Robin. All right. Thank you marty checking in on the Weather Forecast now i went out yesterday to empty the trash was around 10 oclock. I said ill take out the trash, you know, ill go for a walk and then i felt how hot it was outside. Through in the trash turned around and went back indoors. It was pretty hot to if i did get my walk or jog in yesterday. Well you have better life going on for this and tomorrow, particularly were really going to take chop away at those highs. You know the good news is today a good morning robin everybody and the good news today is that were having not just the reduction of temperatures were falling out of the 100 degree mark for all of the area and then tomorrow youre going to see a real big dramatic changes. Well here comes some of that marine layer sneaking in here this fog the shot, no contrast island. County hinting that things are going to be changing now. Temperatures thus far were in the 50s around the perimeter of the bay upper 50s at that inland, were looking at some lower 60s. 50s also up in the north bay with 48 for nevado but comparing this to 24 hours ago a this is a dozen degrees, or least a halfadozen degrees behind this time yesterday so its a nice little cool down hopefully been enjoying the the night of getting some cooling tonight unlike last night the previous night. We still have Weather Statement will go and give that to do with the heat advisory in place until 7 this evening Solano County of the heat warning. And that will be with inland highs in the 90s, yes again today but theyre going to fall out of that tomorrow coast in the 70s and heat exhaustion and heat stroke possible, so just keep the water flowing even today, 71 09 00am to 12 87 coming up a little bit were take a look at that more details of your forecast to see how things are changing into the weekend marty back to you. All right dave, thanks a lot. Well that recent hot weather around the bay area and around californias prompted cooling centers to pop up right here in the bay area which in turn made the California Health department to release new safety guidelines to prevent exposure to covid19 kron fours will tran live in san jose with a lot more in will nowadays even trying to cool off comes with some danger. Absolutely which is why the cooling center did not open on monday or tuesday. It took a little bit of time for them to come up with new guidelines ive been covering cooling centers for years now and they always are ready to go right before a heat wave, but actually the cooling center right behind me did not open until yesterday despite tuesday being extremely hot as well. They have to make sure that the people go here are safe. You dont want to escape the heat and then come here and it costs you your life. So take a look at your screen. These are the guidelines that they had to come up with unfortunately, one day had to pass before they open up the cooling centers in san jose about 5 of them which by the way opens up at 1 oclock in the afternoon. It goes all the way until 9 oclock in the evening. These are the 4 major guidelines that the Health Department came up with the first one is individual Temperature Checks and symptom screenings. Cleaning and disinfecting proper protocols physical distancing guidelines and addressing language and cultural barriers oftentimes cooling centers are in some of the places theyre not as affluent. More like immigrant communities that dont have access to a lot of money or even have air conditioning at their locations or even if they did they probably could not afford it which is why cooling centers like the one right behind me and this is near talley road, pop up for those people who want to spend some time here to cool off during the heat fortunately we do know that its coming down just a little bit over the next several days. But lets face it marty were heading into a very warm section of the year so cooling centers will be the protocol. Unfortunately covid19 has changed everything i never thought the cooling centers would have to make extreme measures to make sure that people are safe because inherently they are a safe haven back to you. Well se with a jacket on still kind of cool out there in san jose. A little bit cool and ive learned from past meteorologist said kron 4 that they say its cooler because its going to be hot day. No cloud cover the cloud cover keeps the warmth a little bit in the overnight hours. So im not a meteorologist but i have paid attention throughout the years. The reason why its a little bit cool. Theres no cloud cover. And once the sun comes up good lord i am with looking for shade just like Robin Winston tax low welfare live report from san jose rob it. Well Contra Costa County is making places available for seniors and people with disabilities who need to get out of the heat. The employment and Human Services department has opened up this office is an anti on Pleasant Hill hercules and richmond Face Coverings are required and there will be physical distancing guidelines in place to make sure you follow that and the county stresses that it does not want people who have been exposed or who have symptoms of covid19 at these locations. In San Francisco, the citys homeless account for a large number of coronavirus staffs, the department of Public Health reported 48 deaths of Homeless People between march 20th and may 24th. While the report does not include the causes of death they speculate that closing shelters, increased drug use and a lack of medical care all contributed to the deaths. Now homeless advocacy groups are calling on San Francisco to act faster in protecting the homeless. The overwhelming majority of these deaths that happened out on the streets. I mean were talking about peoples last moments of life. Instead it on it. Hard cold concrete. And thats just unimaginable that San Francisco can do better than that. The coalition is calling on the city to offer all homeless a hotel room testing of all homeless who died during the outbreak. And publicly release the cause of the death as the city continues to move the homeless into hotel rooms it has set up a safe sleeping village that has supervision restrooms and also self services. 2 key indicators of opening the economy are testing and contact tracing. But in Santa Clara County, a lack of contact tracers has affected the count. Santa clara county executive doctor jeff smith is sending out a call to action. Hes looking for volunteers to help trace or track down people who may be spreading the coronavirus the county is also hiring tracers reassigning existing employees and also putting the call out for volunteers the countys hoping to dramatically increase the 50 contact tracers that are on the job now to a 1000 tracers by mid july. Contact trace seen really that can be done from your home on the internet on the phone essentially what it is is collecting information from individuals who are covid positive finding out what medical problems they have finding theyve contacted whos at risk. Now take a look at this animation it illustrates just how one person who tested positive can spread the virus to others more contact tracers could help with the deployment of Research Resources rather and making decisions about testing and other strategies for staying ahead of covid19. Coming up next on the kron 4 morning news, a temporary tent city in San Francisco for people who are homeless hasnt even opened up yet, but its already heading to the courts. Days bar telling us what how long is this going to last another day or so. Yeah this todays basically and that wont get quite as intense as what we saw earlier from this way this is going to be a weaker day but were still under that advisory heat advisories own for just about all the whole bay area. Then big changes expect as we get into friday and even some rain try to work here too theres a shot of alcatraz off to the distance that you can see and were dealing with fog this morning which is little bit more theres a shot of the golden gate too. All kind of covering things up robins been talking about a fog advisory for the baber the Golden Gate Bridge itself as you can see why of that fog by the way just looking at some projections here it actually gets a little bit worse over the next hour ago hour and a half before its funny to mixes out and back to another kind of sultry days store for us. Current temperatures, weve got the lower 60s up towards the delta 58 for livermore upper 50s lined up the east bay shoreline with 48 for nevado 59 san jose and 51 going on up there to santa rosa. So another clear day going on for us today, but that blog you see to the south. Thats going to be ushering in some rain coming this weekend probably as early as late tomorrow night into saturday morning might be in some claps of thunder thrown in there too and i know that its coming from the southern latitude you would say well gee i mean. Be still kind of warm well may be mild, but its going to be much better than what weve experienced obviously so improving on that front. When this system gets here lets go and watch this and future cast for this is the marine layer at first thats for today. Then tomorrow morning some scattered clouds get again the areas you can notice that takes a sprinkles trying to happen at the coast there in summer in. Throughout the day on friday, its variable clouds much cooler by the way are not as hot. Theres the rain opportunities you can see already by 04 00am on your saturday. And so well get some rain out of this which is pretty nice to get. So for today, the typical daytime heating will cause some inland the winds going on this afternoon. But a bigger dose of them are expected in the friday look at some of those pockets there. The peninsula around the mountains of the santa cruz also to around the delta thats the change of the guard is the High Pressure weekends and our new low drop comes up here to help bring some rain mostly sunny still hot inland 70s and 80s for inland temperatures in the 90s. For your t g i f scattered clouds not as hot that means at 90s are gone maybe should capitalized gone part 80s for the bay area inland, yes, 80s going on so that will be nice and over the weekend showers Thunder Showers saturday. We kind of take a break on sunday for the rain part mild. In a few showers possible on monday seems to be scattered about their little bit to want to make a note of that highs today were to 69 San Francisco, 76 for open 88 san jose across the wider bay, sure theres still some reds out there any our trust to reach for 197 will try 93 per conquered 92 going on for livermore the east bay shoreline, still looking at 80s but that may be reduced to the 70s for tomorrow as we watch big changes continue to come our way coming up a little bit well have a look at that longer range forecast models for you and take a look at your 4 zone forecast to look at bay area bridges and roadways robin whats going on while its very quiet out there so the early birds are doing fine. For people heading across the san mateo bridge. It is crowded so if youre about to roll out of hayward and work your way overo the peninsula youre not going to be alone and i just noticing some flashing lights you see that. Looks like it may be the middle lane on the right see some flashing lights. But im also checking the chp logging theres nothing reported. So maybe something new and developing or possibly a traffic break looks like a possibly chp sort of going back and forth ill stay on top of it, but your drive time is still under 30 minutes from the east bay over to the peninsula so do expect a crowd on the san mateo bridge checking some other bridges around the bay area we have the bay bridge 80 west into San Francisco. Easy smooth on the upper deck, no problems on the skyway the central freeway to 80. One o one all as well so far in San Francisco. Well take a peek at more bridges coming up a little bit later marty all right robin. Well it was another night of violent protests in minneapolis after a Police Arrest turned deadly. What these new school year might look like in california state superintendent Tony Thurmond says early june is when he will share guidelines for reopening schools. Kron fours kate rooney gives us a preview of the states plan. On wednesday state superintendent Tony Thurmond gave a teaser of what reopening schools in california might look like thurman said the department of education plans to release reopening guidelines in early june. I often refer to it as a guide book. It is our attempt to do a kind of how to. And to School Districts answer questions that they have about how to reopen. One of those questions is when School Districts can reopen. Thurman said hes hoping for late august Early September that there wont be a common opening it will be up to individual districts. Weve got 10,000 schools. There is no one size fits all for schools so local School Districts and School Boards make decisions about one schools open what we do with the department of education as we try to guide our schools. That guidance will include Safety Measures like Face Coverings physical distancing in classrooms on school buses and Temperature Checks for students and staff thurman said it also likely involves a socalled blended instruction model, a mix of in class sessions and Distance Learning we want to make sure our educators have access to standards and guidelines. Or how to make distance it happened in the most appropriate way we get some training as some resources to our educators and of course we have to continue to address the Digital Divide according to thurmond, some 600,000 students in underserved communities still dont have access to Home Learning tools Like Computers or the internet. The superintendent called on California Companies individuals and the federal government to provide Financial Support to equip those students for virtual learning, were drawing a line in sand. Were saying weve got to close at Digital Divide. Were saying we need help from everyone to make that happen. Thurmond estimates the state needs at least 500 million to accomplish that goal reporting in the bay area kate rooney kron 4 news. Well have some catching up to do. Welcome back the time is 5. 44 good morning and thanks for staying with us lets get a check of the weather now with dave spahr. Hey good morning a robin good morning, everybody and still another hot day were looking at today to that a heat advisory still with us another day, but not as lofty as those temperatures were from yesterday and before a look at what weve got going on at the bay bridge toll plaza there you can see the fog off to the distance there so its not affecting all areas of the bay the same way you should get a shot from u c berkeley, its still kind of that fog hanging around as you can see nice picture rescue though 63 antioch 60 per conquer we got the 50s up there the north bay with the bottle of 50 57 for oakland and 58 going on for san jose. So for highs today across the state one o 5 for fresno one of 3 going on for bakersfield, 100 from endo mid 60s. Covering the Central Coast in San Francisco looks like with 76 for san diego 69. La x o for this Short Term Forecast to take us to friday morning tomorrow morning. Were dealing with more that scattered cloud cover. And that will be through the course of the day much not as hot. Is what were looking out tomorrow here comes the rain overnight into saturday morning there you see some embedded rain with scattered showers this system is coming from the south but we still may have some crackles of thunder in there too so its a possibility well see that here you can see it coming from the wide perspective. Boom right there. There may be some lingering shower possibility maybe early next week, but then up bigger to see about this coming from the northwest there and the mid latitudes but also up in the north a bit. This coming in here for next weekend. So it looks like another dose of rain thats going to start getting us into early june. So this is a nice treat in a wide open up the door for a double dose. Notice, the pink colors there indicating some colder air aloft like to see that our temperatures now 67 going on San Francisco along the coast where its 66 daly city pacifica 63 app and bay 67 to the bayside upper 60s to so lower 70s like no great 7377 burlingame and though the south got a lot of 80s now replace the 90s here palo alto 8583 redwood city and 82 coming in from out to do for the south bay 89 san jose know pitas 88 of clara 88 cupertino 95 for morgan hill for the southern end of the east bay shoreline lower 80s what 90 for Pleasanton Livermore 92. And up to the north were looking at 91 for waller creek 93 concord 72 for berkeley 74 going on for richmond and the legal at 72, still got those 90s going on up there Solano County thats why theres the heat warning going on even though these numbers are in the 90s back about 96 by the way 86 for napa 89 going on for sonoma and 89 also santa rosa with 80 setting down south 67 still point re but a little cooler for stenson beach. So heres the drop in temperatures were celebrating at first on friday to 86. Then comes chances of not only showers and maybe some Thunder Showers for saturday, drying out a little bit on sunday. There is a chance maybe some sprinkles working here monday too. But basically 70s inland about that and gradually recover to some 80s as we get into tuesday and wednesday of next week robin whats going on with the bay area bridges and roadways, its picking up, but its not bad havent found any hot spots or trouble spots heading into San Francisco. This morning so come on in its wide open across upper deck to downtown. Lets get some more bridges we are checking out the richmond sandra fell what remains problem free. Thats a great way to start right the golden gate is under a fog advisory, but the rest of our bridges are fine without incident is you want to be careful driving in fog like it says you know reduced visibility can be expected across the span but the overall drive in the San Francisco side of even than in the north bay, its very quiet.
