2 million confirmed cases now coronavirus in the u. S. And doctors are afraid that were going to see a spike in new infections over the next few months right now we have between 800 and a 1000 people dying every single day in america. And all of the models all the data suggest that things are going to get worse in have increases the virus hasnt gone away. Its not like were looking for for the second wave. The first wave isnt cop. The Harvard GlobalHealth Institute predicts a 100,000 more people are going to die in the u. S. By september. 12 states including california have seen coronavirus hospitalizations go up since memorial day and there has been at least a 10 increase in week to week reported cases in 19 states. Despite that outlook more very businesses are starting to open back up and that includes the dmv offices, their opening everybody all of them, but kron fours reyna harvey says theres a big catch and shes live in walnut creek reyna. Youre right about that big catch and the catch is you cant just show up, you have to have an appointment. Finally see a couple of people pulling up to this dmv out in walnut creek unlike the last time i covered a story like this. You had a number of people showing up they wanted to be seen. They were turned away so dont let that happen to you now a 9 dmv offices, opening up across the bay area and a couple of things that you can come in and have taken care of if you come to one of these offices, you can pay for registration for vehicle impounded because of registration related issues. You can also reinstate a suspended or revoked drivers license along with being able to process that real id because a lot of us and then going to be obese to try to get this done. I spoke to some residents out here won a creek and heres what they have to say about their local Office Opening again. Were so excited to get things back how the ecb nothing will ever be have for people to be able to have the services and be able to get things taking care of that they need to and were not happy that the wall that the dmv is opening back up. Now behind the wheel drive test are still not available and just like she mentioned getting things back up and running and how they used to be for right now they wont be helped youre usually used to them being when you come down to the dmv because you still have to come down here wear a mask and also you still have to social distance when youre out here. So again a couple of changes but the main point areas if youre coming out here today. You want to make sure you have an appointment because you dont waste your time driving down to the dmv just to be redirected back home but for now reporting that i want to creek harvey kron 4 news all right, thanks a lot rayna james one of the south bays largest parks is set to reopen this morning after being closed for the pandemic. There will be some changes of out of Alum Rock Parking with the kron fours will tran live there now to explain what you need to know good morning. Well. Good morning james good morning, san jose because this park is available to you a lot of people were turned away they didnt need anybody to tell them because the signs were loud and telling people hazardous conditions. Which of course included coronavirus Santa Clara County saw just an explosion of coronavirus cases more than any other county when it took off from the gate and thats why this and many other parks, were shut down almost immediately during shelter in place. But at 8 oclock this morning, somebody from the county will have to come down here pick up the signs and then take them away because theyre no longer needed. The park is available to you, although i got to tell you this person technically is breaking the law this time but i think their use in a hurry to get in there. Bottom line is this you can come into alum around rahm park. Im rock park. I should say come 8 oclock this morning and you can stay until 8 oclock at night so from sun to sun thats the beautiful part. You you cant use any water faucets because they dont want common areas using of course you dont put your lips right there anyway, right near the water. So you have to bring your own water bottled barbecue, the common areas, theyre not available at this time practice social distance its under new management right, its being run by coronavirus so things have changed, but the bottom line is it is available to you and you can come here and park. There are many homes in this area they can just walk here, but if you want to drive here the parking lots are available to you until 6 30 at night after that they will turn away, ive been hit near a couple of times over the i dont know the past 6 or 7 years it is a wonderful park to walk your dog to go hiking. And you can even ride horse if you want to right through here as well. James, i know your city slickers, so your horse entails a ford well i wish i owned a ford fastback a classic thank you very much well. If you want to go lubbock park maybe go all the way up to 70 this weekend, good news is theyre reopening as well park Officials Say its part of their plan to phase in limited capacity, so theyre not going to open it for everybody there looking for maybe 50 capacity. With regard to their average a visitor 8 1700 vehicles are going to cap it if thats what you need to do then is make reservations online dont just show up because the likely turn you away. You can show up to restaurants in San Francisco, a big story restaurants will be opening tomorrow with Outdoor Dining, yeah bars wont be allowed to reopen for at least another couple months. But there are some city leaders pushing a maybe speed that up with kron fours Taylor Bisacky to explain. What were hoping for. Is that the city understands that. There are hundreds of responsible for operators in the city. That are ready. And eager. To open their doors and safe and responsible way Anthony Healy london owns several bars in San Francisco, including breast tracks in a nina in his valley. Here at the nina london says its a perfect space for socially distancing the large outdoor patio waiting to be used we have the space and the ability. Were with all the expertise to operate safely and the restaurant next that we know work with throughout the year according to the citys current timeline. Mars without a kitchen cant reopen until mid august while restaurants can reopen for Outdoor Dining on friday and Indoor Dining the july judging by San Franciscos response to the pandemic. Supervisor matt haney says its time to readjust it there are indicators and what weve seen. Allow for many of the other counties that reopening right now. Are at where San Francisco is or even a little bit behind in terms of cases and hospitalizations he says hes now working with the Mayors Office. To move to a sooner reopen date for Indoor Dining and bar, reopens i do think theres a lot of support a lot of consensus and speaking to the Mayors Office in speaking to other supervisors. To move quicker. And what has been put in place right now as it relatis to bars as it relates to Indoor Dining, but we still need to get the state to give us that variance like a lot of other counties have been given. To move forward. He says the city would need permission from the state until then owners like healing london are planning to find food partners. The event that the city allows them to reopen for your service, we are in discussions several food vendors trying to figure out which one works and to all those guidelines as well thats it but us open. Already the city would allow bars to do this in its latest raft of whats called the shared Spaces Program and thats where the city allows restaurants to use its public spaces like sidewalks for outdoor seating for bars to participate in that there are a few conditions in to name a few. The bar would have to serve food and it would also have to have an approved permit naming the source of that food or that food partner and San FranciscoTaylor Bisacky kron 4 news. Starting this friday Sonoma County joins napa county opening tast 1045 and just in time for the weekend there is a relaxation of the wine tasting rules in Sonoma County. Yes wineries that dont serve food are allowed to reopen and even if they do serve food, so its pretty much open to everybody crawford sara stinson live in santa rosa to explain more ice era. They worry a little bit of relaxation in the guidelines for these wineries and breweries hopefully a little bit of relaxation in for you as you finally are able to go the house and do something that is fun and not quite essential as we head back to normal life. Im live here at fog Line Vineyards and it just like a lot of wineries in Sonoma County. Not really mentioning online anywhere if theyre going to be open right away this friday now that theyre allowed to open their tasting rooms so my biggest tip to you call ahead reach out to them if youre going either sonoma napa county to go to a winery definitely call ahead and make a reservation if you can now this that the choice to reopen the tasting room aligns with governor newsoms order tasting rooms are encouraged to offer food but it is no longer a requirement to serve food to reopen whereas last month wineries were able to reopen only they could provide sitdown outdoor meals with a food facility permit as well as Curbside Pickup in deliveries takes years will need to follow social distancing and Health Guidelines to reopen. Specifics not on the website for Sonoma County quite yet napa county reopened tasting rooms last friday and they wera books right away i i would definitely call weiner before heading up to wine country make that reservation because they cant fit a lot of people inside the tasting rooms anymore they need to have space for people to make sure its safe. Fortunately a lot of these wineries have beautiful outdoor spaces for you to sit and enjoy a tasting i do do recommend you to bring a mask because that way you will be allowed and you have to wear a mask when youre Walking Around to say the bathroom or when you enter the facility and then once you sit at your table youre enjoying tasting in your relaxing hopefully you can then take that mask off obviously you cant drink wine with a mask on so definitely bring the mass and have a good time call ahead that is the biggest tip well give you for now live in Sonoma CountySarah Stinson kron 4 news you can not drink or eat with a mask did you see picture of somebody who had cut out cut out a whole she cut out like nose and mouth well its hard to breathe and stuff so this is much defeats the purpose all right lets get over to the Weather Center john trouble looking at the forecast for today and for the weekend ahead little foggy right now. Yeah, definitely foggy out there to start guys but we are seeing improvements in areas like San Francisco, currently where once was foggy blocking out the Sales Force Tower now you can actually see all the skyline. Nice and clear over san jose definitely hasnt been any fog in the south bay this morning that foggy blanket very evident looking out from the Berkeley Hills right over the bay, where you are seeing the fog you cant miss it like in the Golden Gate Bridge and up into the marine highlands foggo become less and less scene for coastal areas today and theyre going to join the rest of us with some of those clear skies that youre seeing High Pressure in place for just one more day before this low pressure area drags in some cooler air behind it and youre really going to notice the difference in temperatures from today into tomorrow as that cooler air slips into the bay year unfortunately going to have a pickup in wind speed. And yet another brisk weekend with friday and saturday being especially windy days while the bay area remains dry look at what we have friday night up in the Sierra Nevada, some thunderstorms popping up in the foothills and some snow at the highest of elevations for those of you that maybe have planning on heading that direction to start the weekend. Otherwise bay area just cooler and windier to start the weekend as for today cooler at the coast with that cool ocean breeze pushing in you see that in the form of fog this morning, youll notice it more so as far as temperatures go later today, cooler than the 70s we had yesterday areas further away from the pacific hold on to temperatures that are still warm with 80s on the peninsula on the bay side and 80s in the south bay too. Temperatures in the east bay, mostly in the 80s as well just a few degrees above our seasonal averages. And yet another toasty day for areas like conquered at 90 degrees. 90s as well in Solano County and upper 80s to low 90s in napa and sonoma counties until you head to the cot at least where youve got some 60s mixed in. Tomorrow temperatures fall rapidly for inland areas down from the 80s to the 70s our warmest and will stay that way into our brisk saturday. Sunday we reverse or cooling trends. Temperatures begin to climb again and by early next week, its back to inland heat and cooler temperatures at the coast. James. Thank you john quick check of the traffic this morning, well take a quick look here is the Golden Gate Bridge camera and it shows weve got. As john mentioned foggy conditions here across the span. But traffic is moving nice and swiftly across the and into San Francisco. So its all right heading in from Murray County this morning the richmond sandra fell bridge, a plea foggy but you can see the backup here just ahead of the toll plaza stretches just out of view there in the background but youre still making a normal time, its not anything unusual here just a normal congestion backup there is no accident on the span this morning. Well on a related note. Speaking of traffic we a bay area commuters you can expect to see toll takers back in their booths in just a few weeks time. The longterm goal is to phase them out and go cashless but Officials Say theyre not that just yet with kron fours Maureen Kelly with a closer look. Its these eastbound fast track lanes of the benicia bridge that Bay Area Transportation planners want all the toll plazas that state run bridges to look like with no toll booths in the way to force commuters to reduce speed going completely cashless has been a long term goal that was expected to come to fruition over the next couple of years. And then coronavirus hit. Toll takers were ordered how due to safety and the planned to go to all electronic tolling went into effect immediately. The switch was made smoother by the fact that bridge traffic all but disappeared, but now is the bay area is beginning to reopen congestion is making a comeback traffic is coming back for about 70 of where we were before the school in 19 to Randi Rentschler the metropolitan Transportation Commission says they like to stay cashless but there are still too many drivers not switching over to fast track and in addition to contributing to backups at the bridges, theyre also adding workload for the office staff which is also reduced to covid19 stuck with a tedious job of building those without fast tracked for the toll money they owe and thats a job that gets more overwhelming the more cash paying drivers get back behind the wheel. So toll, takers will return to the job in weeks rather than months, but its expected that accepting any type of cash at bay area bridges will be in the rearview sooner than originally planned whats likely to take place. Is that were going to have the toll takers back. For some given period of time. And then were going to convert though the bridges back to an america to collection and then later well take out the tool to infrastructure taking out the toll booths themselves will likely take years. But eventually open road tolling is expected to make crossing the state run bay area spans less of a stop and go experience. Maureen kelly kron 4 news.
