Before passengers leave the ship, they are being screened by healthcare workers, their temperatures taken, and they answer questions about their health. Only passengers who have symptoms or risk factors are getting the actual coronavirus test. These are 100 secured and segregated from the public. That is a passenger from san mateo now in quarantine. Most are. Before disembark passengers got a letter detailing the next steps. On the second page they are given a choice to test for the virus but there are not enough test kits or processing capability to do everybody on board the ship which does cause some concern for both the passengers and also the communities to which they are being released. Im anne makovec live at the port of oakland, day 3 of the grand princess cruise ship being docked here and the hope is to possibly get the remaining passengers off of the ship today and get some of them tested for coronavirus. A closer look at the ship here behind me. Plenty of lights still on because there are about 1,000 passengers on board. Yesterday, the remaining californians taken off the schoep to the air force base. Some sent to a sil lamar resort in monterrey county. Next off the citizens who live in other states and theyll be at air force bases. As far as the testing and screening process, everybody is screened as they get off of the ship. They have their temperatures taken, they have to answer several questions about the status of their health and if they are deemed risky, that is when they have to actually take a coronavirus test. Other passengers are being given the choice of having a coronavirus test, but the fact of the matter is there are not enough tests to test everybody on board. Once every body gets off, hopefully by the end of today, there will be about one thousand crew members on board. They will be quarantined and treated on the ship, not here though.
