To our breaking news story from overnight a Good Samaritan was hit and killed on south by want a southbound 1, 1, in san mateo they were trying to help another driver kron 4 Sarah Stinson live there now to let us know what happened sarah. James this is now being investigated as a hit and run i just confirmed with chp the 31 yearold man the Good Samaritan youre talking about he was hit by a driver and that person took off this man, hes got his car to help a woman who crashed in the Center Divide for his flashers on and then he was hit by a driver and that person just took off so theyre still looking for that person as we speak take a look at this video from the scene and we know they know that the person took off because of the witnesses that remained on scene chp says they got the first call about this is so low car crash involving a sigh on just before 2 in the morning this morning and near the 3rd avenue exit before they arrived on scene the Good Samaritan saw the woman in her mangled syon and you know hes trying to help out so he got out of his car and when to help her right in the middle of those southbound lanes thats when he was hit and killed by another driver who took off. The people witnesses and they stayed on scene they told chp described the car that hit and run driver was a driving as a green or blue box shaped suv possibly a subaru the driver of the scion has been taken to this to stanford with injuries. So that person still recovering 4 cars were involved in this crash in total chp in redwood city are now looking for the hit and run driver and while they do that their message to everybody at home. Theres obviously if you have any information call them but also if you come into a situation on the freeway, its dark out. You see someone whose cars disabled or someone has gotten to a crash. The fact that in just a few hours from now are hoping that oakland city leaders will speak to the public and shed a little more light on to their decision to fire police chief anne kirkpatrick. That decision to fire her was unanimous between the mayor and the members of the Police Commission kron fours will tran live in oakland right now with the very latest will this came as a surprise to a lot of people. It was a bombshell came out of nowhere because there wasnt something that you can point to this said ok this. Leads to this instead it was just years in the making but even then nobody knew coming into last nights meeting. That the Police Commission would pull the mayors side have a closed door meeting and then come to the decision to fire and kirkpatrick shed been on the job for 3 years she made history as opens First Female Police chief she came 3 years ago after a scandal that rocked not just the Oakland Police department but many other Bay Area Police departments involving a teenage girl having with a lot of Police Officers that she was actually brought in to clean up the mess instead during her time there was a lot of animosity between the Police Commission and her. 2 years ago there was a man who was armed at the time, but he was sleeping between 2 homes 5 Police Officers showed up theres been a lot of dispute whether or not they were right. That person was among those infected on the diamond princess cruise ship in japan they were quarantined for a bit at Travis Air Force base but now theyre at a San Francisco hospital being treated the hospital staff by the way taking all precautions necessary to protect both the patient and its staff. Theyre not releasing the name of the hospital they want to protect the patients privacy. The 2 patients that were previously hospitalized in San Francisco have been discharged now there are no longer in the city can no longer and any threat of being infected. And the first confirmed patient in santa clara to has also made a full recovery. That man was isolated at home and monitored by Public Health staff he tested positive for coronavirus after returning from wuhan china last month. Health Officials Say he never got sick enough though to be hospitalized. More than a 115 people ended their 2 week quarantine at Travis Air Force base in fairfield as well they were all part of the evacuation from wuhan china. To one of our big stories this morning out of the east bay where a high school in oakland is shut down until further notice after a cancer causing chemical was found on site. So baby way or you can hear the frustration in the voices of those parents, theres they were talking to School Leaders during a special meeting to discuss the chemical that was found on the grounds of climate high school. Crews found that chemical while they were removing a fuel tank which is next to the schools tennis courts. The school will have to be closed now till at least through early next week as they continue to monitor the air quality. Our concern is that there realized tc that that seeped through the ground and through our floors into the building in the air. And so if there are elevated levels of that then we can have school here. School officials confirm the chemical did not originate on School Grounds in fact it was the state cleaning up a handful of contaminated sites less than a mile away that turned up a lot of this in fact all those sites turns out are contaminated with that same chemical. Well concerned parents tell us that they want a proper response to this toxic chemical being found on School Grounds and in the ground water proper stance or has their reaction. Parents and neighbors voiced their concerns about the toxic chemical found in the ground water and muck linemans high school. The Taylor Memorial Methodist Church getting heated as people felt they were not getting answers our whole community, our whole School Environment has been traumatized by cancer by toxins in a year Anthony Mcneil is a former employee at the high school. He says school and county officials are simply relying on words instead of showing concrete measurements i need to see something more tangible to say this is where the level were at and now because of what weve done. In this press is this is where theyre at now officials maintain that adequate testing is being done and thats why theyve closed the school for now their concern is making sure tce vapors have not gotten into the buildings. Others argue students and People Living in the area should be tested as well though theres no indication right now that theres any up residence of this chemical in the air we just dont know we have to test for we know that ground water, not the drinking water. And we dont know about about the air. One woman who lives near the school says shes worried this has been happening for some time and many students and residents could be at risk as all that. That didnt turn up until he was playing football at Laney College he broke his leg and thats what doctors discovered the cancer at this point theres no definitive link between these deaths and the discovery of the chemical on the climb as high School Grounds, but thats certainly something that people will be looking into. The chemical found in the ground water is called try claure ethylene its also known as tce for short, its colorless its a liquid and its used to produce large volumes of commercial use things like chemicals that are used in refrigerants and also as a solvent to remove grease from metal parts studies show that long time exposure to tce can cause an increased risk of cancer. Layoffs are looming for San Francisco schools because of a major budget shortfall district Staff Members and teachers of one of us to horace mann received an email from their superintendent warning them about these drastic cuts to the budget superintendent doctor Vincent Matthews goes on to say in the email that they have depleted their reserves and that employee cuts will have to be made now because of a million budget shortfall. We need more teachers, more resources more money not less not less of everything in this city where we pay so much in property tax how in the world are they cutting the budgets for school really the message thats being sent.
