There will be 2 workers rights rallies in San Francisco is the first will be at 10 oclock this morning at pier 50. They want the state to take action to cancel rent payments while the economy is suffering during the pandemic another workers rights rally will be held at city hall 2 hours later at noon. It will also be a counter protest at 1130 outside city hall for people demanding thats the economy reopened and in oakland, a workers rights rally will be held at the port of oakland starting at 10 oclock in the morning. Governor newsom is controversial plan to start the new school year possibly by this summer is running into some push back from educators. The governor wants the early start to offset any learning lost because of the coronavirus Pandemic School districts, especially those that are cash strapped like the west Contra Costa School District say they simply dont have the resources for an early start. We know how stressful it is, and we just wanted to show how much we appreciate them. I think whats so unique about this is you have First Responders like yourself always showing up when something is happening in an emergency he got another set of First Responders showing up on the front lines of this pandemic you now you see so many similarities there how does it feel for you to know that theyre on the front lines of this. A specific battle. You again we just appreciate them so much and im really glad theyre really smart people in the world like these folks and really hard working people. Lot like the folks like the janitors ah the folks that stock the shelves. You know theyre really important as well. We cant forget them every single worker in this hospital is super important to us and we just were so appreciative of all of them. Youve got so many of these doctors and nurses that you rarely see. President trump announcing new measures as coronavirus continues to wreak havoc at Nursing Homes, according to california Public Health data nearly 40 of the deaths in our state have happened at Skilled Nursing and assisted living facilities kron fours dan thorn now with a look at how these new initiatives. And and whether they go far enough. As Nursing Homes continue to be deadly covid19 hotspots the president announces plans to protect the facilities and their residents among the new initiatives more ppe shipments to medicaid medicare Nursing Homes 81 million in congressional funding to increase inspections. A requirement for Nursing Homes to report information about covid19 cases to the cdc and also requiring Nursing Homes to inform residents and family members about new cases, nursing home worker and Patient Advocates say the last part is crucial get think down that this is a given that it should be obvious that it happened in fact. It is not happening consistently off to the families find out for the first time from the media that virus is spreading in a facility where a loved one is living. Whats not included in the new initiatives is the promise of testing for residents and staff at longterm care facilities, mike dark with california advocates for nursing home reform says its difficult to get a handle on the problem without testing i think one reason we may not be saying that kind of language yet is because testing is so still so hard to get california Public Health officials released the number of deaths of Nursing Homes earlier this week for the first time. The numbers show one 3rd of confirmed covid19 deaths have come from these facilities. The numbers, however, could actually be much higher really surprising. Actually how little we know how that many of those numbers actually are. Thursdays Nursing Homes announcement came as President Trump declared may Older Americans month. That are trying to add here to physical distance rules and thats adding to the challenge of trying to feed those families.
