The davis family saw the rush of fire crews as they left their neighborhood only hoping theyd still have a home to return to at least one family i know of lost their house and so i mean that immediately crossed my mind because all night long i didnt know if we have a house to go back to firefighters struggling in steep terrain had a lot to heavy air attack as the flames 8 up 1400 acr burning several structures and windy conditions didnt make things any easier the wind is always a but in certain areas where there was a concern here of to get some dozers out weve got crews out on the ground are put out those hot spots efforts the davis family appreciates their homes spared and even meadows favorite stuffy we went home and was so smoky, we opened up all the windows and doors in and just decided to come back to town let the air out and no power and water yet. 9. 16 right now luckily that he has backed off and so has the but still im sure theres more to for abel has the head of the yeah definitely not going to be near as hot this week as what we had been seeing the past couple of weeks, even though temperatures will warm a few degrees. Not looking at the excessive heat like we had been and wind also is backing off too so we do have improving conditions. But there is a red flag warning still hanging on for Solano County and definitely some dry conditions to can see all the way up to the Golden Gate Bridge, definitely no presence of fog are much marine layer, so thats going to result in a warm day ahead of us satellite and radar actually shows you just how clear and drive a picture it is really not a whole lot of cloud cover to be talking about. Now at the big picture showing us that we have this ridge of High Pressure thats Building Back in now and we are going to remain dry in the forecast ahead, lets get a look at that. Wednesday will bring along just a touch of cloud cover out along the coastline and a possibility of some morning fog on into the start of your middle of the week. Daytime highs today. Well, those will be comfortable at the coast with some 60s and 70s areas like mission in financial districts back into the 70s today while holding on to the 60s for some of our coastal areas further down the coast on highway one solid 60s until you get to Half Moon Bay where youll be at 71 this afternoon. Burlingame 75 for the high today while further south a few 80s mixed and once you get towards Mountain View and further south. Were daytime highs climb compared to yesterdays san jose 79 Campbell Santa clara and morgan hill. Each of 80 degrees for your peak temperatures east bay daytime highs also 70s 80s with san ramon dando walnut creek unconquered trading in yesterday 70s for low 80s today, oakland youll be at a nice 76 degrees well or warmest spot will actually be in Solano County fairfield 86 where that red flag warning is in effect today until 07 00pm nevado petaluma and sandra fell upper 70s, so warm but not excessively hot. Nor will be tuesday and wednesday, definitely warmer than we have been over the past couple of days. But nothing like the heat that we had been seeing last week and the week prior to that thursday we begin to cool back down after our midweek warmup and by friday and saturday, its back down to the 70s we go much like we were this weekend with a cool breeze returning. Back to you daria thanks a lot john its 9. 19 and today barr is running on a new schedule to accommodate the openings. Of its newest stations in the south bay this coming weekend. But extra trains are being added to make sure that they still arrive every 15 minutes during commute hours. Former San Francisco mayor and former speaker of the california assembly, willie brown spoke with kron 4 about the ongoing calls for reform. He told us the level of outrage and unrest that were seeing in the country is long overdue. The question of racism in this nation has been years since the slave ships first arrived in this nation ha been frankly ignore in that the issue of racism and therefore well. Somehow it had to be fronted in addressed and it now is being confronted in the draft and i just hope it can be. So spain to the extent that it becomes institutional subject to the changes that are necessary to rid ourselves of it and that process, however weve got to be you know very very clear that as we wipe out all those bench associated with racism. We dont care ignore the necessity of certain guidelines. One example for Public Safety. I just hope but those people though City Council Person was understand that. In the definitions of what ought to be interest in Public Safety that they want to do and it should not be just as a result of their Police Departments misconduct because im so then that is not the whole Police Department it is just a few members of the Police Department but there is that police tight mentality that has to be addressed and dealt with. But you got to do it. But in the context of Public Safety what i down 911. I want 911 to answer and if im in need of survival. I want somebody to show up to help me so bad. 9. 21 is the time and still ahead were going to hear from City Council Members in minneapolis about the police force and 9. 24 in a big story, a majority of the Minneapolis City Council has voted to defund and dismantle their Police Department instead theyre going to use the millions of dollars for the budget for programs to help the homeless improve education and other services, David Schuman has the details. We are today to begin the process up ending the Minneapolis Police department. And of the 13 City Council Members publicize their desire sunday to not reform and pd but abolish to our citys toxic relationship with the Minneapolis Police department. Policing as we know it or rally at Powderhorn Park served as an incubator of sorts to share ideas about a post police world redirecting the mpd budget toward Youth Programs Mental Health services and Addiction Treatment was part of it so is having a choice about who to call for help maybe neighbors or social Workers Police are not the right response for a myriad of issues Mental Health crises, Domestic Violence calls. Opioid overdoses mayor jacob fries says hell work with cheese Medaria Arradondo on Community Led Public Safety strategies to address systemic racism in Police Culture fried doesnt support and peas abolition but Council Member phillipe cunningham is looking toward revising the city budget this month through the covid19 pandemic so there is an opportunity for us to be able to explore what our next steps but really were going to be hitting 2021 budget very hard, however dismantling mpd may or may not happen many people in this crowd have lost hope with the reform we have had citizen review boards body cameras and the black keys. But were still here watching black people getting murdered and tear gas in our streets we have never look to the police for our safety. But to each other. And on this monday morning were going to take a peek at the weather for you looks like its pretty nice out there and a lot of traffic just a little trickle on monday morning. This is the new norm and well see as things loosen up more and more people are going to be hitting th well many people have such a misunderstanding as to how a reverse mortgage works. Access your equity. Stay in your home. Have peace of mind. Nations struggle with Race Relations and social justice. In the wake of the George Floyd Murder in minneapolis. Then theres the pandemic on top of that they cripple the country and the president s poll numbers are now struggling now to help us digest what these new numbers mean is gop. Political analyst on double car joining us remotely this morning. Tom good morning, thanks for joining us. It does seem a. So lets start off with the cnn numbers that just came out recently they conducted a new poll. And well put the numbers up on the screen but i mean they dont paint a positive picture for the president as were now what 5 months away from the election in november. But in essence what they show is basically a 14 point deficit for the president when compared to joe biden the question that was asked was if the election were held today who would you vote for former Vice President joe biden or the current President Donald Trump and it doesnt look positive for the president , your thoughts. Well chris, you know i dont buy buy me your media holmes realize that were in the dubai to hear thats the book im grown and since the second election of obama well we found in polling is that democrats almost uniformly vote for democrats in these National Elections and the same holds true republicans almost uniformly both for republicans and they dont cross over very much at all so what does that mean you can predict the outcome poll basically by finding out how Many Democrats you asked the question how many republicans. Cnn all year long fox and others made union polls and consistently asked about 32 democrats about 25 republicans, but thats not what rasmussen and gallup say self selfidentification its so in reality is ive said all year long nationally this is going to be a close election remember obamas reelection bid to win 7 was los reelect number in a long long time. Republicans have lost 4 out of the last 5 popular votes. So this is going to go down to the wire. The cnn poll does not accurately reflect the american electorate. Tom when coronavirus first happened i think the president whether or not you like the way he handled it political pundits would say he did a good job of getting out front. Given those press conferences talking for hours every single day. What if anything do you think he could do better. In the crisis that were facing now which is the racial divide and handling whats happened. Since the george situation. As you know from my podcast on kron. Were all leaders need to be careful with their winning. This includes the president and so yes, he has used wording that hasnt helped his own cause. Today hes fine hes holding a round table with respect to this Police Enforcement and racial issues. I think thats probably overdue although its only been 2 weeks i think governor newson should do the same in california. But we need a functioning Law Enforcement as part of our society thats just a fact and all of our leade need to temper their language and sit down and Work Together youre going to have to hear some harsh words from one side or the other but like you cant have eric our city a major city mair mayor member los angeles countys the than 42 states calling police killers that wont help. And we cant have rhetoric on the other side that that is an inflammatory either they need to sit down and Work Together thats what a responsible chief executive doesnt glam trumps 2 starting to do that today but speaking of harsh words, it doesnt help to hear the very harsh words from his own. Military commanders who have been like colin powell part of the republican party. Yeah, im not a fan of colin powell we need to remember you macarthur and truman fight you saw mcclellan who lake and fired run against him. Youve got to have this kind of thing but you asked important question what should trump be doing to make this situation better it starts with sitting down and talking directly with people all governors, including minnesota california go say should be part of this what you trying to get poll numbers you should try and get resolutions hard to do in an election year. But you ask the important question what can they do physically leadership is a physical think he should be physically sitting down and talking to people. Well and to get back to your point where you said that words matter and it does come from the top you have people out in the streets demonstrating protesting screaming for change because they say police have become excessive in their handling of black americans. But yet you here. This is the president and those directly around him using words like police need to dominate the battle space is that the kind of messaging that the president to be putting out and who is there among the president s inner circle who can speak truth to power and let him know that this is not the way to speak Going Forward if he wants to win over those African American voters that hes going to need in november. Yeah, well look theres a new rasmussen poll it shows that 40 over 40 of black americans now support the president thats an historic high. So im not sure that its its mom with think that its moving one direction or another, but as steve hilton has talked about. He has to move past simply saying things like you to set the same dominate here in california japanese never should have said your rage israel in the middle of the violence. You know there was a woman shot just 500 yards from my office and walnut creek is boarded up that kind of rhetoric you are correct doesnt help in that moment and probably doesnt help in the long term. But again this is not just about actions if this just dissipating goes away and there isnt good communication like the house bill right now was drafted alone by democrats if we just the one side or the other instead of sitting down together this may not improve things over time and all this effort in banks would have gone almost away so what im hopeful liz in indys roundtable said the president is doing and hope the governor just one in this state that they actually reach some concrete changes that help the situation and said just barking at each other well you have such good advice was given the advice said this to the president to. You know gas a bunch of protesters so he can stand for the church of the bible whose time well that okay there west side gas is actually youve got all these great advice and whos advising him to do that. Well look this is part of a greater problem the science just like i talked about just a minute or they just talk to their own side. And so its about i dont know the answer to your question specifically. But we are so divided and we so attack each other that we can get to this other space but i you know i dont know exactly what it must keep in mind though that frozen Water Bottles and there was broken glass found in those that in that square that you were discussing mylan started so thats where that came from, but this is how tense things are going to take a leader that poses National Goals to get past this and said speaking to their own sites and that starts with round tables. It cant stop them. We cant let this is a page racism does exist i dont believe all cops are races we shouldnt say that but we need to sit down together. Ok all right tom, thank you as always wed really do appreciate your insights as we try to navigate through these very murky 9. 39 is the time right now want to take a quick peek at how things are going this morning weather wise well it is definitely going to be a warmer one daria but the good news today is were not looking at a warm up like we had last week. Temperatures today will be warming under the sunny skies that youre taking in from berkeley, nice and bright out there in the east bay winds also coming down or breezy a spot today will be fairfield with a well actually a red flag warning in effect for Solano County as these winds continue through the day calm conditions elsewhere in the bay area though now as far as temperatures go today we are going to be seeing our daytime highs eventually getting pretty warm but where were sitting right now as far as temperatures are concerned if we could get a look at that is actually pretty nice and cool right now were in the 60s out there across the bay area with hayward palo alto in alameda each of 63 degrees currently and 66 currently for areas like double and on up to concord at 65, San Francisco berkeley oakland, mid 60s for you while up in the north bay getting close to 70 degrees right now. And we will be definitely in the 70s for many of our cities like San Francisco oakland and san jose this afternoon. Few inland spots getting into the 80s though ill talk about that. Still ahead daria thanks a lot and lets take a live look now at the memorial as people are beginning to file in. For the Service Today to honor george floyd we are going to take an indepth look when in the buzz the weekend saw its biggest demonstrations yet to demand justice for george floyd and end racism, whats love got to do with it everything thats why i want you to meet a newly engaged couple who did their first tv interview with kron 4 after joining for their first protest. Protest on the Golden Gate Bridge. Bay area couple quinn the messenger and carry montgomery got engaged yesterday right there in the middle of it all out how cool is that you can see the excitement there everybody. Applauding cheering bringing smiles which weekend sorely use more of in these times quinn and kerry who you see in the video actually joining us this morning via zoom to talk about that moment that honestly has gone viral. This morning, good morning guys. Morning my name on congratulations tell us how this sure long. Thank you all giving us of a platform and so sometimes facebook the all this you know we know that though the whole country is is hurting right now and all of us are processing things in a different way. This week has been a very challenging for me as a member of the black community. And theres been some cultural traumas that have come up inside and this woman here has been instrumental in being able to help you navigate those states and. I have had a lot of fear as a black man in america going to these know some of that fears from seeing things on on on the news and in social but also my fathers African American grew up in the south during Civil Rights Movement and his parents when allow him to go to the protests out of fear of in being targeted. So kerry went to protest earlier this it was a very challenging moment for me. Because i felt my had been taken away that i didnt have a chance to go in support. So i stayed behind and supported in prayer and in that prayer. Ive found that it wa important for us to to go together and we went down there. I had the ring in my pocket, and i just held on the whole time and i just let lovely kerry had no idea that it was coming in. When it happened i think i was confused because it didnt seem like she im sure you carry a care youve been at these protests and he doesnt come so you figure. Well hes just going to come along the second question right that had to be shot. Do we really want i also want to just tiana day the 17 yearold who won the preakness together we have seen thousands of people out on long before and i dont know if you can tell from the video i had no idea what clinton is doing and i was like and i think everyone around us knew what was going on and then i saw the reunion i was just shocked and shaking and you know i think the take away for me is i also we have a lot Difficult Conversations this week and i think the important thing is just getting comfortable with being uncomfortable and i grew up in birmingham, alabama, and you know i. Knowledge that i have work to do, but i also have a voice and everyone has a voice and Everyone Needs to engage in these conversations and you know its so much more them protests since get active and boat and go to your City Council Meetings and listen to people and have empathy and learn from each other because you know im not doing this right no ones doing it right you have to just take a step forward and you have to the okay with just opening up and having conversations it was just awesome so feel everyone happy and the energy and you know not everyone can see it i lives that its it was it was just really need all the are the strangers was really incredible it sounds like though this was a test of your relationship going up to this with you going out carrying the protests in the eu quinn saying no im not going to go that must have caused. Some friction. It did and you know weve been in a relationship for 5 years and we keep learning from each other and i had to learn to just listen and be patient and understand that you know quenton has a different experience of course than i do and i have to put him first in this moment and we did we had a we had a lot of really tough conversations not just with each other, but family and with friends and work and you know its yeah and i think to carry a really touched on it, you know, were all coming at this with our own doctor astin in our own trauma know we even as a member of the black community, you know we all have our own experiences in our own trauma that were dealing with in i think this week has been really eye opening for us they its really important to to listen first and first and foremost if if if someone isnt giving you a chance that doesnt mean that you cant give them a chance its been a really healing process for us in i was actually going to propose to carry in japan. A couple months ago, but the coronavirus hit and we were unable to go we had to cancel our trip and i was really upset and angry and waiting for that but this this phone right i decided to do it the night before in it was my guiding to go out there and face some of my fears, im going to be just as annoying is like your parents might be like not same way you can have kids but. I cant say ok if and when you have kids. How are you going to treat. Protests and social activism because i find that interesting quinn that your initial reaction because of the way europe was oh no im not going to go im not going to go im all for it, but i want to go and and care you are the opposite oh yeah i need to go so what do you go to model for your kids. Sure absolutely thank you for asking that because first and foremost as the work that we all have to do together and thats the work that we all need to do as adults and leaders is to remind us remind everyone that this is about legacy. This is about the legacy of this country not being broke in country has been built this way and that we need to be honest about those things and that you know its important they they i think the next generation really understands that. Theres theres aspects of of all of us that we need to listen to and you need to lead with listening and that we need to lead by example that was also really important for me and going tomorrow is when my dad shared with me that he was scared to go i had that fear inside of me and i needed to move past that and carry help me do that in we must lead by example we must listen and finding a you know i think also a creative in and just a very simple way of speaking with with children is really you know i speaking to fairness you know that thats something that most children can understand and that these conversations need to happen immediately. I mean when i was growing up conversations about race were happening in our everyday lives just because you know i come from a multiracial family and vice versa conversations about race for not happening in my life because i grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood white law and you know its something the 19 to later in life and it should be starting from the get go and i think thats we dont have the answer were learning every day and its constant work and. You know we want to make sure that when we do have a from day one is issues are brought up and then talked about and its just its open and comfortable to be able to talk about you know racism and Systemic Police Brutality and you know just these issues that we live with and we dont talk about so. You know and those are new conversations for us to you know a lot has been brought to the surface this we needed this moment of happiness probably just as much as maybe other people needed that. Just been overwhelmed with support all right well like the ring to the face there one thank you so much for joining us today and in a moment of strife that were seeing right now you guys are the embodiment. Of the love the compassion the app to see the unity that we need to see more of thank you so much for sharing your story with us this morning. All right congrats.
