The chp says one of their officers approached a driver sleeping in a parked stolen car around 2 30 this morning. Near tarman avenue and jackson street. When the driver woke up, the chp says they sped off nearly ramming an officer. That officer did fire a shot at the stolen car. No one was hit. Officers had put down spike strips to stop the driver and in all the chaos one of the spike strips flew up hitting and injuring an officer. Now officers didnt pursue the suspect were told. This morning the june Unemployment Rate falling to 11. 1 . The u. S. Added 4. 8 million jobs in the month of june. Thats much more than the expected 3 million that many economists thought we were going to be getting. The nation has recovered one third of the 22 million jobs lost to the pandemic but this report is analyzing the early part of june. So we dont know how a second wave of cases or lockdowns will impact unemployment. And this morning, state lawmakers are joining San Francisco legislators to highlight the failure of the edd to disperse Unemployment Benefits in a timely manner. Theyve received a lot of requests for assistance from frustrated people who cant get their benefits and some have been without income for months. And californians without jobs would get up to seven extra weeks of Unemployment Benefits. Its part of a program called fed ed that becomes available when the state experiences high or prolonged periods of unemployment. Many experts say what happens this upcoming weekend will be critical to preventing california. The governor has slammed the brakes on reopening new restrictions affect 19 counties including contra costa, santa clara and solano. The counties represent nearly three quarters of the states population. Now the order halts indoor activities at businesses including indoor restaurants, museums, zoos, and movie theaters. Yesterday the governor announced hes closing all parking lots only for state beaches and beaches themselves are still open but state beach parking lots are closed. And now the mayor of pacifica took it a step further and shes closed not only city parking lots but the beachings themselves as well. Thats because when the beaches are still open and the parking lots are closed people just park in the neighborhoods and that causes a lot of problems for the residents. The neighbor says thats exactly what happened during the memorial day weekend when visitors jammed into the residential streets. She doesnt want a repeat of that and she doesnt want to see a postholiday spike in covid19 cases among her residents. They had the parking lots closed and the parking in their neighborhoods was putting them at risk. And thats what were trying to do here is to protect the health and welfare. As a mayor its my job to make sure that our community is protected. So this was not it was not an easy call. But its the right call. Reporter so heres a list of all the closures in pacifica. Pacifica state beach. Rock away beach, that includes the north and south parking lots. Sharp park beach, esplanade beach and the fishermens lot on the 800 block of palmetto. And if its set off on your propertily still be fined 1,000 even though you are not the person probably who set off the fireworks in the first place. So consider yourself warned. The infection rate o and cases Bay Area Health expert says the governors mandate to shut down indoor restaurants and bars will actually not do a whole lot to stop the spread of the virus. Socially distanced Indoor Dining has been allowed for weeks and Health Experts cite the rise in cases there mostly from the memorial day weekend and family get togethers like graduation parties. Now the county is shifting focus. I dont think its realistic to stop the spread of covid at this point. An investigation is underway after a freeway shooting in east oakland. I580 reopened late last night following the shooting. So a slow ride on 580 through yea square and improves nicely at 680. In the yellow zone from 205 over to 680. Eastshore freeway clea highway 4 no delays as of yet. And 101 out of the south bay Fremont North 880 we had an accident right around thornton. Still a little slow but no lanes are blocked. Traffic just slowing down just a bit for spectator slowing as you head through there. And theres a trouble spot in the south bay. South 880 right at montague expressway. His name is sam and he just got out of san quentin last week and tells kpix 5 conditions are so unsafe that its only a matter of time before everyone inside is exposed. Its so filthy. Contaminated.
