Its a tightknit community. Santa rosa is essentially a small town. People know one another. We keep saying 175,000 people, yet no one would deny that it feels like a small town community. Give the firefighters a half a fighting chance. Take a look at your screen, will began 22 hours ago has left us with this kind of damage. Again, cal fire isnt even going to the trouble of adding to this yet. Why . Because they are busy drink to fight the fire. Theyre trying to get people out of harms way. Measuring the amount and finding the source of the fire is tomorrows work. Tonight we can report at least this, there were 15 different fires. Here are the highlights of the ones that are the biggest. The tubbs began in calistoga. That mightve been the first one. That has claimed 25,000 acres in napa county in the calistoga area. The atlas fire, people were lost in this fire, though 30 or risk rescued. Also, we have the nuns fire in the cherokee fire and the patrick fire. We have another fire that merged in mendocino county. The two fires that merged into one. We wont even count up all the numbers there, it is north of 70,000 acres. Speaking of numbers, already its a tragedy. So far 10 people have died. The numbers expected to grow. We know that more than 100 people are being treated at napa and sonoma hospitals for fire related injuries. Whether its burns, smoke inhalation or shortness of breath. The air is so bad there and it has been all day. Outside of the one country you are feeling the effects. Certainly, if you have asthma or encourage the elderly to stay indoors. We talked about farr west, think goodness, the structures there are protected. The 900 creatures the reside in the private animal reserve are okay. But they have to worry about smoke inhalation and thats a problem. Again, these are estimates, the lowend estimates. Its going to be worse. Private homes are going to increase in number. Businesses like kmart and applebees, center for the arts, hilton, destroyed. It runs the gamut. Those people affected, the kmart the went up in flames, mobile home parks. Wineries, mansions, it seems to be indiscriminate. Hitting everything in the path. What we are fighting for fires appear, the wildfires have spread, six buildings or more, as we approach the beginning of our primetime coverage that we bring you every night from eight until 11, this is southern california. Is are live images brought to you from one of our affiliate stations. Its upsetting. If we didnt have what was going on appear, this could be our top story. Near disneyland. 10 homes have been affected. We dont exactly know what happened. We were running cell phone video all day long. It bears repeating. The castle at disneyland, a bright orange surreal sky. The camera pans to children in strollers, we were hearing people were evacuated from disneyland from the rights. Szis. It almost looks unreal. For what cal fire is doing. They have resources up and down the state. Deciding how best to share their support. We did get some tankers when the clouds allowed them to go up and fight, there were 15 different fires going on in the north bay area. Determining where youre going to put down that aerial bombardment to bring this fire into submission is a difficult consideration. Hopefully tomorrow they will have clear skies. Southern california has their own needs and they will have to decide. Back up here, everyone is scrambling for information which is hard to come by. There was a press conference earlier. Authorities give pertinent information. The Police Department along with fellow Law Enforcement officers drought the county, as well as firefighters have been engaged in continual evacuations. Those efforts are ongoing. We do still have new fires flaring up within the city. Officers are continuing to evacuate people from the affected areas. When those people are unable to get out of the area, the going to perform rescues. It has been a terrifying night for many people. We ask that as we continue his efforts, stay out of the mandatory evacuation areas as well as the safety of First Responders have to go in and try to contain these fires. To that end, the city of santa rosa through the Emergency Declaration hasnt act has enacted a curfew for mandatory evacuation zones from 6 45 pm until sunrise. Anyone who is out in those hours in the mandatory evacuation zones will be subject to being stopped and potentially arrested if they refuse to go back inside or leave the area. In this case they would have to leave the area. That is for the safety of people in that area as well as First Responders in allowing us to get through and get the situation under control as efficiently as possible. Taking a moment out of their focused time to give us an update on whats going on. They dont have time to do anything other than fight the fire. Your school closures. Today and tomorrow as well. You can see the list of the schools, napa valley unified, st. Helena unified, the list goes on. Napa and sonoma counties. My understanding is all the schools a lot of Evacuation Centers are located there. We will begin our primetime news coverage. 24 hours ago, you were up there and it was good times. The best. It was calm. I will say, there were no wins. But you couldnt help but notice the dry grass. There was plenty of fuel. By the time i got there on sunday, but sunday evening the winds were picking up. They stayed strong sunday night. I saw smoke off in the distance. But you cant imagine its going to morph into five different wildfires burning in the area. It was a terrible combination of wind gusts for a long amount of time. 40 Miles Per Hour for five hours. Plus humidity dropping to the single digits. Tomorrow will be another day, certainly one of the most beautiful places in california, if not the world. It might be early to talk about recovery. We know the people are strong and committed, but right now they are trying to deal with the fact that this fire persists. There is barely containment in a few of the fires. Tonight, and overnight, we will focus on the efforts of firefighters from this area and as far away as san diego and beyond to help put out the fires. We will be right back
