And in San Francisco, one of our producers caught a group of thieves ransacking a wail greens on camera. As Juliette Goodrich reports, the recording didnt stop them. Reporter on Easter Sunday, this brazen group grabbing what they pleased. Wearing hoodies and carrying bags and backpacks they went up and down the aisles. Stealing merchandise. Theres a Security Camera inside the store. And a kpix employee was taking this video but this group didnt seem to care. And it was just like an ambush. Basically. Thats pretty much it. And the as, well, you can probably guess how it all went down. Oakland started john boyle on the mound against the sox. High hopes for boyle as he finished the 23 season with two wins and three starts. Even striking out 15. The red sox put up one run in the 1st and then two in the 2nd followed by 5 more in the third and boyle couldnt even finish three innings before being taken out. Absolutely zero run support for the righty and to top it off they committed a whopping five fielding errors as the red sox won 90. Again tonight at 6 40. More going on with the as. Mainly whats going on with their las vegas move. Nicole, many questions still up in the air and the as and the city of oakland are still working out if they going to extend their lease before the team makes it official in las vegas. These are the renderings on your screen you are about to see of that new 1. 5 billion ballpark. There it is at the site of the tropicana casino resort. The as already made some headway into investing in the new park like hiring the same company the raiders used to oversee ticket sales and suite sales. Theyre hoping to have the park ready for baseball by the 2028 season. As for the tropicana, the future of it, theyve come to terms with the whole as move. The hotel is closing its doors for good this afternoon and eventually be demolished to make way for the 30,000 seat stadium. Until 2028, where will the as play . Theres a more immediate question. Oaklands lease ends after this season with the coliseum. The as already met officials to extend the lease, but no deals have formally been announced yet. Another meeting is set for today. And our lauren toms is live outside the Oakland Coliseum and we are already hearing that theres a proposed extension, good morning to you, lauren. Reporter yeah. Good morning nicole. Thats right. And as fans are torn about the departure of the beloved team finally becoming a reality. But 97 million. Thats a number were talking about for the as to stay here at the coliseum over the next five years. But the Team Reportedly has an opt out option after three years if their new stadium, their stadium in las vegas is done in time. Its a steep increase from the reported 1. 5 million a year the team has been paying to play here in oakland. Increase some fans say is too much. Its pushing a little hard i think. I think they need to negotiate something thats a little more agreeable. Reporter now the team is also rumored to be in talks with Salt Lake City and sacramento for the interment expansion following this 2024 season. But some fans and any move could be too far to hold on to their own tickets and million ticks of course is of course at play here as well. Oakland mayor sheng thao faces a recall vote in a significant city deficit that first of alls are trying to dam fen with the agreement but today as fans will be waiting for the answer today on the future of their beloved team. Nicole. All right, thank you so much, lauren. Check back in with you later. Max, i dont know if i told you this but born here in oakland and i know you are from the bay area. We were longtime season ticketholders. This is painful for me to see the as as hi kind of transition. I have already divorced the team as we stopped having season tickets a few year ago but for the fans that are still there i want to see them stay in oakland to see it through. End the chapter at least on a somewhat graceful note but you know talking to a lot of fans grew up here as well and so many of them they gist feel like they want to just move on at this point. And i think elongating it to 2028, that could be a tough pill for some to swallow. Just elongating what has been kind of a painful chapter for a lot of longtime as fans. Do you think if they go to sacramento maybe or one of other proposed places it would be better. Its tough. I think if they stay in oakland, it would probably be better for the team. It would be great for a place like sacramento to be able to take on the as for a little bit. But i feel like its just its a catch22. Theres no great outcome until they eventually do move on. Yeah you feel for the fans and you feel for the players as well. Imagine being drafted to this team right now. For continuing coverage on the as and their potential move to vegas, stay with us on air and on our website. Kpix. Com and streaming on our cbs news bay area app. A live look right now from sutro tower on this Tuesday Morning. The lights of San Francisco are shining bright. Jess Jessica Burch a Beautiful Day here but if uplook across the country folks arent as lucky. Severe storms are sweeping through this week and this week were seeing everything from tornadoes to snow all across the country. Now over to jess. You have that to show us this morning. Absolutely. You know, a lot of people were hoping to get in the swing of spring kind of like us here in the bay but it looks like winter in many parts of the u. S. In oklahoma weather officials issued widespread Severe Weather warnings as baseball sized hail fell over their heads. Now folks over in illinois, they actually saw their fair share of bad weather yesterday as well. Strong winds and heavy rain whipped throughout that state as people braced for the possibility of hail and tornadoes too. When we look at the bay area weather in the grand scheme of things because we have our own little cold front moving its way in for us this week, gosh, we are so fortunate to live where we do. I will say this though. We just talked about it earlier. That cough that everyone has been getting recently. And allergies still full in swing. Well, right now were in the medium to high category throughout the forecast today, tomorrow, lasting into this weekend. Widespread throughout the bay area as that pollen count stays high so just keep that in mind. If you are noticing a little bit of scratchiness and need to take it extra slow and drink more water and pop a claritin. And of course stay inside when possible. Now today its going to be mostly sunny in our inland areas and cloudy along the coast. We see that bay area fog kind of fill its way in tomorrow. To add to that were also going to see the high clouds sweep throughout the bay area as we head into our wednesday forecast. Gearing up for a cold front moving in for thursday setup. Now this is an interesting cold front. Its going to bring in snow to the sierra first and get the whiplash of rain heading into thursday afternoon thats going to bring in a series of possibilities of showers that are a little bit heavier at times and that continues to swirl its way in from offshore heading into thursday evening and keeping a close eye on that because that could bring in just some lasting little bit of showers into our friday forecast for the padres versus giants. Luckily it starts to clear up into the saturday forecast. With another chance of showers heading into sunday. But let me drop that and lets take it a step back. Talked about the daytime highs earlier but its worth noting that this is still very similar for our forecast compared to our forecast yesterday and the day before in our inland areas but a lot cooler along the coast. Cooler today in areas like San Francisco and halfmoon bay and still in the upper 70s near antioch into the afternoon and low 70s into redwood city. Stretching all the way over into fremont and a similar trend for the friends into the santa clara valley. Enjoy this warm day while we have it. And heres the reason why i say that. Because once we head into the rest of this week, that cold front moving in and it brings in low 50s. So from upper 70s to lower 0s, within the matter of only what . About two days, thats the forecast for us this week. Your closet is really going to be in full force. Want the umbrellas and coats and jackets and this weekend more sunny skies but still the temperatures in the low 60s until early next week. Nicole . Lets check in on the supercommuters. Womens College Hoops saw some of the best players go headtohead last night. Iowa and lsu clashed in a rematch of the 2023 championship game. But in the end, it was Caitlin Clark and the hawkeyes who got to cut the net and move on to the final four. The future number one pick in the wnba draft had a huge night to lead her team to the win. Clark almost grabbed the triple double on the night. 41 points and 12 assists and seven rebounds. She also tied a tournament record with nine made threes. Iowa beat the defending champs 9487 to advance to their second straight final four. Paige buckers and the uconn huskies took on the trojans for a spot in the final four. Usc standout freshman guard continued her historic season scoring 29 points. But it wasnt enough. This one came down to the wire with paige hitting a clutch three giving her 29 points on the night. The huskies went on to win it 8073 booking the record 23rd final four appearance. So the womens final four is set. Both games tip off on friday afternoon. First up weve got South Carolina facing nc state at 4 00, followed by iowa and uconn at 6 30. The winners, they will play for the National Championship on sunday. Nicole . The airline is now letting passengers bring both a pet and a regular carryon bag or personal item into the cabin. Before this week, pet owners could only bring a pet carrier small enough to fit under the seats. Passengers still do have to pay a fee to bring their pets on to flights however. And if you feel like your dog just gets you, that may actually be true. To a degree at least. Researchers in hungary analyzed canine brain waves and found dogs can match words to objects just like humans do. Then the owners held up either the matching object or different one and while eeg measured the dogs brain activity. Similar to what human brains do. And i dont know about you nicole, but i people like my dog riley, shes a golden retriever and shes the best. Just gets me. She does. She just can pick up on things that im doing and how i feel but also certain words and actions she just associates. Yeah. It is our best friend right . I think simon our cameraman right now is shaking his head. Going back to the flight information about the dog i was actually on flight on sunday. The couple in front of me had a black lab. They bought the dog its own seat. Its a big dog and so think about it. If you were in the middle seat with the family or on the window seat and theres a black lab in front of you. Its the right thing to do. Absolutely. A chihuahua a little bit different and can go under the seat. But for a dog that size i think its great theyre able to fly with their owners. But i think you know, theres some level of making sure that you are looking at the other passengers that maybe dont want the furry friend next to them. Makes perfect sense. Voice cloning is here. Ready or not. I think i need it right now, max. Openais new voice engine can recreate a human voice nearly perfectly from just a 15 second sample. I can see the value in the long run. That could be a wonderful thing. We will be without jobs. [ laughter ] dont need to go down that road. We definitely need the ai version of me today. And the voice cloning. I mean, just to get the words out. And then you know the quality of the voice. Not that great. Words are hard sometimes. All right, lets go to the recent storms in the sierra because they have brought in a decent amount of snow. Jess, its time once again to measure that snow pack. Absolutely. And you know, Governor Newsom is actually going to go up with the California Department of Water Resources to the phillips station this morning to conduct their fourth snow survey of the season. And this one is pretty crucial. Heres the reason why. Normally this is the typical this is typical this is typically excuse me the peak of the seasonal snow pack but behind me you can see when marchs survey was actually done, it was a little early this time. And to avoid the upcoming they ended up doing it early to avoid the upcoming storms but luckily the storms have now passed and theyre going to redo it again this morning at 10 00 a. M. Lets take a look at the past one we saw. It was actually pretty impressive in certain pockets of the sierra the more north we went the more impressive the storms were. The more south we went still below average all the way down closer to mammoth but were going to keep a close eye on the sierra snow pack. Impacts us and the reservoirs in the state and a beautiful season ahead of us. If we have that extra water and of course all that extra snow to go skiing in too. Now heres what its looking like for us here back here in the bay throughout the next couple of days. Today and storm still staying dry. Today is a gorgeous day. 70s in the inland areas and sunshine. And more clouds blanket the bay area into the wednesday forecast and really whats happening is were gearing up for a cold front thats going to drop our temperatures down into the upper 40s and lower 50s for our daytime highs into thursdays forecast. Heres that area of low pressure bringing in all that cool air. Thats going to bring in more snow to the sierra too. Sheathier going to do that count today and get more snow this week. To add to that were going to get our splash of showers and moderate pockets of rain at times too heading into thursday afternoon. So theres a lot of changes in the forecast right around the corner for us but as we take a look at the conditions today, still nice and mild. Very similar to Easter Sunday for that example. 70s in the inland areas and its a little bit cooler along the coast today. I will say this. We have a little bit more on the onshore flow so gustier conditions along the coastline and low 60s for the daytime highs near San Francisco and halfmoon bay. Bodega bay another good example too. Just anottay clear and were just hitting 70s in the forecast. Get rid of the upper 70s and replace it with like i said upper 40s and lower 50s heading into our thursday forecast once that cold front moves its way in. It will be cool and it will be wet and it will be windy at times. And then were starting to dry up as we head into our weekend forecast with mostly sunny skies as soon as saturday and it willtake a bit longer though to warm back up in the 70s. Nicole . All right, how about this . Metering lights are now on over at the bay bridge. And we begin to see a bit of a build up. Clustering just after the toll plaza. We can see more of how many cars are making their way into San Francisco at the top of the tower. And were seeing more commuters heading westbound as over on the right side going east.
