In the last 45 minutes we learned much more about the deadly officer involved shooting that left a wanted murder suspect dead. It happened in unincorporated san leandro at a motel along foothill boulevard. We go there live. Reporter we are standing at the corner of foothill boulevard and 170th avenue, the shooting happened about a block away from where we are standing at the valeant hotel. The Alameda County Sheriffs Department says a murder suspect out of oakland had barricaded himself inside a room since 11 30 this morning. They negotiated with him for a peaceful surrender for about five hours. Investigators say the suspect came out and opened fire on the deputies around 4 30 p. M. They say deputies returned fire killing the murder suspect. His identity has not been released at this time. He emerged from the room, you could see he was moving furniture and other items out of the way, he then produced a semi automatic handgun as he came out of the room, using both hands he aimed the weapon at our deputies and fired at least one round at our deputies as they were below in the parking lot. Deputies returned fire and struck the suspect multiple times. Reporter investigators are not saying which specific murder the suspect was involved in, theyre saying the homicide happened in oakland earlier this year, apparently involving two suspects. The Alameda County Sheriffs Department saying they arrested one suspect a few weeks ago, this was the second suspect, the Oakland Police department was looking for. No injuries to the deputies or police officers. A new crackdown going to infect this weekend to keep large crowds away from oakland lake merritt. To put up barriers so there is still ingress and egress for ada access and Fire Department access, so its very exciting and very promising and i think its going to be a model. Any sort of relief we can get in terms of extending our footprint and being able to use part of the street and be able to see more people safely.
