Cherry glen road. Now yesterday 24 hours ago there was no problem on the freeway but in the afternoon chp officers had to shut down both directions because of the fire and now that the sun is up. We can see why. I was here at around 6 oclock in the morning that landscape right in front of you that was fine the fire was along the ridge line but it kept moving. It charged the hillside, usually roads or i natural firebreak but because the fire was so intense, it actually jumped the freeway went on to the other side you can see its still smoldering and that ridge line that hill over there caught on fire. So for a while thousands of drivers were going down or through an fire and thats why they had to shut it down for everyone safety i did see in the overnight hours some fire trucks parked along the base of the hills just to keep a close eye on the situation right now as you can clearly see. Yes there are some trees that remain, but the dry vegetation has all. Been incinerated so theres nothing to burn at this time will swing the camera over here. Thats where the neighborhood is thats where most of the homes are and some of those homes or just obliterated this morning when the fire raced through their neighborhood in the overnight hours moving from Lake Hennessey tobaccoville. And now we want to continue our focus on the l a new lightning complex fire which has increased to a 131,000 acres. They are affecting people that are living right there in Sonoma County. Join us on the phone this morning. Sergeant juan valencia with the Sonoma County sheriffs sergeant thanks a lot for joining us this morning. Give us an update if you could on the evacuations in the area. So at this time we dont have orders or warning going out at the order continue to monitor the fire. Working closely with cal fire. In the mister that were going to have to do any further evacuations. The total acreage for the walker expired little its 14,500 acres. What person can and information that i have teams morning was at first, i was kind of brain cells. So theyre going to try to attack that with by eric black today. So the thing i want to remind the or weeks. I think health is in a heavily impacted especially northern california. All the agencies are court with the high low siren. So if you hear the highlands from which sounds very different than a regular starter and the person that its an emergency and we are asking people to evacuate immediately. Also sending a officer door to door to contact people. And were also using our social media we do Everything Everything is all the message in a motion spanish to reach Dollar Community and then at this time right now we have a total of approximately 30,000 people that have been evacuated in. Parts of northern Sonoma County in washington county. And for the people who have been evacuated as youre sending them over to specific evacuation centers. What type or resources are available for people there are you getting help from like the red cross or fema or what can they expect. What i recommend sense is another coronavirus its been a big impact right now. We have local emergency. The county is in charge satellite a place of work people could stations cooling stations. An area that people could for food and stuff like that so i would recommend people to go to socalled emergency higher up information on shelters. Started you mentioned that the fire seems to be moving what does that does that a new threat to any subdivisions or any people who are living in the path of the fire. Here are the fire is north. Armstrong that top of armstrong would and yet its obviously a big concern about why we could not that weve actually shun better if you get people out there were fire personnel to go in there and fight the fire due to occur. You know what theyre good after expert in that field. So now that were getting the population or were able to go under by fire and not worry about he backed motion. Well the fire moving so fast and you know a small percentage contained do you think its likely that the Evacuation Orders will be extended or is it too soon to tell. Its too soon to but we are working closely with cal fire other the expert so we sat there with them on and they provide information to us. And obviously our number one could turn as. Public and we want to make sure our Community Safe and that we dont lose anybody in the fire. We want to get that information out to preventable we see people who live by putting information out quickly. Inaccurately. Sergeant one your deputies been telling you about cooperation or lack of cooperation from homeowners Property Owners whove been told to evacuate. We. Not getting a lot of good to talk a lot of people are unfortunately, this is our 3rd big part within the last couple years, yeah. It its safe to say we do have some experience now from the community the public looking at us or for direction. We do have your members are refusing to evacuate. But we do remind them that its important not to evacuate because now theyre going to put our say your our fighters the theatrical we have to go up there you back here and rescue them. And for people who may have to evacuate or maybe under a warning talk to the folks about what they should be prepared to do weve talked about having Important Documents ready, you know your cell phones charge what sort of advice can you get for people who may be under a warning right now were just standing by and waiting to see whats going to happen. How do they prepare. I would tell people that are that in that are in the warning there obviously have your stuff some dry air is ready to go in case you do get an emergency evacuation. And and People BetterCommunity Members areas that are surrounding a warning. Offer to have their whole batch ready to go. It just makes it much easier not a stressful because we all know during a stressful time were going to forget to do certain things or ticket turn things that are or arent aware that there not replaceable so i would recommend everybody or pressure community is do you have that opportunity that time. To do that already. You had a time not its and its going to help you want in the long run. Well sergeant as you this is the 3rd year in a row people in Sonoma County have had to deal with fires evacuations and wondering whether or not their homes are going to be intact when they when they return. What are some of top things that you have learned over the past 3 years in terms of communication with the residents in terms of just how you get the word out to to people that its time to get out. The next thing about work be in the Public Information officer for the Sheriffs Office is that. During a stressful time or during under an emergency people look to the Sheriffs Office for notification and im truly important that we provide clear Accurate Information theyre at and very quickly. Because Public Safety is in danger. So when we are able to do that in both english and spanish. I believe that there is some of the best beer in the eye of thats been triggered by. Now another ah huge a fire in an area. I believe our messaging is really important she keeping people calm and not stress. Yeah. And are you are you still using the santa rosa fairgrounds as an evacuation point it was at only 4 yesterday or is that still in place. As of yesterday it was still in place and i know they have a had a place in beaufort but then that its kind of over it until 4 different place on a warning. Im not sure i dont have the updated information order. The venue place theyre going to be especially up north. Okay. Well Sergeant Juan valencia thank you so much for joining us and taking some time out of your very busy morning. And we wish you nothing but the best as you work your way through yet another fire in Sonoma County. Thank you. Well now we want to go to these sees eu lightning complex fire thats burning in san mateo and Santa Cruz County check this out look at that. This is video from yesterday. This is actually from a tweet from cal fire just shows you that thick smoke and the flames there in the Santa Cruz Mountains so lets show you the aftermath this is from the Boulder Creek area you can see the devastation. Theres homes have been reduced to rubble. As the flames just continue to burn right along the roads are going through the mountains, the Santa Cruz Mountains we also have a map a map that shows you exactly where that fire is burning this morning you can see it. Outlined in red there thats a fire thats burning along highway one and highway 9 in Boulder Creek. Kron fours reyna harvey is live at cal fires command center in Scotts Valley this morning she has the latest for us reyna. The morning, im joined live right now with chief police with cal fire chief billy see and i was able to talk to him, although hes incredibly busy this morning because of the fire is growing exponentially so one can you give us some of yours at home an update on this fire. Currently seas eu lightning complex consists of 22 fires which have grown together though for 40,000 acres and 0 containment as of this morning. Now i know you mention in the press conference this is a fire and all the years of your experience we havent seen anything quite like this and why is that. Well the northern coast of this year was in a drought situation in a compound that with the a weather event that were currently having with the extreme heat and the wind and then the Lightning Storm that initiated all the fires to begin with. The ground in terrain and feels or driving with the wind conditions and its creamy a major problem for firefighters on to tame it is a effort. A plan of action for the teams today, how are they going to tackle the fire. This morning. Right now with limited resources on the incident or do employ protection in trying to get as many civilians out as quick as possible. So the we maintain safety for all the residents of citizens here both in Santa Cruz County and San Mateo County also understand there are some residents. Who dont want to leave their homes a lot of them have been here for many years. So thats also been a difficulty for you guys as well. So whats the message. Do you have to share with those families this morning. With this far as a dangerous situation. Were working diligently to get the populace out of the area as quick as possible. When we issue evacuation warnings and orders everyone please listen to theres a reason why were doing that its for everyone safety we want him out of the area so we can have a safer is for firefighters work in and take care of all the residents, the citizens of these 2 counties. All right. Thank you tc for joining us this morning now youve been looking at the images from the fire, you know, several families forced to evacuate more than 20 structures with 22,000 families and now we know that numbers gone up people have been asked to leave, but theyre saying it. This is a dangerous fire. This is very very strange for fire, not to be at this a magnitude in raging in this way near the coastal areas so very unpredictable the firefighters are using all of their effort here to try to get it put out robin marty. All right reena thank you. The breaking news that were following weve just learned that a pg e employee has died while helping First Responders battle, the l a new complex fire that worker was based out of vacaville we dont have many more details to tell you about but well go ahead and let you know more about this story as we get more information. All right tracking that a firefighting conditions crews are dealing with out there, lets check in with dave spahr to see how the weather is going to shape up today, dave ok, good morning robin good morning, everybody just keep up the score with a we had a lot of advisers and whatever going on with the heat that we had and even the red flag warning its now been reduced to Solano County which is technically around for another hour because of some dry winds the we potentially could have but winds will be switching in direction. Coming more on shore compliments of this front up to the northwest i should say winds winds but still at least this will bring back the marine layer thickening up and more fog to deal with to the High Pressure will start to weaken a little bit to going in our weekend live shot we have from timber on that we can see the haze off to the distance, the blue skies aloft. A current check into those winds it looks like its a little bit on shore as we speak but a little northerly flow of winds which is sometimes we look at it is somewhat offshore but theyre favoring a little bit the northwest at least at this hour now. Temperatures havent moved a whole lot we have mostly 60s in the east bay 73 for any aac got 60s and 50s up to the north bay was 64 for san jose but a lot of green on the board for right now again that will be changing as the day wears on and we are trailing again this morning the week from yesterday so thats good news going into a hot afternoon which bills like this 85 at high noon 3 oclock were at 91. But at least not 100 plus or improving on that front too well be at war or low a little bit more on your forecast coming up in just try my 4 mini munchies with marinara or ranch. You should be wearing a mask outdoors right, but Officials Say that you know certain mass school that dont have a filter may not really be helping write so many people they they woke up to find ash on their windshield this morning check this out you see it all over the cars, their air Quality ManagementOfficials Say that the smoke and ash from dozens of fires that are burning throughout the bay area. Its actually getting trapped in our valleys and its causing high levels of pollution. So they say that you know these facial coverings that we were wearing they offer a false sense of security in these unhealthy air quality conditions. So the mass of people ran for cover laws do anything for particulate matter theyre not me for that. 3 and then down a surgical masks cars will not stop the particulate pollution from getting into your lungs. And 95 or higher amounts to prevent that like the scent. If you had you know if you have the area here in a smaller face and very same face in norman says it will seal. All right so you need that special in 95 mask, a spare the air alert was extended to sunday children older folks, those with respiratory and heart issues are among those who should take extra precautions limit your outdoor activity. Well the east Bay Regional Park District has closed all regional parts until further notice check out the list except for some shoreline park. So heres a list. The parks that are closed Officials Say the extreme fire danger and poor air quality are adding to the park safety concerns, 85,000 acres have burned in the region so far and again the district is advising against using regional parks in the east bay. Good morning, welcome back to the kron 00 04am morning news we continue to follow breaking news, those fires burning across the bay area and all of these wildfires are happening right in the middle of a blistering heat wave a little bit cooler today but its still quite hot out there. You can see the areas that where the fires are burning check out the map on your screen. We have the l in new lightning complex fires. Burning in sonoma lake napa and solano counties of course theres a wood fire thats burning near Point Reyes National seashore we have the scu complex fire that consist of several fires burning in contra costa Alameda Santa clara status, la and san joaquin counties. Well as focus on the l a new complex fire. This map shows the area that the fires burned so far its outlined in red on your screen. The fire has crept into parts of vacaville and move towards fairfield as well. Evacuation orders are in place in parts of both of those cities. Lets check in with kron fours will tran who has the latest this morning from vacaville. I want to show you another home on Pleasant Valley road that was destroyed by the fire. This one at one time im sure was a big beautiful home. Its still smoldering at this time after catching fire in the overnight hours. Yesterday you can see its just rubble at this point. Well walk around here just to show you. Just how horrible the situation is fortunately. We did not hear of anybody inside this home being injured or killed by the fire, but look for yourself at one time fully furnished beautiful belongings. Valuable items instead this morning you can see it looks like a moonscape everything is either crumbled melted. It looks like an explosion and over there. Look at that its still smoldering at this time. And they want to step back a little bit just to show you the landscape Pleasant Valley road. This area was shut off to the public. As people had to flee for their lives when they got the knock at the door by the Sheriffs Department this really nothing left to come back to foremost a Pleasant Valley road there are offshoots of this road where neighborhoods are still intact look at this field here this home caught on fire but that field looks pretty much intact. It did destroy the trees in front of this house here. Fell to the ground theres a boat off in the distance a little bit chart look at how hot the heat was this a onetime obviously was. Metal it was straight, but the heat was so intense that it actually twisted the metal. Heres the side of the house in the back of the house. Still on fire off in the distance you can see the cars just destroyed as well. Still smoldering, and that pays off in the background that is not fog thats the smoke is still sits on top of us, breathing is still very difficult. Fortunately, it is not windy at this time and we dont see any embers flying around that could cause other fires in this area we do know that at least 50 structures were destroyed. Thousands of others are still in harms way. Has just heartbreaking to see that thanks well well we continue our Team Coverage on the l a new lightning complex fire. The fires are also impacting people who are living in the north bay in Sonoma County kron 4 Sarah Stinson live on the scene with the latest from the large walbridge fire that burns there sarah. Marty most people have evacuated the guerneville area which is where i live now im here at the Fire Department where a lot of the crews have either just come down from a the area where its burning up above or people are heading out of seeing them, you know filling up their tanks with more water from the fire and hydrants but i did drive up to where i was live yesterday which we have video up from yesterday about 24 hours ago you can see where i was at there and it you know was burning, but they were expecting it worse it later in the day and it did on Sweetwater Springs road near the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve actions above that in near guerneville and they said around 3 oclock the wind picked up and sure enough it blew right through there that was raging they were able to stop it guerneville has been untouched but cant say the same for some of the. Buildings that burned in the area some structures that were damaged i just drove in there and firefighters told me is not safe to go in there. Its theres downed trees and sure enough, yes thats exactly what i saw. I just spoke with cal fire got an update Sonoma County has of course 2 fires burning right now the wall bridge which is the one im near burned 14,500 acres and then the myers fire which is more towards the coast near jenner that one is has burned 3,000 acres, we know. A total of 131,000 acres across the whole l a new lightning complex that sonoma lake and napa counties affected thats 10,000 up from yesterday so it raged more and burn more and we know that a 105 structures have been destroyed 70 damaged in right now about 30,000 are at risk so theyre working to protect the structures protect the nearby communities of healdsburg santa rosa. And of course kernsville live right its definitely burning by the coast yesterday it burned southeast so it pushed southeast up in the hills near where i was yesterday. I mean it looks pretty devastating up there a lot of burned and charred land today, theyre going to be facing some very hot temperatures a mid to high 90s at least here in greenville and so thats going to make it a tough fight, and well be talking to one of the cal fire. A Public Information officers in about an hour so join me on kron on or 24 7 news at 10 00am well be live with an update in an interview there so make sure you join us then for now well send it back to you marty. All right sir, thanks a lot for that report from the north bay problem. And now we want to go to the seas eu lightning complex fire thats burning in san mateo and santa cruz counties we have a map and a map shows exactly where the fire is burning this morning checking out of your screen you can see the little out line there. The fire. The outline red, its burning right along highway one and highway 9 in Boulder Creek. Kron fours reyna harvey is live at cal fires command center thats in Scotts Valley this morning she has the latest for us martin robin good morning. Its so what youre seeing right now behind me this is a full force effort you have agencies all across the bay area you have the california conservation corps behind me there directing traffic you have people were being asked to leave their home in neighboring areas driving by also have several different Law Enforcement agencies in the area coming here to meet Sheriffs Departments from n across the bay area even saw fire teams as far as a Riverside County out here trying to put out this fire, we know the fire currently sits at about 40,000 plus acres we also know that in terms of evacuation more than 22,000 people have had to leave their home any and so even in neighboring parking lot in a taking that there are resources to family members houses, youre looking right now at flames overnight you can see several homes in trees or destroyed you see this is also making it very difficult for a lot of the firefighters putting out the fire, especially those trees there because of the timber very dry and its burning a lot of the fire very quickly and rapidly so he went to a press conference earlier today and heres what they have to say youre asked to evacuate evacuate do not wait. We last evening threat that yesterday areas that were under Evacuation Order people remained and stay to the right. But when the time came to evacuate and for First Responders it put the Public Safety and safety of our First Responders in jeopardy. Its gonna be an active fire fight today and for the coming days again with the. Conditions that were experiencing the president and with the resources that we are lacking we ask you to help us to help you to do our jobs and keep the public safe. A final this fire continues to grow and get worse, they dont see them getting any containment anytime soon so thats why theyre asking people to leave the area another point they part of his lot of people may be afraid to go to some of the shelters because of coronavirus theyre telling people you know the staff at the shelters are taking the precautions also theyre saying if you have family members who you are comfortable with being in their homes for the time being that would also be a good suggestion in a way to keep yourself safe. So again well be updating you can check online for those evacuations at kron 4 will bring you the latest as soon as we get that information for now reporting here in scott valley reyna harvey kron 4 news all right, thank you for the update rain a party. Well, you know right now is a perfect time to download the kron on mobile app because we have local news coverage, 24 7 on the app. It allows you to stay connected to the latest fire dangers across the bay area also get weather updates weather forecast. And the latest on power outages. Its the kron on app yeah i have it on my phone marty im here yeah i left the house yesterday and i found myself checking in with the app you know just to make sure i was. Tony and to see what was going on while i was away from home away from the tv so its definitely great to have. But we have days far standing by hes in the Weather Center with a look at the forecast in just the conditions that firefighters are dealing with this morning day. Yeah good morning robin good morning, everybody a live shot coming in from sfo here weve had no delays going on and theres the blue skies but again some of that haze. And some fog near the coastal areas, temperatures are holding pretty much in the 60s. Good job this morning. A little bit cooler than what weve seen earlier this week 50s meanwhile to the coast 55 San Francisco, 64 for san jose. But things are changing this high is waning upstream we do have a move frontal boundary here to invite in an on shore Marine Incorporated loaded up marine layer coming here that will all work in tandem for much better conditions. Ahead as we head on into the weekend it looks breaking it all down for you here we have some minor cooling here, okay temperatures are dropping out of 100 or so but the winds will be returning those onshore winds for the weekend. Not too much goes on temperatures actually pop a little bit on saturday. But then were watching early next week for maybe some rain coming on monday that would be good but dry lightning is a problem that is not good highs today, 73 San Francisco 87 going on for san jose. Oakland, youre looking at 79 across the broader bay. No hundreds to be found here but upper 90s well inland will be have the 4 zone forecast for you later. Welcome back everyone in marin county residents in bolinas along the coast are under evacuations warnings now this comes as the wood wood fire burns in the Point Reyes National seashore at least 1100 acres of wild land has burned so far there the marin county fire chief says that the fire may have started from a Lightning Strike or it began as a spot fire from another blaze that just kept growing because of the windy conditions around 125 firefighters are out there responding to the fire. But a lack of air support and of course then resources, you know crews are still having trouble containing the flames issued evacuation warnings. The west side of highway one south of the lima through the community of bolinas those are warnings not orders at this time. So we want people to be prepared if they do need to leave and we issue an order. Well fortunately, no homes have been destroyed and no residents or firefighters have been injured. And coming up next the wildfire coverage continues as fires continue to ravage numerous parts of the bay area will have the latest welcome back everyone back to our breaking news, the wildfires burning all across the bay area and theyre having a huge impact on the air quality this year earlier this morning we spoke with christina choose with the bay area air Quality Management district. Good morning. Im we are looking for relatively improved conditions and im definitely around and then a clare county San Francisco along the peninsula. We are looking at whom that were from fires in marin and Sonoma County big like this to the east bay, so we do recognize there are still pockets around the bay area that will still be experiencing unhealthy air today and tomorrow. And we know that theres a spare the air alert thats in place possibly until sunday when people hear spare the air alert, sometimes they really dont understand the air quality or whats going on talk about the behavior and what you expect people to do and know when the air quality is like this. Sure air when we issue a fair the air alert mean its unhealthy for sensitive groups typically those with a preexisting Health Condition has emphysema, gop things like and we do recommend that you stay indoors, especially when were experiencing a lot of wildfire smoke. That inside with their windows and doors having your air conditioning on circulate it awful and again just looking for ways to keep yourself in indoors. It the best solution that we we have. Christina so many people around the bay area of gotten used to Wearing Masks over the past several months now. We understand that the mask that they wear for covid19 dont necessarily help them with the fire and the smoke that were dealing with now. Yes that very tough distinction right now getting everybody is under a mandatory mask order or covid19 however please do not before that im going outside and exercising and using those clocks back during a wildfire going to protect you. If you have to use the we do recommend n 95 or higher, but again we recommend above all else to stay inside. Northern windows closed. All right, christine, its great news to understand things are going to get better today. Do you see this continuing through the weekend. We really hope so with temperatures coming down an onshore breeze we do help i do hope that that will help with fire containment which will definitely help to alleviate the oklahoma entirety all right kristina chew with the bay area air Quality Management district. Thanks for spending some time with us this morning. Thank you everybody stay safe. Yes, definitely, thanks christina. And we want to go ahead and get a check of the weather forecasters days far with some more on heat wave that were dealing with my day hey good morning marty good morning, everybody and live shot coming in from timber on and some of that smoking can see up there in the sky there were still dealing with meaning from this Vantage Point a golden gate off towards the distance. Temperatures have been kind of slow rising we like in the 60s and 70s mixture for the east bay up to the north bay 50 still hanging on in 60s 64 going on for san jose and also on the peninsula to soar already improving a little bit futurecast wind gusts show that onshore wind in place and lingers for overnight hours a little bit here so that helps bring in that marine layer increase the fog and such but moisture levels we want to increase looking upstream. This is a hurricane down around couple san lucas ok tropical moisture coming north. Thats what worried about its not the same streaming event that we had last sunday, this is just a little piece of energy which will then trip to the north rain is great. We love to get that we might get some dry lightning with this were not exactly totally sure but this putting in a motion there it is down to the south. And you can see it bubbling up after hour. Relatively uneventful weekend. Even the Central Coast may get some rain out of this as well so something that bears watching as we get into early next week and that will how happened on monday focusing on the 4 zone forecast now 73 for San Francisco or high 69 daly city look at the 60s have returned to the coast. Meanwhile on the bay side were into the 70s 75 mowbray 77 burlingame with 80s down south and 90s have been retired for now 82 san carlos, 81 coming in from Mountain View and in the santa clara valley, mid to upper 80s. Sure 90 los gatos in morgan hill 96 east bay shoreline to the south is in the mid 80 ish a decade better over the east bay hill so tri valley 94 Pleasanton Livermore 90 to 94 walnut creek 96 going on for concord and 77 for berkeley, 84 richmond and up to the north bay here Solano County stands out what the upper 90s for the most part the late, although it 8788 benicia 88 also for napa and 94 santa rosa, where as we head down south you have upper 80s and some lower 90s still as we get into the weekend theres little bit of a pop that happens on saturday and then into next week well be watching to see if we get some more activity on monday be nice to get that rain not so good for the lightning rod. Tell your rain sounds so nice right now, thank you dave. Well, 3 wildfires are burning and Monterey County forcing thousands of people to evacuate the river fire is burning south of salinas it has grown to more than 10,000 acres and its only 7 contained. 4 firefighters have suffered heat related injuries while battling the flames. Cal fire says that this place was sparked over the weekend by Lightning Strikes.
