Inland areas talking more about what to expect this monday. Still ahead your forecast back to you james all right, thank you john 7 oclock we do want to begin with the latest on the coronavirus and the numbers show that at least 33 states now are seeing cases rise on a week to week basis and heres a look. At the current map which shows us the number of cases compared to last week youll notice 8 states are highlighted in dark red. Those are places where weve seen a 50 increase in cases from one week to the next california is included in that group. Meanwhile 25 states are indicated in orange, those are places where were seeing a 10 to 50 increase in coronavirus numbers. Right now we have more than 3. 3 million infections with more than a 135,000 deaths reported across the country the worst by the way is in florida now surpassing a new york as the nations hot spot with the most career i co coronavirus cases. Anywhere in the bay area. We have more counties going on the states watch list as our numbers are going up too. And so there are new restrictions in Sonoma County because of that starting today. They have changed their tune Indoor Dining and other places like bars movie theres you cant do any of that for 3 weeks at least Outdoor Dining and take out that still allowed. Alameda county has also been put on a watch list because their numbers are going up too. But theyre not changing any orders because currently theyre not allowed to have Indoor Dining yet. Our movie theaters and the like Officials Say the increase is mostly because not enough people are wearing. Masks. There is one very county that is starting to reopen more businesses in fact today we have gyms hair salons in hotels allowed to reopen in Santa Clara County kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live in Mountain View with a look at sarah. Hi there. Yeah, im live here at a strip mall where we see the little gym, its actually a gym for children they have summer camps which is also allowed to start up again starting today also a virtual cluster people not quite comfortable. Business here in the strip mall is this nail salon called nail bar and we have more video of that where you can see these businesses that are ready to go they have a green check mark in the window and says covid prepared that means that they have submitted an application with the county of santa clara saying that they have a you know theyve gone through their entire business, a bottom to top and made sure that their employees are ready made sure that theyre following social distancing protocols and inside its really cool to see you can see that theres these plastic partitions at each nail station. And the only place that you can put your hands through his where you put your hand sir where they can do your nails but your face is completely going to be covered by that plus a partition and both parties will be wearing a mask, the people working there will be wearing gloves as well so you it looks relatively safe in there. So the may make people feel more willing to go to a business like this especially now that the county is checking on these types of businesses that are able to reopen and that includes again gyms hair salons nail salons tattoo shops Hotels Motels outdoor pool summer camps and outdoor gatherings are also allowed with up to 60 people all Wearing Masks indoor gatherings are banned of course, you know Health Officials discourage any gatherings at all but. They do say if youre going to gather outside make sure youre distancing youre wearing your mask, each Business Reopening has to submit those applications again to make sure that they have the social distance protocol. So this morning were going to be checking in with a lot of different businesses, including Hotels Motels well have to see how theyre doing i know its been different in every single county and theyve had to work with the county some that some counties saying were not open hotels that were going to has been very wishywashy but Santa Clara County saying were going to open hotels and motels well have to see how thats going this morning so make sure to join us in about an hour from now to see what we learn for now im live in Mountain ViewSarah Stinson kron 4 news, thanks. A lot sarah. Well also in the south bay, we have 3 coronavirus testing sites opening this week. You can see the locations we have a graphic here. There are 2 testing sites in san jose one at Independence High School the other at Santa Clara Service center auditorium. Theres also a site in gilroy as well at the south county annex its a walk of sites you dont need appointments. And its also freeze so get tested now if you want a new health order now in effect in Contra Costa County and it bans people from gathering indoors for religious services or dining outdoor gathering so are still allowed you can also still hold protests as well but you have to wear masks and follow social distancing rules. Officials say more than 8 of its coronavirus tests are now coming back positive over the last 7 days which means they say the virus is now spreading rapidly through Contra Costa County. Heres a look at the numbers closer to home across california. We have more than 324,000 infections with more than 7,000 deaths. And if you do look at just the bay area alone. We have 32,000 cases and growing with now 636 deaths reported in National Headlines a secretary of education is echoing President Trumps push to reopen schools. Even though the pandemic seems to be getting worse. The white house recently pushed for the cdc to revise its recent reopening of guidelines for schools, but the director said theyre not going to do that education secretary betsy devos however is reminding everyone that the guidelines. The flexible and she says theres nothing to indicate that children are in danger. The cdc guidelines are just that meant to be flexible and meant to applied as appropriate for the situation. There is no nothing in the data that would suggest that kids being back in school is dangerous to about kids need to be in school they need to be learning they need to be moving ahead, and we cant we cannot be paralyzed and not allow that or not it be intent on that happening sees as she was careful to stay technically correct by saying that theres nothing to indicate that its a danger to the children. Of course the other medical experts are upset because it could be a danger to the parents and the teachers because the kids could be spreading covid without knowing it. And House Speaker nancy pelosi says the same she says de vos should have said that she thinks in fact that the president and the administration are endangering the health of children. I think what we heard from the secretary was malfeasance. And and and dereliction of duty. This is appalling the message. The messing. The president and business traicion are messing but the health of our children. It is we all want our children to go back to School Teachers do parents do and children do. But they must go back safely. And when you hear what the administration is saying we know that they have no appreciation for the failure. That has brought us to this point. Last week the president attacked the cdc saying the School Reopening guidelines were too tough too expensive and impractical. In the south bay teachers in san jose are pushing back on plans from the district to have students come back to class as early as august 12th, and now the School District is beginning to rethink those back to school plans prefers taylor sackey has the latest. This is clearly not what anybody wants right Teachers Want to be in the classroom. They want to be face to face with their kids are a lot of teachers work extraordinarily conflicted about this because they understand the tremendous burden that this places on on kids and their families. But but we dont need the school safe before we can you really before we can be open to public School Teachers in san jose are responding to plans from the san jose unified School District. To reopen School Classrooms august 12th only the message from them was they were they were scared of they are returning to full class sizes, you know full days with with relatively prevention measures left them most alleging side of a they begin to consider a individual actions not come back. Were beginning for retirement, leaving the profession and that using their 60 days and president of the San Jose Teachers AssociationPatrick Bernhardt represents 1500 teachers. Roughly half of the School District staffers served 30,000 students in 41 different schools from k through 12. He says most teachers are on willing to return given that cases are rising and theres a lack of testing to detect asymptomatic carriers. Teachers like jodi to are disappointed by the districts plans i was already going to say thats not safe for and its not safe for my child i wasnt planning on sending her back. If this gets ugly and we get really pressed to then you know im going to im staying with my union because my union stance with me on friday bernard sent a letter to the superintendent reflecting their concerns. After learning that most of its teachers are unwilling to return to in person teaching at this time the School District wants to serve a on his website for staff and parents to gauge their willingness on classroom reopenings the survey is open through tuesday, july 14th and Taylor Bisacky reporting kron 4 news. Now skies will clear up pretty quickly late morning and then we have a lot of sunshine to look forward to still going to be warm but not as warm as we were this weekend, the ridge of High Pressure thats been bringing us such hot weather is retreating further to the east. So you still have record breaking temperatures for great basin southwestern deserts all the way into the southern part of california. But the heat backs off of the bay area so were going to take a break from at least the 90s for most spots in the bay area today swifties and 60s for your highs in San Francisco and elsewhere along the coastline. Well 70s in millbrae and burlingame 80s further south once you get towards Mountain View and down into the south bay.
