not actually see when pattern changing too much through the weekend. We do hope with temperatures coming down in the east bay that is helping with fire containment and hopefully of firefighters will be able to get a better handle on all the fires around the area which would alleviate some of the smoke. But in terms of longterm outlook are Forecasting Team is actually being a threat of lightning early next week on probably monday or tuesday. And thats terrifying bomb so we really hope that this weekend. They provide someone with cooler temperatures but again well really counting fire containment. We know we have a spare the air alert today tomorrow through sunday. Do you think were entering a phase where this is becoming a new normal because the fires are nowhere near. Containment were still at 0 for some of the larger fires are we going into like an extended period of just poor air quality that we need to get used to. Im fortunately i think its very unfortunate, but in years past we have experienced fire but they started in late september october even and so were at the middle of august and it is is what we are going to have to face in our new normal. Given Climate Change and making extreme. Whether that super charges are wildfires it going to be something that is just catastrophic for years to come so what about behavior so this is becoming our new normal. Talk to the folks about the Behavioral Changes that they need to make what should we do how should we adjust our daily living going forward. I love it should wildfire preparedness now im part of our new normal in addition to her quick prepared right eye on making sure your house is as. Clean as it can be for air quality that means closing your windows and doors making sure those sealed tight. But when there is a wildfire that is impacting you you can make sure to keep the smoke unhealthy air out of your home. Cleaning and changing the filters in your house in your car is off to another good way to ensure that you can you know closure bench and make sure that the air inside your car and your house is as clean as it can be and im making sure kid anybody work in our sensitive who population, anybody whos elderly anybody with preexisting conditions also take necessary precautions they need to take to make sure that they can remain safe and healthy. And christina some of those precautions include a mask. Well of dont be fooled into thinking that the cloth mask that is protecting everybody up covid19 is going to protect you from wildfire we do not recommend cloth mask or wildfire if you have to go outside and you. No, no and if you really want to wear a mask, we recommend n 95 or higher, but again it does not protect if you have a facial hair, your child. And for those who already have preexisting conditions it might limit too much air flow because the more damage. And again in says in the air that we are now were saving know. And i 95 National Correspondent so we do recommend that you just stay inside, keep yourself. A closure windows and doors and just enjoy your air clean air inside your own home. Its great advice, christina to thank you so much for joining us. Christine is with the bay area air Quality Management district. Checking in on your forecast now should would be nice to get some cooler temperatures and some rain lets head over to the Weather Center and check in with dave spahr and see whats in store store day. Well good morning robin good morning, everybody live shot coming in from san jose state and just kind of hazy skies it looks like from this appearance here there may be a logical department. Often the distance that we can still make out some blue skies. We have 70 going on in antioch but everywhere else its still in the 60s. All those graduate up the 60s to percent a rose and a bottle there in the 50s before 59 for San Francisco, 65 checking in for san jose. So we do have that front thats in our backyard, providing the onshore winds weve been talking about that helped out a little bit yesterday from what youve heard. Its going to be around for today. We expect the winds to uptick with daytime heating and thats the right direction coming in from the west. More upstream is going to be some bubbling up tropical moisture. Thats going to play in sunday night monday zone for some Thunder Showers as a possibility hopefully well get more of the rain part then the lightning with the thunderstorm part. The winds just to watch them going to play you can see covers all the coastal areas later on this afternoon you can see the peninsula. But when thats over with in the sun sets we dont have too much Holding Together for the northwest winds little bit up are in looks like but most of the bay wont be treated to consistent winds going on overnight in those inland areas, sometimes we see that and sometimes we have big time heating happening in a 100 plus well see those winds continue from that direction doesnt look like its going to cause for today, well take a little bit of that breeze going on so much the same for today weve got to warm again temperatures for the weekend. No major changes happen until we get to sunday night. Thats when a chance to get some rain in here. Maybe some claps of lightning or strikes of lightning in there to watch out for or claps of thunder to come with that all the way to monday morning 74 San Francisco 84 open 85 san jose but still plenty of 90s to be found. You can see off here to Contra Costa County midnineties also up to the north they will have some as well. 85 for san jose lot of the Santa Clara Valley that will be into the 80s territory, it looks like for all up a lot of today were going to have your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit marty all right dave look forward to that thanks a lot and still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news complete coverage of the wildfires that continue to rage across the bay area. Youre looking at video of the czu on this lightning complex fire. That has burned some 50,000 acres so far we have new detai the calming scent of lavender by downy infusions calm. Thank you so much for staying with us for this half hour, the kron 4 morning news or breaking news this morning of course the fires that continue to burn across the bay area and lets take a look at the map a map of where the fires are burning this morning. Theres the l a new lightning complex fire thats the largest its burning a 250,000 acres in the north bay so far the scu lightning complex thats in the east bay it has scorched more than a 157 1000 acres in contra costa Alameda Santa clara status law and san joaquin counties and then at the bottom of the bottom of the map thats the c z you august lightning complex fire. It has burned 48,000 acres in san mateo and in the Santa Cruz Mountains as well homes have been destroyed and thousands of people have been forced to evacuate. Now lets zoom into the czu lightning complex fires burning in san mateo and san mateo and santa cruz counties. Take a look at this map on your screen all of that red shows the thermal activity from the flames now we do know this morning. Several homes have been destroyed 64,000 people have been forced to evacuate from both of those counties kron fours reyna harvey live now in Santa Cruz County she has the latest for us reyna. Rdm here the headquarters here in Scotts Valley where the firefighters and personnel need every day and for a lot of them. This is a very personal fight a lot of them live up here in this area actually overheard a conversation with 2 First Responders they hugged and embraced one asked the other did they know how their home was doing and the other one respondent that they didnt so you have firefighters appear trying to get a handle of this fire now 50,000 acres and growing no containment so far now as the weather conditions change you know its going to just a little which will give them a slight but thats not going to last theyre going to see conditions continue to change as well as the fog thats up there in the mountains making it so hard to get out right now youre looking at. The fire that burned through Boulder Creek just destroyed and taking homes with it as it continued to burn you got more than 64,000 families forced to evacuate now again we spoke to one of the residents lives out here in Santa Cruz County who did not want to leave his home. He was trying to save other peoples homes. Take a listen. Whats going on is i i got a generator run and so i can put my to try and put out fires and ember hoses cant reach i go out to shovel and rake in trying to save the house around me. See only hope that if they catch on fire chances of my house catching on fire or and a lot more likely. So the fire personnel is asking theyre asking people. Although they know its difficult and many people want to save their homes that they dont do that because the fire personnel had to use about 3 rescue missions theyve had to take on and use multiple resources to be able to do that including someone whos missing who theyre currently trying to find at this moment, so again theyre asking people when they ask you to evacuate to do so theyre going to close in a lot of those roads. Not allowing people to come back in because their main priority, the saving lives now reporting here in Scotts Valley Reyna Harvey Kron 4 news. Just heartbreaking arena, thanks a lot for that report from the south bay. We have another map take a look at this one you can see on this map where the lnu complex fires are still going this morning the cover parts of a wide area that includes solano napa and sonoma counties this morning. We have kron fours will tran hes in vacaville taking a look at the damage their will. Whats the latest. So robin we moved to another location i want to show you more destruction and pass along new numbers as we show you this landscape. 480 structures and that involves homes are barns that have been destroyed and this is off of a state drive. This is still off the English Kills driver it was hills road. I should say, but you can see were on top of a hill and that home off in the distance went up in flames so obviously one of the 480 homes and structures that they are now considering destroyed. We do know that more than 30,000 structures and that involves homes as well are threatened at this particular time 7 containment and the fire unfortunately the overnight hours a day grow by 4,000 acres chewing up very dry lands. We do know that 4 people have died. And then for others are injured. Fortunately, no firefighters at this time they have left this area mardy and robin because theres really not much left to burn you can see the dry vegetation at cis hill here and its still smoldering, but no visible flames and thats the good part there are many homes i want to stress that there are many homes that are still here so fires being fires, its just not fair your home could be destroyed the home right next to you could be okay the home across the street could be wiped out so its very random, but they are allowing people to go through this area pick up their items and leave and just like i said how random it is that home to the left side that we showed you gone that home on top of the hill, even though it looks like the front yard is charred that home is okay so thats just the devastation thats going on for the only new lightning complex fire. That continues to burn fayed. Dont know the cause officially yet but theyre strong suggestion that it was caused by one of the 11,000 lightning strikes that we saw. On sunday sunday overnight. Mardi gras but yeah well youre right about that theres no rhyme or reason as to where those flames will go thanks left that live report. Well now lets move on lets head over to Sonoma County thats where part of the l a new lightning complex fires are burning and this time were focusing specifically on the wall birds fire thats in Sonoma County check out the map you can see the map of the burn area. And where the fire is this morning. You can also see that its burning right along lake sonoma recreational area. If youre not familiar with that its just west of windsor. Lets check in with kron 4 Sarah Stinson who is live with the latest now from hillsbor sarah. And theyre all been back live on mill creek road and actually able to get some Cell Phone Service it does get pretty spotty. This is where if you keep driving youll see a lot of the devastation that happened overnight into the Morning Hours here just west of healdsburg take a look at this video that i just shot you can see a home those burned completely down all you can see left is the chimney. The stairs up to the house. Complete devastation we know 21,000 acres have burned so far. The lot of homes we dont know specifically how many homes have burned. Actually joining us now live is a resident here he lives on mill creek lane right off of mill creek road. And this is tom martens thanks so much for joining us. You are monitoring the fire because your houses one less than a mile away from where its burning yeah well i watch the progress over the last 3 days. Ive been able to come up just up the road here and. And try to salvage things from my house and what i thought. Are the most important things in my life, you know to try to save an a. Now the fire is right behind me as you see its gotten closer last night it supposedly 5 miles. Im on the to 2 mile march, it was last night i think it was 3 and a half miles away but now its less and less than a mile half a mile away emma im staying positive. You know just time ready for the next move in case, my house burns down im preparing for that to happen it looks like it very well might happen so what can you do you know the crazy world were in right now and thinking about moving to greener horizon less dry area of the world if i if this doesnt burn burn down you seen fires before photographer years in a target for eugen documentaries on fires. And now your home is within fires distance and was a feel like is this a real well i had to. Try to counsel those who had lost their fire this was in the 2017 fire. And i back evacuated at that time now to board a good day and i made a documentary called 5 days in bodega bay about the rescue efforts and the shelters that they had set up they had set up 3 major i was trying to counsel them and now i must to myself and practice what i preach channel. The positive amendment will tell you can do you know you cant cant cry over a over material objects as long as long as your family and your friends are not dead. So not to youve been very positive you said thats just kind of who you are this is a very trying time were going through a pandemic we also have a fire near house how do you stay positive during this time what would you say to people who are in your exact situation right now. Well, its obvious that the only thing you can control in your life is your attitude she you know, i mean we cant control the virus. We cant control a crazy event like this. The only thing we can control is our attitude. Its like when youre born you pushed out of an airplane you can be in total bless the free fall or you can be a total panic and its all the same thing so you control your attitude you stay positive and positive things will come to you thats thats what i think i know its a motto great way to live your life. But for now youre monitoring situation youve been told to evacuate you did that you come back because you have a permit. Well, what are your worried its going to come back he said this may be the last time you come back. Yeah, well see what today brings you know, i mean im on my way out now i wont be back and perhaps tomorrow come and see what happened overnight, you know that. Whats on its way im living moment by moment, i mean its uncertain of course e we got it. What you can do will stay safe. Tom. Thank you so much for joining us and clearly very a hairy situation down here you just never know what could happen with the wind and the heat up again remember were going to be talking to cal fire in the 9 oclock hour so. Make sure to join us then well be asking them questions about their plan of attack for the day. Make sure to join us right here on the kron 00 04am morning news around 9. 34 now. Im live near healdsburg Sarah Stinson back to you all right what a tough interview that is and what an attitude that tom has. Just think about the thousands of people who are in that same boat wondering if theyre leaving today, what theyll come back tomorrow right and hes still thinking positive simply a faith its all we have marty. Lets get an update on the weather now safe. Ok good morning guys good morning everybody weve had a little change in the weather develop from yesterday, its with us again today to this little guy up north here. This little has to work with this high so were not getting a major major impact from a but enough to bring in a gentle marine layer and read us with fog one on this morning. But it does the trick cooling us down bringing in moisture. It certainly does help a little bit. Current winds, not real active right at this hour and were losing some of the impact from that front will see the uptick with the winds happen after we get some inland heating. Numbers this far as temperatures havent moved at all partially the re this reason is the fog and the fog clouds as i say 72 going on for any odd but everybody else is pretty much in the 60s territory, San Francisco checking in at 59. However we compare this and this has been very consistent all this morning. Far east numbers have been slightly cooler that starting to erode away in Solano County is trying to catch up a little bit here but our areas around the immediate they have been elevated a little bit from overnight because that marine layer comes in that retain some of the overnight heat that we had from last night. The breakdown as we take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza shot with those overcast skies still with us 83 by high noon at 3 oclock talking 92, you can see its reduction from those really lofty 100 plus numbers coming up in a bit. Well course we have a longer check of your forecast marty. All right dave thanks london as we do head to break we want to show you a live shot. This morning from pg any of the smoky conditions this is from the fire in vacaville, so obviously its unhealthy air around the bay area. So if you have one taken in 95 in the north bay, the woodward fires threatening more than 1600 structures in marine county get a look at all that smoke there so far has burned 2000 acres of the point rays National Seashore still 0 containment this morning. Evacuations remain in effect for those who live west of highway one from sir francis state for sir Francis Drake boulevard in a lima down south to molinas those evacuations are not mandatory at this time, but officials are warning that could change if the wind picks up. Officials there say that the fire was sparked by lightning. And were also tracking the scu lightning complex fires check out this map here it shows the thermal activity of the fires. The burning across 5 counties in Santa Clara Alameda contra costa, san joaquin and stanislaus counties. Now the fire is currently over 229,000 acres and is only 10 contained this morning 20,000 structures are still threatened. And still ahead this morning we continue to cover the breaking news on all of those fires that are damaging homes in the bay area we have a team of reporters standing by with live updates right good morning, welcome back several wildfires are scorching the bay area this morning from the north bay to the east bay in the south bay as well. And right now we want to focus on the fires that are burning in the north bay so joining us this morning on the phone vacaville fire chief Kris Concepcion good morning chief thank you for being with us we know that you guys are working hard and we appreciate you taking the time to chat with us. Any new information coming across your desk right now any updates from overnight. What can you tell us. Good morning and as far as the city of said that the laid out pretty good for us which has given us the opportunity of overnight and there are just got out of a rethink this morning that our primary objective is to solidify. The line between the fire and the city and back also that the that threat to our homes are no longer. Have you made any more progress in in slowing the spread of mean, hows it going so far. Specifically if you are portion of the it. We are not ah going from a to control we are response our objective specifically you back though is here to defend homes. And so that threat to the west and the north and weve been able to weve been able list of accusations in the city of acpo which is good. Weve got one small portion of the city. Workers a little bit of a threat sort of spy. Where are the black line between the fire and and those homes and will hopefully well be able to lift those evacuations this morning supply. Chief of you had any instances that you know of where there have been maybe sarah attempted burglaries or anything like this we hear about this at a time like this and we always shake our heads about things like this happening. Ah yes, a man or a week or that ask your question no we have as that in the back so i have heard report. And i checked with our Police Department yacht yesterday and confirmed there have been no instances of looting police specifically to the city of act will be right there. There are none of the not that of that action. So im thankful for that. Yeah we all we all are again you tell us just at his height. How close this fire came to to some of businesses and homes in the area and that bill. I was just describing or Fire Department we just had a the air has shown up out of here of them i was out in a fire like that first night and describing to them. How exactly exactly how close it got you are facing the crews that were out there that i was out there with. Base a 40 foot wall plain common some homes in the city of back though. And got yeah, well it it it basically ran at the senses. And if it werent for the actions of the firefighters a certain that it would it would have damaged or destroyed. Some homes in the city. You have a lot of reason to be proud and a lot of grateful in vacaville that you work to heroically like you did what does this what does this tell you and give you some lessons for for next time. I think the biggest lesson is that that that ive seen in the in the city and and i cant tell you how proud i am of the fact i can i can tell you right now there hero structures in the city that has been damaged or destroyed. One of the first thing that is is the hard work of our firefighters but the one that i can tell everyone else is Defensible Space and weed abatement absolutely work because that has to take place long before any fire happens. And if youre lax on any of that. That that can lead houses and structures burning because were were so aggressive with our Defensible Space center and we debate program. I have no doubt that he had not played a big part. In saving some of our structures that was actually going to be my next question about homeowners advice because folks are concerned about their properties and. Of course they want to minimize the damage so leaving the sprinklers on weve heard that helps a little bit the Defensible Space. Any other advice that you can give to homeowners to maybe i mean we know that fires are unpredictable they move quickly, but any other advice and give to homeowners. That besides the Defense Force base and making sure your your property has it is clear. Of education if you live near the if you live near the open space. Thats one thing and then if you do live near the open spaces, you said buyers predictable. And they say is it you might have to evacuate there at one point there was a 7,000 homes that were threatened that we had actually in the city and and and the biggest thing you can do to prepare for that is to be ready to evacuate make sure that youve got your what we call or go pack already and then if you get called and if you get notified their evacuation do so immediately introduce or stay put. Well chief thank you so much for joining us as it is it too early to breathe a sigh of relief.
