Talked to one of the residents in the area this morning who i was asking him when i got here to the know exactly where the statue was because its no longer here and he was shocked because he was like wow i run by here every morning and its no longer here which is really strange to not see it so last week and the leaks weeding up the weeks leading up to this day. Well people in the area and protesters were calling for the removal or loot removal. Of the sir Francis Drake sculpture that was because of the according to them, sir Francis Drakes controversial past and saying that he had ties to slavery. Now hundreds of people last week take to the streets and demonstration asking not only for the removal of a sculpture out here but also they wanted removal from street signs as well as park locations. They even like you mentioned aria got that petition online and thousands of signatures. Well there so again residents waking up this morning to the removal of that sculpture again were going to be on scene talking to more residents kind of getting more reaction as the day goes on but for now reporting on him or in county Reyna Harvey Kron 4 news, thanks a lot lorraine a. The covid19 pandemic has brought economic devastation for Many American companies and especially workers but for the biggest names in tech business has been booming and on wednesday, the ceos of amazon apple facebook and googles Parent Company will face questions from congress on whether theyre too dominant stifling the competition and harming consumers. Its a question a house judiciary subcommittee was probing prepandemic democrat david selenium rhode island, the antitrust panels chair has overseen an investigation for more than a year tax congress, not the courts agencies or private companies and acted the antitrust laws. And Congress Must be responsible for determining whether theyre equipped for the competition problems of our modern economy, while overall questions around the companies are the same complaints about each of the businesses are unique. Among them amazons dominance of ecommerce the dominance of apples app store facebooks purchases of social platforms like instagram whats app and others and googles overwhelming share of internet searches all 4 executives will testify remotely which may dial down some drama. Now the republicans have their own bill negotiation toward a bipartisan stimulus package is under way republicans put forward a trillion dollar proposal for kids jobs. And health care senator Mitch Mcconnell says the gop plan provides Liability Protection for businesses more than a 100 billion dollars for schools and more testing money every single thing we put forward as a way to get more relief and the peoples but democrats say the gop plan falls short compared to their own 3 trillion dollar plan republicans seem to say that people dont want to work they want to take on employment stay home and that that isnt sold the Democrat Eric swalwell says republicans proposal to reduce the extra Unemployment Benefits from 600 to 200 a week will slow the recovery. We want to keep a steady flow. About Unemployment Benefits by white house economic adviser larry kudlow says 200 is a more appropriate amount that didnt keep workers back from returning to the workforce 68 of recipients benefits that were about their wage. The republican plan doesnt include money for hazard pay for frontline workers or money for state and local governments which makes up a full trillion. When its made with love, its made to be shared. And we are back waiting for the opening bell to ring on wall street futures trading has been a bit. These Big Tech Companies will see what comes out of that. Well see what comes on a day at the end of the day were in this fog lets going to be like rebecca, yeah we definitely well daryn for the most part around the bay area except for some of our stubborn coastal areas right like normal, we will still see that a fog and the low lying clouds a stick around through like Half Moon Bay parts of San Francisco. But everywhere else lots of sunshine and some mild to warm temperatures across the coast in bay and some hot ones inland tomorrow, were going to see a much of the same as what were seeing today and then by this weekend though were really going to get a jump up and temperatures, especially are in the valley locations were going to see anywhere from low to even mid 90s on the board possible. So ill have all the details coming up in my full weather check in just a bit back to the news. Thanks a lot happening now a fire in San Francisco, south of market neighborhood, a damaged half a dozen buildings and displaced 3 people kron fours will tran is near the scene with the latest well. Under a its still giving firefighters all kinds of problems said broke out exactly 24 hours ago, this is on 14th in south bend, nasa and look at this the engine. Still fully of the ladder i should say still fully extended they have at least 2 fire trucks at the scene and they have been pouring water down to the building and its decimated of course, but they need to put out the hot spots because they still dont know what caused this fire and thats why until the hot spots are out then and only then will they be allowed or investigators to go inside to find out. Why this a whole section is city block went up in flames, heres video a bit yesterday it broke out where raced across the city as far as the smoke, it could be seen for miles in fact they had to close part of the central freeway which is right next to this location send firefighters up to the central freeway. So they can shoot water down from that location there was here they had a one point about 5 ladders fully extended point thousands of gallons of water down to the building in the end part of the building was damaged destroyed 6 businesses 6 buildings altogether many businesses including one thats been here for 73 years fortunately, nobody died, but we do know that one firefighter was injured when something fell on his head while he was fighting the fire. That firefighter was rushed to the hospital. But treated and released. They did wipe out power to this neighborhood pg e came out here they took out power to make sure that the firefighters were safe as they continue fighting the fire but it also has some downed power lines that they had to deal with fortunately this morning james and darya power has been restored to this neighborhood as far as when theyll be able to look into what causes fire. Its all up to the hot spots and as you can clearly see theyre still dealing with it. We dont know exactly how much more they have to go, but the good news is i was here yesterday in about 4 hours into the fire. They were able to stop the spread of the fire and you can clearly see the damage on one side on the right side of your screen. Those businesses are thankful that the fire did not jump 14th street hop on to their particular building and caused their building to go up in flames. James darya all right, thanks a lot. Well and that fire in the area, the city has businesses and homeowners worried kron fours of a morning. Kelly has reaction from them. Heres video that shows the flames shooting up alongside the central freeway people showing up to work nearby captured images of the huge wall of flames and the massive column. 6 black smoke. People who are just waking up had to scramble to get out in case the fire moved in their direction as quite scary. So we just decided to grab our personal belongings same bottom ones stab at great, so we did evacuate very quickly. One man was asleep inside his business along with his dog when the fire broke out. I looked to the sky building and theres a column of black smoke about 3 or 4 feet wide grab my dog run around and within 20 minutes, the entire block was in flames is building was flooded by the water used to put out the flames, its devastating for the business course along with everybody in covid in business down many for a lot of businesses this is you know to something that. You know what you know for being locked down for so long you know Something Like this is just another you know you just got to take it in stride. You can see the remains of heart failed sales of Building Materials company that had stood in this spot for decades literally side because the building was such an icon for this neighborhood was just said. A solid, you so yeah, its just its crazy. The fire also damaged the sheriffs departments Field Operations building. Deputies had to move weapons and ammunition stored there that Green Building you see behind me is rainbow grocery. They were not damaged by the fire, but they did evacuate their staff early this morning. And our remaining closed until wednesday morning because they feel like all the firefighting activity and the heavy smoke in the air makes it unsafe for their workers and customers Maureen Kelly kron 4 news. To National Headlines now we have attorney general bill barr testified before the House Judiciary Committee. He was grilled to say the least by east bay congressman Eric Swalwell take a listen. To make bill barr standing his ground the president has not attempted to interfere in these decisions in the longawaited showdown between the attorney general and House Democrats years old and from that he is not using his position to do the president s bidding on the contrary he has told me from the start he expects me to exercise my independent judgment to make whatever call i think is right and that is precisely what ive done ive democrats laid into him shame on you mister barak accusing him of politicizing protests around the country by sending in federal agents in appropriately stepping in to investigate the origins of the russia probe and protecting the president s allies like Michael Flynn and roger stone but barr pushed back. You say i helped the president s friends. Cases that are cited the stone case and the flynn case, both cases where i determined. That some intervention was necessary to rectify the rule of law to make sure people are treated the same i agree the president s friends dont deserve special breaks but they also dont deserve to be treated more harshly than other people. Were also repeatedly defended the presence of federal officers in Portland Oregon were trying to protect. Federal functions and federal buildings if the state would come in and keep peace on the streets in front of the courthouse, we wouldnt need additional people at the courthouse, but the Committee Chair brushed off bars explanations, the president wants footage his campaign is. And you appear to be serving up to him. Has ordered referencing the killing of george floyd congresswoman Sheila Jackson lee confronted bar about Police Brutality and she said the d o j has failed to adequately pursue federal cases against officers accused of Police Brutality questioning on agree that there are systemic racism and Police Departments thats what we need you to join us on mister attorney general and to recognize that institutional racism does exist and until we accept that we will not finish our job. And reach the goals and aspirations about lake iconic john boehner and republicans went on the attack accusing democrats of targeting the attorney general because he has ordered a probe into the origins of the russia investigation and because of the agees previous assertion, the Trump Campaign was spied on. Spying on a Political Campaign is a big deal it sure is. And since that day. Since that day. When you had the courage estate, the truth they attack you theyve been attacking you every sense. Well Jessica Schneider reporting this was barrs first appearance before the House Judiciary Committee as president trumps attorney general. He has declined to testify on other topics in the past.
