Protests grew in atlanta last night over a Deadly Police shooting a new name being chanted rashard brooks fatally shot by police at a fast food drivethru in atlanta. Protesters shut down an entire interstate and set fires at and near the wendys restaurant were brooks was killed friday night. Earlier Police Used Tear Gas and flashbang try to clear the area. The Georgia Bureau of investigation says police were called around 10 30pm friday night about a man sleeping in a car in a wendys drivethru. Police say that man brooks failed a field sobriety test and then resisted arrest in video taken by a bystander you can see a struggle. According to the gbi the yellow object in the officers hand is a taser eventually brooks appears to swing at an officer before taking off with the taser wendy Surveillance Video released by the gbi kickoff for that video ends what you see is brooks running from the police at one point he appears to turn back towards the officer and discharged the taser before turning back around and continuing to run. Brooks was shot, taken to the hospital where he died the gbi said choose attorneys representing family spoke out last nights why not talk to him as a human being and say hey buddy made you have too much to drink. A developing story that were following for you from overnight, another fatal officer involved shooting leads to a fiery protests. This time in atlanta, youre looking at a wendys that was burned down saturday rush art brooks was killed in that parking lot friday night and now were learning the officer who shot him has been fired. It all happened when officers found brooks asleep in his car in the drivethru lane. Then they tried arresting him and that led to the confrontation. You see now officers wrestling with brooks he then grabs the officers taser and runs away the officers chased him. Brooks appears then to turn and fire the taser at the officers. Thats when one of the officers shoots and kills brooks as we mentioned that officer has since been fired the Atlanta Police chief has resigned and now were getting a look at police body body cam video of the incident and the moments that led to the confrontation. Go back to sleep okay all right. And he stepped out with from a kitty any weapons on your anything like that i dont have anything or is okay, but thats down to make sure. Now this again is body cam footage you can see the officers approached the car brooks is sleeping and waiting at the drivethru. They conduct a field sobriety test and when the officers figure out that hes had too much to drink and shouldnt be driving. Marty morning this recent move by unions follows protests of Police Killings of black men and women along with a cry for defunding of Police Departments across the bay area so again. The union told by presenting these this will help root out racism throughout the department so take a look at your screen. Heres a breakdown of what theyre proposing. They want to create a database of officers fired for misconduct. They also want to implement a national use of force standard. Along with creating an Early Warning system to identify needed training. They want to make sure officers undergo crisis intervention and deescalation training along with creating a use of force analysis website that then allow the public to monitor when and how forces use now those unions, including san fhancisco and san jose also is issuing a joint statement acknowledging that there are races Police Officers and that the unions committed to find and get rid of these officers now again these are all proposals and they still have to be approved. Hundreds of people blocked a major interstate a Fast Food Restaurant was set on fire and authorities responded with tear gas the community asking for justice in the death of rush. Our brooks Dianne Gallagher has more from atlanta. Protests grew in atlanta last night over a Deadly Police shooting a new name being chanted rashard brooks fatally shot by police at a fast food drivethru in atlanta. Protesters shut down an entire interstate and set fires at and near the wendys restaurant were brooks was killed friday night. Earlier Police Used Tear Gas and flashbang try to clear the area. The Georgia Bureau of investigation says police were called around 10 30pm friday night about a man sleeping in a car in a wendys drivethru. Police say that man brooks failed a field sobriety test and then resisted arrest in video taken by a bystander you can see a struggle. According to the gbi the yellow object in the officers hand is a taser eventually brooks appears to swing at an officer before taking off with the taser wendy Surveillance Video released by the gbi kickoff for that video ends. What you see is brooks running from the police at one point he appears to turn back towards the officer and discharged the taser before turning back around and continuing to run. Brooks was shot, taken to the hospital where he died the gbi said choose attorneys representing family spoke out last nights why not talk to him as a human being and say hey buddy made you have too much to drink. Leave your car here take over. Ive seen it happen before. But they didnt have instead they got physical. He ran. He did have to taser but according to law tasers not lead the wet. Its still quite a bit of that fog cloudiness thats kind of lingering around little bit thats just localized really aloft not much is happening. Its pretty much the traffic is going way above us as you can see from west to the east. However well have this High Pressure starts to build by the middle of the week and thats going to start to see those temperatures do some moving by the time we get to wednesday or so for right now the progress stands as the u. S. Mid 60s line of the east bay shoreline 64 up to santa rosa 66 for nevado 61 meanwhile for San Francisco. We have 68 for any aac 64 for san jose and were pretty close to where we were from the temperatures yesterday dont want to kind of stands out little bit as fairfield at 7 degrees ahead 3 degrees ahead for san jose. But with this fog keeping temperatures kind of corrected her overcast is what it looks like for now slowing our progress 77 is expected by 1 oclock by 4 at 80. We did talk about some 80s happening inland here. And well probably see quite a bit of that both in the north bay and the south bay for today 69 for San Francisco oakland at 7579 meanwhile for san jose across the greater bay we do see some of those mid 80s going on up there to the far east bay santa rosa had 8583 for napa 84 nevado and still somewhat cool on the east bay shoreline in mid 70s. Those numbers will start to move a little bit later on in the long range forecast models as we start to see some 80s at work there. Lets get back to our top story of the morning, the death of a black man at the hands of police have reignited protest in atlanta on saturday night the s and hundreds blocked a major interstate a Fast Food Restaurant was set on fire. And authorities responded with tear gas the community asking for justice in the death of ray shard brooks Dianne Gallagher has more from atlanta. Protests grew in atlanta last night over a Deadly Police shooting. A new name being chanted rashard brooks fatally shot by police at a fast food drivethru in atlanta. Protesters shut down an entire interstate and set fires at and near the wendys restaurant were brooks was killed friday night. Earlier Police Used Tear Gas and flashbang try to clear the area. The Georgia Bureau of investigation says police were called around 10 30pm friday night about a man sleeping in a car in a wendys drivethru. Police say that man brooks failed a field sobriety test and then resisted arrest in video taken by a bystander you can see a struggle. According to the gbi the yellow object in the officers hand is a taser eventually brooks appears to swing at an officer before taking off with the taser wendy Surveillance Video released by the gbi kickoff for that video ends. What you see is brooks running from the police at one point he appears to turn back towards the officer and discharged the taser before turning back around and continuing to run. Brooks was shot, taken to the hospital where he died the gbi said choose attorneys representing family spoke out last nights why not talk to him as a human being and say hey buddy made you have too much to drink. Leave your car here take over. I seen it happen before. But they didnt have instead they got physical. He ran. He did have the taser but according to law tasers not lead the wet.
