Were going to start in San Francisco because there are some big malls that are opening sarah. Yeah big malls are opening a westfield shows town and but also local shops like the ones behind me here on fillmore street to reopen their doors allowing customers to go inside. Well, not every store it looks like its going to be ready to open some of them look like this with the windows okay you can see right through but a lot of them are still boarded up. You know some of them are boarded up from the beginning of march 17th when Health Officials said the stores were not deemed essential. But then some of them remained you know all boarded up because of the protests they want to keep their a stores safe so many interesting to see how many reopen here on fillmore street city is now moving into the next stage of phase 2 in reopening for stores have been doing Curbside Pickup but many decided to stick to just online sales. Some even had to create a website didnt have ones now they do. Health officials have set social distancing guidelines for shops Business Owners have been getting their stuff together getting sores spaced out keeping up with protocols to ensure customers can shop safely. Have a Maximum Capacity thats anywhere between 4, 6 people you know kind of based on our Square Footage and and the way people sick leave the store were going to require masks for were going to have hand sanitizers kind of everywhere were going to try to limit touching. Well as i said early also reopening is the indoor retail malls, the Bigger Stores and there will be open including westfield stones town hours will be produced so check on that before you head out to sea because they can be do needing to do some deep cleaning japan Center Though still going to be close any more time to work with the city to figure out how to keep their customers safe, but no matter what if youre going heading in the store make sure you bring that mask and a be prepared to see it look a lot different than it did before. Im live in San Francisco Sarah Stinson kron 4 news i thank sarah. Along the peninsula, San Mateo County is now allowing Outdoor Dining with kron fours gayle, ong with more on that from downtown san carlos. It looks awesome yeah so i can smell the food i want want to get out get some exercise weve been inside the last few days so. And i think the sign of backups thats the reaction about san mateo counties revise coronavirus shelter order even if going outside looks a little different the city of san carlos closed off a portion of laurel street, a motor traffic to allow restaurants and stores to use the adjacent parking spots to shop. And dying out. Some came out for a walk its just so nice it is good to see the restaurant opening up and how we are progress. With a 3 month period businesses along san carlos avenue have been relying on takeout and delivery for the last 3 months restaurants like tamara georgian cuisine is getting ready to expand their Outdoor Dining space thats what our plan is to put the tables there. Well put tm 6 feet apart of course, well have our guests enjoy outdoor city. This beautiful the Program Requires businesses and the public to follow Health Guidelines wear face coverings smaller groups. And social distancing doesnt feels it feels a little surreal. I mean its just like seeing everybody with mass time. And then ever since and all that the streets close a Code Enforcement officer will be conducting inspections to ensure compliance in san carlos gayle ong kron 4 news. Meantime the San Mateo Superior Court will Start Holding jury trials today but obviously theyre going to be some changes because of the covid19 and the health. S. More than 2 Million People infected and more than a 115,000 people have died. A big story this morning, a Fatal Police Shooting in atlanta is sparking outrage and protests and reignited the movement for Police Reform karin caifa has details. Protesters gathered again around the wendys restaurant where a shark brooks was killed by an Atlanta Police officer friday night there was absolutely no reason why again ease the pain when a man is trying to run. The Fulton County georgia district attorneys says a decision on charges against officer garrett role from shot the 27 yearold will likely come this week. If that shot was fired. For some the bin to say that officers life or the preview injury to huma others be in that shooting is not justified under the law. Rolf has been fired the citys police chief has stepped down and an investigation is underway a lawyer for brooks his family says it is not enough. We dont really think it can ever be justice because a mans life was taken. Children lost a father and a life lost. Atlanta demonstrations among those taking place across the country for a 20th straight day in los angeles and in new york demonstrators put a spotlight on the black Transgender Community black trans people are murdered at higher rates than any other community. We are pushed out of jobs out of housing city officials work with volunteers to allow the painting of black lives matter on brooklyn streets. Like the mural in the Nations Capital where protesters gathered again sunday outside the white house in washington, im karin well back here in the Bay Area Police unions in San Francisco and san jose have unveiled new reform measures. That they hope will help root out systemic racism among the force now kron 4 Sanaz Tahernia actually had a chance to speak with the president of the san jose Police Officers association about what changes theyre talking about. I think the started things and theyre definitely not going to be all the things that we need to do a across this country. One of the big things that were talking about is standardizing and national use of force policy as a reference of life and many other critical things are done. National database in regards to a gross misconduct of a Police Firing and to make sure that the officer it fired for christmas misconduct doesnt get hired again and wear the badge or the patch. Early warning systems. 4 Police Officers i think is important along with ongoing training which needs to be frequent and ongoing training and i know thats what the community has called for in one scene, i agree 100 and use of dashboard or websites like we have in san jose that the community can access all use of force. Weekly daily a time of night. How many occurred on just the start of things but thats thats the bulk of our today. You mentioned a standardized use of force i always thought that this standard is to be able to use deadly force when faced with deadly force is that i guess the same across the board. Yes, not its not it it there certain criteria is honestly that were sent across the nation on when and how officers can use force. But we are talking about developing standardization. A true out policy that im someone in texas i would do the same thing that you were supposed to be doing here in santa day. How would the officers that have been on the force for so many years have worked a certain way for so long. How would you be able to enforce or i guess implement the de escalation training kind of get them wire get will be wired differently versus you know on new oncoming Police Officers, its easier to train them that way because theyre just coming in. Whatever it is whether its see eye to training de escalation training. The Police Officers when it comes to them they need to be trained and they need to follow the i havent seen push back and mylan department here in san jose and cops always want more training. Always more training. There are policies throughout this nation where for example, and you have to qualify with a handgun once a year. Once a year. Thats ridiculous so im we as officers know, im we need more training and a lot of different areas and were open to it. If i do you in your opinion that reform is a better approach than simply different defunding. A Police Department. Yeah, i mean i think that theres areas that youre the Community Talk about right now in protest about insane communities of color, you know we have to help with education jobs or use. I would say i agree and if their cities out there that are putting nothing into it already making a mistake and should they do more, i would say yes. I did take money away from the police is only going to cause. The training to go down which is what the community wants. The calls for service to go up. And then the Police Officers cant respond in time to a high priority calls. Thats not what the community is asking for i dont think. All right. Well Sergeant Paul kelly with the san jose Police Officers association. We really appreciate you giving us your time today and good luck with all of this reform hopefully well be able to see things kind of moving on up and up and in an expeditious manner. I hope so thank you thank you. That interview first aired on kronon thats our 24 7 commercial free news streaming app weve got the full interview there as well as a bunch of other stuff too.
