Clara sheriff deputy and the death of an oakland Security Guard. 19 charges charge have been made against the suspect carillo. Hes accused of ambushing the deputy with explosives and gun fire last weekend. Earlier this month a Security Guard was also fatally shot at the Federal Building in oakland. The suspect was seen driving away in a white van, the same van carillo allegedly used in the ambush. A Law Enforcement source is confirming a link between the santa cruz and oakland cases. A dramatic scene at San Franciscos ocean beach. First responders rescued 5 people from drowning this afternoon. This isnt the first incident firefighters say theyve been seeing an increase in rescues lately because more people trying to cope with the shelter in place orders. Kpix 5s da lin is at ocean beach with the latest for us. Reporter allen, the Fire Department says the victims are two 16yearold boys, two 17yearold boys, and a 25yearold man. They were playing in the shallow part of the water, and suddenly strong rip currents just pulled them and took them out into the ocean. It looks very welcoming at this time, but to the trained eye you can see the rip currents out there. Reporter this is one of the teens rescued by First Responders. The San Francisco Fire Department says the National Park service life guards and 2 surfers pulled 3 victims out. The firefighters brought the other 2 back onto the beach. Witnesses say it was very scary watching the 5 victims struggling in the water. Just a bunch of young kids out for a day at the beach. It turned sad very quick. Reporter the Fire Department spokesperson says when they arrived, the victims were seen in the water about 35 to 40 yards away from the beach, and the currents kept pulling them farther out. Cu you can get caught in a rip a grown adult in ocean beach in ankle deep water can get pulled into the water. Thats how strong some of the currents are. Reporter First Responders thanked 2 surfers for helping them. If not for the 2 surfer, its well perceivable this could have a different outcome. Reporter just a few days ago they responded to another ocean rescue at ocean beach. In fact, after todays rescue, they had to ask other people to get out of the water. Were all getting to a point where we need to go out and get exercise and do something, see the beach. Its getting warm out. Reporter one victim was actually unconscious, another was in Critical Condition was pulled out of the water. All 5 are now in the hospital, doing better. They are expected to make a full recovery. Police investigating a hit and run in the tenderloin. Witnesses say a woman was walking on the sidewalk near larkin and turk when an suv ran into her and she went flying. They were trying to beat the light, but while doing so, they hit the pedestrian. And then the pedestrian flew up in the air and landed from like right here. The car swerved over here. The suspect sped off, but was arrested a few blocks away. No word on the victims condition. Reporter economists say that these latest numbers show a trend and also shows job devastation as well as the trend that reflects that california is reopening slowly. The question is how long can those who are unemployed and the state, which has been dispersing billions of dollars a week, sustain this jobless limbo. More than 20 million americans are receiving Unemployment Benefits. Some are slowly getting back to work. I was going crazy just sitting home and not going anywhere or doing much. Reporter but in california, job recovery is slower than other states. New unemployment claims jumped by nearly 30,000 in the golden state, while florida saw the complete opposite, their number dropping by almost 100,000. We were adding to the stock of Unemployed People much faster than reopening could reduce it. And some other states had a faster period of reopening. Reporter states like georgia and texas also lifted their economic lockdowns last month. New claims fell in both states by more than 30,000. Each day that the lockdowns are continuing, businesses are closing, many permanently. Its not that the devastation has stopped. I think the important thing is its ongoing. Covid19 cases are rising across california as more and more counties reopen. But we are not seeing the same spikes in hospital visits and deaths from the virus as we had in the past. There are now 139,000 cases, more than 4800 deaths, and 4500 hospitalizations with icu numbers relatively flat. The family of a pregnant woman shot by chp officers is looking for answers. They gathered outside Highland Hospital today where brianna columbo is recovering. She and her boyfriend were shot after chp officers pulled them over for reportedly driving a stolen car. Her family claims they were shot at more than 40 times, and they want a full investigation. This is not a surprise. This has been happening everywhere with all police from all different departments. The shooting is under investigation. The Oakland Police department is facing a Class Action Lawsuit over its tactics used to break up protesters. The National Lawyers guild says that police used force on students marching into downtown and near the Police Department on may 29th and june 3rd. Its seeking an injunction to stop the use of tear gas, rubber bullets, and flashbang grenades against protesters. The group is also seeking damages for injuries. When they demonstrate their outrage after seeing the brutal, outrageous murder of george floyd, and the other people that weve been seeing for all the years, theyre met with violent, Repressive Force in terms of physical contact, military operations by the Oakland Police department. Oakland police defended the arrests saying they gave ample warning before the curfew and said anyone remaining behind were agitators, an organized group of looters and vandals. Separately, the Oakland Interim Police chief released an open letter saying quote, we recognize the importance of rebuilding trust in this period of unrest while the nation focuses on police brutality, most recently shown by the horrendous death of george floyd in minneapolis. We commit to reviewing more of these proposals. And Oakland Police are now calling on Business Owners to help identify the people who looted, vandalized, or damaged some 200 establishments starting may 29th. East bay, depends on how far inland you are. Even the warmest spots on the map reach 78 degrees. Everyone short of 80 for high temperatures on friday. Mostly low to mid80s up and down the trivalley. Around the bay, mid to upper 60s. Again, almost exactly normal for the 12th day of june. And mostly low to mid70s for the north bay. Just a degree or two warmer farther inland, and same applies to the north. Northern napa and sonoma counties a little warmer than the neighbors farther south.
