Because theres an increase in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations throughout the county and its gotten so bad that the numbers are showing that almena county has most ksat of any county in the bay area and that has caused major concern for Public Health officials theyve been deciding what to do in terms of reopening or not county Public HealthOfficials Say the number of cases has risen in the last week from 63 to 71 per 100,000 people before this though they were seeing a decline in numbers so officials thought it was time to move forward with the states case for reopening by applying for variance attestation putting the county officially in stage 2 thats where a lot of counties are in our state. But now the Health Department and other officials dont believe its safe to do so since every day the numbers are now going up at last check theres been 5700 cases of coronavirus here in Alameda County was 133 deaths now we heard earlier from the Alameda CountyHealth Director whos described that the surges may be coming from Nursing Homes and that thats been a big problem throughout the population of this county but ive talked to a lot of people here on the street here in alameda you know ive been all over the bay area in the last couple people becoming very anxious, upset and wanting to reopen but here in Alameda County i will say people understanding people wanting to put health first, especially looking at how the rest of the country has been doing. I think that were actually going a little too fast. I mean if you look at southern california. Its going up. Much faster and just around the country like all European Countries seem to be going fair fairly really not like completely down to a perfect call but so much faster than we are and its pretty clear thats just because were just too eager to open again that were not actually taking the proper precautions yet and. I understand to a lot of people that this is a very scary time to time and joblessness is a time of uncertainty. And look at this video that they shot just about an hour ago you can see pretty much every Single Person here on the streets of alameda have a mask on im telling you its probably the best ive seen in all the bay area of all the counties have been to really just about everybody has a mask on i have my mask here in my in case they need to put it on case to get to close to people because otherwise too hard to hear me, but its really impressive what theyre doing here clearly Alameda County is taking precautions because theyve already seen whats happened in other counties and then you want to get to that point they dont have to open and not open so this is what theyre doing to try and keep the county safe. They said this week will be critical to see the trends of the coronavirus cases plus we are heading into a holiday weekend. So well have to see call me to county fairs when theyll be able to reopen for now live in alameda Sarah Stinson kron 4 news. Thank you sarah. It is good to see so many people in alameda wearing those masks, lets go now to the south bay where were getting a glimpse of the adjustments officials in Santa Clara County are planning. As they get ready to release more detail guidelines about reopening there kron fours will tran live in Santa Clara County this morning. He has all the details for us will. Marty is a game of adjustments they knew that coronavirus cases would go up once they start to reopening the businesses on may 4th, but even they admit they were caught off guard by the amount of cases theyve recently seen and thats where the governor back on sunday. He recommended that the bars in Santa Clara County, not reopened yesterday the board of supervisors and county Health Officials they met. They plan to release more details over the next several days and what they plan to do moving forward for the long haul so take a look at your screen. One of the goals that they want to do is uniformity to have guidelines for all businesses when they reopen back on may 4th he was pretty much sector to sector with the first sector opening being the industrial sector construction and not coincidentally. Its that particular segment that has seen the most coronavirus cases also when they reopen curbside back on may 22nd as far as retail thats also picked up a little bit as well. What they want to do is place restrictions on high risk activities that go into detail about that and then another thing is some of the highrisk businesses might not reopen at all possibly the bars may be the hair salons as well some of the more intimate businesses that they consider a hot spot. The reason being Santa Clara County they actually is far far as bay area counties they were the fastest to take off from the gate in terms of covid19 cases it slow down a little bit with Alameda County being the most explosive in the number of cases in the bay area. But nonetheless theyre still trying to deal with it right now in Santa Clara County they have 4200 positive cases of coronavirus 156 people have died. Just last tuesday mardi 138 people had to be tested for coronavirus as far as the cases are concerned so its going up and up and up and theyre concerned about that which is why theyre trying to get a better handle. Michael covid19 cases and have a longterm game plan. When you ask me long term what is that while they dont have a detailed description of that its obviously in a game of adjustment but something a little bit further along then month to month that weve seen so far in Santa Clara County just like my colleague Sarah Stinson was reporting. A lot of reconsidering a lot of reopening and a lot of cases maybe not reopening at all. Back to merge all right well, thanks a lot for that report from the south bay. Governor newsom is sending a stern warning of possibly implementing new restrictions because of the increase of those new covid19 cases here in california 19 counties across the state are on a watch list for a spread of the virus. Orange salon owner said in glenn counties were all added to that list on monday. Coronavirus cases increase in california by 45 over the past week with a positive rate that continues to creep upward. Now at 5. 9 . And the state continues to see increases in icu patients and hospitalizations. Forthright with you we are considering a number of other. Things and to advance and we will be making those as conditions change and we will be in constant. Contact with our county partners to understand how this might impact what theyre seeing and experiencing in their communities and how this plays out in their data. Well Governor Newsom also says that enforcement of state coronavirus guidelines and rules will be stepped up and the governor also signed the state budget on monday afternoon its going to distribute 2 and a half billion dollars to counties based on how well they cooperate with the states response to covid19. Now we move to the east bay were Contra Costa County gyms and bars will have to keep their doors closed a bit longer. Thats because the county Health Department says the average number of coronavirus patients in hospitals has increased 75 in Contra Costa County in the past 2 weeks. Last month a song about a 2 to increase of tests coming back positive. Well now that number is at 6 . Surge doesnt happen slowly. It happens quickly and so were really looking at trends as a way to try to predict whats coming and then put in place what needs to happen to keep that from happening to us. So the county is delaying businesses that were previously given the go ahead to reopen tomorrow on july 1st and those include bars personal services, gyms and Fitness Centers also limited Indoor LeisureActivities Hotels for tourism and individual travel. Happening tomorrow state senators will be looking into a covid19 outbreak at san quentin state prison. After cases skyrocketed to over 1000 inmates there kron fours dan kerman has more. The outbreak of covid19 at san quentin prison is getting worse right now over a 1000 inmates are positive and almost all of those cases are new within the last 14 days that is our deep area of focus and concern right now all the governors committed the state to meeting its responsibility to care for the sick inmates. Its boring county and surrounding counties that will need to take care of those who really get sick. Were surges in cases of people who. Might need hospital care. And the current strategy is to have sent in to regional hospitals of course the you know we recognize the rights of everyone. So the highest level of im concerned that our original hospitals just want to have passage manage was coming currently half of the 14 patients hospitalized in marine county for covid19 have come from the prison. But Health Officials believe those numbers will go up exponentially. We anticipate to be the dad of up to 200 become ill enough to require hospitalization. We have formalized strategies and plans, including the prospect of using seton hospital on monday. The governor said plans are in the works to transfer some of the sickest inmates to seek Medical Center in daly city. The county Health Officials say the real solution is to create a Field Hospital at san quentin. Whats an inmate who may be in their cell is infected becomes you know low oxygen levels et cetera. A place where they can be moved within the facility where they can be monitored or hospital where theres theyre saying theres doctors their staff or they can do that the you know the vital signs sure etcetera to determine whether or not they need to be. Well its one of the standard of care be able to actually offer them the care on site because there will be dozens and dozens of individuals that category over the next few days said officials have confirmed that they are setting up tents like structures at san quentin though they didnt get into details as to what would be going on inside. As you know this outbreak is believed to have begun when an inmate with covid19 was transferred to san quentin state senators are investigating that and the hearing on wednesday. In the meantime in addition to the inmates who are covid positive. There are at least 90 employees at san quentin that are covid positive. And think what Dan Kerman Kron 4 news.
