Theres definitely been some cloud cover at times you saw that at the Golden Gate Bridge just a second ago as of timber on right now look at this theres the clouds in the distance, but youve got sunshine overhead definitely not a foggy start for you a little bit of fog right along the coastline, but it hasnt been causing too many visibility issues so smooth sailing as you do what you need to do this wednesday morning. 50s and 60s for your current temperatures, dublin hayward san jose pittsburgh. Each of 61. Concord year at 63 right now later today, a range of 60s at the coast 70s alongside the bay 80s in just a couple of 90s for inland areas, more still to come in your forecast is so were seen an increase a steady increase. And not only total number of positive cases, but total number of hospitalized patients in total number of patients in our icu news. So thats our big story today governor newsome set to tighten up. Some of the restrictions statewide maybe even rolling back reopenings well have to wait and see yeah its not good. The hospitalizations are on the rise last 24 hours kron 4 Sarah Stinson. Live in Santa Clara County with what that means sarah. Dr. James what horrible timing to have our hospitalized patients surging right on the brink of all Holiday Weekend. Im live here at Great America as we know its close and fireworks will not be happening here this weekend. Its in Santa Clara County a county thats on governor newsoms watch list to 72 of our state is on this list for possibly having to roll back some of restrictions are loosened and maybe having to have enforcement upon them take a look at your screen. This is why the governor is thinking about rolling back some of research tightening restrictions rather in california there are a total of 4,577 hospitalizations that has spiked 43 in the last 2 weeks the governor hinted he will be tightening up the rules after seeing a 6 increase in hospitalizations and 4 increase in icu patients with tin just a 24 hour period of time were just days away from the 4th of july a bad time to have these hospitalizations surging. Bad time for the coronavirus to be peaking at again a lot of the state was reopening in know thats going to have to come to a halt. The governor says the worst thing you can do to Start Community spread of the coronavirus this holiday is it to have an in or gathering he says its better to go outdoors if youre going to use your quote social bubble, its better to be outdoors and of course wearing your mask keeping distance, no. This is the weirdest 4th of july think weve ever expect experienced i talked to a man who lives in Santa Clara County. He says hes moving away from the state hes moving to idaho to be closer to his family but i asked him what are your friends doing what are people going to do this holiday take a listen. Most of my friends are are married with kids and that this kind of battened down the hatches and stand around houses and you know maybe doing on the old small barbecues or something but nothing like what theyve done in the past. Santa clara county leaders are also working with city leaders to tighten up restrictions but today at noon, the governor is expected to announce likely 4 more counties to be added to that watch list and then what will happen with that watch list. Well hes expected to announce a stepping up enforcement for guidelines like mask guidelines and then for the reopening restrictions you may actually even rolled back reopening in those counties that have already done so so its going to be a huge announcement and its going to be another step back but hopefully we can take that step back and stop these hospitalizations from surging any further of course check back in right here to the kron 4 morning news for updates on this. Im live in santa clara Sarah Stinson kron 4 news in sarah, you know those masks that your mom has been making for you. You know the eye you probably have one handy turns out those are really good. They did a study and if they have more than one ply and theyre very fitted like the ones youve been wearing those are good, you are Single Player like a bandanna or its loose thats not good your droplets travel all over the place. To say thank know my mom gave me those before weve been wearing them. Yeah, yeah, and now im even more grateful, theyre very thick, so its hard to wear them on air i yeah, but they are good for when youre out about thanks sarah very effective 8 05 lets take a look at the latest numbers here. Heres what the count looks like this morning. Locally for the bay area we have more than 24,000 cases now coronavirus with 578 deaths across the state more than 230,000 cases with more than 6,000 deaths in again were seeing a spike so these numbers are beginning to grow quicker and quicker well keep you updated as they change. In the east bay Contra Costa County is one of those places thats going to have to roll back and not reopen some businesses that they were going to open today bars gyms and hotels. Well have to stay closed a little longer covers reyna harvey is live in walnut creek with the change in this new order reyna. All right good morning daria and like this was supposed to be the days businesses were supposed to open their doors and customers were supposed to be able to go its been months for a lot of these businesses they were excited and when they found out disappointed also we have the holiday coming up a lot of them are anticipating that scene that influx in customers what theyre going to have to wait just a little while longer like you mentioned bars hotels jams a lot of people ready to get back into those here in Contra Costa County, but they wont be able to do that for right now also personal services along with Indoor Leisure activities, those have also been postponed as of right now. Now again the county stabbing bag and postponing this due to a rise in positive coronavirus test theyve been seen here. Originally they were seen about 38 new cases a day and now that numbers gone up to 87 cases a day in terms of positive coronavirus cases the hospitalization rates have also increased 75 now weve been talking to Business Owners and we heard from them on how they felt about business is now reopening now lets hear from some of the residents about their thoughts. A lot of for people fanning this is a man in this day and now postpone. But you know as a mental thing the county has to do to keep the county people safe. Right so you have some residents along with Business Owners who understand the plight of the county theyre trying to keep people safe and because of that i had to push back some days of reopening businesses but again what they have to do now daryn james they have to take a look at the cases that have been popping up and make another decision as to when theyre going to reopen right as we know that theyre close right now so if you are expected to come out with your family and hit the gym or maybe go to a bar for the for the july will be able to do that right now for now reporting here wanted creek right on harvey kron 4 news year, thanks a lot of rain already changed the appointment. Well i canceled it forget the hair coloring. San francisco there. And while the bay area california really not alone when it comes to re planning a rethinking the reopening policies in fact we have 19 states here illustrated in yellow you can see all of these areas along the west coast. The south. And along the eastern seaboard. These are just some of the places ahead of the 4th of july weekend that are kind of rethinking do we need to pull back on the reopening. Doctor Anthony Fauci had a chance to speak with lawmakers, hes the coronavirus taskforce led and had a dire prediction about the virus in the months to come. Were now having 40 plus 1000 new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to a 100,000 a day. If this does not turn around. Well as of this morning, the u. S. Has more than 2. 6 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and thats according to Johns Hopkins university whos been tracking it. On a daily basis. Well 3 states are now required people coming from california to quarantine for 14 days, you see them on the screen. They include new york, new jersey and connecticut. If all issued these travel advisories after we saw a spike in coronavirus cases here in the golden state. The restrictions include travel by train car boss plane all of them, however, the advisory does not apply to things like stopping over for a quick rest stop you can do that and keep going or if youre suffering from a layover at the airport. You dont have to quarantine for 14 days the airport if you are going to be happy to fly today you may want to choose either southwest or delta because they are the big carriers that are still. Got to keep that middle seat empty united is joining an american and united joining together with spirit. They are the carriers that are saying that if the fight is full pac man will tran is live at sfo with the details will thats not really safe is it. The pens on who you talk to i think people are starting to bend towards the trend that they know its going to happen so most lean into it American Airlines starting today that they will try to. Fill their flights up to capacity and that obviously means filling the centre see that the center seat pretty much open. Because they want to passengers to feel safe. But lets be honest about it because they didnt have the passengers to fill up a flight but now the passengers are slowly coming back. And there are fewer flights taking off because more airplanes are sitting on the tarmac so of course with fewer planes to fill them up a little bit faster American Airlines the Worlds Largest airline theyre starting to do that as far as united airlines. I should say they started doing that a little while ago they did give. People the option. The flights are 70 full or more passengers have the right. According to them to rebook on another flight not as full, but a lot of passengers say its very difficult easier said than done, especially with fewer flights taking off these days that it has to talk to a businessman traveling this is calling card. Heres his reaction about the center seat. Ive been traveling for 12 years i dont feel comfortable sitting in a middle seat as it is just you know because of the long flights no especially not with texas florida pennsylvania the state shouldnt back down again and then theyre just now listen restrictions were seen spikes so no i dont. I dont think they should do it. The center seat nobody likes it and before the pandemic area now people hate it for like people like him they just feel uncomfortable. But i can tell you that Southwest Airlines and Delta Jetblue if youre applauding. You can apply for now, but even they say its not a golden rule or policy that theyre going to monitor the situation because jetblue said that they will Promise Center seat open at least through july but anything after that is anyones guess Southwest Airlines. They say theyll do that until this fall in the meantime southwest said theyll theres a deep cleaning will bring in ventilators and air filters to try to clean up the particle. Last sunday america traveled more than it ever get by played since the pandemic started. A lot of people are leaving into this trend about i guess it is what it is like to be out. But youve been inside the airport the airport still pretty quiet right. Plenty of distance in there. I had to. Plenty of distance but when youre flying in this 2 across the sky bright 6 hours air tran is being grounded at the start of but i think you well. And like as a the weathers fault today over to suppose that fog and you know not too bad over sfo, i think it would be one of those lesser on the delays candidates. Temperatures in the 60s 70s, 80s just a few 90s the 15 right now and yeah, it looks like its shaping up to be a pretty nice day. Yeah, the shot that hit a peak to a little not yeah actually does look pretty good out there, theres definitely a little cloud cover thats still blocking out making a bit gray for some areas. But you can see some sunshine making its way down to alcatraz in youre going to get more and more that through the day today. So just a touch of cloud cover out along the coast, especially thats the way the next few days are going to be ahead of us hot inland temperatures do still remain not as hot as we have been, but still warm tomorrow were taking a break from that is this ridge of High Pressure begins to weaken across the bay. Now tomorrow, were also going to see pretty similar start to the morning as what weve had this morning just a touch of cloud cover right along the coastline and into the bay itself. Well also see that into friday morning overall sunshine prevails and temperatures tomorrow and friday. Were going to be some of the coolest in your forecast ahead so really pleasant next few days are ahead of us. Today certainly not bad with 50s and 60s for your highs in San Francisco. And right along the coastline right alongside the shore of the bay as youd expect some of our most comfortable weather, san carlos at 78 redwood city at 77, well be in the 80s in the south bay today with mid 80s for san jose and campbell 84 degrees each. Todays temperatures in the east bay also comfortable in the mid 80s for the inland valleys such as the tri valley on up through walnut creek. Concord one of our few spots that will be in the low 90s like can Vacaville Napa sonoma youngsville holding on to 80s today as you also see in sandra fell up to santa rosa. As i mentioned tomorrow cooler than today with our warmest temperatures only in the low 80s, how nice is that for this time of year friday will be just a touch warmer with saturday and sunday back in the 90s for july 4th weekend. James. All right. Thank you very much john. Heres a quick check of the bay bridge this morning as we just see what kind of conditions are out there and look a big improvement here at 8. 18 the bay bridge has now. Fully reopen so were looking pretty good with no traffic really in your way as you make your way from oakland into San Francisco and from here lets jump over to the san mateo bridge again actually this looking better to the volume certainly beginning to drop off as were seeing a lot of gaps there between the cars so at this point the law is clear for the chp and no matter your head and you should be making it theyre in good time. In the buzz baseball is back Major League Players report to their ballparks today to train for god knows what considering the pandemic will have to wait and see not personnel of course, the closest you can get to a game is a cut out of yourself the giants of the as are selling them for close to a 100 bucks as a way to make a few dollars and to make things a little more interesting for the fans in fact in oakland, if you pay even a little more for seen along the foul line and a ball hits your face then the as leslie send you. The ball. Dodgers fans can get a little closer only because la has been giving free covid test at the Dodger Stadium parking lot. This picture perfectly portrays the predicament of play sports in the middle of a pandemic a with the coronavirus closing in and swirling around but covid be damned in texas despite a huge spike the governor so far has not changed his order. Thats sports teams can fill the stadiums to 50 capacity that would mean about 20,000 people at globe life field imagine that. While the rangers already have a rash of ballpark staff who have covid the nba remains on daunted even though more than 5 of their players tested positive and coronavirus is surging in florida where the playoffs are set to start the nba. Commish says that if the bubble work still be genius if it fails everybody loses. I mean certainly you it. Cases are isolated thats one thing i think a lot of determination will be our understanding how our community became infected. Got better we part of our judgment in terms of whether we should continue. But certainly if we had a lot of cases were going to stop bush earlier, you cannot run from this virus. Its its im absolutely convinced it will be safer on this campus in Office Campus because there are many other situations on where where theres mass testing of asymptomatic employees and so in some ways this is maybe a model for other into how other industries cannell ultimately open by you know i always say you know we will be responsible and well watch whats happening. But i think the biggest indicator will be if we begin to see spread within our community. The nbas message is also evolving the black lives matter message will be painted on the courts for the playoffs and the working on other ways they can bring attention to racial injustice. And there was this touching display over the weekend. When the Chicago Red Stars soccer team took a knee during the anthem. And casey short cried on the shoulder. Of captain julie ertz the 2 say they got emotional because they have grown so close having these difficult and important conversations about race. And thats the bus.
