Does forestry and timber that has fueled the fire and helped it spread so fast theyve also not really had a great view from the sky to be able to drop a lot of water and have that air support up there in terms of trying to get the fire out. They also have a shortage of personnel because of the fires across the state of california that are burning right now so again today at 6 a and theyre going to be updating us once again on where they are and the challenges that face them today, but for now reporting here in scott sally reyna harvey kron 4 news all right rain and well look forward to that update in about an hour, thanks a lot robin. And now lets move up to the north a Sonoma County or part of the telling you lightning complex fires are still burning and were focusing on the wall birds fire thats in Sonoma County you can see a map of the burn area right there on your screen thats of the fire this morning kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live near hillsborough with the latest sara. What a devastating night and Early Morning, it has been west of healdsburg which is im live in hillsborough great now just west of here as a community theres houses theres wineries and this is what they were trying to avoid but houses have burned structures have burned overnight and its sad to report this. Take a look at the video you can see the heavy flames that have engulfed many of these homes and structures and these are all homes in the area of wall is creek road. This is right off of mill creek road actually ended my day reporting yesterday. Right off of mill creek road i drove down there and it pretty scary then it you had to drive really far into mill creek road to actually see any burn land. But then yesterday there was some winds that came in and that made the fight against this very very they were worried that it was going to travel south east and what happened was traveled south east and thats exactly what happened as you can see i mean the flames going through and into a home is taking a completely over. At last check the wall bridge fire has burned 20,000 acres, its 0 contained. And im sure this morning we will learn about how many homes and structures burned. Whats scary in that video is it must have been raging fast because theres no firefighters in that video and there was none on in the area when these homes just went up in flames, it happens quickly and they were fighting this fire in these dense dense where ive been live all week. The armstrong woods area and they were trying to just keep it there, well put their fire lines get their dozer line strong that it didnt travel down, but it did and that was the biggest fear and now it has become reality this is an area keep in mind. Sonoma county that has a lot of scars from previous fires, this is not the first time theyve evacuated. And if youre watching this and you live in that area mill creek road Wallace Creek road. We definitely feel for you west side road as well that is the area is it is either threatened or as you saw has already been so. As day like becomes is the sun comes up we will get a better idea of just how much damage. It is a scene of very dark. That will be catching up with calfire this mornings best especially with the the person whos in charge of the lnu complex Paul Lowenthal im a texan right now see if he has any updates for us, but a very devastating one of the scariest times in the bay area because we have fires all across and so we feel for you if you are going through this is scott of the gut wrenching i have family and friends that have had to flee from their home across the entire bay area. So stay tuned, were going to keep you updated along the way for now ill send it back to you in the newsroom. All right sir that such heartbreaking news to see. Thanks a lot for that report will see 7 about an hour. Robin. Well also in the north bay, the wood fires threatening more than 1600 structures in marin county has burned 2000 acres and Point Reyes National seashore and unfortunately still 0 contained. Evacuation warnings are still in effect for those living west of highway one from sir Francis Drake boulevard all the way over to alina and down to bolinas those evacuations are not mandatory for now, but officials are warning folks that that could change if the wind picks up so make sure you stay alert. Officials say the fire was also sparked by lightning. Well to the north bay and napa county a community in the various a highland lies in ruins check out this several homes just gone, cars and melted the air of course tilse filled with smoke and smell the burning gas. The hennessey fire just swept through this neighborhood wednesday. Despite a mandatory evacuation order, some neighbors decided to stay behind and protect their homes. Says shells see that house and the move to the next neighbor and same thing there and then because i have a big Defensible Space here theyve got all their vehicles over here and parked in. Luckily, we managed to save few were happy. Well fire crews will remain on scene until further notice just so you know knock down any hot spots and also make sure that those homes are protected the ones that are Still Standing. Well continuing a wildfire coverage following evacuation orders in vacaville hundreds of families are still waiting to hear if their homes are Still Standing meanwhile, others return to see their homes turned to ash ryan hill shares the story of a family whos struggling to figure out whats next. Was probably some of the hardest steps to take and the war sites to see Senior Property of nearly 20 years now look like a war zone. Still so balthazar remembers waking up to bright light, thinking the son had just come up. But he was only been night and look at the clock still tiny little work and it was not. It fire right up the top tier. Then we evacuated. Balthazar stayed behind to fight the fires a lot of his contracting equipment and most of his property were lost in the blaze. Thats what matters lot of other equipment material but one thing is Still Standing the thing everyone hope survives home. And a neighbor helped my. Mike johnson came down in put up the fires of trying to climb the columns a neighbor helping another neighbor as their own home was going up in flames is a good night. It can do nothing. You got to go help. Still sos neighbor wasnt the only one lending a helping hand out tow truck driver brian smith drove his truck through different vacaville neighborhoods alerting people to get out of dodge another selfless act in a hectic time. All i could think of a psych i like the last fires. You know people 9 waking up in their houses on fire. And you have no time. Vacaville smokefilled homes destroyed. Flames still burning and people finding the light through the haze. 4 hours later is right here in the back door. It can to fast. After surviving nothing nothing and think about it or landed still alive. Thats tough to watch. Were also tracking the scu lightning complex fires. You can take a look at the map that shows the thermal activity all of those fires are burning across 5 counties in Santa Clara Alameda contra costa, san joaquin and stanislaw county 20,000 structures are threatened this morning. San francisco county is still on the states covid19 watch list this morning and thats tough news for businesses hoping to resume indoor services, San Francisco. The Citys Department of Emergency Management says that San Francisco is still seen too many positive cases to be taken off of the watch list now this is a huge blow to businesses like hair salons and gyms many of those Business Owners say they dont have the space nor the money to operate outdoors. The result is people are going out of business weve lost 7 gyms in our cut this coalition in the last 3 weeks i dont expect this to be a landslide. Her were local neighborhood gyms just walking right as they cant afford to sail. Well the San Francisco chamber of commerce says the citys Small Business community has seen a 91 decrease in Economic Activity during the pandemic. Now to the east bay this morning, the Richmond Police department is mourning the loss of one of its own. The Department SaysSergeant Virgil thomas passed away from complications due to covid19 Sergeant Thomas served for more than 24 years with the richmond pd he also served as the president of the Richmond Police association. He leaves behind his wife and 4 children. The virus has also been deadly us in Alameda County with 231 deaths. You can find a complete list of cases by county always listed on our website just head over to kron 4 dot com. All right, lets go ahead get a check of the Weather Forecast today yesterday fell to just a couple degrees cooler but boy was welcome. You know it wasnt that marine layer coming in to help side a bit as well good morning marty good morning, everybody. And not too much fog. No delays going on sfo which is good news there. Temperatures pretty much holding now in the 60s were actually little bit more mild around the perimeter of the bay because of all that marine layer Holding Temperatures up a little bit it acts acts is a greenhouse effect a little bit. Inland temperatures were a little cooler this morning, a little front up towards our north is driving this onshore. Wind that will be the case early on until we get a switch again as we get into early next week this highs going to retrograde back to of the west a little bit and usher in some of that tropical moisture and that means a shot of rain for sunday night into monday morning potentially. Hopefully theyll come without lightning bolts of future cast wind gust show that a continuation of the onshore winds. They do favor a lot of the north bay as you can see and the peninsula, some of that filters out as you can see off to the valleys. Throughout the east bay. All right for humidity levels we can see them drop off this afternoon, but nothing too too low. Were still in the 30s. This afternoon and then it gets 3 flooded again with that fog coming back the marine layer to greet us for saturday morning. Saturday afternoon september go drop off and we are going to get a little drier we get into next week but at least we have little this marine layer coming back youre trying to help out the best that they can so for today. Again we have 3rd return the onshore flow going on still warm and for the weekend. Looks like those temperatures a whole pretty close to where they are for right now it sunday night things start to get interesting with a chance of rain starting to develop into monday morning might be potential for some dry lightning and that were looking at 74 for a high today, San Francisco oakland checking in at 80 85 for san jose but were still looking at plenty of 90s and mid 90s that that 95 going on for can conquered looks like up to the north bay weve got some lower 90s 89 therefore nevado 74 for San Francisco course coming up in a bit. Well have your 4 zone forecast for robin checking a hot spot. Right now robin i do indeed its in San Francisco day we have a couple of lanes blocked on highway one oh one this is northbound before vermont, not too far from hospital curve. A truck flipped over at around 4. 15 this morning, the 2 right lanes are closed. Fluid spilled across the lanes so theyre bringing in sweepers to get this cleaned up this may be with us for a while its an overturned you know those crashes take longer. So the 2 right lanes are closed a specnal Traffic Alert in place its been backing up off and on tort to 80 right now looks good just a few minutes ago was crawling. So thats going to impact your commute to downtown San Francisco or out of San Francisco if youre trying to access the bay bridge if youre only trying to get into downtown. Im suggesting to 80 instead of one oh one because one o one keeps backing up. And were going to be looking at this for quite some time so avoid the stretch if you can well have more traffic updates coming up a little bit later party all right robin was still ahead on kron 00 04am morning news will have complete coverage of the wildfires still raging across the bay area. As you look at video from calfire of the seas eu august lightning complex fire. We have the latest details coming up. Lets show you a map of where the fires are burning this morning check him out on your screen. There is the l in new lightning complex fire. Its the largest since eyes burning 215,000 acres in the north bay. The scu lightning complex thats in the east bay it has scorched more than a 157,000 acres in contra costa Alameda Santa clara status, la and san joaquin counties and then if you look to the south at the bottom of your screen. The bottom of the map there thats the scenes eu august lightning complex fire. It is burned 48,000 acres in the sand, the tail and Santa Cruz Mountains homes have been destroyed and thousands of people have been forced to evacuate. Well lets zoom into the czu lightning complex fires burning in san mateo and santa cruz counties. You can see the red on your map that shows the thermal activity from all the flames now we know this morning that several homes have been destroyed thousands of people have been forced to evacuate. Kron fours reyna harvey is live in Santa Cruz County this morning. She has the latest for us reyna. Marty good morning. Yes, im here in Scotts Valley where yesterday, thousands of families had to evacuate. I was able to talk to some of them before they left a lot of them anxious not knowing when theyll be able to return the right now the fire continues and im joy live this morning with captain garcia. Hes with cal fire and you know go ahead and walk into the shot real quick. So the viewers at home can see you. Can you give us an update of where you guys sit at right now currently with the fire is 40,000 acres buzzer percent contained. Crews have been working all night trying to get an upper hand on this. 9 i talked to yesterday and i i can take it you probably have not slept much since youve been out here coordinating. You guys have several challenges at the start of the day what were some of those that you saw over the course of the fires that continue to grow. Well some of the challenges as you mentioned there there was cruz who hadnt slept in over 48 hours. It was just a. It was just off to the races, some right away. So we had a procruz in strategic areas to try and get an upper hand on this. You know its always like you said a team effort, i know you guys are lacking in personnel because there are fires across the bay area. For the viewers at home who are watching many of them may had to leave this area to evacuate whats the most important thing they can do to keep themselves safe and as well as first taking the invocation warning making sure that they have a pre planned ahead of time. They know there are the route that theyre going to take. Some of these roads are super narrow which access a very difficult for. Cars Fire Police Officers trying to get in and protect the area. All right captain garcia thank you so much for joining me take a good look today. All right so again at a 6 oclock im less than 30 minutes. Theyre going to give us an updated briefing, you know the fire continues to grow out here we also know that you see santa cruz was also evacuated there. No word on how many students or faculty were there the time but many of them have to leave a lot of the people that i talked to who were evacuated from Scotts Valley here yesterday, many of them are sleeping in parking lots a different locations overnight so again a lot of uncertainty this morning. Hopefully we can keep you updated with those numbers. Let you know where they said the fire fight with that update press conference were going to take a live at 6 oclock for now reporting here in Scotts Valley reyna harvey kron 4 news all right dana, thanks a lot for that live report. And people in vacaville are assessing the damage after their homes were destroyed by the lnu complex fires and you can see just basically whats left of one home after the woman who lived there was forced to evacuate her house just reduced to rubble very sad see it sure is. Well take a look at this map where you can see the lnu complex fires are burning. They cover a wide parts become why parts of an area that includes solano napa and sonoma counties kron fours will tran is live this morning. Hes in vacaville, he has the latest for us. Im on English Hills road and this is one of the neighborhoods that was decimated by the fires weve been showing you Pleasants Valley road which is only several miles from here. But its on the other side of the hill and that just goes to show you how far the fire jumped from one side of vacaville to the other and you can see the damage at this particular home here and there are many homes along English Hills road just like this you can see that rv right there just burned to the ground. Even the tires are gonna propane tanks are on their side there fortunately its not smoldering at this time. Power lines on the ground. A lot of people i saw actually we drove through the checkpoints today asking if they can come back at the very least a look at their livestock now we do know that this fire race through here on tuesday overnight in fact, heres video of it raced through here. Many people got that knock at the door from the Sheriffs Department others. They didnt have to be told they knew that the fire was no longer a lake area said that in fact it was moving through this location and getting dangerously close to their house unfortunately from the l a new fires. We are hearing that 4 people died. 4 others injured. But no firefighters fortunately, and there are hundreds of firefighters being thrown at this. No firefighters are injured just yet hopefully that will remain as far as the cause of the fire of course they are strongly speculating that the fire was started by lightning that we saw on sunday in the overnight hours. Many people. They are allowed to return i was at a checkpoint, i did see people allowed to go through the checkpoints but theyre not allowed there for very long they go get some personal items and then they come back. The good news as far as this fire. I dont see any visible flames robin marty but what i can tell you. Breathing is awful probably the most worst. That weve seen over the past several days because its still smoldering, it just smells terrible. And lets face it. Any time you have burned metal and rubber and all the other things involved with cars and vehicles. It makes the situation even worse. Back to you. It sure does all right well, thanks a lot for that live report. And now lets move on to Sonoma County thats where part of the l a new lightning complex fires are burning right now and were focusing on the wall brits fire thats in Sonoma County you can see a map on your screen of the area that that fire is burning its a circle there highlighted in red kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live right now near hillsbor with the latest sarahs. Robin actually live in healdsburg just make sure i have Cell Phone Service so i can report to whats going on here, its been a devastating night and Early Morning hours for west of healdsburg because a lot of homes we dont know how many have burned down in a community and area right west of healdsburg take a look at that video you can see the heavy flames engulfing these homes and these structures in the area this is exactly what firefighters were trying to avoid the video youre looking at is right off of west side road you drive down west side road you turn right on mill creek road you keep driving down there and then you turn right on Wallace Creek road and that is where this video was shot this area. Theres no Cell Phone Service, its very remote. But theres a lot of homes in the area and theres huge redwood trees very narrow roads. Its a very tough fight for firefighters but they were concentrating their efforts more in the upper woods area near armstrong woods they were hoping you know by guerneville that this fire would not travel southeast which is what it did overnight so that is just horrific to see people fled from this area they evacuated hopefully. We know there was a few people who stayed behind and i hope if anyone lived in that area they got out in time because it was so fast the not even a single firefighters in that video because it probably just rolled right on through there. We know that 20,000 acres have been burned in the wall bridge fire that is in this area west of healdsburg is also another fire in Sonoma County the myers fire and that one sits at 3,000 acres and still most buyers at 0 contained now ive. Message my a Public Information officer for the lnu complex Paul Lowenthal im waiting to hear if he has any updates for us but often they have to wait til the sun comes up to get a better idea of what damage has been done. Its just so terrible to see because yesterday he said this is the most significant area the walbridge fire. They said were going to do air drops were going to have boots on the ground and we knew everything we can to stop it from heading into those areas of those communities into healdsburg is that is the direction he was heading. And it looks like it was just not successful in terms of saving homes but as i said hopefully people evacuated homes can be rebuilt structures can be rebuilt lives of the most important thing so well get an update for you this morning, were trying to you know get you as much information as possible, especially if your home is in that area, im sure this is gut wrenching for you so stay tuned right here to the kron 4 morning news and well keep you updated along the way. For now im live in healdsburg Sarah Stinson kron 4 news all right sarah boyack heart goes out to the people there thanks a lot for that live report problem. We have an interactive map on our website kron 4 dot com and actually shows all of the fires that are actively burning right now and were all of the Evacuation Centers are because thats important to us to evacuate, you need to know where to go we also have a list that were updating of up to date evacuation orders and warnings on our website all of that is on kron 4 dot com. And now we want to continue our Team Coverage with meteorologist dave spahr hes tracking the heat, the wind the port air quality dave whats in store for friday. Ok good morning robin good morning everybody without a little bit of that fog coming in with that marine layer helping out a touch of wedding for some gray skies off towards the distance a little bit. We are looking at the fog that watch intensify a little bit more over the next hour. This is the typical fashion, although the fog is not as widespread as it sometimes is, but at least well take it slow but that marine layer stepping back and we should see more of that again tomorrow with that front kind of in our backyard. Things dont really flip until we get to sunday night monday. We have maybe a chance of rain but its the cautionary tale of maybe some strikes a lightning thrown in there too east bay shoreline in the mid 60s inland much the same 50s and 60s mixture up to the north bay 63, san jose. And the contrast map notice thats much cooler when you go inland than it is around the immediate bay thats because of the marine layer and that moisture acts as a bit of a greenhouse effect in terms of keeping elevate a little bit more so than we saw even as recently as yesterday, 68 to 09 00am by high noon word, 83 and coming up well have a look at your 4 zone forecast marty. All right dave thanks lot were going take a short break, but first want to leave you with camera taking a look at the hazy smoke from the fire in vacaville thats from pga. Welcome back everyone lyft and uber will not shut down services in california after a small victory in court. The companies were set to suspend operations thursday night to their drivers rally to make sure that did not happen. A new state law now requires Rideshare Companies to classify drivers as employees uber and lyft fought to keep that from happening. The drivers are currently contractor, so they dont get benefits Rideshare Companies were granted an emergency stay. They have until september to outline plans for employees in the meantime, the companies are pushing for a referendum in november that would exempt them from the law. Well now to a developing story that were following for you this morning, a toddler is in the hospital after getting shot in the arm in the north bay. This happened at around 7. 30 last night near trinity and louisiana streets. The lake pd say that a woman and a man were also shot and they both passed away. Theres no word this morning on the childs condition or what caused that shooting. Well the San Francisco now a man has been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting the shooting happened early thursday morning on a feral street near Sergeant John mccauley park. Thats in the tenderloin district thats where officers found the victim right there on the sidewalk Robert Brewer was arrested thursday afternoon. He said booked into jail for murder. And as we head to break we want to show you this map from the bay area air Quality Management district is shows just how bad the air quality is the darker the color, the worst the air quality you can see on your map right now were concentrating in the Santa Cruz Mountains and also into Livermore Tri valley area so be extra careful as you head out this morning, well be ri welcome back everyone, lets head straight to the weather center. We need to get another update on todays forecast with meteorologist dave spahr dave ok, good morning robin good morning, everybody we been notice a change that happened from yesterday with this little front of our backyard, providing the onshore flow which was nice relief that we have i want to jump over real quick over to the east because this is something youre going to be hearing about over the next couple of days because we have kind of a traffic jam developing. The tropical depression way out just east of the caribbean as we go forward it becomes a Tropical Storm to the bahamas and say about well monday or so yeah around there wednesday, rather you can see in the gulf of mexico coast weve got ourselves a hurricane all right they can know that there will be a hurricane there from middle of the week. Meanwhile another system comes into the gulf of mexico, this is about tuesday and dont you just know it along the gulf coast or a cane thats about tuesday or so so theres a lot of activity tropical wise going on here in all this moisture and not much of the central gulf of mexico. As far as our impact that looks like that high which will be on the east side of is going to keep it all away from us which is probably good we could use the moisture we probably would get instability with it so thats probably a good thing, but sometimes these things can carve out some of that moisture and said that over to the southwest live shot going on right now from u c berkeley there you see some of the haze off in the distance a little that marine layer checking in at 60s. We have on the east bay shoreline end to the east bay up to the north bay weve got 50s and 60s mixture here 63 for san jose and speaking of tropical, this is more likely this leftover tropical system of the pacific drifting north wide on the backside of that same high i spoke of might linger to give us some showers for sunday night into monday morning.
